00:02Last minute preparations have wrapped up here in Shawncliffe ahead of the race starting later this morning.
00:0729 boats are due to make their way to the starting line which is about five or six kilometres offshore.
00:13Those boats will travel north past the Sunshine Coast and Noosa as well as Garry before they make it to
00:19Gladstone.
00:20That's a journey of about 308 nautical miles or 570 kilometres.
00:24The race, which started off as a bit of fun between mates, has become a bit of an iconic Easter
00:29tradition.
00:30We're the second oldest race in Australia on the offshore circuit to Sydney to Hobart.
00:35We've been running, this is our 78th year.
00:38So it started out with six friends racing to Gladstone and sort of built from there.
00:42So we're looking forward to maintaining that into our 80th year in a couple of years time.
00:45This year conditions are looking favourable.
00:47That compares to years gone by when the boats have battled cyclonic conditions
00:51or even just a few years ago when there was no wind at all and the boats were bobbing around
00:56at sea.
00:56Those good conditions mean that all of the boats should make it to Gladstone by late on Sunday
