00:00It is increasingly clear that as the world continues down this volatile path,
00:05our long-term national interest requires closer partnership with our allies in Europe
00:12and with the European Union.
00:15Now we have made progress on this front, on agriculture, electricity, emissions trading and more.
00:24But as the Chancellor has rightly pointed out, Brexit did deep damage to our economy
00:30and the opportunities to strengthen our security and cut the cost of living are simply too big to ignore.
00:39Firstly, NATO is the single most effective military alliance the world has ever seen
00:44and it has kept us safe for many decades and we are fully committed to NATO.
00:51I'm not going to choose because I think it's in our interest to have a strong relationship with the US
00:56and with Europe
00:57but I do think that when it comes to defence and security, energy, emissions and the economy,
01:03we need a stronger relationship with Europe.
01:05I actually think that will help strengthen our relationship with the US
01:10because successive presidents have said that Europe needs to do more on their defence and security.
01:16I've long argued that with European colleagues that we should be doing more.
