01:29a
01:29year ago so we're gonna get these other smaller ones out the way right here we're gonna start out
01:34with your girl tully tully over there and with tully tully's about woman played by charlize theron
01:43and she is oh she's a wife she's a mother and she's finally reached that point her life where she
01:51is honest about her life kids don't mean shit no more kids ain't a miracle kids ain't beautiful in fact
01:58she would even go to school and say i know y'all hate my retarded son that's her words not
02:03ours she's
02:04like i know that we are not the ideal family that everybody loves i know that i'm not having sex
02:10with my
02:11husband and our lives have hit a standstill that we just have stopped everything and just gave all
02:17our dreams to the kids now we have given up but her rich brother says you know what the reason
02:22why
02:22i'm rich is because i think i think ahead and her brother and i got a vasectomy i got vasectomy
02:29too
02:29actually he's got three kids too but i got money to take care of them little bastards and uh uh
02:34uh that's
02:34mark duplass mark duplass plays her brother yeah who's actually very good in a role that's not huge
02:38here but he tells her he says listen you looking ugly then when you come in here you just look
02:43nasty
02:43girl these are wearing you out i'm gonna let me just give you some money to get yourself what they
02:48call a night nanny and what a night nanny does is that it's a nanny that comes at night takes
02:53care of
02:54the kids while tired as parents can sleep they can sleep they can go to bed and they need it
02:59too as you
03:00can see right here and that night nanny comes in the form of a young woman by the name of
03:05tully and tully
03:08comes in and she is almost like a mary poppins of sorts like if mary poppins existed and actually
03:14could help out realistic parents today that's what tully would be but she was a indie pixie chick yeah
03:20yeah if if if think about mary poppins if she had just come out of coachella yeah it was coming
03:28like take care of your kids and does it work does tully live up to all of the things that
03:38all the miracles that a night nanny has been promised let's go ahead and take a look at the
03:42trailer for tully and then we'll give you our review martin and i
03:53mom what's wrong with your body she just choked
03:58she was like i would whoop your ass around two times beat yourselves
04:04i'm here to help you with everything you can't fix the parts without treating the hole no one's
04:09treated my hole in a really long time
04:14oh music sounds like it's tired
04:19so here's the thing that's a more honest trailer than the one i've been seeing on tv oh is it
04:23yeah
04:24wow because this is the only trailer that i have seen no i was uh it was in houston last
04:29weekend with
04:29my mom hanging out with her and they showed a trailer for it where they were like the best
04:34reviewed comedy of the year and it was like just peppy music and showing just these funny parts
04:41and i was like oh that looks like fun i said mom i've seen this movie
04:46it is not a comedy man it's got humorous parts don't get me wrong throughout but i would never label
04:53this movie a comedy that trailer is lying that trailer is so full of
04:58shit hey yeah they not well maybe in some part but ain't nothing peppy happy go lucky with this
05:07movie it's a it's a long slog of a tragedy that's written with humorous bits to keep it going you
05:14know much like juno i suppose but uh yeah yeah but there ain't no good feeling man let me tell
05:21you
05:21something this movie is like a big promotion against overpopulation it is because it wouldn't you
05:28it's a good companion to infinity war yeah it's coming at the end of this because thanos could go
05:34see yeah you will see this movie and then you would see thanos and you'd be like he was right
05:41humans just breeding and they the thing is humans just make babies and they
05:46fuck a lot and they have kids they talk about how beautiful it is until the baby gets there
05:50and this it is horrible they make they make parenthood at least early parenthood or like
05:56having babies in the early stage of their life look horrible this is like a horror movie okay and the
06:03thing is normally i i can say i don't like that some because even watching a lot of this i
06:07was like well
06:08man if you just focus on the negative and you do make it look bad even though everything they
06:12showed in there i was like this is all very realistic as it's about as realistic as any one
06:17of these movies i've seen but they just focus on that it just as it goes along you start to
06:22realize
06:23well but this is her life yeah no you know what and there's certain things that are specific to it
06:29which that's which mitigate why it's focused on this it's just it maybe i'm exaggerating here
06:35maybe the movie's exaggerating but it really does make parenting look like a horror movie and
06:41there's times it's tough like well and i know but what it does is like it's like it just says
06:46that when you have when you have kids it's just it everything just stops and you have this little
06:55creature that is just sucking your life away literally no literally yes just sucking like one nipple
07:02at a time man and they say you know this kid this thing is just sucking your life away and
07:08you know
07:09and i thought i was thinking about like i wonder if i want to have kids and i thought like
07:13you know
07:14if the answer is no i'm just gonna take my wife to go see this man yeah it's really a
07:17deterrent do
07:18you want this because they even show that the mother has it harder than the dad well in this particular
07:25situation that's part of the situation but don't tell her that yeah yeah no no no if you want to
07:30scare
07:30your wife off sure but your wife is a smart woman she can recognize that like well these two these
07:37people are too poor to have this many kids like yeah yeah y'all have outbreeded yourselves and you
07:44don't you financially can't keep up and um she's got a situation going where it takes you a while to
07:51realize that pops ain't really helping out all that much no no really yeah he's talking he's talking
07:58a game but he ain't actually doing shit yeah it's it's a it's a rough situation at the end they
08:03don't need these many kids you know this is a i mean even the the like the hardest conservative like
08:09you you need an abortion yeah it's not that you have this creature sucking the life out of you
08:15you have this creature plus these other two creatures one who has special needs or some kind
08:21of behavior issue so that that already throws a multiplier into the mix is yeah this family
08:26then they just lost the lottery man like i said it's uh it's one thing to have that many kids
08:33and you can't afford them but one kid is this special needs and he's just screaming the whole
08:38time the middle girl she just you could you don't know yet she just requires so you know she's probably
08:43gonna murder somebody someday she probably hope it's one of them kids yeah yeah she's one of your
08:48brothers and sisters she's just a smart ass at a young age and that baby man that even that baby
08:53that baby when that baby because that baby got that baby it has it has the most demonic cry
08:58to drive you insane it's like you know a baby like
09:05and it's just when you look at this yeah man it's just it was you can tell he was the
09:10youngest
09:10yeah yeah oh my god i'm a little that was that was me
09:18your sister's of you with a pillow i swear to god my kids were perfect and they still did that
09:24okay
09:25well then i just don't know i was i was always told that i was an angel
09:30you were told that yeah your mom has selective memory i told when i cried i said
09:35a chorus of angels
09:43but yeah man it's it's it's uh you know one of the things that this movie does well you hear
09:49us
09:49talk about parenting here and whether you know this is something that's brought on her or not they do
09:54they get that point across that parenting whether it's in general or for them it's hard
09:59and particularly for her it's especially hard uh when i say that this is like a horror movie it
10:08charlie's there on looks like something out of a horror movie you know we're looking at that picture
10:13right now where she's all she's she's all she's she's puffy she's pale she's always circles on their
10:20eyes all those dark circles yeah man she's always sweating because she's always carrying something
10:24she's like halfway to her monster days oh oh yeah man that's that's what it is like what you're
10:29looking at right there it's that last stage before you come back from the dead start eating people
10:34and you know it's uh because she's always carrying something she's either carrying a child
10:38or something to carry a child in right you know or something that's for a child
10:44and i mean you look at her body man like even her body right there
10:48like like she has all that body weight on there uh and i want to say that because kudos to
10:56the
10:57to the makeup department who made her look like this first of all it's one thing for her to gain
11:01all the weight which which she did man she gained a lot of weight for this and you can see
11:07she got
11:07like the she ain't got a muffin top she got the whole bakery down there you know she she's that's
11:12her
11:12with the with the body weight yeah but the makeup department made her look like that in the face man
11:17they when you to see her exhaustion makes you exhausted to look at her and in and also you
11:24know that's the other thing about her man thing you know i i got to admire her dedication she's
11:31trying to get that oscar right there she won the people like well ain't no men in the challenge
11:35roles out there so i got to get fat try to go for that oscar yeah because you know that's
11:38what
11:38she did if you worked for her last time yeah it did yeah when you saw her in uh she
11:44was
11:45unrecognizable a monster man uh and you know you see it right here monsters a movie where it was a
11:51woman who they thought had some mental issues she's convicted for murder it was on death row right
11:55yeah charlie sterron while this one was done charlie sterron was getting an award you know so but
12:01charlie sterron you that's the funny thing about it man she's so dedicated it's almost like charlie
12:05staring is so gorgeous she has to take a vacation from it right it's hard being this
12:12you just get tired of just being beautiful yeah somebody give me a fat roll
12:18that's the thing man like looking at the pictures of her looking at this trailer uh it not only looks
12:22like her her body is breaking down like her spirit just looks like it's in the dumps it it is
12:28one of
12:28these things where the longer it goes on you start to realize like just from how hard she's working
12:33and the sleep deprivation that she's in a serious postpartum depression oh and that's another thing
12:38about it man we're talking about hate to keep hammering home that hard that horror movie theme
12:42but it did you feel scared for that baby at the beginning of this movie uh because i didn't know
12:49what this movie was about so with the way she was like losing it and going crazy i mean because
12:53she was
12:54it was very intense and i thought she's gonna pull an atomic blonde and just snap that baby's neck
12:59i guess what i can tell you is just you know having gone through it i knew it wasn't going
13:03to
13:03get to that point i was never scared of that okay because it scared the fuck out of me
13:08i was like i'd be glad when tully get here take this baby away from this woman i tell you
13:12one thing
13:13man i mean they showed it in that clip that scene where she has the bag of breast milk and
13:17it falls
13:17over and spills i heard you in the trailer say yeah just every time i see that i'm just like
13:21oh my god no
13:23because that that's that that's that's such a thing that you fear so much because that stuff is
13:28worth its weight in gold really yes because i'm scared about this baby's neck being snapped and
13:34martin's worried about this milk ray
13:41but because it takes a while to get it and it's the only thing that'll keep the child quiet this
13:46is
13:46incredible man i'm glad see this is why i really want to go see this movie because i knew that
13:50i would
13:50just be ignorant coming into it and you being a parent you have seen all the other side of that
13:54so i thought it was cool to see how both our perception would be because when you're like oh
13:58man i've seen this before the scariest thing is that bag of milk spilling i'm like the scariest
14:03thing to me is this woman losing her shit in the middle of a parking lot and i'm thinking she's
14:08gonna kill her kids because that's what i thought i mean no her doing that means she won't kill her
14:11kids really yeah okay and the thing is looking at it all to me the baby wasn't even the biggest
14:18problem
14:18well again it was them right i mean the just the probably yeah yeah it's it's it's so little help
14:24from the dad and ron livingston plays the dad livingston plays the dad and the thing is you don't
14:30at first it takes you a while to realize how much he's not helping out it's not until later when
14:35when
14:35something happens and he's like man i can't believe she just left the kids by themselves and
14:40the cops like weren't you here yeah what were you doing he's like i was playing gears
14:45i saw early because ron livingston he's a he's a guy they have some very good actors in here ron
14:52livingston and the writing is good enough to where all of this seems real so none of these people are
14:56true villains no no nobody's a villain it's just that but there are moments where i did see it
15:01earlier ron livingston would go to his bedroom he and not only would he play video games he put on
15:05them headphones oh yeah everybody out yeah and i remember thinking like why'd you get your ass down
15:09and help this woman yeah yeah yeah no no but he's so likable yeah and that's all that that's there
15:14before plus i know plenty of guys i know way too many fathers who would do the exact same thing
15:19and
15:19they'll be like me i'm working i got a twitch because whenever i get there like well i'm here
15:28with the kids you've run around with cory doing all this shit i'm like what i was like yeah and
15:31all
15:31these other dads you're talking about they go home and they sit right there in front where they're
15:35crying kids and play video games when tully finally comes in the scene played by mckenzie davis
15:40uh it's it's not only is it a sigh of relief uh because like i said it this woman they
15:48they really get across that this woman needs a break and when you see them finally to because
15:53they're reluctant to take a night nanny at first right yeah because her yeah husband's all like man
15:58your your rich-ass brother always holding his money
16:04because like i saw a hair man i saw mark duplass and i thought they were the same
16:07i was like did she marry her brother they do kind of look like yeah yeah they like you put
16:12the beard
16:12on the other guy difference uh no i mean you're like i'm like you man you better you better take
16:17this woman and when she comes in it's a sigh of relief man i feel so much better because
16:22it's not only is this uh that's something they need in their lives but uh mckenzie davis just plays
16:27that role well man you know she she feels so natural because she could come in and play just
16:32like martin said like some little tinkerbell ass hippie uh coming in there and acting like a young
16:3720 or 20 something i think she's she said maybe she was 25 in the movie but she i can't
16:44wait for
16:44mckenzie davis to be a mother because she felt so natural when she came in she you know she picked
16:48up the baby and she cuddled the baby and it felt like a real person who knew about parenting a
16:53new
16:53babies uh you know just like somebody in real life who's kind of wise beyond her years that's
16:58what it is she's a free spirit but she's also knows what to do and doesn't take offense and it's
17:04like
17:04hey i'm here to help you but i know what you need let me do this yeah yeah like man
17:09everybody wants
17:10a person like that in their life everybody need a tully yeah man it's and like that's a great way
17:16of
17:16putting it wise beyond her years and mckenzie davis captures that well you seem like a great mom even
17:21getting dressed just feels exhausting that's the downside of living on a planet with a short
17:25solar day you're like a book of fun facts for unpopular fourth graders she's like bitch is that
17:30an insult you know i'm watching your baby at night right what the hell you mean by that
17:42and you know what that's been i'm kind of joking around by saying that but it is
17:46it is uh the kind of dialogue where it's uh you know we're in the land of tarantino aaron sorkin
17:53now
17:53you know people who and it's diablo cody diablo cody wrote you know you know this this is the
17:58she's the woman that was known as being the stripper who made her transition to being a screenwriter
18:02okay and wrote all these movies uh uh uh you know i forgot she wrote something about vampires or
18:09demons or something uh jennifer's body is the way it is oh the megan fox the megan fox movie yeah
18:15but
18:16juno temple i mean i'm not god damn it i think of the movie you know she wrote i know
18:20diablo cody
18:21diablo cody man she's she's uh she's a great writer i actually love the way she wrote people in this
18:26movie again it felt so natural but her dialogue doesn't feel so natural all the time it's at least
18:32to me because they just like you heard right there sure this maybe these were people in a different
18:36setting but uh you know as uh as martin was saying this isn't you know this is kind of a
18:40broke ass
18:41family you know they kind of they kind of just below middle class maybe yeah they're lower middle
18:46class whoever wrote this they really didn't change up their their mindset or the way they speak for
18:50per character so it just sounds like the same person talking to the same person and i think that's
18:54what it is not that you these people don't talk like that nobody in real life really talks that way
18:58it just takes you back to like okay this is movie talk sure and it's not really characteristic of you
19:04know one or two characters like all these characters kind of talk this well they also seem
19:08like like they're the kind of people who are smarter you know what as you think of as smarter than
19:13what
19:14their station is yeah like they they should have been in a higher bracket but somehow things just
19:19haven't worked out that way you know this is this is a better movie than uh i thought it was
19:23going to
19:23be uh you know uh mainly because charlie's there on man charlie when i say charlie's there
19:29dedicates herself to these roles i mean it that's why i criticize her in atomic blonde sure because
19:35in atomic blonde she was cardboard man yeah she had no emotion at all and you know and i realize
19:43now i felt a little bad like i'm you know i feel like i'm being just critical to be an
19:46asshole but i realize now like nah man you know this this is the charlie's there on why i criticize
19:50her in that movie because she's so great in this i mean she's great at being just tormented too
19:55you know yeah well atomic blonde i didn't blame her in as much as it seemed like she
20:00like either director or her just thought this is the take i'll go with with this character who's
20:05a spy and an assassin yeah yeah it seems kind of a quadruple spy yeah yeah yeah plus plus really
20:11when you look at atomic blonde as a whole the whole story it's kind of dumb why why are you
20:15gonna put a lot of energy into that all your energy needs to go into the fighting yeah yeah she's
20:20almost
20:20like she's like i'm just gonna get my money and then i'm gonna get out and get fat and go
20:24get a
20:24academy award and she you know what she's good in this man and also i have to say that this
20:28movie
20:28does a good job at taking some themes man fresh presence a fresh presentation on themes that we
20:34always see yeah you know like the magical mystical person that comes in and changes the family for the
20:39better you know capturing that old youthful feeling that you gave up on this person is helping you get
20:44it back finding that new spark and old things you know these are things that you see in a hollywood
20:49run-of-the-mill family comedy sometimes and this is this is actually the one where it'd be like the
20:54white suburban family with the black guy that comes in and helps them out yeah you know but here they
21:04took they they're able this but this is not a family there's a rated r somewhat rated r what's
21:09happening here yeah oh i guess language there's language and yeah there's no there's no no violence and
21:15in this scariest shit the beginning when she's going through her bullshit but you know this uh
21:19this is uh no this is this this is a it's brutally honest too i just thought that you know
21:25this being
21:25a rated r dramedy that is brutally honest i thought that that was something where it sets it apart from
21:32something else where these themes would have been old uh i will say though that i don't if there's
21:39anything i don't like about this movie it's kind of the message that you get at the end because
21:44this is a movie where they tell you uh they don't even give you your 20s they tell you about
21:4930.
21:50yeah it's done right like 30s were the best years of my life and i'm still having a great time
21:54but
21:54they you know they say about 30. you don't have kids but you know after looking at this movie i
22:00don't
22:00want to you know i want to live my life because really i looked at this and it's like this
22:04is a movie
22:05where it it is it it's uh it's a message of defeat really you know what i'm saying no no
22:12and and you're
22:13right i i don't care for that because yeah having kids in my 30s it's like yeah it's it's a
22:19low time
22:20for me but it's not like that doesn't end and you get to have your life back it no it
22:25really is one of
22:25those movies where it's telling you i don't look i don't know what demographic they aiming for here
22:31but it's telling you that if you have not reached your dreams by the day after 29th
22:38uh your your last day of being 29 your 30th birthday if you have not reached if you have
22:42not reached your dreams i'm telling you because you're are you 30 yet 31 you're 31 no kids right
22:47thank god you're good
22:52if you have not reached your dreams and you have a kid by 30 it's done man just accept defeat
22:59and you know lead a boring life and just accept that and pass your dreams off to these kids that
23:05are coming up that you know and that's what it feels like it's telling me and i you know i
23:10just
23:10thought like that i don't think this movie is really it's telling you something beautiful in
23:13that yeah you know there's there's joy in everything if you really take time to look at it and you
23:18and uh
23:19you know even in the roughest situation okay that's cool but it is telling you like it's still though
23:24like you know what just suck it up and smile all right so it seems like it's a lesson in
23:28like you
23:28know having kids and everything but also with people dealing with depression like martin said
23:32somebody with a postpartum depression it's i thought that was going to be it but that wasn't
23:37it so much yeah you see this this so there's something that happens that we can't talk about
23:42yeah you know and and that that i think really targets the the depression actually yeah yeah that
23:48is that there is something in there that says she does have postpartum depression you know you know
23:52it's uh and i guess in a way that's cool that they were not able to like make it a
23:57big deal to the
23:58whole movie mm-hmm you know this melodrama about this woman who can't deal with having kids you
24:02know it wasn't that they did a creative way of putting that depression out there uh which you
24:06know it's it for me it works it it they do some shit in the movie let me just say
24:10they do some
24:11shit in the movie that it's it's it's that it's that's it's played out but they managed to do
24:17something here and they're able to like actually you know come in and and and have you relate to her
24:23depression in a way that if i seen in any other movie didn't handle it well i'd be like oh
24:27really
24:28we're doing this again i i saw the the movie with a woman who had gone through a serious postpartum
24:33depression so she she was all over this she was she was really and she was in love with it
24:37and how
24:38they handled once all this came together i walked out feeling very satisfied with this film man i i
24:43enjoyed this a lot i uh i give this a full price i uh i i enjoyed it a lot
24:48for all the reasons that we
24:49said it's um and the only reason i would give it a high matinee rather than a full price is
24:55because
24:56of something that happens toward the end that yeah i don't i don't want to go into i i don't
25:01want to
25:01say anything too much about it but it's one of those things where either you like that or you don't
25:08and i was kind of on the i'm not that down with it okay i don't hate it but i
25:14think the way it was
25:14handled was a bit clumsy and telegraphed and it ruined it okay all right then i see what you're
25:20saying i see what you're saying uh but all you dudes out there you want your freedom i highly
25:25recommend this movie you know you don't you don't you want this to be us in five years yeah you
25:31have
25:32that you you have that you have an argument right now i don't know if i want kids your wife
25:35is telling
25:35yeah i do like we gotta have kids tomorrow full price taking a few people here too full price that'll
25:42pay up for all you like
