00:00AI Just Ended Anonymity Online
00:04LLMs can link anonymous accounts back to their users' real identity.
00:08Here's how it happened.
00:10Researchers deployed AI agents to analyze online posts and find info connected to the user.
00:15The way they write, where else they're registered, their connections to other users.
00:19Basically, anything they can get their hands on.
00:22The agents were able to unmask roughly 60% of the anonymous accounts they were given.
00:26That's more effective than any other method used before LLMs.
00:30To be fair, being anonymous online was never bulletproof to begin with.
00:35However, the amount of work and hours that, let's say,
00:38authoritarian regimes would have to invest manually to find out your identity are substantial.
00:44But if they start using AI agents, that definitely changes.
00:49The researchers say their findings have significant implications for online privacy.
00:53In the wrong hands, this new detective could put everyone at risk.
00:57So, what can you do to try and protect your identity online?
01:02Avoiding sharing your location, personal pictures, or profession can help.
01:06Also, deleting older posts every now and then can make a difference.
