00:00And in other topics, the culmination of six years of political organizing work in urban peripheries,
00:05Brazil's Landless Rural Workers Movement's first National Solidarity Hands program, has come to a close.
00:12Our correspondent Brian Meir has more.
00:16Over three days in Recife, Pernambuco, around a thousand delegates from the Landless Rural Workers Movement, or MST,
00:23from across Brazil met to debate and plan their urban political organizing work through a national project
00:29which started in 2020, called Solidarity Hands.
00:35During the COVID-19 pandemic, we organized Solidarity Kittens, and this turned into a movement called Solidarity Hands.
00:44Hands that welcome and hands of fed people during the pandemic.
00:49The act of solidarity food donations from small farmers to workers on the urban peripheries
00:55opened up lines of communications that continue to this day
00:58and have led people from these segments to work together ever since,
01:01fighting for rights and developing projects together to improve their way of life.
01:06I am going to follow the advice of the great educator, Paulo Freire.
01:11Work together to organize the people.
01:14If this is the only advice you take, this is enough for you to live these three days and counter
01:22successfully.
01:23Throughout the three days of debates and planning activities,
01:27political music and theater pieces inspired by liberation theology,
01:30which the MST refers to as mystics, were interspersed in the program,
01:35and cultural activities were held at night for people to have space to socialize with their new friends and allies.
01:43We will, in fact, solve fascist problems through lots of struggle, lots of problem organizing,
01:50with several project events by people acting as protagonists who are conscious of their story.
01:56The MST's first-ever National Solidarity Hands Assembly ended on March 30th,
02:02as hundreds of people said goodbye to each other and boarded buses,
02:05some of which would take up to three days to get them back to their homes.
