02:13It's the G-Bag Nation here on 105.3.
02:15The Fan, look at this.
02:16We're coming up on 5 o'clock already.
02:18Okay, we got football's finest coming up at 5.
02:20It's time for a mixed bag with Wolchuk.
02:23And G-Bag of the day, L.A. Live, now less than under an hour away.
02:27Here's Wolchuk.
02:28All right, let's shake it up.
02:29You never know what you're going to get in the mixed bag.
02:30You guys want to start with the footballs, or do you want to go with the basketballs?
02:34Which balls do you want?
02:36Basket.
02:37Basket.
02:38Balls.
02:38All right, let's go to Chris Mannix, SI.com.
02:42He is throwing out that our Dallas Mavericks are going for the gusto here on this GM search.
02:48And it did make me just a little dingly inside.
02:51You got to say, the wish list for Patrick Dumont, the team's governor.
02:55He's aiming high.
02:56Among the names on the list, Oklahoma City Executive Vice President.
03:00And general manager, Sam Presti, best in the game, in my opinion.
03:05Minnesota President of Basketball Operations, Tim Connolly.
03:08And Boston President, Brad Stevens.
03:12Now, Chris B. Haynes was on his podcast saying he does believe one of these names would consider a pivot
03:19from their current job to the Dallas Mavericks.
03:22I can only hope it's Sam Presti, who is from a similar area of one Cooper Flagg.
03:28And maybe all of these guys look at Cooper Flagg and say, hey, this is a dude that I could
03:32really go ahead and build a team around.
03:35Bob Myers, the other guy that, I mean, that makes a lot of sense.
03:38You got Rick Welts, who worked with him at Golden State.
03:41Could he be a guy they lured from out of retirement?
03:44But, man, I do love the names.
03:46And I do love the idea of kind of just swinging for the fences here.
03:49Why not?
03:50Yeah, I mean, I'm sure a lot of people are laughing about this.
03:55Like, how dumb do you think everybody is?
03:58But at the same time, make these people say no.
04:01And there is something about sports where, like, if you're Sam Presti, I don't know why you'd leave OKC, especially
04:07with all the picks in the arsenal you still have.
04:10That's the hardest one to wrap your mind around because they're young.
04:13They still have, like, their future.
04:15They should be competitive for the next decade.
04:19You know why you leave?
04:20To see if you can do it somewhere else.
04:22The challenge, right?
04:23The competitiveness.
04:23Yeah, when you build something like that, the challenge is to try and do it.
04:30Can you do it somewhere else?
04:32Can everything that we've done, everything that we've built, everything that we believe in, could that work in another organization?
04:41And, like, if you're talking about Oklahoma City, let's be honest about the market size, too, and what you're dealing
04:48with.
04:49And you've got billionaire, billionaire, billionaire people.
04:53It's basically rural living in a city.
04:55But I'm just saying, in Dallas, you're dealing with, you went from, like, a Mark Cuban who was worth, say,
05:01$2 billion to an ownership group that's worth $100 billion, something like that?
05:08Yeah.
05:08You know, so to me, when you start to say, you go in there with really an open checkbook, a
05:14credit card, everything.
05:16There's things you could do, like, hey, we need this.
05:19We need this facility, or we need this, or we need that, you know.
05:21So, and that's the challenge to see if you could actually do it again somewhere else.
05:28And you are set up kind of nicely with Cooper Flagg and a guy that you're going to be picking
05:33in, you know, top five, top seven of the draft.
05:36Yeah.
05:37So, you have two young cornerstone pieces that you're about to build around, and you get to be the one
05:42to hand-select who that second guy is going to be.
05:44Right.
05:45So, I guess there are some selling points, but punting on the next decade of OKC seems a little reckless.
05:55He's won a championship there, right?
05:56Yeah, I guess.
05:57Yeah, that's true.
05:58Back to back.
05:58That's the deal that you, you know.
06:02That'd be crazy.
06:02They win the second one, and then he says, thanks, guys.
06:05We'll see you later.
06:06You're on cloud nine.
06:06How can you even do that?
06:08How can you even take a lateral move like that?
06:10That's a good question.
06:11He might be out of contract.
06:12Yeah, contract could be running out.
06:14Maybe the Mavs are willing to offer significantly more money than the Thunder are, but I just
06:18think it signals that it's very hard to keep a championship team together in the NBA, and
06:23you've got there in OKC, you've got picks, but there's really no guarantee that they're
06:28going to be, you know, in the championship picture for the next five years.
06:31The damn bar's already set really high there, too, right?
06:34Yeah.
06:34So, I mean, like, expectations, you know.
06:37The next thing you know, you're winning the championship and you have an off year.
06:41Now you're like, they're coming after you.
06:43The only reason to stay up there is if you love the city.
06:45You know, maybe the wife's family is from there, and your kids are close to their grandparents.
06:50But, I mean, you come for better restaurants and better lifestyle.
06:53How long do we drive?
06:54I used to have to do this because Bennett played games in Oklahoma City.
06:58I think it's like, what, four or five hour drive?
07:00Maybe three and a half.
07:01Yeah.
07:02It's not bad.
07:03Yeah, three and a half.
07:04It's not bad.
07:04It's like 200 miles.
07:05It's like driving to Austin.
07:06I mean, like, if we've got family up there, listen, we're making enough money now, and
07:10this ownership group's got a really nice plane.
07:12I'll send the plane up there to get you guys, and we'll bring you guys on back.
07:17It's probably a long shot, but, hey, you know, kick the tires on it.
07:20Make them say no to your point here.
07:21I think Bob Myers is interesting.
07:23Yeah, and that's what Stein says.
07:24That's the whispers he keeps hearing.
07:25Bob Myers might be the most likely candidate, and him and the Rick Welts connection.
07:29But Bob Myers has got a really good job.
07:32Okay, you talk about not leaving a job or wanting to leave a job.
07:35I think he runs that guy, Harris's Sports Ventures, out there in Washington.
07:40He owns the 76ers.
07:42They have brought him in as a consultant, I know for sure.
07:45Yeah, but I think he was named president.
07:47That's a good, yeah, that's lucrative right there.
07:49You're making some good money.
07:50I think he was elevated.
07:51Like, Harris has these, I think he's got a Premier League soccer team, I should have looked
07:59all this up.
07:59Yeah.
08:00But he's got the commanders.
08:01He's got the 76ers.
08:0476ers?
08:04Yeah, he's president.
08:05He's president of Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment.
08:08There you go.
08:08That's a good deal.
