El secretario de Estado de EE. UU., Marco Rubio, afirmó que Estados Unidos se está replanteando la conveniencia de seguir siendo miembro de la OTAN.
En una entrevista televisada en Fox News el martes por la noche, Rubio afirmó que si EE. UU. no puede utilizar las «bases de la OTAN para defender los intereses de Estados Unidos, entonces la OTAN es una calle de sentido único».
El presidente Donald Trump ha declarado que está considerando seriamente la posibilidad de retirar a EE. UU. de la OTAN, intensificando sus críticas a los aliados europeos y poniendo de manifiesto una brecha cada vez mayor en la alianza transatlántica en torno a la guerra de Estados Unidos junto a Israel contra Irán.
