00:23happened next can I get a high five oh yeah today Lee Juggernaut is playing around in
00:32Murthier with Kate and Wayne who he helped buy a property two years ago you're the star call me
00:43the new Tiger Woods yeah that's it yeah while Laura Hamilton is heading to the Tarnigaran
00:48region of central France to catch up with Keith and Neil two friends who she enjoyed house hunting
00:53with nearly three years ago we're so familiar with Mercier's golden beaches but check out these
01:20insane vistas just an hour's drive away from the coast plus riding one of these bad boys is so much
01:28fun with great variety and excellent value for money it's no wonder Kate and Wayne chose this part of
01:33Spain to find their dream holiday home and guess what I found the perfect place for them the region
01:41of Murthier which has a population of around one and a half million has its own international airport
01:46which takes just under three hours to fly to from the UK it's more than 150 miles of coastline make
01:53it popular with water sports enthusiasts along with golfers hikers and lovers of the outdoor lifestyle
01:59not to mention a large and growing British expat community attracted by the affordable property prices
02:04in the region it was back in 2022 when train driver Wayne and train manager Kate asked us to find
02:12them a holiday home in Murthier for their maximum budget of 90,000 pounds he's my soul mate cast my
02:19best that she always has been yeah and I always say I thought we said it she's me in a
02:23skirt even though
02:25I don't wear skirts and I first met them on playa de la iguericas to get an idea of what
02:31sort of
02:31property they were looking for tell me about the dream that you have life in Spain what does that entail
02:37for
02:37well we like we like to walk we are outside we like to play golf tell me about this dream
02:44proxy
02:44what do you both have in mind the biggie is outside space outside space we don't want to see view
02:50just
02:50a bit more inland so we can come to these places are you both open to be doing a bit
02:54of work yeah yeah
02:56because yeah yeah yeah if it's the right prop not really like big construct we don't nothing we don't
03:02nothing like that my first place was in the town in Pinard de Campo Verde where Wayne and Kate had
03:07been many times and were keen to buy a property in and we got off to a great start with
03:12his two
03:12bedroom bungalow very nice lovely really good amazing I really like this love the art of the open plan
03:19kitchen we love open plan yeah we do topped off by the great solarium with sea views amazing I like
03:26it
03:26ticking more boxes than we asked for you really are yeah so our house hunt kicked off with a strong
03:32contender though I came back down to work with a bump at property number two this two-bedroom semi
03:38detached villa because even though they like lots of things about it it's really the nice space it's
03:43been doing it really well layout wise what do you think nice yeah you go it flows it's the flow
03:48around
03:48the big wall opposite blocks my chances of it being a contender it's nice you don't like my nice
03:56feature wall no no no at this point I thought I needed to change things up a bit so we
04:02left Pinard
04:03the Campo Verde and headed to Fathina about 20 minutes drive away I'm giving you a new town it's
04:09really nice it's got that nice villagey vibe that feel yeah that we like I was really pleased Wayne and
04:16Kate liked the town so much as I'd found them what I thought was a great property there this
04:20three-bedroom villa and they seem to agree with me really like it yeah all this space look at all
04:28this out you can do with it three bedrooms we never thought you could forget three bed in our budget
04:33at all I can't believe you I just want to get in there you do don't you get in their
04:39excitement
04:39continued once we got inside oh god that's amazing I really like it yeah I do we like the
04:46output space you know that yeah we love the kids the cake can be cooking there and still talk that
04:52is
04:54lovely I'll really like that yeah really good that's nice yeah fantastic it's you guys been
04:59here yeah yeah definitely we can see your singer yeah and the terrace didn't disappoint so here you've
05:06got the solarium as well that's like yeah that we see yeah brilliant very nice the views gorgeous
05:12neither did the upstairs bedroom nice hit the nail on the head you can't just get anything better than
05:19this is it's perfect Kate and Wayne seemed smitten with his villa and I let them look at the rest

05:26their own nice kitchen oh the kitchen yeah that's hob that's good yeah it's nice space ain't it it is
05:31really good yeah it's a good size oh this is nice yeah I bet it'd fit in here again wouldn't

05:37before getting a fantastic final verdict absolutely love it spot-on absolutely this is it this is it
05:45nothing it is literally what you guys are looking for and more and more number one's gone it's gone
05:51so it's feeling good as we headed out of sathina to check out our next property this bungalow close to
05:57the beach in Los Alcatraz first impressions yeah don't know and things didn't get much better from
06:07there didn't flow right for us at all this one I feel like I took all your Christmas presents away
06:12yeah as soon as you walked up yeah yeah yeah just not right not right for us so I knew
06:18I had to pull
06:19out all the stops with my fifth and final property this three-bedroom villa back in Pinar de Campo Verde
06:24priced a bit over budget though I'd been told it was open to negotiation lovely it's great area
06:31nice surroundings sea view from the pool and sea view perfect location very nice but the inside
06:36didn't go down so well does feel quite dark yeah and obviously it's not open plan not open plan no
06:45no leaving me a bit unsure where I stood with this one how was the tour it grew on us
06:51all the way
06:51through didn't it yeah yeah dude we have a very strong contender in Safina are you now saying you're
06:59going to consider this one as a potential yeah yeah yeah it's between the two and the next day it
07:05was the villa in Safina that won out it's on the market for just under 80,000 pounds what would
07:12you
07:13like to offer 75 and a half thousand the fact that we've got to buy absolutely everything to be in
07:20the shell because it hasn't got a thing I put the offer into the agent and then all we could
07:25do was
07:26wait how are you feeling about that yeah yeah butterflies butterflies I don't get butterflies and
07:33I've got butterflies Liz okay great I'll run that by Kate and Wayne and we'll get back to you all

09:43today I'm in Tathina in Eastern Spain with Kate and Wayne two years ago I helped them find a three
09:49bedroom villa and now I can't wait to find out what they've done to it and learn more about how
09:54having
09:54a holiday home here has changed their lives a bit different do you think I mean first of all
10:01I remember the house was yellow and white yeah now grey and white the colour ties in really really
10:07nicely with the property did you do that yourselves yeah we did my arms is like Popeye when I finished
10:15yeah I remember there was the driveway here yeah all the gravel that's gone we've had it all concreted
10:24and astroturf yeah I can see why you've built the wall because it's your own private little haven isn't
10:32it it really is no it's a nice touch I mean the walls built yeah it was great when we
10:37first discovered
10:38the property yeah but this is a classic case of you guys actually really putting your stamp on it
10:43totally exactly yeah I'm loving yeah this there's changes inside too do you want to come and have a
10:49look yes because last time that was a shell it was a shell come on it was let's have a
10:53look the door's
10:53different yeah new front door as well to go with the grey right come on in come on in like
10:59see what
11:00you think inside complete transformation there's nothing in here was there I love that you've kept
11:09it light and bright it feels homely in here yeah it is second time we open that door and we're
11:17back
11:17home we're back all the furniture that's in here is that sourced locally all here yeah yeah was that
11:24quite a hard thing to do the very first day we got the keys our friends from England came they
11:28came with
11:28and we sat a cool box cool box suitcase four deck chairs ordered all the sofas and beds the lights
11:36as well yeah these are new as well yeah we fitted these and they're hands as well no yeah how
11:42that's
11:45what you need when you're in oh yeah what I'm in the bedrooms as well because we don't have the
11:48air
11:48con I mean you've done such a great job so far I mean in two years yeah you've done the
11:54outside yeah
11:55that was our main thing yeah how much did all that cost everything out there was about seven
11:59thousand pounds seven thousand pounds and then everything in here we've probably spent about twenty
12:06thousand pound twenty thousand pound so far there's still more to come I know you loved the open plan
12:13kitchen yeah come on in do nothing really in the kitchen it's a holiday home so if we did movie
12:20permanently then yeah we put a new kitchen in but just added a bit more storage yeah fridge fridge
12:27there's me you do a lot of cooking here yeah I love my cooking you help I do well with
12:34the beginning
12:34he chops chops the sits here with a beer yeah that's what he does he sits there she won't let
12:39me do
12:39anything else no and obviously the ingredients that you get out oh yeah the fresh page yeah just fresh
12:45the little markets and things yeah what are the changes have you done down there bedrooms oh that's
12:54our room really yeah we use that that's the palace yeah hey because I mean when we went in there
13:00it was
13:01totally empty empty shell nothing at all I love the beds quite minimal we've just just bed bedside
13:07tables yeah picture on the wall and that one over there yeah this is just their room we've also got
13:13the two fantastic bedrooms down here there is the other room upstairs the big one the big one yeah
13:24oh this was the room that you guys didn't even know you needed no no and we thought it was
13:30going
13:31to be ours yeah what happened to that we just felt that we were closer to the house downstairs and
13:37we
13:37thought this might could brilliant guest room because it's totally self-contained with its own
13:42bathroom fridge and kettle so they can just yeah so when everyone comes to stay so did you have to
13:49do
13:49much to it at all just that en suite that show a try but I think this is just a
13:53fantastic space for
13:55guests and I'd love to be a visitor here fantastic you get your own en suite step out to your
14:00own
14:00private terrace I'd have to share that they have to share that with us do you want to come out
14:05and
14:05have a look it's conditional yes I do come on I do this one I mean I think it's fantastic
14:10they've
14:11turned this empty shell into a real nice home and they seem so happy oh that all-important
14:20sun track it's amazing I mean it's fantastic isn't it but you've got a 180 view practically right yeah we
14:27have yeah it's nice just perfect yeah we love it had some great memories here oh yeah the best one
14:33I think was Richard and Tracy really wasn't it yeah we stood there Tracy got a bit emotional yeah and
14:40started saying one of them all found our place here this is where we want to buy they went home
14:45and the
14:46next day they rang and said we want to buy now can you go and have a look at some
14:51properties for the
14:52famous and properties online like go and look at this one this one this so we're going video for
14:56video chatting around these houses yeah no way we'd been with the estate agent and then the one
15:04morning she rang and said there's one just come back on the market just come back it fell through
15:09okay so we went to that one did the video link video link and then boy video link we did
15:14your job
15:15yeah we did your job for you is it a great property oh it's lovely they've got a swimming pool
15:19a nice
15:19swimming pool so we get to go and share that happy days exactly it's getting warm now isn't it it

15:25getting hot out here do you want to go and have a bit of sangria maybe I think so let's
15:29go make sangria
15:30music to my ears brilliant I'm really impressed with what Kate and Wayne have done to the house
15:36and it's great that their friends have bought a place around the corner I'm looking forward to
15:41finding out more about their new life here in Spain over a glass of sangria make sangria so I've
15:47drunk sangria before I've never made it well we have red wine okay brandy brandy yeah orange juice
15:55and fruit and the brown sugar when in Spain right indeed sangria is a must literally two years ago yeah
16:03we're looking at this property and you secured this for just under seventy eight thousand pounds we did
16:10we did do you know what this property would be on the market for right now there's one just around
16:15the corner the same yeah it's on for about 120 that's quite a significant improvement yeah in
16:21the space of two years yeah from the time that you found it you made the offer with me when
16:26did you get
16:26the keys to the die eight weeks they rang and said it's all gone through and what was that whole
16:31process like because obviously you open the bank account yeah yeah yeah during that whole process was
16:38there anything kind of that you weren't aware of there's lots of additional charges that you have
16:44to kind of take into account there's always it's I think it ranges something between about 12 and 15
16:49percent on top of your purchase by law you would have a Spanish bank the charges for that and the
16:55charges so what is that looking like monthly for a bank account here 10-15 euros a month okay I
17:01advise people to do the homework do the homework right okay we'd looked before we bought we know
17:07and obviously because we were quite under budget with this property yeah would you say what was
17:12no everything was covered I think we still have about 5,000 in the bank after we'd paid our fees
17:16that helped with all the furniture yeah you're gonna put some brandy tell me when because I've got
17:21very go on free-flowing hands you know how often have you managed to come out here and use the
17:25property
17:25oh so much the first two years we were virtually every month yeah oh yeah we're just trying to use
17:32as much as we can and what did the family think the boys everyone back home oh yeah they love
17:37the
17:38fact that we've got it yeah yeah the friends the most because they're like oh when we come to spain
17:42next and it's nice and social you guys can just come out here spend a weekend together spend a few
17:46days together yeah get some great food the beach is a 15 minute drive away it's just a lovely escape

17:53you said yeah what's next for this just pouring oh tasting should we have a try i'm salivating
17:59you're waiting for this to happen then there you go okay you're the guinea pig i'm the guinea pig

22:30two years ago i helped kate and wayne find their dream holiday home here in beautiful mercia
22:35and it's been so nice to come back reconnect see their new life experience this life of their
22:41paradise and also get a game of golfing coming up laura hamilton is in the tane garon region of
22:50france catching up with keith who she helped along with his friend neil find a holiday home some three
22:55years ago the place had been recently renovated but it's going to be so great to see how keith has
23:01made
23:01it is out here we are welcome thank you sir oh it all looks so look neat and perfect
23:26there is nothing quite like a refreshing swim and when you add in views of rolling hills
23:31and charming french villages it's like stepping into a postcard keith had long dreamt of owning
23:38a holiday home surrounded by beautiful countryside so i'm thrilled to say i managed to find him the
23:43perfect place with all the charm he could wish for it's in the region of tan egeron in southwest
23:51france which is about a nine hour drive from calais or an hour from the closest international airport
23:56to lose it's a lush green and agricultural region named after the rivers tan and garon that run through
24:03it popular with lovers of the great outdoors scenic walks and activities on the water are always close
24:09by and the local food and wine provides the perfect end to an active day back in 2021 keith who
24:17had a
24:17lifelong love affair with france was looking for a holiday home that he could retire to in the future
24:22working with a budget of 185 000 pounds good friend neil came along to offer support and we started with
24:29a
24:30chat on the banks of the garon river how beautiful is it beautiful absolutely beautiful so tell me a
24:38bit about your friendship yeah i live in gloucestershire and keith moved into a village just above me
24:44two years ago yeah yeah um and was looking for friends and went on the net and guess who popped
24:49up
24:49oh um and we met up and we just hit it off straight away absolutely absolutely straight
24:54great timing property wise keith was looking for somewhere with that typical french feel
25:00and at least two bedrooms but more importantly he wanted a quintessentially french town or village
25:06within reach and our first ovr went down pretty well how amazing incredible absolutely unbelievable
25:15isn't it just gorgeous there's some pretty good views from around here too you can probably
25:20see through that absolutely wonderful place yeah i love it absolutely gorgeous and once we got to
25:28the property this renovated house in a small village a four minute drive away wow oh my oh no
25:37why oh no why what that reaction gorgeous it is that is so yeah why is it so you kid
25:45there's no work
25:46needed to it's you know it's clean tidy it's but it's clean lines it's got the character it's got the
25:53chimney it's yeah what a start this was proving to be as the compliments kept flowing once we got inside
26:01beautiful absolutely stunned really i can tell by the huge smile on your face yeah i'm blown away it's just
26:09so me i absolutely love it i love the the black work tiles the bedrooms bathrooms and above ground
26:16pool also went down well and once they've seen it all there's nothing you don't like about it at all
26:22when you look at his remit and it's there it's the only thing that's not there and it's not a
26:29negative
26:29is the view but four minutes that way he's got a viewpoint and the awesome religion the views so
26:39it's all here yeah right well we have got four more properties to see and i'm just thinking as you've
26:45loved this so much are you happy for me to just throw some different things into the mix and see
26:51absolutely what it brings yeah why not with that rather solid contender and permission to go wild
26:57i tried something very different for our next not far away in the village of godaville this huge 1970s
27:05house with appalling views while keith loved the space on offer inside it needed too much work for
27:11him and received a stern no up next was the village of lafitte and this four bedroom house that i
27:17was
27:17hoping would get me back on track yeah it's interesting i'm looking forward to looking inside yeah i think
27:22it's very pretty and it's very french we headed inside and it's not floating my boat at all it's not
27:30clean lines it's not light it's not bright yeah it's not floating about okay after an amazing start to
27:40this search things had gone somewhat downhill but i wasn't deterred and had another rather unique option
27:46lined up next in the village of jean sac i sent keith and neil off on their own to view
27:51this wooden
27:51house that had the more minimalist style i knew keith was looking for i am intrigued and it's an
27:57interesting property it's just not me i don't i don't get any of the spaces or any of the layout
28:05i really wanted to finish up with a rival to our first place that renovated house
28:10so i decided it was time to show something more along those lines we headed to gask to view this
28:16house with a large garden that was listed over budget but with some room for negotiation
28:24inside so this room they're currently using as a dining room as you can see yeah it could be used
28:30for a number of things actually i think i'm liking what we've seen so far what is it is it
28:35the character
28:35yeah it's doing it i think yeah yeah and it's got a good feel yeah and we finally had a
28:41second
28:41contender but the next morning keith had decided it was our first place the renovated house that had
28:48won out and he wanted to make an offer it was on the market for just under 170 000 pounds
28:54so i'm thinking
28:56can we go 162 okay how did you come up with that figure i'm just trying to think there are
29:02a few things
29:03i'd really like to do with that property so it is the french dream but you'd like to improve it

29:09little bit and that's how you've come up with the offer so 162 000 pounds i made the call and

31:44today i'm in tarn egaron a region of france filled with beautiful villages like
31:49alviar where nearly three years ago i helped keith with the support of his friend neil find the
31:54perfect holiday home it was ready to go and had a combination of french character and modern clean
32:00lines keith was looking for and i can't wait to see what he's done with the place

32:14is it as you remember well it is as i remember but there are some additions aren't there in the
32:19garden
32:20i've yes plant is there i've spotted i don't recall those being there absolutely right yeah and these
32:27are new too absolutely yeah we've uh changed the color of the shutters yeah and created the
32:33seating area really down by the pool it's quite a large plot really to have to maintain how do you
32:40manage that well a friend of a friend of a friend now comes and does this for me so which
32:45is great
32:46actually and it's quite a comfort so if i'm not here i know that you know it's at least being
32:50looked after and regularly you know kept yeah and he's not letting the neighborhood done with three
32:54foot grass no no it looks it looks perfect then what are the neighbors like they're absolutely lovely
33:00all of my neighbors are french so it does make me speak some of the language and how is that
33:06going
33:06it's improving yeah and it's lovely as i say and they're really welcoming i remember it being pretty
33:19done actually inside yes bits of it are still but a lot of it isn't okay there's some stories to
33:28be told

38:42you know you go off and you try and find all the right little bits and pieces but paint and

38:46sorts of things do seem to be a little bit more expensive here but i was advised quite early on

38:53make sure i purchased them locally because they are actually manufactured and made slightly differently
38:58to suit this climate etc so it was important and i quite like to support the local community as well
39:03so have you found it quite easy to integrate with the community i mean to be fair as i say

39:08have been really really friendly and so you know whilst there is still a little bit of a communication
39:12barrier it's not massive but um yeah i've been starting to get a network of friends which was lovely
39:18um on the three occasions that i've been out here i've been out to three different restaurants because
39:25his friends know all the ones to go to so yeah it's really really lovely with this flying you've got

43:36say i would say accessibility is key whether that be by car by train you know flying whatever so and
43:44and i can do all of that here yesterday i met some guys who had actually come down from london

43:50the station's 15 minutes from here and that's a beautiful journey as well yeah yeah might be a silly
43:56question but do you have any regrets whatsoever absolutely not just that i should have done it
