04:21You don't want to get into contact early in the race.

04:32First place for the driver who won this Grand Prix back in 2022.
04:36That's how they made their way by.
04:38Absolutely phenomenal launch.
04:39Bit of a slow getaway for the Haas right in front of him.

04:43As we get to this first brake zone.
04:45You're at the mercy of the cars in front of you.
04:47You're not sure what opportunities are going to open up.
04:49You just kind of have to play it by ear.

05:42It's not as heavy as we saw yesterday when things had to be postponed.
05:46But it is raining out there with all the cars on intermediate tires.
05:50Lando Norris has got the gap down to the lead to nine tenths of a second.
05:56Let's have a look at Oliver Behrman.
05:58He got a penalty.
05:59Ten second time penalty for causing a collision.
06:02Oli, we have a ten second penalty for the collision with Colopinto.
06:06All right. He didn't even lose any time.
06:10And that was a replay of Max Verstappen getting past Fernando Elonte.
06:13And remember, he's doing this without DRS.
06:15He's just driving around these cars right now.
06:17These changing conditions, being creative on how to find the grip, where to find the grip.

06:27We've heard a lot of that from the Mercedes drivers this weekend.
06:30The repave not necessarily doing everything it normally does in terms of eliminating
06:35the bumps on a racetrack.
06:36And, man, Max Verstappen just hounding Piastri.

06:41I'm blown away at how much curb a lot of these drivers are able to take on the apex.
06:46Normally, in wet conditions, the painted curbs are quite a bit more slippery.
06:49And you see they're giving a little bit of leeway.
06:51Oh, here we go with Max Verstappen. Wasn't even a contest in another league right now.
06:57The man showing us why he's a three-time world champion.
07:01Piastri would have offered a defense if he thought he could.
07:04But Verstappen roars by. He's going past all of them.
07:08The driver who started so far back on the grid, now looking at the major points.
07:13He's up 10 places in the Grand Prix.
07:17This is extraordinary pace from Verstappen.
07:20This is the sort of drive that we talk about time and time again.
07:23But it's early stages.
07:25You've got to put all the stints together.
07:27The Red Bull is fighting.
07:29We haven't seen that.
07:30We saw a sprint victory for him in Austin.
07:31But in the Grand Prix format, the big prize, the 25 points for winning it.
07:36Max Verstappen hasn't won since the Spanish Grand Prix.
07:39And there won't be a contest there.
07:40That's the junior team not fighting the senior team.
07:43Another position gained.
07:44Lawson knows who he wants to join next year, and he doesn't fight it.
07:48Yeah, right now we've got a yellow flag in the third sector of the racetrack.
07:52And Lewis Hamilton is off the road.
07:55When he has been driving a Mercedes this weekend, he has been having a torrid time.
08:00Franco Colopinto trying to take advantage, currently hanging on to 12th position.
08:05Hamilton finding himself again struggling with the bouncing, with the ride.
08:10In between qualifying and the race, he was out in Senna's McLaren from 1990.
08:16And now the crowd are cheering for Colopinto, because he's going to pinch his way by as he gets to
08:22turn three.
08:23And the Argentine supporters in the grandstand absolutely love it.
08:28He's up to P12, and he's never finished lower since he joined Formula One.
08:33Just incredible stuff, capitalizing on that mistake from Lewis Hamilton.
08:37Thought Lewis was maybe going to try to hang around the outside as we see some side-by-side action
08:41there.
08:41Bottas and Behrman trying to sort it out, and the Haas gets ahead.
08:45So Bottas loses one position.
08:46Make that two, because Sergio Perez recovering from that spin earlier on, has climbed to 16th.
08:52This is a seven-time world champion continuing his difficult weekend.
08:55Yeah, it's been a struggle right from first practice.
08:58Let's see here, down in turn 12.
09:00A little bit of a lock-up.
09:01You see that left front tire just stop rotating through the grass.
09:07We think the time might become strict immediate in maybe six or seven laps or so.
09:11We need to get to the rain and then make the right time when it's stopped.
09:15Oh, that's a chop from Lewis Hamilton trying to hang on to the position.
09:18Oliver Behrman trying to take it away.
09:20And the battle of the two Brits that we didn't expect at the start of the weekend
09:24is resolved in favor of Oliver Behrman.
09:27So Sainz has gone through past Hamilton as well.
09:30And we're going to see at that corner again, are we?
09:34Lewis Hamilton, again with the lock-up, say goodbye to Colopinto.
09:37And it gave the opportunity to Carlos Sainz.
09:40And that is why Hamilton was trying to defend against the Haas.
09:43But Behrman able to get through.
09:45That car's not driving a little bit.
09:47He's locking up, bouncing everywhere.
09:50Understood.
09:50A big chop there from Lewis, but Oliver committed on the brakes there.
09:55A little bit of correction going in, but gives him lots of racing room on the exit.
09:59He's absolutely got the bit between his teeth.
10:04Big wiggle now from Leclerc. Verstappen closing in.
10:07We've revised the length of the race.
10:09Remember, we had two formation laps.
10:11One intentional, one a bit rogue and under investigation.
10:14We go down to 69 laps.
10:16That's been revised because the cars can't refuel.
10:18But the cars can attack, especially when they're being driven by Max Verstappen.
10:22Now he's putting together a champion's drive, but this time he's on the outside.
10:26And Charles Leclerc will defend for all he's worth.
10:28Verstappen knows there's a long way to go in this race, even if you take a lap off the count.
10:35This is Carlos Sainz, who started from the pit lane, inspecting the runoff on the exit of turn four.
10:42And this was how Lewis Hamilton was able to get close.
10:46Let's see what it's like.
10:47He's able to squeeze by.
10:48That was tight.
10:51Reign is really hammering down.
10:53This now is where it gets tricky.
10:56Does Charles Leclerc come into the pits?
10:57Does he take on new tyres?

11:00He is no longer part of this battle.
11:02Up to fifth place goes Max Verstappen as the rain gets heavier in the final corners of the racetrack.
11:07Good strategy from Ferrari.
11:10They had to get out of that train.
11:11They weren't making moves.
11:12If that rain is starting to come in heavier now, put those fresh tyres on.
11:16Navigating wetter conditions on those worn intermediates.
11:1925 hard laps already run on those becomes very tricky.
11:23And now every team up and down pit lane will be keeping a very close eye on the kind of
11:28lap times Leclerc can start pumping out here.

11:33For what reason?
11:34Don't do as a box tyre to take too much traffic.
11:37No, it's just starting to rain a lot.
11:38If you don't want me to box, I'll stay out.
11:40We think this tyre is going to be okay for a bit.
11:42We'd prefer to stay out.
11:44Yeah, and this is exactly why you have to have that conversation between the driver and pit wall.
11:49Lando wants to box.
11:50It's starting to rain.
11:51The tyres are worn.
11:52What the team knows that Lando doesn't is if he were to take now, where he would come out on
11:56the racetrack would be in traffic.
11:59And that is just going to hinder your ability to try to pull the undercut on George Russell.
12:03As we see a yellow flag in turn one.
12:05Is that Yuki?
12:05No, that's Liam Lawson.
12:06Liam Lawson off the road.
12:08And we are alerted to these things by the cheers from the grandstand.
12:12Because the crowd were remarking on the man who did so well in qualifying going deep into turn one.
12:17And that's cost him.
12:18The rain is hammering down now.
12:21Piastri, I believe, on Lawson.
12:23So yeah, this was the spin round for Liam Lawson from Oscar Piastri.
12:27Piastri just running out of patience to follow the New Zealander any longer.
12:32And he got a 10 second penalty for this.
12:36Lando Leclerc pitted for a new tire.
12:38He went into traffic and cannot clear it.
12:41Yeah, he cannot clear it.
12:42And as a result, his lap times are just exactly what the group in front of him is doing.
12:46And that's about the same pace as what the leaders, as we see a yellow flag now in sector one.
12:52Nico Hülkenberg.
12:53It's got to be Hülkenberg.
12:54He is static on our driver tracker.
12:57Hülkenberg has spun.
12:58I can see it out of the commentary box window.
12:59There he is as the rain hammers down.
13:01Hülkenberg is up on the old banking of the old circuit.
13:07And Hülkenberg usually so reliable when the rain has gone off.
13:10Can the leaders make it through?
13:11It's getting right on the limit of what is raceable here.
13:15The talent of these great drivers on full display.
13:18Hülkenberg can't move the car.
13:20The yellow flag is waving because of that Haas that is beached on the old banking at the moment.
13:25And it looks like his race is going no further.
13:28This is all about keeping the car pointing in the right direction.
13:33The virtual safety car is out to neutralize the race.
13:37And that was the spin for Hülkenberg in the first turn.
13:43And now he's found some drive.
13:45So control, alt, delete.
13:46And we go again.
13:47All right.
13:48The virtual safety car is ending.
13:49And George Russell cannot cope with the car on the circuit any longer.
13:54He comes into the pits.
13:56They take on the new tires.
13:57I think they'll have to.
13:58Does anyone just take the risk of this being cleared?
14:02Try and survive and maybe race control.
14:04Throw a red flag to interrupt that.
14:06And they've given up track position.
14:07The top two felt the need to come into the pits and take on new tires.
14:12And Russell gets out ahead.
14:14Esteban Ocon rolls the dice.
14:16He's hoping now for a full stoppage with these conditions.
14:20Russell and Norris didn't feel they could take this car any further on the tires that they had.
14:25And now Ocon and Verstappen are desperate for a safety car or a red flag.
14:31You see that weather alert predicting lighter rain in three minutes.
14:35Can you hold on to your car in these conditions for three more minutes until it starts?
14:40Look at the water on the racetrack.
14:42They have absolutely got to be contemplating calling this one, which would be devastating for Russell and Norris.
14:48And look at the plumes of spray.
14:50Look at Lando Norris going through.
14:52It's barely raceable out there.
14:54But the British driver gets past these countrymen.
14:57That is a crucial move to move up to fourth position.
15:00But they've given track position to Pierre Gasly, to Max Verstappen and to Esteban Ocon.
15:05And they are cheering once again out of the grandstands because the car control is too much.
15:10And the safety car is finally deployed to neutralize the race.
15:16Big crash into the wall for Franco Colopinto.
15:20Colopinto finds the barriers.
15:22It is a red flag.
15:23The race is interrupted with Esteban Ocon, the leader.
15:27But that is how easy it is.
15:28And look at the damage it did.
15:31Confirmation that Hülkenberg received outside assistance,
15:35which is why he was shown the black flag.
15:37That flag is to disqualify a driver from the race.
15:42You can change tires in pit lane at no penalty.
15:46So for the cars that didn't pit your top three, Ocon, Verstappen and Gasly,
15:51it is a free pit stop.
15:53They can put on whatever tires they want.
15:56It's still very wet out there.
15:58But the green flag flies at Sao Paulo once again.
16:02Esteban Ocon takes us back to racing conditions.
16:05And there's a good opportunity further back in the pack for a pass.
16:08Side by side moves further back.
16:09But the top five are in the same order.
16:12Charles Leclerc got up to P6.
16:14So Tsunoda drops down to seventh.
16:16Then Piastri trying to power through as well.
16:18So the only change in the order was Charles Leclerc managing to get through.
16:23Yuki Tsunoda down to seventh.
16:24Then it's Piastri in eighth.
16:26Alonso in ninth.
16:27Lawson completing the point scorers at the moment.
16:30And off the road goes Lando Norris.
16:32Lando Norris, can he stay ahead of George Russell?
16:34They go into turn number five.
16:36A moment of massive consequence.
16:38And who's going to get the inside line into the high-speed corner?
16:41Norris has to back out of it.
16:43Round the outside to take the place goes George Russell.
16:46Down to fifth goes Lando Norris.
16:48Up down fourth goes Russell.
16:51This is further back.
16:53Very close between Alonso and Hamilton in the battle for ninth position.
16:56I promise you, through the spray, they are there.
16:58Here's Hamilton.
16:59And Hamilton's going to get that move done.
17:01Finally, some good news for the seven-time world champion.
17:05He's finally going on the attack and up to ninth place.
17:08Oliver Behrman, who's been in that car occupied by Carlos Sainz earlier in the year
17:13when he substituted for the Spaniard.
17:14He's chasing him for 13th position at the moment.
17:17There's different risk levels being taken.
17:19Oh!
17:19And there's the evidence off the road into the tarmac runoff for Oliver Behrman,
17:24who nudges the barriers.
17:26Can he escape from there to keep his race going?
17:28But you could see some drivers were cautious, some were attacking.
17:33And for Behrman, that's the result.
17:35Let's take another look back.
17:37Just gets that one initial snap.
17:39Doesn't correct it all the way.
17:40Kind of carries that drift for a while.
17:42And eventually the rear just giving up all the way around.
17:45He hit fairly square, though.
17:47The tires on Lando Norris had six.
17:50Everybody had six.
17:51They all changed during that red flag.
17:53Oh, and we see the Ferrari going around.
17:55Into the wall!
17:56Carlos Sainz can't keep it on the road.
17:58And he spins into the barrier to bring out the safety car once again.
18:04And just immediately rear lockup into eight.
18:07That was a big hit.
18:08The cars just don't slow down in these conditions.
18:11The tracks, what you see, braking on the white line.
18:13The curbs, the paint, whether it's on the line or the curbs themselves,
18:16can be so, so slippery in these conditions.
18:20Formula One has been visiting this place since 1973 in the World Championship.
18:25And this is a race to remember.
18:27Ocon leaving it late.
18:29But Ocon leaving the field behind.
18:31They're very tightly bunched up in the background.
18:33There's a big opportunity for Charles Leclerc.
18:35There's a big opportunity for George Russell.
18:37But a better one for Max Verstappen, who finds himself taking the lead.
18:42As Lando Norris has gone off the road.
18:44The championship pendulum swings in one corner.
18:48Piastri gets past Norris, who drops down to seventh position.
18:51As Verstappen goes from 17th on the grid to the lead in Brazil.
18:57From bad to worse for Lando Norris.
18:59Not only does Verstappen take the lead, he falls back.
19:02As now the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso trying to hang on on the outside.
19:06Flirting with that white line that we just saw take out Carlos Sainz.
19:09But an incredible move from Max.
19:11We talked about it.
19:12That aggression was there.
19:13He went for it as Hamilton defending now against Liam Lawson at the top part of the racetrack.
19:19And now Lawson coming back on the inside into turn eight.
19:21Can he find his way past Hamilton?
19:24Hamilton's deep.
19:25Hamilton's nearly off.
19:26Alonso is off as well and gaining another place as they are swapping the order.
19:32Far more aggressive on this second restart than before.
19:35And now it's Piastri in sixth.
19:37Norris in seventh.
19:39Tsunoda is in eighth.
19:40Lawson got past the pair.
19:42And Alonso is the last of the point scorers at the moment.
19:45As Behrman, who was scrambling all over the road, is trying to overtake Lewis Hamilton.
19:50These two going wheel to wheel once again.
19:52This time off the road is Fernando Alonso once more.
19:56This is an inexplicable Grand Prix.
19:58As Alonso tumbles out of 10th place.
20:01And Perez takes the position.
20:03Let's take another look at this move again.
20:05He wasn't even sizing him up on the entry.
20:07His breaking point was just so much later.
20:10So much less pressure.
20:11Able to just get the move done.
20:12You see a little squiggle there from the Ferrari.
20:15Norris coming back on track just behind his teammate.
20:19You see the command now from McLaren to swap positions.
20:23That was expected.
20:24They didn't wait too long, which is the right thing to do now.
20:27Lando's got to be head down, attacking Russell.
20:31And that's Russell up to fourth.
20:33And Russell is able to get past Charles Leclerc.
20:35Don't expect that to be an issue.
20:36Russell didn't have to lift, didn't have to go off track to avoid the Ferrari.
20:40So no harm, no foul there.
20:43Perez racing with intent right now.
20:45He wants to get past Lawson.
20:47We've seen how strong he can be on the brakes into turn one.
20:49Maybe an opportunity here.
20:51Lawson defending to the inside.
20:53Checo goes to the outside, then ducks back in.
20:55The switchback move.
20:57The place gained.

20:59Lawson doesn't want to give it up.
21:01It's not that wide a racetrack.

21:08And Hamilton is desperately trying to fight back through.

21:17Hamilton had to back out of it in turn three.

21:20Didn't have an opportunity to get on checkup.
21:22But now he does.
21:22And Hamilton finds a way by.
21:25Sergio Perez showing that if you deviate from the racing line at certain corners,

21:33If you even go a wheel's width wide.
21:35And Hamilton didn't need a second invitation.
21:37He is up to 10th position.
21:40In the Brazilian reign, the Dutchman has delivered a defining drive.
21:46He climbs the hill back to Grand Prix victory.
