00:00So how much of an impact does social media use have on our future and how has it haunted people,
00:08especially users, if they go for a job or even if they're a celebrity?
00:12I mean, it's not always a good look, is it?
00:15No, do you know what? I agree. I'm not I don't see WhatsApp as social media, but I'm very excited
00:22to set up our WhatsApp chat after the show ends and we'll see what comes up.
00:26Gemma, I always exit groups. I always exit groups. Apparently, it's really rude, but I don't care.
00:32OK, yeah, you can just mute, can't you?
00:38So Shane and I will be busy. Yes, you just have muted us.
00:41Can I tell you what I do? I put it on mute and an archive.
00:47We'll just set up a group between the two of us.
00:51No, no, I'll love it.
00:53So, yes, there are there's obviously it's well documented that social media posts have come back to haunt celebrities, politicians.
01:04But social media in itself has been a game changer in so many different aspects of our life, from politics
01:10to psychology.
01:12You know, we talk about reduced attention spans.
01:15We talk about the dopamine hit that people get from getting likes and comments and validation from strangers online.
01:24There's the long term implications.
01:26We've talked about the effect that it's had on the spread of misinformation and fake news.
01:33You know, we also you're seeing a lot of cross pollination across platforms where, you know, LinkedIn, people share very
01:42deep and personal things on that.
01:44And one would think that you would save something like that for Instagram.
01:47So it's it's all the kind of like one big mass where people are no longer just sharing business things
01:55on LinkedIn and lovely photos of their lunch on Instagram.
01:58It's it's really kind of crossing over now, you're right.
02:02Careers have been destroyed on social media when old posts have come back to haunt them.
02:09And I've always wondered, I think there's a spot in the market here for a company to clear up famous
02:17people's social media.
02:19You know, if you're embarking on a career in the public eye, we will go in and we will investigate
02:25your social media and get rid of any problematic tweets or posts for you.
02:30So, you know, we have seen either in the US famously, there was a politician called Anthony Weiner.
02:35He had posted explicit images on as it was then Twitter.
02:39And that, of course, is downfall led to his resignation from Congress.
02:43Yes, you've got the comedian and actress Roseanne Barr.
02:47She some of her tweets were found offensive tweets and it led to the cancellation of the reboot of her
02:53show.
02:53But then you've got celebrities who tweet in real time.
02:57You know, I think about Kanye West here.
02:59It wasn't that we discovered, you know, old messages from him.
03:02It was that he was doing it, you know, as and as and when.
03:06So, yeah, it's it's it has it's unless you are very aware of what you're saying, you know, you've got
03:13the likes of people like Leonardo DiCaprio.
03:15They never post their social media is strictly business and charitable endeavours.
03:20And that's probably a lesson for a lot of celebrities, I think.
