00:04on sale this week the lovely car look the Albus TE21 what a fantastic looking car
00:11this is a car to be proud of British engineer at the best down the road
00:18whizzing along it's lovely ain't she what a majestic old girl 1971 little Morris
00:24camper van there no matter what people say that you can't get away from the
00:28main purpose of converting a van like this is it doubled up as everyday
00:33transport so 1967 triumph there look at that 650 try and what a body machine as
00:40well he actually went to buy a greenhouse came back with the greenhouse stacked in
00:45the pickup and this this motorcycle beside the greenhouse and that's that's the
00:49type of thing he used to do he just used to sniff them out they're not
00:52unbelievable Rayleigh the Matthewsons a dynasty of classic car auctioneers 55
01:03the joys of an auction most people will go to us out with something in mind but come
01:07away with something different the fun is the chase you just don't know what's on
01:14the end of the phone what you're gonna find when you open them doors this is a
01:17family's love affair with motors that have lived a life testing testing most people will buy a car
01:24because they can relate to it maybe a car that dad had you're selling dreams right here we go
01:45it's another day of comings and goings and with the workers hard at it Derek's found the perfect
01:52excuse to escape tempting him today a 60 year old Alvis TE 21 be perfectly frank I've always wanted
02:02one they're like an upmarket mark 2 Jag if you like or you know maybe a slightly down market or
02:09left desirable Aston Martin they're that in that ilk
02:18I've sold a few cars in my time I wish I got a pan for everyone I'd be living somewhere
02:23warm over in
02:25Staffordshire Martin anchor has returned to his salesman's roots when you're showing somebody
02:31around a motor car they always want to go to the driver's door they want to sit in the car
02:35you keep
02:36them away from that as long as possible Martin sold cars for 60 years now he's doing a job on
02:42his 1965 Alvis beautifully designed vehicle I have added since I've owned the car the chrome wire wheels
02:50it had the steel wire wheels but I think the chrome wire wheels give it a little bit more character
02:55the
02:57car is fitted with a sunshine roof we have two very nice wide easy access doors presenting a very smart
03:10interior Duke of Edinburgh owned an Alvis TE convertible come on Alfie he thinks he's going out
03:18for the day nice twin exhaust pipes but the back of the round of car again very stylish this is
03:26in my
03:26opinion anyway I'm biased I suppose we're now getting to the exciting part you've shown the
03:33person the benefits of the motor car as you've taken the round of the styling of the car and the
03:37reasons why things are done um they are now very anxious to get into the driving seat so you've now
03:45got that person basically in your hand you can control what they want to do so it's like having
03:53Derek here we've got a beautiful Walnut dashboard um all the instruments there you've got rev counter
04:03speedometer oil pressure gauge water temperature gauge fuel gauge etc all the necessary equipment you
04:09need it's subtle stylish I recommend you go and buy one this is the ideal car for you have you
04:17bought your
04:17checkbook it'll be a wrench for Martin to sell the car which was left in by his late stepfather Douglas
04:31her name is the Duchess Douglas always described always it's all take the Duchess out today so you
04:39know it is a member of the family but time has to come when it's got to go sadly and
04:47of course any
04:48prospective buyer would like to see the engine
04:53got rid of all the pot it releases how long you had it for 30 bloody years
05:05I'm just sat in the seat put my hands straight on it
05:17was it worth the way of course because you never have to open the bonnet analysis you're such a
05:24wonderful reliable car so that's the reason why oh well there we are beautiful three litre
05:32six-cylinder Alvis engine lovely straight 130 odd brake horse engine twin s shoe carburettors all the
05:42equipment that you require for a very very nice motor car with four-wheeled don't knock disc brakes
05:48we'll drive quickly we'll stop quickly sadly I shed a few tears talking to her in the workshops but she's
05:59going to have to go somebody else will enjoy that motor car and continue with it and because it is
06:06a
06:06car to be proud of it knows British engineering at the best got back hang on a minute check front
06:22of the
06:30lorry it looks like Charlie's getting the hang of this collection lock
06:35right hang on hang on that is tight thank you look at that that's best bit that look at that
06:44bumper safer than car I remember when his granddad used to come in he used to run out to see
06:49how many
06:49clicks he could get to be better tight the tight the tight love he's picked up a 1963 mark one
06:57Ford
06:58cortina deluxe that's been stored in a melton mowbray lock-up for a decade hey she's a level
07:04old car charlie i think it's a straight genuine old thing a two-door cortina obviously you don't
07:11see them on every street corner do you so i think it's kept really really well obviously there's
07:16bits around it and but you can see where it's been damp look cross bottom of the door and that
07:20so
07:21to be fair i think he's caught it about at the right time if it had been in there another
07:2410
07:24years then it would be maybe be a different story wouldn't it gives a shove
07:34that's it that'll do
07:45oh me and amy are on top of the job of bike collections now aren't we yeah yeah in and
07:49out
07:49i don't know where we've been it's another beautiful day in yorkshire but that won't
07:55deter matthewson's top motorcycle sibling collection team we are going to bishop
08:02Auckland for quite a varied collection of bikes i'm led to believe ajfc so a nice variant of
08:08different motorbikes that should be good so yeah that should be a good one hopefully
08:12something keeps me right on the on the maps while the matthewsons risk a soaking see you soon see
08:19you later oh 60 miles away in county durham the weather's taken a turn for the better and the
08:25remnants of a 20-strong motorbike collection are waiting to be picked up it's part of his collections
08:31that some of the motorbikes have already been sold and this is we have five left four here and one
08:38up in
08:39his motorbike shed nigel henderson is moving on the last of his dad's bikes and cars alan died three
08:47years ago and by all accounts loved a bargain so that particular one um i remember one day he went
08:59to
08:59buy a seat for it and came back with two cars and no seat that's the sort of that's the
09:05sort of thing he
09:06would do um another time he went to get the seat for it and came back with another two motorbikes
09:13so everything was a project so in the summer months he used to uh mess on with his cars and
09:20his and his
09:20vintage pickup and in the winter months he would lock himself away in his motorbike shed um and do his
09:27motorbikes up so everything was a ongoing project some taken absolutely years amongst the whole there's
09:34royal enfield in bits a pair of triumphs and a 1960 ajs 250. he actually went to buy a greenhouse
09:43came back with the greenhouse stacked in the pickup and this this motorcycle beside the
09:48beside the greenhouse and that's that's the type of thing he used to do he just used to sniff them
09:52out
09:53they're not unbelievable really it's a similar story with the 1965 norton so he'd only gone for the paper
10:01and then the next thing you know this arrives daughters alison and fiona have seen it all before
10:08all these bikes here he used to share with people and deb would always have to take them
10:14to show his bikes and his cars and that wasn't he wasn't boston he always had a story to tell
10:21them
10:21he had a love for life he absolutely loved life every morning he would get up and he'd be looking
10:28for
10:28another project and something else to do also going to the auction at a later date are a couple of
10:34mercs
10:34an f-reg sel and a 1967 2.8 litre six-cylinder pagoda this was his pride and joy he's
10:45had it nearly 50
10:45years um probably been out in all that time twice in the rain on a sunday he would go up
10:52to barnard castle
10:53about 15 miles away get an ice cream sit and look at it sit on the bench look at his
10:58car drive it back
10:59home he'd be on his hands and knees and he'd be shoe polishing everybody back in the day would
11:05show polish the tires like this but he'd be laid on his back doing inside an absolute fanatic um
11:12absolutely loved it initially we didn't want to sell anything and i wanted to keep everything you know but
11:21there's only so much stuff you can keep isn't it and if the next chapter is as good as the
11:26chapters
11:26before we're on to a winner
11:49now martin lovely to see you likewise to see you like to see you lovely little spot
11:57here nice little place you got here isn't it well it's not bad big shed all got a big workshops
12:03yes
12:03way around there all day long can't you me bang on hey derek's landed in staffordshire to pick up
12:09martin anchor's 60 year old alvis but as always he's tempted by what else might be on offer i've got
12:16a bmc car in there that don't leak oil really well you drained it out have you it's well it's
12:23a morris
12:23thousand right it's the only one in bloody prison it is the only one in captivity well exactly yeah
12:30yeah nice of it yeah what do you reckon that's worth um got a soft spot for them i think
12:37they're
12:37great like you know and a nice one like that would do 10 grand wouldn't it yeah but eyes are
12:41soon back on
12:42the main attraction a 1965 alvis te in light metallic gold how long you had this since 1996 oh my
12:52word
12:53have you it's been in the family since 1969 a long time in it bloody hell they got overdrive on
13:00this
13:00no it's got five speed zf fox of course it has absolutely yeah you're just testing me aren't you
13:06yeah no i forgot it's got a zf nice isn't it if i hadn't been an aston man i'd have
13:13had one of these
13:14um all right what we won't mess about what do you reckon i should put as a reserve price on
13:20that
13:21oh you won't like this
13:25all i can tell you is what i know it's worth what do you reckon it's worth 20 grand what
13:31you
13:31put on it it's entirely up to you but if it went for 20 derek i'd be satisfied
13:39yeah sits money in it yeah and if somebody wants to give me 30k for the number plate they can
13:44buy it
13:45as well i thought they'd put it more than that to be honest i think that's value for money
13:50nice car yes all right yeah it's um you've got to make allowances for an alvis you have because
13:56there's so many poor ones out there but when you come across a nice one it's a bit of a
14:01novelty
14:02i mean it's not a minter not a concourse but it's pretty good steeped in history mate yeah
14:08can't buy that can you sorry i'm sad to see it go you feel it mate don't you yeah
14:15you know i know where you're going i've loved this car it's been a super car you know i've had
14:20hundreds of cars in my lifetime in the motor train and i've never been emotional about a motor car
14:27before no no oh my god ah now will it be all right driving one of these posh cars
14:37sweet old girl isn't it let's move as silk
14:45powerful old cars smooth and powerful and i hope you haven't been bored stiff to all congers
14:54tipped over up hadn't it just beautiful can't beat horsepower can you you cannot be
15:00you've got to go to somebody that'll love that car because it's
15:03well you've just driven it and i think you've enjoyed it
15:08go on derek don't prolong the agony bye baby
15:20and i could drive it yeah yeah
15:26the old cortina still badged as a console yeah they had that sort of crossover period didn't
15:32they yeah no funny isn't it yeah for the console before they went full bore cortina
15:38lurking in the showroom the dusty ford that charlie brought in from melton mowbray
15:43the appeal of that is what the amount of doors it's got all the amount of doors it hasn't got
15:49it's not great bless her but she's so genuine she's been in the garage for 30 odd years or something
15:54getting it i was lucky enough to have a lotus cortina mark one and i made the decision to sell
16:00it yeah i lost a little bit on that one of mine just proved you can't win on everything they
16:05were
16:05achieving in excess of 50 000 at one point 40-ish now they all want two doors four door half
16:13the
16:14price more equals less i know she's got some painting shoes and bits and pieces i get that but
16:19little lump there look little sweetie i think that car will achieve somewhere between three and a half
16:27and four thousand pound which seems incredibly good value to me yeah but if it was a four door a
16:35couple
16:35of grand for a four door and if you were talking lotus twin cam ah yeah a lotus twin cam
16:42in that
16:42condition they're wanting a bit of work are still yeah it'll still push 30 grand crazy in it really
16:53ford cortina deluxe there we are look two door cortina that's the one that ah yeah i picked it up
17:00been stood for about 20 i believe but 10 in the lockup that i got it out of so nice
17:06early two door
17:07cortina look we've got 3500 pounds and we're off it's been stood in a nice dry garage which is the
17:12best
17:12thing at three thousand seven hundred pounds here with me three eight it will make a car it should
17:18do more money than that really we will try at three nine i should think so at four thousand pounds
17:24then
17:24at four thousand four one four two at four thousand three hundred still provisional but we will try
17:32provisional norfolk at four three thank you i wasn't far enough i don't quite know whether it was over
17:39reserved it was all the way let's put it that way and yeah they had a five thousand pound reserve
17:45and the best bidder the day i could get was four three uh which has been accepted so right decision
17:51rightly so yes i think that's its money simple as that so away it goes
18:09there we go look do do do do oh blimey oh he likes his mercs hey guys you all right
18:17you all right
18:18yeah yeah nice to meet you nigel yeah nice to meet you jack jack and amy have made it to
18:24county durham
18:25to pick up the henderson family's motorbikes oh wow you've got a fair collection of bits and pieces
18:31aren't you nigel i had a good collection there's a there's a few gone now but uh this is what
18:36we've got
18:36left these were all his then were they yeah he he had a few more but we've you know we've
18:41sold them
18:42and then there's another one in bits that he's been doing up for the last 18 years everything's
18:49everything's a long-term project yeah i think do i spend the money on restoring that or do i go
18:55and
18:55buy another one to go with it yeah so that's that's the story i know where do you stop the
19:01bike market
19:02is a bit low at the moment yeah um it's certainly a buyer's market but it has sort of increased
19:07to
19:07be fair they did really die off for a couple of months but i suppose the sun's out now isn't
19:10it
19:10that's right so um obviously we'll try our best for you little butcher's bike i'll sneak in first
19:15in the corner this is clean isn't it it's finishing off a nice little bike isn't it
19:20these sell well yeah kind of buys them all that's why yeah
19:28i feel that he's with us watching these bikes go nine times out of ten i'd say us office girls
19:36the
19:36rest of them don't really get out but um but no it's just nice to see where they actually come
19:40from
19:41um and the story behind them and then obviously we see the other side of it as well um after
19:46they've
19:46sold and where they're going to you know i'm gonna have to start taking all the girls out with me
19:50you're gonna have to do one at a time gonna have to just keep changing passengers every month aren't
19:55i and then the ones that give you the wrong direction don't take them again
20:04thank you very much thank you safe journey home thanks bye bye
20:27the sun's shining and north yorkshire's looking its best the good weather's also brought the browsers
20:35out and derrick's homed in on a vehicle that for around eight grand has got holidays written all over
20:43it here we have basically it's an austin a60 van bagged as a morris which is fine which is 71
20:5172 as
20:52we can see it's a two-berth caravanette conversion it tickles me a bit really when you when you talk
20:58to people and they say i'm gonna have one of them new style pop-up roofs and fit it into
21:03me day van for
21:04argument's sake and i have to laugh because here we are 1970 and basically the same thing but better
21:12so it's not a pop-up roof it's an elevating roof this was the era when britain's post-war workers
21:19had
21:20spare time and cash to splash van makers like bedford and comma tapped into that as the country had its
21:27first camper van moment full height means you can stand up of course both ends rather than just one
21:33end no matter what people say that you can't get away from the main purpose of converting a van like
21:39this
21:40is it doubled up as everyday transport and with a top down it went into an everyday garage that's the
21:47big
21:47advantage
21:58oh dear no because it'd be like something out of carry-on camping wouldn't it pulling up on the
22:02campsite with that there's a little rail look you can hang your tea towel on it to dry when you've
22:08washed
22:08up what is that paul that 1971 morris oh lovely isn't it an a60 is it is it lovely yeah
22:16oh right
22:17it's a little early camper in it lovely lovely it's uh yeah no you're not seeing it you know i
22:24think
22:24she might be more of a five-star girl do you think so what the group or the hotel
22:32but it's got a bench seat so you could possibly fit three of you in there small people that would
22:37take the water in look and then that's for you for your petrol is that what it is paul is
22:42it is it
22:42yeah yeah it will be on it yeah yeah i would think that way around as well yeah you don't
22:47want to mix
22:47them up do you no no we've just very nice brushing your teeth with petrol would it must be clean
22:58uh 509 the 1971 morris there little morris camper van there oh you know a bit about these
23:04no there you are there we are you think i'd fit in that sun tour sun saw there we are
23:10no not familiar
23:12where are we you tell me anyone want to start me then five thousand pound asking
23:18anything on there will no i'm afraid i've got nothing on my sheet on this one no
23:32that's it for the motorhome and with no interest it returned to its owner for a proper staycation
23:41so
23:45alvis you want me to go and have a look at this alvis don't you it looks a real genuine
23:49old car
23:50though doesn't it i like bits like this right attention to detail isn't it just lovely in it
23:55they're lovely old girl aren't they they're good usable old car
24:00there's a kink there there's micro blistering here
24:04there's micro blistering everywhere really now we've all had micro blistering
24:09and it's gutting yeah moisture in the in either in or under the paint
24:15um as it won't show straight away you see they're lovely for a while and then they start and
24:21come to light and you think oh but let's be honest down the road whizzing along it's lovely
24:28isn't she what a majestic old girl
24:33alvis is one of the great and almost forgotten names of british car manufacturing but back in the
24:41day its vehicle set the standard for sporting excellence alvis also made airplane engines and
24:47armored cars but it was the glamorous tourists that captured the imagination made to the highest levels
24:53of luxury to rival bentley and jaguar the t21 series set the tone with its three liter engines adding
25:00speed and panache but as the 1960s rolled on sales dropped and the company was taken over by rover
25:08however in recent years the brand has been revived and the high-end high-spec tradition continues
25:18in my opinion that car there in that condition is worth late teens 20 if he's lucky lucky i can't
25:28see it lots
25:29of people that come into the classic movement all think they want a jag or an alvis or a whatever
25:35and
25:36uh in my opinion got it all wrong buy yourself a morris thousand there's one there look morris thousand
25:44mgb try it fair old maybe but certainly morris thousand mgb cheapest classic car in the world to
25:51run to maintain super reliable brilliant and then if it's for you then move on to the alvis and and
26:00you
26:00mark my words whoever has entered it whoever is selling it vendor best thing he can do buy himself a
26:06morris
26:06thousand it is honestly funny you say that because he has got a morris traveler there you go there you
26:15go yep brilliant i was right then one i hey look at that that's twice this week i've been right
26:21twice
26:24yeah so so that's my take on it yeah start off with a moggy finish off with a moggy brilliant
26:31and have
26:31everything else in between including including the alvis including the alvis it's a nice old cat she's all right
26:38all right she's yours the bishop opened bikes are back and there's a reception committee
26:52so to see another bike for you to go in with all the other bikes good a bit lone bikes
26:58we can do with a few
26:59more how many bikes have you got in 71 how many more do you want last year 140
27:12it's quite um interesting really if you think about it i mean it's got
27:17the uh the shockers always have clearly been in the sea for a few years haven't they there's no doubt
27:21about that uh and it's a royal enfield single 350 500 i don't know what and having joined the throng
27:30derrick's on the case it's a winter project that's it which winter is debatable but it's one of a few
27:37winters probably as well as an ajs and a norton there's a pair of triumphs including a classic
27:44off-roader it's a little triumph cub a little 200 cub nice little trailer upswept exhaust really does
27:51look the part sooty's a trialing man he'll tell you more about this i would think he's probably trialed
27:55them you ever trailed a cub no no no they're saying plenty enough yeah they're still popular
28:02they are popular in you know like pre-65 trails and stuff like that yeah yeah that's a nice little
28:08machine that actually and it's a right purposeful little bike isn't it pre-65 of course so it was
28:13pre-japanese who came over like they did with every other model of motorbike and wiped the floor
28:20with us unfortunately that's exactly what they did poor old cub never stood a chance though
28:24and the pick of the bunch a bike with great escape vibes it's a 650 that's a trophy and slightly
28:32different forks and rubber covers and stuff like that headlamps like this they just looked a little
28:38bit more i think they were maybe americanized built for the american market really because they do look
28:43they look like a steve mcqueen bike i think don't they you know it's got what the lads used to
28:48call a
28:48knacker catcher which was obviously it's a little rack to put your folded up mac and tie it on with
28:53a bungee
28:54and they said if you're unlucky enough and um went over the top you could easily get tangled up in
29:00there like you know but i think you'd have to get flies open at that time personally and i don't
29:04know
29:04many guys that drove rode these but they fly those flies open that but yeah i think the answer was
29:10keep
29:10your flies shut and keep your fingers crossed but that's i think so i think that'll do somewhere
29:18between three and a half and four and a half nice bike
29:23six one four is the lovely triumph 1967 triumph there look at that 650 triumph what a bonnie machine
29:30as well at 3 500 pound we've got at 3 500 pound then are we all done at 35 submit
29:37it at three five
29:38it's still provisional for the triumph 650 proving it's still a tricky market for old british bikes
29:47a 1960 ajs thousand pound cheap bike i'm gonna sell it provisionally down a thousand pound bargain of
29:53the day that provisional norton jubilee she's a nice old bike makes a change in the colors as well there
30:01you go at 1 500 pound we'll submit that for you the royal enfield there we are don't expect to
30:09ride it

30:29going to lose
30:29it 1400 quid still the cheapest bike in the world at 1425 1425 then i'm going to sell the ammo's
30:37coming down
30:37at 1425 sold too late missed it there you go which leaves one of derek's favorite forms of transport
30:47uh pushers spike uh tray's bike i used to ride one when i was 14 or 15 don't you where

31:48that are
31:48on provisional at the moment lot 614 the 1967 triumph you had a reserve of 4 000 it's done three

31:55half yeah and then the other one is the 1953 royal enfield reserve was 1200 it's done 800
32:02all right perfect that's all of them gone then bye all of them oh that's good news isn't it oh
32:10that's
32:10good i'm happy for him that is very unusual because almost every email i send out for people wanting to
32:16sell their bikes says that the bike market is at an all-time low so that's good happy fine he
32:23should
32:23be doing cartwheels shouldn't he because the bike market is is very volatile the old british bikes they
32:29really are very very difficult to re-home but bikes in general across the board a terrific value at the
32:37moment if you if you're like shall i shan't i buy them now because they cannot get a lot cheaper
32:42they really
32:59come you're in at 180 but 180 pound bid then nice size sign that but 180 pound bid but 180
33:06pound bid look
33:07mix on it up there you can see it 180 then provisionally for the first one of my favorite
33:13cars alvis te21 three litre straight six five speed gearbox beautiful car quality car hand-built car
33:23all these panels hand-built bit of micro blessing on the paintwork unfortunately right color right
33:30condition other than that it's going under the hammer now i think personally it's i know it's worth between
33:3520 and 25 award winner cups in the back and such like long-term ownership yeah i've always wanted
33:42one i would love this car first thing i must make crystal clear is the registration number is not
33:51going with the car what doesn't go with the car ash correct well done there you go then so the

34:46ever so
34:47much for your bidding at 16 500 pounds provisional to france thank you very much
34:55so the alvis will soon be leaving the building because originally we thought that car was gonna
35:01have to go for a lot more father thought that yeah but the the lady and gent that own the
35:06car
35:07martin he's happy to have the bid you know he wants the money not the car so anyway resurrected
35:12everyone's happy and he's left to paul to cement the on tone cordial with the new owner thank you bye
35:19now bye-bye fortunately he's english he's a lot better than my french so uh he he is taking the
35:27holiday
35:29in the south of france and it may take a a few day to make pay
35:37a few weeks later there's a new arrival in northern france complete with french number
35:42plates and talking of which the original uk registration has been kept by martin the former
35:49owner of the alvis
36:02hello i'm alistair and i'm rachel um and we're both from warney originally but living down in
36:07northumberland they're certainly a long way from home but this couple haven't lost their passion
36:13for all things with wheels we've had a motorbike in the conservatory um one christmas i came home to
36:20find the bonnet of my car at the end of my bed that was that was that was my dad
36:23that was me
36:24the conservatory was you so yeah i'm i'm used to it yeah
36:31is the choke on this one slack no no it's tightened up like it will just slowly creep
36:37i was surrounded by cars motorbikes tractors all that growing up so definitely had a lot of freedom
36:43in that regard used to work at a bike shop in orkney cycling shop so went from building
36:49push bikes and then as the usual way it goes it escalates to things with motors
36:55they built up a nice collection of their own the latest of which is a 1967 triumph trophy
37:02on the face of it it's as british as tea and biscuits but alistair has given it an american tweak
37:09i was always wanting to make it into a desert slide so i didn't want one that was
37:12either really really original or really highly restored and like immaculate because i'd feel bad
37:19taking off all those lovely exhausts and things like that because i was just wanting a desert slide
37:23so i was wanting something that was a good base for it for those not in the know hollywood heartthrob
37:28steve mcqueen was into desert sled bikes that were often adapted with high exhaust pipes for racing
37:35across california's arid trails because the pipes and the tires make such a big difference and change
37:40to the look of the bike these ones were the 955 so they give a nice line along the side
37:46here for
37:47the desert sled look new tire on the front trial style one all very desert sledy new brakes in there
37:53just
37:53improve it a bit and they've actually come up really well along with the right fitment of shocks
37:58well the ones that came on it when i bought it were half an inch short so i was buzzing
38:03the tire over
38:04some of the big bumps the chunky tires was kind of the biggest difference i noticed compared to other
38:11bikes that you've had just with the road noise whereas i'm used to more road road tires road bikes
38:17um but as far as being a passenger in the back um high exhaust keeps your leg warm
38:22yeah that's true
38:30alistair had been keeping an eye out for the right bike and with values of older british motorcycles
38:35falling he decided a price of three and a half grand was too good to miss
38:42it's got something that i could play with a bit and have a bit of fun with you weren't gonna
38:46look
38:46and then you had a look and then you had to buy it yeah it was a really good deal
38:51honest
38:54in recent months the triumph has been on its travels having been taken back to orkney to be
39:00shown off at the island's classic motor show it's always amazing the amount of stuff that comes out of
39:05the woodwork in orkney for the show like for such a small population on the whole the range of stuff
39:11that can be there definitely keep it and use it there's a few things i just want to tidy up
39:16with
39:16and probably through the winter i'll take it to bits and just give everything a really good clean and
39:21an update wiring and things like that i'm not wanting to go through it too much cosmetically because
39:27i like that oily rag side of it but just make it reliable good hopefully leak a little bit less
39:33but
39:34it's a british bike so it's gonna leak but you can only try so hard
39:49you've got such a big steering wheel so obviously it's light on the steering
39:52the clutch is soft she's not a racing girl you're not going to start overtaking things
39:57at 80 miles an hour because you wouldn't want to i like it i think it's nice to have a
40:00radio in it
40:01because you can't hear the engines i think it's a little bit um a bit like a sign machine
40:07on the leafy lanes of east anglia gary sutton's putting the 1963 ford cortina deluxe through its
40:14paces after some repair work to make it roadworthy again so we've got the engine running the brakes
40:21are done and everything's lovely i don't mind the color and a lot of people buy them like this one
40:27they turn them into like this because they're two doors um now if you've got to paint it white um
40:33i'm just going to paint it blue and then we'll see once it's done i must just sell it
40:39and i don't know it's just i think people collect pictures don't they or coins or whatever and i just
40:44collect this sort of stuff i remember when i was a kid you know what i mean
40:48so far so straightforward but gary has an itch that he just can't scratch
40:56so what why so many oh i've got some more but they're in the shed and i couldn't get them
41:00out in
41:00time but sorry you've got some more yeah yeah i've got nine altogether i don't yeah yeah i don't like
41:07obviously like driving them but just part of your collecting when you was young and uh i don't know
41:14just like them like the shape i like the back i like the size i can just about get in
41:17them
41:17because i'm a bit slimmer and um yeah i do i like the forward angler and all but a little
41:22bit tight
41:22again how many forward anglers have you got three a bit of three yeah i'm not being big-headed nothing
41:27i don't drink i don't smoke and i don't want to drink and i don't want to smoke i've got
41:31260 cars at
41:32one time how many 160 and the only reason i knew i had 160 because my daughters three daughters grasped
41:38me
41:38up to the mum and they went in the field and in the shed and they counted them and then
41:42they told the
41:43mum how many i got i wish i had them now but i've i've not got them now i'm down
41:47about wherever
41:47i don't know 80 90 but the cars i've got now are better cars than what i did have they're
41:52a little
41:53bit more money which would be the go-to one no this this white one i've had this like this
41:59look
42:00a lot but they ain't a proper lotus um i haven't drive that for about 15 years sorry gary you've
42:05not
42:06driven it for 15 years you know we pushed it around here because i knew you was coming
42:10in so the one that you've driven the most out of this lot is the one that you're perched on
42:15now yeah because i'm here filming you you made me yeah but we won't go into that
42:21come out does it i think to go in that car now be realistic 55 60 is about right you
42:28know i mean
42:28that's all you want to do because you're not you want to race you can go down by me you
42:31know
42:31because we're for saying but this is just a little beat the weight of people some people
42:35wave tunes and people love it i mean my dad had one my granddad had one and now i've got
42:40one and
42:40everybody's got one and well hang on you've got more than one well yeah i thought i don't drink a
42:45smoke
42:48and it seems gary's not quite reached the end of the road when it comes to cortinas he's now
42:54hanging up a mark to estate i might even tell the wife before i buy see how brave i get
42:59i'd like to come
43:00and film that so that was it so best thing not to tell the wives until you get it home
43:05you lived in
43:06and if you've really got the hump tell it belongs to your mate for a little while you'll be all
43:29right
43:30i'm
43:32i'm
43:43i'm
43:44oh
43:45oh
