Opening lines
Makoto, who loves children, was staring intently at a difficult
reference book in a corner of the local library.
With only a few weeks left until the bar exam, the pressure
to pass was crushing him.
Then, I heard the faint sounds of children playing.
When I looked over, I saw a large family with a mother and eight
children. The oldest child was about 10 years old.
They were all wearing secondhand clothes, but they were well
cared for and looked clean.
