00:00I well I'd be I'd be silly if he wasn't watching it I mean that you can learn so
00:05much not only from guys like Hayden but other people on the track as well so of
00:11course it's hard not to watch it when you're right there lined up on the gate
00:14and I think that again it's a great learning opportunity maybe he'll pick
00:18something up he was off as far as qualifying timing goes so maybe he
00:23learned something there all right 250 West has had their heat now it's 250
00:28East here's the updated points three wins in succession for Cole Davies gives
00:34him a nine-point advantage over Seth Hamaka and 14 over Joe Shimoda
00:41speaking of Joe here he is yeah he was kind of being a bit self-deprecating
00:46yesterday and said I'm riding in salmon yeah just call me just call me salmon
00:51yeah this weekend he's so much fun to be around when you have a chance to talk to
00:56him in the pits if you're the SMX Supercross and you're at the pit party go
01:02over there to that factory HRC Honda rig and try to talk to Joe man he's a great
01:07kid guys like Joe Shimoda Seth Hamaka and others are keen to stop this Davies
01:15winning streak it can start here in the heat to set the tone for the night let's
01:20see how we go 250 East Division here in St. Louis let's go
01:27Hamaka and Davies and Shimoda all there Davies
01:32well it's about three bikes all alongside each other vying for the whole shot but
01:37it's Davies clearly out in front I was gonna say you have to tread lightly
01:40through that first rhythm lane there with all the jumps see a couple riders go
01:45down there look like a Honda oh no clutching that left leg you got Caden
01:56Dugney's there oh oh he looks like he's in pain Lee let's see what happens here it's a
02:03replay I mean circumstance right here oh Evan Ferry comes up short and there was
02:11nothing nowhere Joe could go you can see right there he's like stuck can't move
02:18let's hear that another look everything's good oh he got he got he got hit by Luke
02:24clout yeah Lee and Luke came together that's right I hate to see it defending SMX world champ
02:37this is not a good sight for Joe Shimoda
02:44and understandably the red flag has come out
02:49he needs medical attention man what a heartbreak that was that was weird you
02:57know it's hard to see what happened to his leg I mean you said Luke clout hit him
03:01so not sure if it was just one of there was a combination of factors yeah I mean
03:05they just came they collided after yeah it was like three or four things going on
03:11there have a look at it and it's so hard if one guy makes a mistake or comes up
03:15short and this is a trickle effect so let's see here hammocker doesn't double
03:20and then that's what starts to cause it Evan Ferry looks like he comes up short
03:24but you see right there it's like Joe gets caught up on Luke clout's bike and
03:28then I don't know how his left leg what it got caught on no fits is so hard to tell
03:35with everything going bikes going everywhere but but Gavin towers on the 73 the 82
03:40Caden Dudney the 101 of Luke clout the 30 of Joe Shimoda Evan Ferry continued while
03:48his teammate went down oh that was sorry I was okay sorry excuse me man
03:57yeah yeah it's tough you know those rhythm lanes um after the start I mean again if one guy makes
04:04a
04:05mistake you know it just could cause chaos it's easy to happen coming off that first corner
04:18we can we can see from our booth that the alpine stars medical team uh assisting Joe Shimoda who's still
04:26on the track you saw it for yourself he was clutching his left leg there we go
04:34so just a reminder of the red start the red flag pardon me restart rule uh that if the race
04:40is
04:40stopped with fewer than three laps completed by the leader which we that's exactly where we're at
04:43it's a complete restart of the race
04:58Mike pellets here from the uh the AMA is with us and Mike we just reminded the viewing audience of
05:03the of the restart rules there so complete restart yeah that is correct the full restart uh from the
05:08eight-legged starting it right over thank you very much as as Joe to the applause of the crowd
05:17Mike do they have to start in the same spot as they originally did that is correct they do have
05:22to
05:22gotcha thank you you're welcome oh man I'm so bummed for this guy just a quick reminder Joe came back
05:30from
05:30a significant off-season injury where he broke his neck had surgery great rehab came back he just told us
05:38yesterday that he's now feeling normal again strong on the bike bike fit got his cardio back feeling
05:46really good but not that left leg man
05:53yeah you just think about that journey how hard he worked with his rehab to get back and I think
05:58I
05:59thought he'd come out riding spectacular considering that injury I mean you go back to Arlington how close
06:06he was he was to winning that race and just wanted to line up and get through the weekend
06:13nearly won it oh JT yeah you just hate to see that and Ricky I know your your mom was
06:20so would harp on
06:21this stuff so much and trainers talk about this so much is how critical it is to get good starts
06:26and
06:26it's not just about the result it's about staying out of situations that are out of your control just
06:32like what happened with what happened to Joe Shimoda there it's so pivotal in a championship to get good
06:38starting positions and it just goes to show you get a bad start and you are almost a victim to
06:43what
06:43happens around you versus where kind of Seth and Davies were up front all right the bikes are getting
06:48fired up let's revisit what happened the 30th Shimoda there's Gavin Towers he goes a little wonky and
06:55comes up short with Nate Thrasher there and here comes Luke cloud he's got nowhere to go and he and
07:01Joe collide and down goes the Japanese rider Daxton Bennett did a nice job to miss him as well I'm
07:07wondering if Joe hurt his leg when he actually made impact on the place put on the face of the
07:13jump I
07:13don't think it had anything to do with Luke and his his leg get caught somewhere in Luke's bike so
07:20yeah I
07:20think just that impact and maybe just twisted who knows but regardless I hate to see it and JT you're
07:27exactly right I mean listen all these guys are so good at starts but unfortunately when you when you
07:32don't get the whole shot or you're not in that top two or three things like that can happen and
07:39it's part of racing always has been and always will be oh man so Joe Shimoda has arrived at the
07:47Alpine Stars truck the the medical center there which is at each and every round of the Monster
07:54Energy SMX World Championship so let's hit the restart button let's go again for the East Division
08:03who gets the best start this time set Amacher on the inside Cody shock on the 22 now Davies is
08:11gonna have to fight hard on the inside oh does he try to go make the move for the lead
08:16okay Amacher's
08:18able to triple out of that corner you gain so much time oh no and again a first lap pile
08:25up
08:25Gavin Towers unfortunately in it again panic with Derek Kelly and Daxton Benning man
08:37here comes Cole Davies tried tried to set up the 22 of Cody shock
08:45nice run through the whoops no surprise it's on that inside line sets himself up perfectly to get a good
08:52run
08:53run through there these next couple laps are going to be a lot of fun to watch now these two
08:57are very
08:58close to qualifying practice as far as time goes had an opportunity to talk to Seth Amacher after
09:06qualifying practice and he said man his track is sticky so your track your tires want to pull you to
09:13the left want to pull you to the right just don't know where it's going to go especially through these
09:17rhythm lanes as it becomes more rutted out on the face of the jumps it'll be very challenging
09:22race track so as you know in east-west showdown competition these heat races are like a regular
09:29main the riders relish the opportunity to go up against the other coast the other division and
09:35you're going to be in the top nine here in this heat to go through to the east-west showdown
09:40main event
09:40without having to be forced to go to the last chance qualifier this is a really tough position to be
09:47in
09:48if you're Seth Amacher not whoa not what you want to see your main competitor for the championship
09:54absolutely reeling you in and again Seth only thing he can do at this stage is just ride his laps
10:02what
10:02happens is what's going to happen if Davies is able to get by then just follow in and see where
10:09Cole is a
10:10little bit faster where he is making up time on you we obviously know that's in the whoops but at
10:15the
10:15same time you have to maintain a safe pace through the whoops as well that Hamacher told us yesterday
10:20after last weekend's runner-up pace he said look I've been around long enough that I know when to
10:26force it and when not to and he said Cole was riding so well last weekend I it was one
10:32of those times
10:32where I had to take second through the area of strength for Cole Davies he just blasts through
10:38those whoops and straight into the lead oh so fast no surprise but again I go back so frustrating if
10:45you are Seth Hamacher there's nothing you could do JT well you would if you're Seth you're hoping there's
10:53something you can do about it because a race like this where the whoops may not end up being the
10:58the
10:58storyline of the race even though that's where Cole made the pass they haven't been what
11:02everybody's talked about all day these are the type of events where Seth has to claw his way back
11:07into this championship because Cole has held such an edge at the races where the whoops have been so
11:13difficult you just have to wonder if Cole starts to win and dominantly win on tracks like this
11:18how are those other guys going to claw their way back in Will? JT you said the conversation hasn't
11:24necessarily been the whoops because of the conditions here today but wow has it been the conversation
11:29throughout the 250 planet for the last few rounds and it really has I don't think I've spoken to a
11:35single 250 rider that hasn't said I've been working on my whoops speed and that's been started by the
11:41speed that Cole Davies has had and Ricky is it even realistic the way Cole hits these whoops to think
11:47that any of these guys can actually learn that as a skill because everyone's kind of coming up short? I
11:51was just
11:52going to say Will that this is an opportunity what I think is going to happen eventually and it's just
11:56like
11:57progression they are going to learn how Cole is going through those whoops and they are going to
12:02progress that's what happens in all form of sport well we were just talking about it not so long ago
12:09whoa Cody's shock got out of his rhythm and here comes his teammate Devin Simonson it's a replay of last
12:16week side by side in the air when Devin Simonson had that wild ride and that wild experience and had
12:25just the most incredible save let's revisit it I asked Devin yesterday all right talk me through how
12:34you did this and he said it was totally instinctual I had no time to think I just acted and
12:40reacted in
12:41the moment and yep I had quite a bit of luck on my side and you think about you think
12:46about the luck
12:47that it took absolutely of not colliding with another rider going the opposite way and thank
12:53goodness it worked out for him but I haven't seen something like that in a long time but hey I
12:58got
12:59to tell you man Simonson has had a breakout here got his contract extended too yeah so he's gonna he's
13:06gonna do the majority of the pro motocross championship straight up earned it and he will
13:11be back next year as well well we always talk about the start how important it is well guess what
13:16now you
13:17can bet on the 450 main event full shot winner right now that's right the prop market is open and
13:24it's
13:24live right now scan the flow code or visit nxtbets.com slash play smx to claim a bonus and make
13:32your whole
13:32shot pick well we're talking to Devin yesterday Lee remember he was telling us I'm like hey what's some
13:38things that really stand out to you that uh Chad Reed tells you to do or be mindful of and
13:45he's like
13:45you know he always tells me that I have the speed and I can do this and then sometimes when
13:50I'm
13:51running up front I just need to be me and not override the bike and he's doing a great job
13:57man
13:57it's it's so cool to see I love seeing riders like him have breakout years and take that next step
14:04forward in their career here's Nick Romano on the 141 he is enjoying every single time he is on this
14:12bike
14:12a call-up and a comeback somebody's gone down there who is that Steven Simonson on the 89
14:21but he's still in the transfer zone so no problem there Nick Romano was holding off Henry Miller both
14:28Nick and Henry Miller coming off really good rides last week but up front
14:36on the final lap it's going to be a monster energy star Yamaha victory victory in both the west division
14:44heat and the east because Cole Davies has more than a four second lead and Cole's fastest is a
14:5154.4 Hayden's 53.8 now granted the track is a bit right here and not as good as it
14:57was in Hayden's race
15:01there you go another heat win for Cole Davies
15:05just like that that's his fourth on the season
15:09as we take you back and show you what happened to Devin Simonson
15:13yeah he tries to go triple all yeah remember what what I was saying when I talked to Seth
15:17Hammacher and how the ruts can pull you from one side to the other that is a perfect example of
15:22that
15:22that's how sticky this dirt it just grabs the side knobbies of the tires and pulls you any direction
15:30so it's not the result that he was hoping for or headed for but still in the top nine to
15:36go through to the
15:37second east west showdown of the year when we return
