Secretary Marco Rubio defended U.S. involvement in the Iran war, arguing Tehran seeks nuclear weapons, not peaceful energy. He said Iran rejects global norms like importing fuel and building transparent reactors. His remarks set the stage for Donald Trump’s national address, raising expectations about whether the conflict may soon end.

00:00Many Americans are asking, why did the United States have to attack Iran now?
00:05Well, let me explain.
00:06Iran wants to have nuclear weapons.
00:08Of that, there is zero doubt.
00:10If what they truly wanted, which is what they claim, is nuclear energy,
00:13well, they could have nuclear energy like all the other countries in the world have it.
00:17And that is, you import the fuel and you build reactors above ground.
00:20That's not what Iran has done.
00:22They build their reactors and their facilities deep in mountains,
00:26away from the public glare.
00:28And they want to enrich that material.
00:30The same equipment that they could use to enrich material for energy,
00:33they could use to quickly enrich it to weapons grade.
00:37So it is clear that they've been offered every opportunity to have
00:40a nuclear program that allows them to have energy, not weapons.
00:44And every single time they have turned it down.
00:46But why the attack now?
00:48Well, what was Iran trying to do?
00:50Iran was trying to build a conventional shield,
00:53in essence, have so many missiles,
00:55have so many drones that no one could attack them.
00:57And they were well on their way.
00:59We were on the verge of an Iran that had so many missiles and so many drones
01:03that no one could do anything about their nuclear weapons program in the future.
01:07That was an intolerable risk.
01:09Under no circumstances can a country run by radical Shia clerics
01:12with an apocalyptic vision of the future ever possess nuclear weapons.
01:16And under no circumstances can they be allowed to hide and protect that program
01:21and their ambitions behind a shield of missiles and drones that no one can do anything about.
01:27This was our last best chance to eliminate that conventional threat,
01:31that conventional shield that they were trying to build.
01:34And the president made the right decision to wipe it out now.
01:37That is the goal of this operation, to destroy their conventional missiles
01:40and their drone program so they can't hide behind it
01:43and finally have to deal with the world seriously about never, ever having nuclear weapons.
01:49A stunning message from Washington.
01:53Go get your own oil.
01:55That's U.S. President Donald Trump sending a blunt warning to allies,
02:01including the United Kingdom, as the Strait of Hormuz remains locked and global tensions rise.
02:09In a fiery post, Trump lashed out at countries that stayed out of the war on Iran,
02:15saying if they want oil, they have two options, buy it from the United States
02:21or go to the Strait of Hormuz and take it themselves.
02:25The message didn't stop there.
02:27Trump made it clear America may not step in anymore,
02:32telling allies it's time to learn how to fight for themselves,
02:36a major shift in U.S. global posture.
02:40At the center of it all, the Strait of Hormuz,
02:43a narrow waterway, but one that carries nearly a fifth of the world's oil.
02:48And right now, Iran holds the leverage,
02:51disrupting shipping, driving up prices, shaking global markets.
02:56Trump has also issued warnings.
02:59If a deal is not reached soon, the U.S. could escalate,
03:03targeting Iran's oil infrastructure, including Karg Island.
03:08Even desalination plants, now part of the threat calculus.
03:12But behind the tough talk, a different plan is emerging.
03:16Reports suggest Trump is ready to end the war,
03:20even if Hormuz remains closed,
03:23focusing instead on weakening Iran and shifting pressure to diplomacy.
03:28Tehran, meanwhile, stands firm,
03:31saying its strikes are aimed only at aggressors
03:34and defending its actions as a response to foreign attacks.
03:39The message?
03:40Iran will not back down easily.
03:43A war nearing a turning point,
03:45allies under pressure,
03:47and a global oil route still in limbo.
03:50Trump's message is clear.
03:52This time, everyone may be on their own.
