00:00Alright Meat Shields, listen up, because we've got a f***ing banger coming your way.
00:05Tell me, what could be worse than a bunch of banjo-playing squares showing up at your party uninvited?
00:12Oh, I don't know, maybe if they turned out to be bloodthirsty vampires who started hunting everyone down for sport,
00:18maybe?
00:18Yeah, but this is so much more than just a vampire movie.
00:22It's an amazing story that actually makes you care when the characters get ripped to shreds.
00:26And it all builds up to one of the craziest final battles that you'll ever see.
00:31So, uh, get ready because we're here to break down the mistakes made, what you should do, and how to
00:36beat the Irish Dracula in Sinners.
00:40This kid's about to give attracting the wrong crowd an entirely new meaning.
00:45It's just after sunrise when this guitarist, Sammy here, pulls up outside of his father's church.
00:50Whatever happened last night, it looks like he just got back from the craziest bender of his life.
00:55But the claw marks across his face tell a completely different story.
00:59You see, it all started yesterday, when his older cousins, the Smokestack Twins, came back to town.
01:06Now, these two are basically the coolest guys around, and they've got big plans to turn an old sawmill into
01:12the most poppin' juke joint that Clarksdale has ever seen.
01:15But as usual, someone's always trying to keep them down.
01:18You see, this is Mississippi in 1932, and if you know anything about what life was like back then, then
01:25you know exactly what kind of a-holes these guys are up against.
01:30Specifically, this landowner Hogwood here.
01:32But after showing him that they're packing more than just a fat bag of cash, he changes up his tune
01:37pretty quick.
01:38Now, Sammy has a big night ahead of him, because he's supposed to be playing guitar at the Twins' juke
01:44for its grand opening.
01:45The kid looks up to his cousins because they've been making it big in Chicago.
01:49But Smokest explains that deep down, they face the same problems everywhere they go.
01:55And Chicago ain't s***, but Mississippi with tall buildings instead of plantations.
02:00Which is why they've finally decided to make their way back home.
02:04All right, if you've ever tried to throw the most absolute lit party that you possibly could like the Twins
02:10here,
02:11then you know how hard it can be to stop the local Karens from shutting you down.
02:16But trust me, these guys have it so, so much worse.
02:20You see, Sammy here is a young sharecropper living in the Mississippi Delta,
02:23where every day he has to work long hours in the field for a share of the crop.
02:28Minus the cost of tools, seed, and rent, of course.
02:32Basically, it was a way of keeping his family in constant debt to the landowners,
02:36so that they could never really actually achieve economic freedom.
02:40So for Sammy, playing the guitar is more than just a hobby, it's like a chance to finally escape from
02:46poverty.
02:46Now, Smok here made a smart observation when he noticed that Hogwood had cleaned the barn's floor.
02:52And when he pointed it out, the man spit on the ground right in front of them.
02:57What this tells us is that Hogwood didn't clean it for them, he cleaned it because he has something to
03:02hide.
03:03And the vultures circling over the lake might be a sign that he's a lot more dangerous than they think.
03:09In 1930s Mississippi, they lived under the Jim Crow laws that forced racial segregation,
03:14meaning they could be beaten, locked up, or killed just for looking at a white person in the wrong way.
03:20And the police wouldn't do anything to stop it.
03:23That's why even just purchasing some land from this guy had Smok here stressed beyond belief.
03:29Like, maybe they could have tried using their contracts from Chicago to form a shell company
03:34and purchased the property that way,
03:36or even claimed the land was for a church if they wanted to be more low-key.
03:41But the fact that they even have to do that just goes to show how bad things really were.
03:45It's honestly really f***ing sad to know that this was going on all over the country less than a hundred
03:51years ago.
03:51And even though the twins seem like they can handle it,
03:54they have no idea that the other humans are just the start of their problems.
03:59Okay, boom.
04:00The gang has some work to do before the party starts,
04:03and worried that they're running late,
04:05Smok takes the truck into town for some last-minute supplies.
04:08This leaves Sammy to ride along with his smooth-talking cousin Stack,
04:12and they've got an even more important job,
04:15because now it's time to get the motherf***ing band back together.
04:18If his brother Stack is the brains of the operation,
04:21then Smok here is the muscle,
04:22and after keeping them both alive in the literal trenches of war,
04:26he's more than prepared for the hustle and bustle of small-town Clarksdale.
04:30Noticing that the street looks extra busy today,
04:33he pays one of the neighborhood girls to keep an eye on his truck.
04:36As expected, he hasn't even been in the store for two minutes
04:39before he hears the girl laying on his horn,
04:42and spots two small-time crooks stealing his beer.
04:45So he does what any sensible person would do,
04:48and pulls out the tool and shoots one of them straight in the ass.
04:52When the dude turns back around,
04:53it turns out that these two actually know each other,
04:56and now he's all apologetic after seeing that he messed with the wrong guy.
05:01But it still isn't enough to save his friend from taking a bullet to the knee,
05:04because Smok knows that he can't have anyone talking about how they almost robbed the twins.
05:10Smok heads back inside and pays his good friend Bo Chow,
05:13the store owner, to make sure that the guys he just shot can get patched up.
05:17When it comes to the party tonight, they've got the food and drinks covered,
05:20but now all they need is a sign to make it official,
05:23and Bo's wife Grace agrees to whip one up.
05:26On the other side of town,
05:28Sammy and Stack make their first stop at the train station,
05:30where they come up on legendary local performer Delta Slim.
05:34Now Slim here knows that his time is worth money,
05:37and it takes some persuading to make him ditch his reliable nightclub gig
05:42and come play music at the twins' juke,
05:44but after offering him double the cash,
05:46plus an unlimited supply of genuine Irish beer,
05:50they're finally able to get him on board to tickle the ivories tonight at the function.
05:55In fact, just a minute later,
05:57he's playing the blues right along with Sammy,
05:59like they've known each other their entire lives,
06:01and as a crowd gathers around to enjoy the show,
06:04Stack announces that there's more music, drinking, partying,
06:07and gambling on the way down at the old sawmill
06:10when their juke opens later on that night.
06:13Before they hit the road,
06:14Preacher Boy sees a face that he's seen before,
06:17and almost as if by fate,
06:19introduces himself to Pearline,
06:21a famous local singer,
06:22and unfortunately for Sammy here,
06:24she's married,
06:25but you can't blame the guy for shooting a shot.
06:27Of course, when you're as flashy as Stack here,
06:30you're going to attract some unwanted attention,
06:32and that's when his old sweetheart, Mary,
06:34comes up to confront him.
06:36Oh, she's furious at him for ghosting her after leaving for the war,
06:39and he tries to pretend like the two of them were never serious in the first place,
06:43but the truth is that he really does care a lot more than he's letting on.
06:49Okay, you know it's bad when smoke has to literally pop a cap in someone's ass
06:54before the party has even started.
06:56No matter how careful they are,
06:58it seems like these guys can't even stop in the store for more than five minutes
07:01without somebody trying to rob them,
07:03and there's obviously no police around to stop it.
07:06Plus, if he tried to report the crime,
07:08then he would probably be accused of something and end up in jail himself,
07:12and that's especially true when you realize they were stealing his beer.
07:16In 1932, the United States had prohibition laws making it illegal to sell,
07:21make, or transport alcoholic drinks anywhere in the country,
07:24meaning those bottles are as valuable as solid gold.
07:28I mean, nobody's going to show up to the party if there's no beer, right?
07:32So without it, the juke joint would be dead on the first night.
07:35Now, with that being said,
07:36because everything that they're doing is so illegal,
07:38it's important for them to keep an incredibly low profile.
07:41But between Smoke shooting two guys in broad daylight,
07:44his brother announcing their plans to everyone at the damn train station,
07:47and Sammy here hitting on a married woman,
07:50they're not exactly doing a great job,
07:52but they can't throw a party if they don't spread the word.
07:55Now, one of their best options could be through their friends the Chows.
07:59In many parts of the Mississippi Delta,
08:01Chinese Americans owned more than 90% of the grocery stores,
08:05serving both the black and white communities.
08:07This makes their store the perfect base to hand out invites and flyers,
08:11while making sure that the party crashers don't find out.
08:14I'd even change words on the flyer like party to juke,
08:17or religious words like revival or bible study.
08:20That way, only people in the know would get the message.
08:23They could even have Sammy here try and spreading the word through his father's church,
08:27because back in the day, churches were basically like the town group chat,
08:31making it a perfect place to get the word out without attracting any unwanted attention.
08:35Now, speaking of that, it might not be too bad of an idea to spread the rumor
08:40that there's a big illegal party happening somewhere else,
08:43you know, as a way to like throw off the authorities off their scent.
08:46But the truth is that the cops are actually the least of their worries,
08:50and nothing could prepare them for what's about to show up at the door.
08:53The squad's next stop is a cotton field,
08:56where they find their old friend Cornbread working hard to meet his quota.
08:59He's a prominent member of the community who's going to be working the door at Club Juke tonight,
09:03even if he doesn't know it yet.
09:05But Stack here works his usual magic,
09:07and it doesn't take long before they've got their bouncer.
09:10Now, they're not the only ones catching up with ghosts from the past.
09:14His brother, Smoke, has a personal job in town that's been long overdue.
09:19After finishing up in town, he stops by to visit his estranged wife, Annie,
09:23who he hasn't spoken to in years.
09:25They drifted apart after their infant daughter tragically passed away,
09:29and it made him lose faith in anything except for money and power.
09:33But Annie here still follows the old ways,
09:36and believes that her prayers have been keeping the twins safe.
09:39He knows that what he did was wrong,
09:41and as much as it hurts to admit it,
09:43he's finally worked up the courage to say that he's sorry.
09:46But tonight, those prayers are about to be put to the test.
09:49Meanwhile, at a small farmhouse somewhere out on the edge of town,
09:53a raggedy-looking man appears to drop right out of the sky,
09:57looking back at something over his shoulder as he staggers towards the door.
10:01His back is covered in painful-looking blisters,
10:03and he's literally sizzling like a damn chicken fajita
10:06until he's able to get out of the sun,
10:08explaining to this couple that he's being hunted by a group of Choctaw Indians,
10:13and offering to pay the couple in gold coins if they can keep him safe.
10:16When the hunters show up a few minutes later,
10:19the leader tries to warn Joan here that they don't have much time,
10:22but she tells him to beat it without taking his advice,
10:25and that right there was her biggest mistake.
10:28It's getting late, and the hunters leave in a hurry before the sun goes down,
10:31but strangely, when she goes back inside, there's no sign of her husband.
10:35As a matter of fact, the entire house is dead silent
10:38except for the sound of a rocking chair creaking against the floorboards.
10:42But when she pokes her head into the back room to see what happened,
10:45she finds the stranger with his mouth covered in blood,
10:48and her husband lying face down on the floor.
10:51All of a sudden, her husband stands back up with his teeth transformed into razor-sharp fangs,
10:57and there's nothing that she can do but scream as he turns to come after her next,
11:02making two down with ten more to go.
11:05All right, just when it seemed like things in this town couldn't get any worse,
11:10these two had to go and let Dracula's Irish cousin here play them like some damn fools.
11:15Well, it couldn't have happened to a better couple,
11:18and by that, I don't mean that you were both good people.
11:21I mean you both totally deserved it.
11:23But if one thing's for sure, it looks like you two just f***ed up.
11:27Now, to be perfectly fair, right?
11:29Nobody goes about their day expecting a damn vampire to show up at their door,
11:33but this guy couldn't have been more suspicious if he was still wearing handcuffs.
11:37Maybe you missed the fact that he's literally smoking from being in the sunlight,
11:42his mouth looks like it's full of blood, and he's covered in third-degree burns.
11:46But as soon as he mentioned who was after him,
11:48that's when you should have realized that something truly dangerous was going on.
11:52You said yourselves that the Choctaw hunters hadn't been in the area for many years.
11:57Well, that's because most of them were forcibly resettled all the way back out in Oklahoma in the 1830s,
12:03and the ones who were still around would never risk interacting with idiots like you
12:07unless they had a damn good reason to do it.
12:10So, either those hunters traveled literally hundreds of miles just to kill this guy,
12:15or they're risking being caught and kicked off their land.
12:18But whatever he did, it must have been really f***ing bad to get them so angry.
12:23Plus, if he only managed to get away with nothing but the clothes on his back,
12:27then how the hell did they miss his pocket full of gold coins?
12:31Unless he was hiding them somewhere that you don't want to know.
12:34And in that case, I would just tell him to keep the damn money.
12:36That right there was your sign to shut the door in his face and let nature take its course.
12:41But as soon as he saw you too had that new Yeezy merch in your closet,
12:46if you know what I mean, he knew that you were dumb enough to fall for anything.
12:50Those hunters weren't trespassing, they were trying to save your damn lives.
12:54And if you weren't so blinded by your racism,
12:56they could have saved you and everyone else in town from what's about to happen.
13:01But thanks to these idiots,
13:03this guy's about to wipe out half of Clarksdale in just a matter of hours.
13:06And now there's nothing that anyone can do to stop it.
13:09So, on behalf of everyone who lives there,
13:12thanks a lot, you couple of saltines,
13:14because it looks like you two just f***ed up.
13:17Now it's officially time to kick things off at Club Juke,
13:20but it doesn't take long before the twins run into some trouble.
13:22Smoke only wants the bar to take real cash,
13:26and some of the guests are trying to pay with plantation coins.
13:30But Stack insists that they need to put up with it so that everybody feels welcome.
13:34They've got their hands full already,
13:36so when Mary shows up and starts looking for his cousin,
13:39Sammy steps in and tries to show her the door,
13:42only to find out that Mary's mother raised Stack and Smoke like they were her own sons.
13:47Stack eventually comes to throw her out, but it's not because he wants to.
13:51Being honest for the first time, he confesses that he's always been in love with her,
13:55but he knows that pushing her away is all that he can do to keep her safe.
14:00Now that Delta Slim has the crowd all warmed up,
14:02it's time for Sammy here to finally show off his stuff.
14:05And getting everyone's attention, he calls the kid to join him up on stage.
14:09Grabbing his guitar, Sammy starts playing a song that he wrote for his father,
14:13and it's some of the most powerful blues music that anyone has ever heard.
14:17In fact, the crowd joins in, and the energy in the room becomes almost magical,
14:22and opens up a doorway through time itself,
14:25as the spirits of Sammy's ancestors, both past and future,
14:29come to add their own music to the party.
14:31But the truth is that they're not the only ones who are listening.
14:35Outside, the vampire and his new followers are drawn in by Sammy's musical and spiritual talent,
14:40and it doesn't take long before he decides that he wants that power for himself.
14:45Now, Cornbread here can tell that these three look like trouble from a mile away,
14:50and he quickly sends for the twins when he sees them approaching the door.
14:53The leader introduces himself as Remick,
14:56claiming that the three are a traveling band from North Carolina,
14:59and asks if they can come inside for a warm meal.
15:02Everyone at the door is a serious business person,
15:05and after considering what the optics would be like of having white people at the function,
15:10Remick here promises that they aren't looking for trouble,
15:13offering more money and not wanting to take no for an answer.
15:17That's when Smoke reaches for the Blickie,
15:19and even then he says that they'll be camped up out on the road just in case they change their
15:24minds.
15:25Of course, Stack here thinks that it was a mistake to turn away paying customers,
15:29but his brother knows better,
15:31because even if they promise not to cause any problems,
15:34the simple act of letting them in would be dangerous for everybody else.
15:38There are so many people on the dance floor,
15:41and it looks like they should be rolling in the cash,
15:43but the problem is, most of them are paying with the plantation credits,
15:46and at this rate, the twins will be broke in a matter of weeks.
15:50As if that wasn't bad enough,
15:52Mary finally pieces together that the twins made all their money
15:55by stealing from rival gangs back in the Chicago area,
15:59specifically beer from the Irish and wine from the Italians,
16:03making it even more important for their nightclub business to become a success.
16:07Now, Mary knows that the strangers will be more willing to trust her,
16:11so she offers to go and find out just how much these traveling musicians have to offer,
16:18and Stack reluctantly agrees to the idea,
16:20giving her his pistol just in case they try anything funny.
16:24Alright, as usual, Smoke's instincts were spot on,
16:28but he has no idea just how right he really is.
16:31The only reason they're even considering letting Remick and his group inside
16:34is because they're short on dinero,
16:36but with that being said, inviting him in would obviously be a huge mistake.
16:41Of course, we already know that they're vampires,
16:43but even for regular people, there was something else about them that just didn't add up.
16:48Now, as a white Irish banjo group who say that they're from North Carolina,
16:52you'd expect them to play something like Appalachian or Irish folk songs,
16:56but instead, they chose to play pick poor Robin Cleen,
16:59a song originally recorded by a black blues artist named Gishi Wiley.
17:03It's like they heard the music from outside,
17:05and then deliberately chose to play blues as a way to manipulate them,
17:10but couldn't get it right because it didn't come from the soul.
17:13Which just adds to the reasons of why they can't be trusted.
17:16Plus, like Smoke pointed out,
17:18there are plenty of other establishments more their style right down the road,
17:23so the fact that these three random white people are so dead set
17:26on getting inside their juke is incredibly sus,
17:29no matter how you look at it.
17:31Now, obviously, their decision to not let them in
17:33was the best choice that they could have made
17:36because everyone knows that vampires can't enter private property
17:39unless they're directly invited inside.
17:42But even without knowing that they're all a bunch of bloodsuckers,
17:44Smoke's right to want to keep them out.
17:46If anything happened between them and one of their customers,
17:49the police would immediately be on their side
17:51even without any actual proof.
17:53So, if they wanted to be extra careful,
17:56they could make an announcement
17:57that there was a group of sketchy white people
17:59hanging around down the road,
18:01warning guests to stay away from them.
18:03That way, they'd at least have a fighting chance
18:05as they left the party.
18:06Now, as long as they refuse to let them in,
18:09they'll all be perfectly safe,
18:10but the moment that anybody steps out that door,
18:13they're gonna be as good as dead,
18:15and that's why what Mary's about to do here
18:17is such a terrible idea.
18:19Although they're losing out on money for tonight,
18:22Smoke mentions that they still have about two months
18:25before they're completely out of cash.
18:26So, instead of resorting to dealing with Remick and his squad,
18:30they should just take the L for now
18:32and work out a system
18:33where they either stop taking plantation coins
18:35or find a way to trade them at the company stores
18:38for useful supplies like groceries
18:41to keep the juke up and running.
18:43Then they wouldn't have to risk any trouble
18:44with Remick and his friends,
18:46but they won't really be able to fight back
18:48until they actually know what they're up against,
18:50and unfortunately,
18:51that's something they're gonna have to learn the hard way.
18:54Mary doesn't really have to go far
18:56before she comes across the man and his friends
18:58posted up on a log jamming just down the road.
19:02Sitting down, she politely cuts to the chase
19:04and asks to have a solid look at the paper.
19:06But instead of good old US dollars,
19:09this dude gives her a handful of solid gold coins.
19:12By now, Mary can tell that there's something
19:14seriously weird going on with these people,
19:16and suddenly, Remick's eyes begin to glow
19:18as he starts leaning down to bite her neck.
19:21Reacting quickly, she pulls out the Draco
19:23and tells him to get to Stepin',
19:25but the moment that she turns her back to walk inside,
19:28the monster suddenly takes flight
19:30and attacks before she even knows what hit her,
19:33making three down with nine more to go.
19:36Now that the elder kindred have Mary under their control,
19:39she's able to walk right into the party
19:41without being questioned,
19:42because Cornbread here obviously doesn't think twice
19:45about letting her inside.
19:46A minute later, Delta Slim steps out for some fresh air,
19:49so Cornbread asks him to watch the door
19:52while he goes to take a leak,
19:53never suspecting that it's the last time
19:55he'll ever be seen alive.
19:57He wanders off down the road just far enough
19:59to get some privacy,
20:00until suddenly, a pair of glowing eyes appears
20:03out of the shadows right behind him,
20:05and just like Mary, he's taken by surprise
20:08before he even has a chance to react,
20:10making four down with eight more to go.
20:13Now meanwhile back inside,
20:15they're all too distracted to notice Mary
20:16pulling Stack away from the eyes of the crowd.
20:19At the same time, Smoke sends Sammy
20:21to find his brother for some help breaking up a fight,
20:24but by the time that they get there,
20:26it's already too late.
20:27Opening the door, they're both horrified
20:30to see Mary curled over Stack's body
20:32as she's violently tearing at his throat.
20:34Noticing that she's been busted,
20:36Mary gets up, mouth covered in blood,
20:38and starts trying to explain herself.
20:40But Smoke doesn't hesitate to dual wield
20:43and dumps every shot but one straight into her chest.
20:46The party people are shook,
20:48and everything suddenly goes quiet
20:49as the shots ring out.
20:51But then, a second later,
20:53Mary just stands back up,
20:56laughing as she pushes past Smoke's last bullet
20:59and escapes back out into the night.
21:02Now to call this moment heartbreaking
21:03would be an understatement
21:05as Smoke rushes to his brother's side.
21:08And knowing that there's nothing that he can do,
21:10he tells Stack that he loves him one last time
21:12before he finally dies from the injuries.
21:14So unfortunately, you know, I gotta say it,
21:18that makes five down with seven more to go.
21:21Now after seeing this,
21:22Delta Slim immediately tells everyone
21:24that it's time to hit the road and go home,
21:26never realizing that he's just sent them
21:28all out there to be slaughtered.
21:30The gang is still trying to piece together
21:32what the hell even happened,
21:34but Annie here knows
21:35that there has to be more to the story.
21:37Asking Sammy for more details,
21:39she learns that Mary said,
21:41we are gonna kill all of you.
21:43And that word makes all the difference.
21:46To her, it's obvious that they've been attacked
21:47by something supernatural,
21:49like possibly an evil spirit known as a haint.
21:52And although it hurts to say it,
21:53she wants to get Stack's body outside
21:55before things can get any worse.
21:57But Smoke refuses to let them anywhere near his brother,
22:01still coming to terms with the unthinkable.
22:04As for the Chows,
22:05Grace reminds Bo that with all due respect,
22:07now would be a good time to say their goodbyes
22:09and head back into town.
22:11After all, their daughter is probably wondering
22:13where the hell they are,
22:14and sends Bo to get the car ready
22:16with no idea that the vamps are still out there.
22:19But the minute that he leaves the barn,
22:21he's as already as good as dead,
22:23making six down with six more to go.
22:26Whoa, okay, well damn,
22:29meat shields,
22:30it looks like Count Freakula just struck again.
22:32Their friends never had a chance to see it coming,
22:35but now that they've witnessed an attack for themselves,
22:37they can finally start doing something about it,
22:40even if they're a little bit off
22:41when it comes to what they're fighting.
22:43One thing that's important to know about Annie here
22:45is that she practices hoodoo,
22:47a traditional African-American form of folk magic
22:50that was created and passed down by her ancestors.
22:53This kind of makes Annie like their secret weapon,
22:55so if they want to survive,
22:57then they better start listening to what she has to say.
22:59Now, Annie thinks they're facing off
23:01against something called a haint,
23:02a type of evil spirit from Southern folklore
23:04that targets the living and possesses their bodies.
23:07That might be a little different from a vampire,
23:10but at least it's a step in the right direction,
23:12and now they can start using her skills
23:14and knowledge to fight back.
23:16First off, the moment she realized
23:18something was outside the barn and hunting them,
23:20they should have told anyone who was left to stay inside,
23:24because they're going to need
23:25as many meat shields as they can get.
23:27It was already too late to save about 90% of the guests,
23:30but they completely forgot about Beau and Grace,
23:33and if they'd at least been able to warn her husband in time,
23:36then they'd have one less threat to face later.
23:39For now, though, they need to keep that door
23:40locked up tight until sunrise,
23:42because they have to assume that anyone out there
23:44has already been corrupted,
23:46so they don't want anyone else coming in or out.
23:49Although vampires and haints are completely different,
23:52some of the protective magic that Annie practices
23:54can actually work against both types of creatures.
23:57One of the simplest methods
23:59is by placing salt lines along the doorways and windowsills,
24:03which usually works as a barrier
24:05against most types of harmful spirits.
24:07So, if I were them, that's where I would start.
24:10Pieces of iron sometimes work in the same way,
24:13so if they have any nails or horseshoes lying around,
24:15now would be a good time to start placing them
24:17near any entrances for an extra layer of protection.
24:21But, uh, would any of that actually do much
24:23to stop a vampire?
24:25Probably not, if we're being real,
24:26but as long as they don't let any of them inside,
24:28then they should be safe.
24:29So, like Annie pointed out,
24:31their most important job is to take care of Stack's body.
24:34Because if he turns while he's still inside,
24:37then they're all completely screwed.
24:39Now, Smoke may not agree with it,
24:42but she needs to explain that it's the only way
24:44to keep everyone safe.
24:45Otherwise, they're gonna be in for a rude awakening
24:47when he gets up and starts chewing on people's necks.
24:51Ouch.
24:51Now, since Smoke won't let anyone take Stack's body outside,
24:55Annie respectfully locks him inside the closet instead
24:58and asks Sammy to watch over him.
25:00Just then, Cornbread comes strolling up for the first time
25:03since he disappeared and starts acting
25:04like he has absolutely no idea
25:06what the hell's been going on.
25:08But it doesn't take long
25:09before Annie sees straight through his bullsh**.
25:12Strangely, the guy refuses to step past the doorway
25:15unless somebody specifically invites him inside.
25:18But now that the cat's out of the bag,
25:20nobody is foolish enough to fall for his tricks.
25:24Outsmarted, it looks like he's about to leave,
25:26but that's when he remembers that he hasn't been paid yet
25:29and starts holding out his hand
25:30just beyond the edge of the door.
25:32Although the others say not to trust him,
25:34Smoke reaches into his pocket and pulls out the cash.
25:38But just as he goes to put it in his hand,
25:40the vampire suddenly grabs his arm and drags him outside.
25:44Within a split second, Smoke takes out his weapon
25:46and fires a shot straight through the monster's face.
25:49But now he's flat on his stomach
25:51and caught outside the safety of the barn.
25:53Rushing after him, Annie drags him back inside
25:56just as Cornbread gets up to attack again,
25:59slamming the door in his face
26:00as the monster stands there
26:02looking frustrated on the other side.
26:04Everybody's badly shaken up,
26:06but as if things weren't bad enough already,
26:08that's when they hear somebody knocking on the closet door.
26:11It's Stack,
26:12and he starts trying to convince his brother to let him out,
26:15pretending like he's suddenly feeling all better.
26:18The others know better than to trust him,
26:20and the more frustrated that he gets,
26:21he starts slamming on the other side harder and harder
26:24until finally, he just crashes straight through the door
26:28and lands directly on top of Sammy.
26:30They would all be screwed right now if it wasn't for Annie,
26:33who comes running back just in time
26:35to throw a jar of pickled garlic straight in his face.
26:38And as the creature runs away shouting in pain,
26:40she realizes exactly what they're facing off against,
26:43telling the others that Remick and his followers
26:46are actually a clan of vampires.
26:49Grace here wants to go outside and look for her husband,
26:52but the others know that she'll be dead as soon as she hits the door,
26:56so they convince her to hunker down with everyone here at the Juke
26:59and wait until sunrise.
27:01Taking the lead,
27:02Annie has everyone collect as many vampire fighting supplies
27:05as they can find,
27:06explaining that they can only be killed by the sun
27:09or a stake through the heart.
27:10Smoke asks if eliminating the leader can save his brother,
27:14but she explains that it's already too late
27:17once you've been infected,
27:18and the only way to help them is by killing them all one at a time,
27:22making him promise that he'll do the same for her
27:25in case she's ever bitten.
27:28Hey-o!
27:29Now we're talking.
27:30It looks like they finally figured out
27:32what Remick and his buddies really are,
27:34so now that they know the truth,
27:36it's time to update their strat.
27:38Annie's spot on about one thing
27:40because everyone knows that the best ways to kill a vampire
27:42are with daylight or a wooden stake,
27:44but there might still be a few other methods
27:46that they're overlooking.
27:47First is straight-up decapitation,
27:50which some stories say can stop the vampire
27:53from reanimating after it's being killed.
27:55On a symbolic level,
27:56it breaks the connection between the vampire's body and soul,
28:00but from a more practical standpoint,
28:02severing the brain from the spinal cord
28:04completely eliminates control over their motor functions,
28:07leaving them with no way to physically attack.
28:09Now one thing they have going for them
28:10is a healthy supply of firearms,
28:12but we know that shots to the body
28:14will only slow them down.
28:16With that being said,
28:17they have a few large caliber rifles
28:19that should be powerful enough
28:21to achieve the same effects
28:22as a decapitation with a well-placed hit.
28:25So from now on,
28:27they should focus on aiming for the head
28:29whenever possible
28:30and trying to make the most
28:31out of every weapon that they have.
28:33A machete, axe, or a sharpened shovel
28:35could also do the trick,
28:37but then of course you'd have to get in
28:38close enough to do the job.
28:40Besides that,
28:40even a better option is to try using fire
28:42because it destroys the vampire's body
28:44on a cellular level
28:46faster than their regeneration powers
28:48can keep up with.
28:49Here at the club,
28:50they have dozens of bottles of corn liquor,
28:52which is definitely flammable enough
28:54to use for Molotov cocktails,
28:56giving them an extremely powerful weapon
28:58that they can launch
28:59at the vampires from a long range.
29:01Now, Annie has them off to a good start
29:03by gathering garlic, silver, and wooden stakes
29:06just in case they have to fight,
29:07but as things stand,
29:09they're still protected by the fact
29:10that the vampires can't come past
29:12the threshold without an invite.
29:14So all they really have to do
29:16is stay locked inside the barn,
29:17and they should stay safe until the morning.
29:19The only problem is,
29:20it's never that simple.
29:22One of a vampire's greatest powers
29:23is the ability to manipulate your mind,
29:25and smoke almost fell for it twice
29:28since this whole thing started.
29:30So right now,
29:31they need to make a pact
29:32not to open the door again
29:33until morning no matter who shows up outside.
29:35As long as they keep the vampires out,
29:38surviving until sunrise should be easy,
29:40but of course,
29:41their buddy Remick here,
29:42he's still got a few more tricks up his sleeve.
29:44While they're searching the place for more gear,
29:46Pearline stumbles across a body
29:48that they haven't noticed before,
29:50and they immediately drag the guy outside
29:51before he turns.
29:53With a mysterious new dead body
29:55appearing in the barn,
29:56the survivors begin to worry
29:57that there could still be a vampire
29:58hiding amongst them.
30:00So Annie comes up with a plan to find out.
30:02Taking out a gar of Jarlik,
30:03she passes it around
30:04and tells each person to take a bite.
30:07Last in the circle is Delta Slim,
30:09and to everyone's shock,
30:11he starts choking
30:12as soon as the garlic hits his mouth.
30:13But he's finally able to pull it together
30:15and lock in,
30:17saying that all the fancy Irish beer
30:19must have messed up his stomach.
30:20Now they're starting to second guess what happened,
30:23and going back to where they found the body,
30:24they realize that it wasn't blood on the floor after all,
30:27the man was just passed out in a puddle of wine.
30:31At that exact moment,
30:31the man wakes up outside
30:33and starts begging the others to let him in,
30:35and realizing that the man was just passed out,
30:37they open the door,
30:38and Cornbread takes him down
30:40and sinks his fangs into the man's throat.
30:42That's when Grace's husband Bo
30:44comes walking out of the shadows
30:45and tells her that it's time to go home.
30:47But seeing that the usual tricks
30:49aren't going to cut it,
30:50the leader himself decides
30:51that it's time to join the negotiations.
30:54Remick appears,
30:55and promises that they can all live together
30:57like one big happy family
30:59if they would just let him inside.
31:01But if not,
31:02then they'll have to pay a visit
31:03to the woman's daughter,
31:04who is all alone back at the grocery store.
31:07It turns out that the vampires
31:08can now see each other's memories,
31:10and to prove it,
31:11he starts speaking in Chinese
31:13about things that only Bo would know.
31:15Just like that,
31:16he's got them trapped
31:17between two impossible decisions,
31:19but he decides to offer them another way out.
31:22You see,
31:22it's not all of them that he's interested in,
31:24it's just Sammy,
31:26and his gift to create a bridge
31:28to the spirit world with his music.
31:30Remick has been dead a long time,
31:32and he craves community,
31:33and longs to see his ancestors
31:35through the power of music.
31:37If they hand over Preacher Boy,
31:38the vampires promise
31:39that he'll let everybody go,
31:41but his friends would rather die
31:42than let the monsters take him.
31:44Turning on smoke,
31:45he reveals that their juke
31:46was destined to fail right from the start,
31:49because Hogwood and his racist buddies
31:51were just waiting out until the morning
31:53before they came to kill the twins
31:55and steal all their money,
31:57but the others drag him back inside
31:58just before he's about to break,
32:01with the vampires knowing
32:02that it's only a matter of time
32:03before somebody cracks.
32:05The meeting has smoke so badly shaken up
32:07that he can hardly think straight,
32:09but Grace here has officially decided
32:11that she has had enough.
32:12She's not about to sit back
32:13and wait for the vampires
32:14to go after her daughter,
32:15or anyone else in the town for that matter,
32:17and she wants smoke and the others
32:19to help her fight these bloodsuckers
32:21before they've killed
32:22even more of their friends.
32:24The problem is that the others
32:25still want to wait until the morning,
32:27but that's when they hear the hum
32:28of every vampire's voice joined together
32:31to the tune of Gishi Wilde's
32:33Pick Poor Robin Clean
32:34as they all surround the building.
32:36Grace tries covering her eyes
32:38to block the sound of her husband's voice,
32:40but she's horrified to discover
32:42that she can still hear him singing
32:43inside her own head,
32:45reaching her breaking point.
32:47She grabs the steak from the table
32:48as she rushes for the door,
32:50and smoke tries to cover her mouth
32:52as he realizes what's about to happen,
32:54but she bites his hand
32:55and shouts for the vampires
32:57to come on in, you mother
32:59which is when all hell
33:01finally breaks loose.
33:03Oh, wow.
33:05All right, now,
33:06that right there was one of the dumbest things
33:07that she could have possibly done.
33:09I mean, I totally get why Grace here
33:11was freaking out,
33:12but if her goal was to put up a decent fight,
33:14then this was definitely not the movie.
33:16Remick thought that he put them in checkmate
33:18when he mentioned going after her daughter,
33:20but this is that classic vampire manipulation
33:23that I was talking about earlier.
33:25He wanted her to panic and make a bad choice,
33:28but when you think about it,
33:29there was one major flaw in his plan
33:31that they could have tried
33:32to take advantage of first.
33:34Their daughter, Lisa,
33:35might be watching the store by herself,
33:38but she's incredibly street smart
33:39and would most likely never open the door
33:42this late at night
33:43for anyone except her parents.
33:44Now, they don't stand a chance
33:46at killing all of the vampires,
33:48but if they shifted their focus
33:49to only eliminating Bo,
33:50then they could have at least removed
33:52that threat from the board,
33:53so here's what I'm thinking.
33:54What they needed to do here
33:56was use the vampire's own powers against him
33:59by making him think
34:00that she was falling for the trick,
34:02using Grace to lure her husband
34:03into coming closer
34:04without actually inviting him inside.
34:06They'd probably take the bait
34:08since they almost had her earlier,
34:10but then as soon as he got close enough,
34:12somebody could throw a Molotov cocktail
34:14straight at Bo's feet,
34:15using it as a way to kill him
34:17without ever having to leave
34:18the safety of the barn.
34:19Now, it looks like their only choice
34:21is to get ready for a fight to the death,
34:23but besides all of the weapons
34:25they've already prepared,
34:26there's one crazy idea
34:28that just might work.
34:29Earlier, the vampire mentioned
34:31that he wanted Sammy
34:32because his music could connect him
34:34with the spirits
34:35of his old friends and family,
34:37but maybe this works both ways.
34:39So while his friends
34:40get ready to fight the vampires,
34:41Sammy here should go ahead
34:42and grab his guitar
34:43and start playing on it
34:44like his life depended on it,
34:45trying to call on the spirits
34:46of his own ancestors
34:48to help them fight the vampires
34:50like the ultimate battle of the bands.
34:52Clearly, it's a huge long shot,
34:54but with 30 vampires
34:55about to knock down their door,
34:57they're gonna need all the help
34:57that they can get.
34:58The survivors stand there,
35:00bracing for the fight
35:01until Remick finally opens the door,
35:03and Grace immediately
35:04chucks a Molotov cocktail
35:05straight at his head,
35:07but he swats it away
35:08over his shoulder
35:08as the vampires begin
35:10to swarm inside.
35:11Charging forward,
35:12she goes straight for her husband,
35:13tackling him into the flames
35:15as she drives a stake
35:16deep into his heart,
35:18but she's burned to death
35:19in the chaos
35:19with no way for her friends
35:21to save her.
35:22Hitting the leader
35:22with a spray of garlic water,
35:24Annie realizes
35:25that the other vampires
35:26feel his pain,
35:27but as she turns
35:28to share this information
35:29with Smoke,
35:30that's when his own brother
35:31pounces on top of her
35:32and savagely plunges
35:34his fangs
35:35straight into her neck.
35:36Perlene drives the vampire back
35:38with a bullet to the shoulder,
35:39but it's already too late
35:41to save her life,
35:42and rushing to her side,
35:43Smoke realizes
35:44that there's only one thing
35:45left for him to do.
35:46Heartbroken,
35:47he tells his wife
35:47that he loves her
35:48before picking up a stake
35:49and piercing it
35:50straight through her chest,
35:52knowing that it was
35:52the only way to save her
35:53from turning into
35:54one of the undead.
35:55He's too stunned to move,
35:57but Delta Slim runs over
35:59and pulls him back
35:59to his feet,
36:00hustling the survivors
36:01to the stairs
36:02and telling them to run
36:03while he holds off
36:04the vampires.
36:05Using himself
36:05as a distraction,
36:06he lets the monsters
36:07swarm him
36:08while his friends
36:09run to safety,
36:10going out like a true badass,
36:11so at least they'll have
36:13a chance to survive,
36:14but it's not over yet.
36:15Just as they reach the loft,
36:17Remick and Stack
36:17come bursting through the door
36:19and the leader
36:19goes straight after Sammy
36:20while the twins
36:21are locked in a battle
36:23to the death.
36:24There's no possible way
36:25to defeat them all,
36:26and as his cousins
36:27yell for him to run,
36:28Sammy dives out
36:29of a second story door
36:30and starts limping
36:31towards the road.
36:32He doesn't make it far
36:33before Remick grabs his shoulder
36:35and sends him flying
36:37into a nearby lake.
36:38Meanwhile back inside,
36:39the twins are still kicking
36:40the absolute shit
36:41out of each other
36:42until Stack finally
36:43gets the upper hand,
36:44but as he leans down
36:45to bite his brother's throat,
36:47he's suddenly repelled
36:48by one of the protective charms
36:50given to him
36:51by his wife,
36:52allowing Smoke
36:52to hit him with a reversal
36:54and reach for his stake.
36:55Just when the vampire
36:56thinks that he has them beat,
36:58Sammy begins reciting
36:59the Lord's Prayer,
37:01distracting Remick
37:02by reminding him
37:03that the men
37:03who stole his father's land
37:05forced those words upon him.
37:07All the while,
37:08slowly reaching for his guitar,
37:10he shatters it
37:10over the creature's head,
37:12leaving the silver resonator
37:13buried deep
37:14into the side of his skull.
37:15It's almost a death blow,
37:17but it's still not enough
37:18to take the creature down
37:19until just at the last
37:20possible second,
37:21Smoke rushes in from behind
37:23and puts a stake
37:24straight through his heart,
37:26finally ending
37:27the vampire's reign of terror
37:28once and for all.
37:30A moment later,
37:30the sun rises up
37:31over the trees
37:32as the entire vampire horde
37:34suddenly bursts into flames
37:35and their leader
37:36is engulfed
37:37in a fiery tornado
37:38as his body disintegrates
37:40into ash.
37:41They're the only two survivors
37:43from their night of horrors
37:44and grateful that the kid
37:45is still alive,
37:46Smoke makes his cousin promise
37:48to live the quiet life
37:50from now on.
37:51Taking the keys to their car,
37:52Sammy travels back
37:53to his father's church
37:54where we found him
37:55at the beginning of the story,
37:56but as for Smoke,
37:57he still has
37:58some unfinished business
38:00to attend to,
38:01like clockwork.
38:02Hogwood and his racist friends
38:04pull up thinking
38:05that they're about
38:05to catch him off guard,
38:06but that's when Smoke
38:08starts unloading on them
38:09from the tree line
38:10with a high-powered rifle,
38:12taking out a squad of racists
38:14before they even know
38:15what hit them.
38:16Pulling a grenade,
38:17he tosses it into a truck
38:18just as the last three survivors
38:20tried to speed off,
38:21but he's finally hit
38:22in the process,
38:23leaving him
38:24with a deadly wound
38:25to the gut.
38:26Knowing that he's about to die,
38:28he finds Hogwood
38:28bleeding in the dirt
38:29and finishes him off,
38:31and now that it's finally over,
38:32a vision of Annie appears
38:34with their baby daughter,
38:36welcoming him over
38:37to the other side.
38:38Now, as for Sammy,
38:39he never gave up
38:40on those dreams
38:40of becoming a musician,
38:42and 60 years later,
38:44he's an old man
38:45nearing the end
38:46of his career.
38:47One night after they've closed,
38:49the bouncer says
38:49that some people outside
38:51have offered some money
38:52to come inside and see him,
38:53and before he knows
38:54what happened,
38:55the bouncer has let
38:56Stack and Mary
38:57come walking into the club.
38:59It turns out that his brother
39:00was the only one
39:01that Smoke couldn't kill,
39:03and he let him live
39:04as long as he promised
39:05to leave Sammy here alone.
39:08Well, now that he's an old man,
39:09the vampires came to offer him
39:11one more chance
39:12at eternal life,
39:13but Sammy says that
39:14he's seen enough of this place
39:16and is very satisfied
39:17with the life that he's lived.
39:19Stack abandons his plan
39:21and admits that
39:22over the years,
39:23he and Mary have collected
39:24every single album
39:25and are huge fans.
39:27Everything except
39:28the music he makes
39:29with the electric guitar,
39:31and asking Sammy
39:31if he still has
39:32the reel in him
39:33is extremely surprised
39:34to find his father's guitar
39:36restored and in working condition
39:39in Sammy's possession.
39:40After playing them
39:41one last song,
39:42he says goodbye
39:43to his cousin
39:44for the last time,
39:45but not before asking him
39:46if he still thinks
39:47of that day long ago
39:49at Club Juke.
39:50Pausing,
39:51Stack says that
39:52there's no doubt about that.
39:54It was the last time
39:55he saw his brother,
39:56the last time
39:57he saw the son,
39:58and for just a few hours,
40:00everybody was free.
40:03Sinners!
40:04Yes!
40:06I had no idea
40:06that I needed a sexy
40:07vampire dance battle movie
40:09in my life,
40:10but holy sh**
40:11they pulled it off.
40:12It's like,
40:12finally,
40:13somebody remembers
40:14how to make a good movie.
40:15Even the post-credits sequence
40:17took an already great film
40:19and elevated it
40:20to perfection.
40:21And Remick,
40:22holy sh**,
40:23greatest on-screen villain
40:24of the moment.
40:25The greatest villains
40:26in movies are the ones
40:27that truly believe
40:28that they're right,
40:29and, you know,
40:30Remick's story
40:31of why he did what he did
40:32was like,
40:33hey, I can relate.
40:34I want to see my homies too
40:35and I definitely want to jam
40:37while I'm doing it.
