00:07Thank you. And now I'd like you to help me welcome a very special guest, Cliff Richard.
00:25Thank you. Thank you very much. It's a nice welcome.
00:28Yeah, it's nice to have you on the show, because I know you've been in Australia for about two months,
00:32haven't you?
00:32Yeah, it was actually seven weeks. It was fabulous all the way, but it's probably a lot.
00:36It's too long to be away from Britain, isn't it?
00:39Well, it's nice to be back for Christmas, because that last song I sung talked about the kind of very
00:43simple beginning of it all,
00:45the kind of when Jesus Christ came to us. But your song is almost the other end.
00:49It's a very kind of almost a cynical look at Christmas.
00:52Well, it is really. I always feel that perhaps the world thinks that we as Christians have got a sort
00:55of rosy, glowing look about everything.
00:58You know, that we don't quite understand what's happening.
01:00And I always feel that one of the things about my faith is that I've been able to rationalize what
01:04I believe.
01:05And so that I have to be aware that, of course, Christmas is a materialistic time of the year for
01:10a lot of people.
01:11I mean, a lot of money passing hands.
01:12I mean, the thing is, of course, I mean, I like sending cards.
01:15I've got to buy them, so someone's got to make them.
01:17So there's a certain aspect that has to be there.
01:19But the song is a Larry Norman song.
01:22He's just saying that, really, if we emphasize that area, we forget the essence that you're singing about,
01:27the root beginnings and what Christmas is really about.
01:30I sometimes wonder how we got from what it was all about at the beginning
01:34to the stage where we've kept all the trimmings but lost the heart because there's nothing wrong.
01:37I think I love having a Christmas tree and I love all the Christmas things and the giving of gifts
01:41and getting together with your family.
01:42But it seems a shame that we lose the heart of the gospel at the expense of that.
01:47I think we forget that as much as we believe there's a God,
01:51we as Christians believe there's also another force at work.
01:53And that force is attempting to erode all the things that are good and spiritual about Christianity.
01:59And I think Satan's doing his job really very well.
02:02And he's kind of removing God from people's lives, not just at Christmas time,
02:06but in general kind of removing God.
02:07And you get people coming up and saying things about our faith that we know are true
02:11and saying, no virgin birth, you didn't do any miracles.
02:14Well, I mean, in the end you end up with a Bible that's just a couple of covers,
02:17nothing inside really counts.
02:19So it is being eroded away a bit, but I think it doesn't bother me so much now.
02:23I think to myself, I know what I believe.
02:25I don't want to talk about it and I want to sing about it.
02:27Well, why don't you do the job that you're so good at and sing Christmas time, Cliff Richard.
02:30Okay.
02:31Okay.
02:42Okay.
02:50Okay.
02:51the calls is coming and the kids are getting greedy

05:16Oh, it's Christmas time
05:46Thank you very much
05:47Thank you very much, Lee
05:48You know, I really enjoy singing songs like Christmas
05:50Christmas time
05:50Particularly at this time of the year
05:51Because it reminds me of what we've made of it
05:53The mess that we've made of Christmas in a way
05:55And so it gives me extra special pleasure
05:57To sing a song that I released a couple of years back
05:58Which does, in fact, talk about
06:00And sing about the Christmas that it ought to be
06:02This has got a little town
06:18Oh, it's Christmas time
06:22Oh, it's a town of Evelyn
06:36Oh, it's a town of Evelyn
06:43Oh, it's a town of Evelyn
07:05Oh, it's a town of Evelyn
07:08Oh, it's a town of Evelyn
07:08Oh, it's a town of Evelyn
07:26Oh, it's a town of Evelyn
07:58Oh, it's a town of Evelyn
08:03Oh, it's a town of Evelyn
08:06Oh, it's a town of Evelyn
