The Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit is one of the most advanced aircraft ever built.

Each bomber costs around $2.1 billion — more than the entire annual defense budget of New Zealand.

On radar, most aircraft appear large — like a bus.
The B-2 appears as small as a golf ball.

First flown in 1989, the aircraft was developed in California with a unique flying wing design — no tail, no nose, just a smooth stealth shape designed to avoid radar detection.

It can carry two bunker-buster bombs, powerful enough to penetrate multiple underground floors before detonation.

Only 19 B-2 bombers exist today.
Originally, the United States Congress planned to order 132, but 111 were cancelled.

So today, 19 aircraft perform the mission that 132 were originally meant to do.

00:00My name is the B2 Spirit, born in California in 1989.
00:03I am a flying wing, no tail, no nose, just a pure curved shape.
00:07I cost 2.1 billion dollars, that is New Zealand's entire annual defense budget,
00:12and last fare of Missouri to the Middle East and back, 19,000 kilometers.
00:15Nobody saw me the entire time.
00:17Every other plane on radar looks like a bus, I look like a golf ball.
00:20Radar hits me and just bounce away.
00:22I am basically invisible.
00:23I carry two bombs, each one weighs as much as four cars,
00:26and each one can punch through a building buried eight floors underground.
00:29In Juni 25, seven of us dropped 14 of these.
00:31Every single one hit, zero planes lost.
00:34Congress originally ordered 132 of me, then they said actually 21 is enough.
00:39Two of those 21 are now gone, so 19 of us are doing the work that was planned for 132.
00:44One more thing, my predecessor, the F-117, got shot down over Serbia by a radar system built in 1961.
00:50The man who shot it down went back to being a baker.
00:52I have never been shot down.
00:53The baker retired.
00:54I am still flying.
00:55The most expensive aircraft ever built, and you have probably never seen one in the sky.
01:00Follow War 2.
01:01Every day, a new weapon, a new story.
