00:00One train of thought is, you don't mess with the baseball gods.
00:03The dude's in a zone, let him go 0-5 and then sit him down, right?
00:08But why would you sit down your hottest hitter?
00:10The flip side is, this is a guy that's going to have to be sat down
00:15because he has not played a full season in a very long time.
00:19And you know he's going to get hurt at some point this year
00:21because that's what he does.
00:23So I'm wondering for you, Mr. Yankee,
00:25are you of the thought,
00:27man, this is not the time to sit Giancarlo Stanton?
00:31Or you of the thought, hey, five games, double-digit hits,
00:36this is a perfect time to sit Giancarlo Stanton?
00:39Yeah, well, it's certainly not a perfect time.
00:41I think you understand that Giancarlo's not going to play every day.
00:43We knew that going in.
00:44And I don't expect them to buck the trend every time he's hot.
00:48You need to give him some days off.
00:50I think that's understood by most Yankee fans.
00:53I'm sure there are many Yankee fans today who are upset.
00:54Can I interrupt you for a second?
00:55They're off tomorrow.
00:56They're off tomorrow.
00:57Then they come back home Friday for the home opener against the Marlins, right?
01:02So if you have a built-in off day, so he gets his rest,
01:06why would you sit the hottest hitter in baseball?
01:10Because he's Giancarlo Stanton, and we all expect him to get healthy,
01:12and this is the plan.
01:13I mean, I'm not totally disagreeing with you.
01:15You could put him in there.
01:17I don't think it's anything to get upset about.
01:18We understood going in.
01:20This isn't like an everyday player.
01:22It's not Ben Rice or it's not Jazz.
01:24If Jazz was on fire and suddenly Jazz gets a day off, you're like, what the hell are you doing?
01:28You knew, we all knew this would be the plan going in.
01:32He wouldn't play six games in a row.
01:33He probably wouldn't have, you know, ten games in a row.
01:36They're going to look for days to get him off his feet.
01:37They're going to look to get other guys in.
01:39I would think we understood this is the plan, and even though he's performing,
01:44they're going to stick to the plan they have with Giancarlo because they need him to perform long term all
01:49season long.
01:49And having said that, I don't know if you've seen him, he looks healthier than ever.
01:54That's the other aspect of it.
01:55He looks good.
01:56I'm not making much of it.
01:57But if you watch the game.
01:59I thought he looked good last year physically too, to be honest.
02:01Not running like this.
02:02Have you seen him on the basis?
02:03No, not running.
02:03I mean, like physique-wise.
02:05Physique-wise, absolutely.
02:06He's always looked great.
02:07He's always looked great, and he's toned it down a little bit the last couple years.
02:09He's lost some weight and lost some muscle mass, should I say, rather.
02:12But no, watching him play early on this season, and I don't know what to make of it yet
02:17because I don't even know if I like it because I'm concerned he's going to get out.
02:19I don't want him digging out for a double.
02:21But, yeah, I mean, you saw it in the first series.
02:24He scored from second on a base hit that I never even thought he would attempt going home on.
02:29And he scored standing up.
02:31Last night, or two nights ago, he tries to get thrown out at second base.
02:34But he attempts to leg out a double on a pop-up.
02:36Right.
02:37And then yesterday, he takes the extra base on a ball that barely gets away from Kyle Raleigh.
02:42He never even makes those plays.
02:44Never attempts them.
02:45Well, you're right.
02:46So, I mean, I think he's feeling good.
02:48I think he's feeling healthy.
02:49He's running a hell of a lot better.
02:51And he's swinging the bat as well as we have seen him.
02:54Like I said it last year, from the second half when he came back last year,
02:58and now it's continued on through these five games, albeit five games.
03:01We have seen more consistent at-bats, consistently good at-bats,
03:04without the flailing swings and without the awful at-bats where you're like,
03:07good God, what is Stanton even doing?
03:09We haven't seen those at-bats all that much over his last 100 games or so.
03:13Like, he has really been in a really good spot.
03:15You know, he looks great.
03:16Which is why I'm thinking with an off day tomorrow, and I'm not saying that he's making a terrible decision,
03:23but, you know, he's hotter than a pistol right now.
03:27And I think with a guaranteed day off tomorrow anyway, and then a weaker Marlins team that's coming into town,
03:33although I know the Marlins started off 3-0 this year, I would say play the hot hand.
03:37Like, he's not playing the field, right?
03:39He's just DH-ing.
03:40Just DH-ing.
03:40And I would say, again, I'm not as big a die-hard Yankee fan as you are,
03:45but I don't think you mess around with it, man.
