00:24It's amazing. I feel like I'm in Barbie's dream house.
00:35Today we're up in Vernon, British Columbia with Andrew and his good friend, Marie,
00:39who's stepping in to help while his wife had to shoot up to Alaska.
00:42They're looking for a home that has a little bit of extra room to grow fruits, vegetables,
00:47and of course they want that picturesque view of the lake.
00:51We've set up three homes and I think one of them might just do the trick.

01:12I mean, this is the definition of country living, am I right?
01:15What I want to know, what is it that you really need in this perfect country home?
01:24Michelle and I live in Sioux Lookout and she's going to be retiring.
01:28And so we're looking at moving a little bit closer to her home, which is Alaska.
01:34I met Marie several years ago down in Puerto Vallarta, actually.
01:37I host a sangria Sunday party and some friends brought her along with her husband.
01:43And when we started thinking about moving out here, we remembered Marie actually lived in the area.
01:49So she would be a great person to give us some insight.
01:53Well, I've got some insight into Michelle and her wants and needs for home and a bit of her taste.
02:00I know they love gardening, outdoor spaces, you know, room for a company to come.
02:07They like to entertain.
02:09My advice would be to try to find like a flat driveway, something that's easily accessible in the wintertime because
02:15that can become an issue.
02:17We'd like to have two bedrooms, two baths.
02:20Since we're coming from Northern Ontario, we'd really like to grow some of our own fruit and vegetables out here.
02:26So enough, enough property to do some of that.
02:29Having a great outdoor space would be lovely.
02:32We'll go up to a maximum 700.
02:35But obviously we're hoping to come under that, especially if there has to be some renovations in that as well.
02:44Vernon is located just a few hours northeast of Vancouver in British Columbia's Okanagan region.
02:52Vernon offers a perfect mix of city life with world class nature on its doorstep.
02:57There are more than 100 lakes within a one hour drive.
03:00And not to mention the outstanding beaches, trails and spectacular resorts nearby.
03:05I have a feeling Andrew and Michelle will certainly love the move to this vibrant community.
03:18So for house number one, curb appeal, first impressions, what do we think?
03:23I think it's got great curb appeal for sure.
03:26Wow, coming up the house was, I mean, great curb appeal.
03:30And I mean, just a different looking house for sure.
03:33It's kind of funky.
03:35It sort of fits my thing.
03:38Michelle, I know she always said she'd want to live in an A-frame.
03:41But, you know, we'll see how it goes.
03:44I mean, we can't quite see it, but you can see the openness in the background.
03:47I can't wait to get in there and take a look at that view.

04:44Walking in the house, I'd say the first thing I kind of noticed was the three different types of flooring
04:49that were kind of happening.
04:50So I'm not really a big fan of that.
04:52The countertops, not a big fan of, but you know, they could be changed.
04:57And for me, I'm thinking for Michelle, the kitchen sink to be underneath the kitchen window would be ideal.

11:57I mean, I guess based on the size of this home, I'd say it's got to be a little bit

12:58Michelle unfortunately couldn't make it along today, so one of their good friends, Marie, is coming along to help.
13:04So far, we've had a look at a house that has an amazing outlook on the water and one that
13:10was a little more private.
13:12This last option I have in store certainly has the most yard space of the three, which I think Andrew
13:17will love.

13:24Initial thoughts as we walk up that driveway?
13:26It's pretty.
13:27It is a nice house.
13:28I like the flatness of the yard.
13:31It's got a pretty nice curb appeal, I'd say.

13:36I mean, you know, it adds good curb appeal, the flat driveway, the flat property, and the house is very

13:44A little different from the last driveway we had to trek up to get into the house.

18:07So La Casa Lakeside Resort would be similar to what you'd find in an all-inclusive in Mexico.

18:13We have a wine tours, golf tours.
18:16We can take people to water slides in Vernon.
18:19Where do I sign?
18:20Yeah.
18:20It's, it's amazing.
18:21We have ATV trails and ATV tours.
18:24We have boat rentals, city rentals.
18:25We have a kids club.
18:27We have two outdoor pools, four hot tubs.
18:33What really drives people to this part of the Okanagan?
18:36The nature, the views, all of the amenities we have is incredible out this way.
18:43We have Fintree Provincial Park right down the road.
18:47There's waterfalls, adventure seekers.
18:49Yeah.
18:49There's pretty much something here for everybody.
18:51A lot of people move out here to kind of get away from the city.
18:54Yeah.
18:55So you still are, you know, about a half an hour away from town, but you have that feeling
18:59like you're not, you're not tight in a, in a downtown area.

19:02It feels like we're just right out in the countryside.
19:03But if you really do need something, it's not too far away.

19:08I just want to go jump in the lake right now.

19:24Now that Andrew has had some time to discuss all the options from our house hunt with his
19:28wife, Michelle, I'm meeting up once again with him and Marie to hear if they came to a decision.

19:39Last time we were together, we, we saw three pretty spectacular homes.
19:44So house number one, incredible up in the trees.
19:47I really felt like had an incredible ocean or lake view.
19:51I mean, what did you guys think about the first home?
19:53The landscaping was gorgeous.

19:55Um, I liked the openness, the kitchen living room concept.
19:59That was nice and open.

20:00Herb appeal was great.

20:02Lots of room for, for the gardens, for sure.

20:05I mean, it's a little steep, the property, but I, I think, I think it might be doable.

20:38Probably a lot more house than we need.
20:41And I think a lot more work could be done in that home.

21:14Personally, I liked all the outside vegetables, vegetable garden, you've got fruits there.

21:20And there's also room to add even more.
21:23To make the choice a little easier, what if we eliminated one from the mix?

21:30Um, you know, we decided to take number two off the list.

21:37And now we've narrowed it down to two.
21:38So we've got house one and house three.
21:40So, I mean, both great properties.
21:42I mean, personally, I'd be happy with either, but it's not my choice.

21:49And so I think it has to be house number one.
21:51I think if you're going to go with house number one, we have to get you a portrait that says
21:55you can't make a view.
21:56And you can hang it right beside the view.
21:58Because that would be perfect.
