00:07Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're taking a look at the 10 most busted characters in Smash
00:14Brothers history. Well, until the next game comes out, whenever that is, and people decide,
00:19oh, that one's broken too. Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe

00:49In the old days of Smash, Kirby was widely considered to be one of the best characters in the game.
00:55Not that that was a high bar to reach to begin with. Regardless, Kirby was an exceptional fighter on account
01:00of his great recovery and aerial mobility.
01:03Plus, you had his trademark copy ability that gave him access to every opponent's neutral special. Well, at least the
01:09ones that were on the map.
01:10Not every one of these was useful, of course, but this mix of traits and abilities made him a formidable
01:15foe in what few tournaments were held for this title.
01:18This is good pressure.
01:20Oh, wow. This is so back and forth. Chasing him down. This could be the kill right here. Nice, F
01:26-Smash.
01:26Some even went so far as to ban the Pink Puyo, mostly in doubles tournaments.
01:31Since then, Kirby hasn't really been close to the top of the tier list.
01:36He's gonna take a little bit of a reckless approach.
01:38Oh, that egg. That egg hurt some bad.
01:42Up till, up till.
01:43That's gonna get out.
01:44Yeah, that's boom, smile, and you know it.
01:46Marth. Super Smash Bros. Melee.
01:49There's no jump.
01:50I've been here before.
01:51These side-bees, man. These side-bees.
01:53Hey, press A to skip this cutscene.
01:55I don't know. We'll see.
01:56There you go.
01:57Oh, okay.
01:57Yep, yep.
01:58Though not the first character that comes to mind when thinking about Melee and its debatably
02:03busted fighters, Marth has frequented the very top of many tier lists for good reason.
02:09For starters, Marth has insanely quick startup animations, giving players very little time
02:14to react to his attacks.
02:16On top of that, the fighter from Fire Emblem boasts impeccable reach in his kit, so while
02:20the pointy end of his sword does inflict the most damage, he can easily rack up some damage,
02:25both up close and from a reasonable distance.
02:33That said, beware of players that know how to edge guard and make use of that tip.
02:40Oh.
02:41Oh.
02:41Mago can still bring it back, though.
02:42For sure.
02:43Yeah, with the way Mago Pop was okay.
02:44If we get this edge guard...
02:46Oh, never mind.
02:47Ah!
02:47That's gonna be it.
02:49Bayonetta.
02:49Super Smash Brothers for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
02:59Oh man, when Bayonetta was revealed as the final DLC character for Smash 4, we had no
03:05idea how bad the competitive scene was about to become.
03:08For a while, Bayonetta was absolutely broken with her aerial movement and ridiculous flexibility
03:13in stringing attacks together.
03:21True to the character, yes, but it came at the cost of tournaments quickly becoming stale.
03:27From small events to big tourneys like EVO, Bayonetta was suddenly every Smash player's
03:32main.
03:33Needless to say, folks were not happy and it led to her being banned across many, many tournaments.
03:47Ice Climbers.
03:48Super Smash Brothers Brawl.
03:50First thing in the morning, love to see it.
03:51Chain grabs across the stage.
03:52We're walking up.
03:52We're foots to one.
03:53We're getting the whole thing going.
03:55Turn around.
03:55Ooh.
03:56Oh, okay, okay.
03:56We can easily point to players like 9B or Miachi as the reasons why the Ice Climbers were
04:02considered broken, but it honestly depends on the situation.
04:06For a time, Ice Climber mains discovered a way to chain grab opponents using Nana's slightly
04:11delayed reaction to Popo's actions.
04:19They essentially became Touch of Death characters because of this.
04:23Despite this, the Ice Climbers were never banned officially because of one major tradeoff players
04:28had to deal with.
04:29Once Nana is KO'd, Popo becomes severely compromised with almost no recovery.
04:35So we suppose it balanced everything out?
04:45Super Smash Brothers.
04:55Of the few official tier lists ever made for the OG Smash, Pikachu has universally been considered
05:01to be the top tier character, the absolute highest of the few S tier characters every
05:07single time.
05:08In addition to his exceptional speed, Pikachu excels greatly in edge guarding and recovery
05:14to the point where he can basically bully any fighter out of the game, not to mention
05:18some of the incredible combos that are possible between his normals and specials.
05:22These are the traits that led Pikachu to be banned alongside Kirby in doubles tournaments
05:27and, more often, banned in singles tournaments.
05:31Pikachu isn't a part of the meta here, he is the meta.
05:40Fox McCloud, Super Smash Brothers Melee.
05:48While we're on the subject of metas, Fox has become a notorious face when talking about
05:53Melee and its diehard fanbase.
05:55See, there's a reason why people gravitated to the often-memed, Final Destination Fox-Only-No-Items
06:01ruleset.
06:02Ditto!
06:03Not having problems with that, you should kinda have problems in that matchup, you know?
06:08Uh...
06:08It's because Fox is the fastest character in a game known for its high speed.
06:13But Fox is grueling to fight against under other stages, most infamously, Temple.
06:19Temple gives Fox so much room to run away from rivals and slowly rack up damage with his blaster
06:24from a distance before gunning for the KO.
06:27Surprisingly, this was not enough to get Fox banned from tournaments.
06:31Instead, most tournaments simply chose to ban Temple itself from the stage selection.
06:36Fox would retain his speedy demeanor in later games, but he's never gotten this close to
06:41being, quote-unquote, broken after Melee.
06:44Oh, I...
06:45I'm sure there's no way!
06:47Okay.
06:47That could've been so devastating for the Mangonation.
06:50Oh, the drip.
06:51He's a drip!
06:52He's just playing with his food right now!
06:53Pyra and Mithra, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
07:04While Ultimate is arguably the most balanced game in the series, Pyra and Mithra have been
07:09a frequent point of discussion in whether they should be banned, nerfed, or sometimes even
07:14buffed.
07:15The problem many have had with the two Xenoblade waifus is how insanely easy they are to use.
07:20Truly, there is almost no skill ceiling to using them as several of their moves can inflict
07:25a ton of damage from just a simple input or two.
07:29You might be cooking with the right grease here.
07:31Uh-oh, Leo's starting to cook right here.
07:33Get off this thing!
07:34Get off this thing!
07:34That was so well timed there, too!
07:36Some players have even managed to find devastating setups and combos without ever having to transform
07:41to the other girl.
07:42Good thing there's custom balancing options.
07:45Understand that they had enough time to actually go for the throw into the freeze.
07:48Very smart.
07:49Giving the other climber just enough time to come back and that's gonna be enough to do
07:53it.
07:53Meta Knight!
07:54Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
08:05For the longest time, Meta Knight was the poster child for busted Smash characters, and honestly,
08:12he really was a nightmare to deal with.
08:14Meta Knight had just about every trait that made for a powerful Smash fighter.
08:18He had excellent recovery with his up and side special, insane speed to rack up damage
08:23quickly, almost no startup animations to give opponents time to react, and great aerial mobility
08:29with his wings.
08:30All of this resulted in Meta Knight being banned across just about every single Smash tournament
08:35under the sun until Smash 4.
08:37But worse fighters were on the horizon at that point, and we're not just talking about Bayonetta.
08:50Cloud Strife.
08:51Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
09:00Cloud was the menace of every doubles competitor during Smash 4's tenure.
09:06On his own, Cloud is indeed a strong fighter with his potential in zoning and how the limit-break
09:12variants of his specials can help him turn the tide of battle in his favor.
09:24However, when in a 2v2 match, that is when Cloud becomes utterly busted.
09:34No matter which character you pair him up with, Cloud gains even more advantages just
09:39by having an ally.
09:40He can lean into zoning a lot more heavily as your ally focuses on closing the distance,
09:45or even if your ally can choose a ranged character and just double up on zoning.
09:50The ability to create all kinds of busted teams with Cloud is what led to him being
09:55banned across many doubles tournaments and even a few singles tournaments.
10:00But no character has proven to be as controversial as our final entry.
10:04The jab coming through, oh dude, and that is where Spargo has really been winning games
10:08too.
10:08Between the spot dodges and the edge guarding, it's just been all Spargo.
10:11Oh my god!
10:12Steve!
10:14Super Smash Brothers Ultimate.
10:24While Meta Knight captured tumultuous tournament matches at a specific point in Smash history,
10:30Steve has caused a massive debate across the community on whether he should be legal or
10:35not.
10:35The reason?
10:36Steve is the only character to ever possess almost complete stage manipulation.
10:42Yes, his whole ability to build blocks anywhere on the stage has led to many Smash Pros discovering
10:48setups where Steve becomes virtually untouchable.
10:52It's made him perhaps the most frustrating character to fight since the series' inception.
10:57Although, what was truly infuriating players was the existence of a bug that became known as
11:02Phantom MLG.
11:04Through this glitch, Steve players could cancel whatever hit stun they suffered from and immediately
11:09counterattack.
11:10Many organizations quickly banned Steve from their tournaments once the glitch garnered widespread
11:15attention.
11:16However, with so few Steve competitors and even fewer that could even replicate it during competitive
11:21play, some have chosen to ignore the glitch and lift their bans.
11:25Tell us, which of these Smash fighters do you think needs to be banned from tournament play?
11:39Were there any you felt were unfairly banned?
