00:00Star Wars does have a habit of leaving rather compelling questions unanswered for an eternity.
00:06I'm looking at you, Yoda's species, with it eventually getting to the point where the mystery itself is likely more
00:11interesting than whatever answer Lucasfilm eventually cook up.
00:14But in the case of the following ten questions, the long-awaited answers were largely worth the wait.
00:20With the years later reveal of why a famous army disappeared from the galaxy, some Force users wield particular weapons,
00:29and a legendary Jedi delivered quite a strange line being pretty darn fascinating.
00:35So I am Gareth, this is WhatCulture, and here are tense Star Wars answers given years later.
00:41Number 10, Who Played Boshek?
00:43As Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, C-3PO, and R2-D2 enter a little watering hole by the name of
00:50Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina, aka the Mos Eisley Cantina, both our heroes and the audience were introduced to a ton of
00:57interesting faces.
00:58Among that collection of scum and villainy knocking back beverages were everything from grumpy aqualish punters to grinning horned figures.
01:07But there was also a human there who seemingly passed on the chance to help the gang.
01:11Said dude was known as Boshek, and he could be seen gesturing towards Chewbacca before leaving him and Obi-Wan
01:19Kenobi alone to have a chat.
01:20As time went by, it was eventually revealed that Boshek was very much a smuggler, and one who actually came
01:27from the same world as Han Solo, Corellia.
01:30But precisely who played the sideburn sporting character?
01:34But that was a question that wasn't answered in the credits, folks, and it would remain a mystery for nearly
01:3840 years, until investigative journalist Billy Jensen finally discovered the truth in 2016.
01:45It turns out that Boshek was played by the late Francis Alfred Basil Tomlin, with his family getting in touch
01:51with Jensen to confirm it was him in the iconic movie chatting to Sir Alec Guinness.
01:56Now get this smuggler a credit.
01:57Number 9, What Did The Clone Wars Actually Look Like?
02:00So another question many a Star Wars lover coming out of that first trip to the galaxy far, far away
02:08was likely left asking involved the small matter of some battles.
02:12The Clone Wars, to be more precise.
02:14After being briefly mentioned by Leia Organa in her recorded message, and Obi-Wan Kenobi when discussing slash lying about
02:21Luke Skywalker's father to the son of Anakin,
02:24these hugely important battles are never really touched on again during the original trilogy.
02:29Without any real information about them in the movies, just about every single child brought upon those first few films
02:36no doubt spent years imagining what their own version of a war involving Jedi fighting on a battlefield would look
02:43like.
02:43Were the clones on the side of the Jedi all fighting against them?
02:46What did they even look like?
02:47It's easy to forget that these were just some of the questions that many fans waited a grand total of
02:5325 years to finally get George Lucas' answer to.
02:57With the release of the second prequel, Episode 2, Attack of the Clones, though, the titular troopers finally made their
03:03on-screen debut.
03:05Fighting alongside Yoda, Mace Windu, Anakin Skywalker, and Obi-Wan Kenobi,
03:09as they kicked off a clone war that people had been desperately wanting to see for a quarter of a
03:15century.
03:15Number 8. Why did Obi-Wan Kenobi call Vader Darth?
03:19That Jedi general who left fans wondering what the Clone Wars really were for decades,
03:24also managed to drop another mysterious moment into 1977's Star Wars.
03:29Easily one of the most iconic showdowns in the franchise's history,
03:33Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi's final battle on the Death Star may not have been as athletic as some
03:39of the fights to come,
03:40but that still didn't stop it being a hugely dramatic duel.
03:43But it was also a laser sword clash that contained a weird moment when Kenobi referred to his one-time
03:49padawan as just Darth.
03:51Now, this was obviously just a case of George Lucas not having decided in 1977 that Darth would eventually become
03:57the title used by Sith Lords.
03:59But within this universe, it still wasn't really explained for a long old time there why Kenobi chucked a Darth
04:06Vader.
04:06Now, some fans theorize that this was just Kenobi's way of mocking the fallen Jedi for choosing to turn to
04:12the dark side.
04:13Heh, death.
04:14After waiting a grand total of 45 years, though, an explanation was finally somewhat provided in the Obi-Wan Kenobi
04:22series.
04:23Kenobi calls his old friend Darth after their last emotional duel in the show,
04:29with it definitely feeling like his use of the title here was his way of finally accepting that his brother
04:34was truly lost.
04:36So there you have it.
04:37In canon, Kenobi using the term Darth when talking to his old apprentice
04:40was actually his way of showing the Sith Lord he'd accepted that Anakin was gone.
04:46And only Vader remained.
04:48Number 7.
04:48Where did the Chosen One prophecy come from?
04:50Before the prequel trilogy arrived, the concept of a Chosen One prophecy hadn't really been mentioned in the galaxy far,
04:58far away,
04:58but it would eventually become a crucial part of the Skywalker saga,
05:02with Qui-Gon Jinn's belief that Anakin Skywalker was said person who would bring balance to the Force,
05:08eventually leading to the rise and fall of the man who would become Vader.
05:13Despite being such a vital piece of the story being told, though,
05:16viewers weren't actually given that much information about the prophecy apart from the fact that said Chosen One would bring
05:22all of the balance.
05:232019 then brought with it the release of Claudia Gray's Master and Apprentice canon novel,
05:29with that book finally shedding some more light on the words which led the Jedi to believe that Annie was
05:34the one.
05:35In this book, which was released 14 years after Revenge of the Sith,
05:38both Dooku and Jinn are shown to be fascinated by prophecies placed within the holocron of prophecies by a Jedi
05:45mystic,
05:46with the latter studying them quite often.
05:48The Chosen One prophecy is, of course, sitting within it too,
05:51with the novel revealing the words of it after all these years.
05:55A Chosen One shall come, born of no father,
05:59and through him will ultimate balance in the Force be restored.
06:03It's not hard to see why Qui-Gon's ears pricked up when Shmi Skywalker mentioned Anakin's lack of father then.
06:08Number 6, when did the Empire stop using clone troopers?
06:12Despite evidently fighting on the side of the new galactic empire by the time Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith
06:18reached its end,
06:19clone troopers are nowhere to be seen in the original trilogy.
06:23Though their disappearance was somewhat touched on during the expanded universe stories,
06:27explaining that clones were just too damn expensive to keep producing,
06:31an official canon answer was something that fans were left waiting years for.
06:36But the truth behind precisely why-slash-when clones ultimately got replaced by human stormtroopers
06:42was finally shown in the Bad Batch animated series in 2023.
06:46In that show, after initially serving as Imperial stormtroopers during the early days of the Empire,
06:51it was again a case of the clones not being seen as cost-effective.
06:55The Empire began secretly having clones train some of their human recruits,
06:59before eventually using the destruction of the Kaminoan cloning facility as a way to phase them out.
07:05In the wake of Vice Admiral Edmund Rampart's attack on said facility on the orders of Grand Moff Tarkin,
07:11the Emperor appeared before the Senate,
07:14and explained that the clones blindly following Rampart's orders here was a sign that change was needed.
07:20Just like that, an Imperial Defence Recruitment Bill that had been rejected multiple times,
07:26a legislation which involved not relying on clones as much and recruiting more human soldiers instead,
07:32was finally passed, as the clones began to be gradually replaced,
07:36finally answering the question of what happened to all the clones.

07:51Number 5, what was the fate of Jar Jar Binks?
07:55Sadly, this Gungan wasn't actually revealed to have been an evil Sith Lord all along, folks.
08:00Well, not in the canon version of the galaxy far, far away at least.
08:03Instead, many years after Jar Jar Binks' final prequel appearance in Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith,
08:09those who love a good Star Wars novel were told about the depressing fate of this lovable buffoon.
08:16Binks did actually survive until after the Battle of Endor,
08:19according to Chuck Wendig's canon Aftermath Empire's End novel that was eventually released 12 years after the last prequel.
08:26But he was not living his best life by any means.
08:28By the time of the New Republic, the one-time senator was acting as a clown on the streets of
08:33Thede,
08:34after being exiled again by the Gungans for his part in the rise of the Empire,
08:38suggesting the Senate grant Palpatine emergency powers did not age very well.
08:42On the bright side, despite not being all that popular with adults,
08:45kids loved his antics. Sound familiar?
08:47For those left wondering what ever happened to the bumbling goofball after the prequels ended,
08:53well, this novel brought with it a quite tragic answer a decade later.
08:56Number 4. Why are Sith lightsabers red?
09:00Now, it wasn't too difficult to understand the real-life reasons for the colours of the weapons
09:04used by the Jedi and Sith during the original trilogy.
09:07George Lucas wanted to make it clear who the good and bad guys were,
09:11so used the more positive colours of blue and green for the former,
09:15while the latter boasted a blood-red lightsaber.
09:18But an actual in-universe reason for the differences in colour
09:21was something that wasn't offered up for quite some time.
09:24In Legends, it was eventually explained that the Sith
09:28generally used red synthetic lightsaber crystals to create their laser swords,
09:33instead of the Adagan crystals often used by Jedi.
09:36With these crystals first being mentioned in 1996's Shadows of the Empire novel,
09:41and eventually being established as the ones used in Sith weapons
09:44in a 2002 edition of Star Wars Insider,
09:47this would also replace the belief that the weapons simply reflected the personality of the person who held it.
09:52Then, when Disney came along and established a new canon,
09:56another answer to the question of why a Sith's lightsaber was red was provided.
10:00First appearing in 2017's Darth Vader comic series,
10:04it was revealed that a kyber crystal could actually be bled.
10:07After pouring all of the rage, fear, hate, and pain they could into said crystal via the dark side,
10:14a person would cause it to change and become the crimson weapon held by many a Sith Lord.
10:19Bleeding was finally shown on screen for the first time in the recent Disney Plus The Acolyte show, too.
10:26Even the earliest explanation of why a Sith lightsaber was red then
10:30still only technically arrived about 20 years after the release of the first film.
10:34That's a long old time.
10:35Number 3. What happened to Barriss Offee?
10:37While fans may have technically learned exactly what happened to the Jedi healer known as Barriss Offee in the expanded
10:44universe,
10:45spoiler, she died during Order 66,
10:47the same couldn't be said when it came to her canon fate.
10:50You see, the last that viewers saw of Ahsoka Tano's one-time pal on screen,
10:55she was being locked away for her attack on the Jedi Temple in Star Wars The Clone Wars.
10:59That The Wrong Jedi episode first aired back in 2013,
11:04with very little then being revealed about what exactly happened to Offee in the wake of Order 66
11:09in this new canon version of Star Wars history.
11:12But the recent Tales of the Empire animated series finally brought some long-awaited answers
11:17about what actually happened to this one-time Jedi.
11:20Being released from jail after the Jedi purge went down,
11:23Offee was given the chance to become an Inquisitor.
11:25From here, though, she'd eventually become disillusioned with the Empire,
11:29and turn her back on them before eventually choosing to become a healer.
11:32Whether or not the character survived being stabbed by the fourth sister
11:36in the last episode of the season remains to be seen,
11:39but those who'd spent years wondering what became of her in the Disney world of Star Wars
11:44were finally given some answers at least.
11:462. Where did Kira end up after Solo, A Star Wars Story?
11:50Ending on the mother of all cliffhangers,
11:53Solo, A Star Wars Story showed Kira having a chat
11:56with none other than the secret leader of Crimson Dawn himself, Maul,
12:01with the latter ordering her to come to him on Dathomir.
12:04But with that particular spin-off never being followed up on on-screen,
12:07viewers were left to wonder what on earth happened to Han Solo's former love
12:11in the years that followed the events of that movie.
12:14Thankfully, Kira's story was actually continued on the page about five years later,
12:18with a number of comics like Crimson Reign, War of the Bounty Hunters, and Hidden Empire
12:23revealing she was ultimately trained how to fight Sith by Maul,
12:27eventually became Crimson Dawn's new leader,
12:30and attempted to take down both the Emperor and Darth Vader in the end.
12:34Not only that, but Lady Kira also surprisingly intercepted a frozen-incarbonite Solo
12:39after the events of the Empire Strikes Back,
12:42before eventually trying to auction him off.
12:44She obviously wasn't quite able to stop the aforementioned Sith duo,
12:47and Kira eventually went into hiding,
12:49though it was at least revealed that she was still alive at the time of the Empire's fall.
12:53So while Kira's on-screen story was brought to an abrupt end thanks to Solo flopping in theatres,
12:59her journey in the comics half a decade later showed that she was still very much interacting
13:04with many a Star Wars icon in the time post-Solo,
13:07and having quite an effect on the galaxy far, far away too.
13:111. What Happened to Asajj Ventress
13:14Without doubt one of the cooler additions to the Star Wars franchise away from the big-screen adventures,
13:19the Force-sensitive Dathomirian known as Asajj Ventress made one hell of an impact throughout the Clone Wars.
13:26This one-time Jedi Padawan would eventually become Count Dooku's apprentice,
13:31clashing with the likes of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and more,
13:35before returning home to the Nightsisters after her master betrayed her.
13:39She'd then end up as a bounty hunter in the wake of the Nightsisters being massacred by General Grievous.
13:45After her last appearance in the Star Wars The Clone Wars animated series, though,
13:49surprisingly working with Ahsoka Tano after she was wrongly accused of bombing the Jedi Temple,
13:54viewers had to wait another two years to find out where Ventress' story took her next.
13:59The Dark Disciple novel by Christy Golden, made up of unproduced Clone Wars episodes,
14:04revealed that Ventress actually fell in love with Jedi Master Quinlan Vos,
14:08but sacrificed herself to save her lover who'd embraced the Dark Side from being killed by Dooku.
14:15Or so it seemed.
14:16Despite being apparently murdered by Force Lightning,
14:19those who long questioned whether this was really the end of Ventress
14:23were finally given an answer in the most recent season of The Bad Batch.
14:27Nine years on from her death in that novel,
14:30Ventress returned as a bounty hunting, yellow lightsaber-wielding Force in that animated show,
14:35testing Omega's M-counts and clashing with the titular clones.
14:39Now it wasn't fully explained exactly how she was able to dodge death here,
14:43but viewers at least finally know that her journey did not end at the hands of Dooku.
14:48Just took a few years to get there.
