Transcript
00:00:14The film which you are about to see is an account of the tragedy which befell a group of five
00:00:19youths. In particular, Sally Hardesty and her invalid brother, Franklin. It is all the more
00:00:26tragic in that they were young. But had they lived very, very long lives, they could not have expected,
00:00:33nor would they have wished to see as much of the mad and macabre as they were to see that
00:00:38day.
00:00:39For them, an idyllic summer afternoon drive became a nightmare. The events of that day were
00:00:46to lead to the discovery of one of the most bizarre crimes in the annals of American history,
00:00:52the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
00:02:16This is only one of a series to be handed down as a result of a special grand jury investigation.
00:02:22Grave robbing in Texas is this hour's top news story.
00:02:26An informant led officers of the Muerto County Sheriff's Department to a cemetery just outside the small rural Texas community
00:02:33of Newt early this morning.
00:02:34Officers there discovered what appeared to be a grisly work of art.
00:02:38The remains of a badly decomposed body wired to a large monument.
00:02:42A second body was found in a ditch near the perimeter of the cemetery.
00:02:47Subsequent investigation has revealed at least a dozen empty crypts, and it's feared war will turn up as the probe
00:02:53continues.
00:02:54Deputies report that in some instances, only parts of a corpse had been removed.
00:02:59The head, or in some cases, the extremities removed, the remainder of the corpse left intact.
00:03:05Evidence indicates the robberies have occurred over a period of time.
00:03:08Sheriff, Jesus Maldonado, refused to give details in the ghoulish case and said only that he did have strong evidence
00:03:15linking the crime to elements outside the state.
00:03:18Area residents have reportedly converged on the cemetery, fearing the remains of relatives have been removed.
00:03:24No suspects are in custody as the investigation at the scene continues.
00:03:29Oil storage units continue to burn out of control at the huge Texaco refinery near the Texas-Louisiana border.
00:03:37Three storage units exploded into flames during the night, killing at least three workers and entering a dozen more.
00:03:43Firefighting units from three Texas cities continue to battle across with an effort to confide 24 flames.
00:03:49The smoke of the fire has been removed from Houston residents some 60 miles to the south.
00:03:54Health officials in San Francisco reluctantly admit they may have a cholera epidemic on their hands.
00:04:00Some 40 cases of a highly infectious disease have been confirmed.
00:04:04It is believed that a disease that the authorities are responsible for the spread of the disease.
00:04:12Houston police are puzzled over an outbreak of violence apparently touched off by a suicide.
00:04:17A young man reportedly angered by a local television blackout at a sports event jumped from the 10th story window
00:04:23of his apartment.
00:04:25A second man allegedly threatened to leave his death in the same window but was restrained by police.
00:04:31Witnesses to the incident reportedly urged the man to jump and respond to a crime.
00:04:36He murdered himself.
00:04:38He murdered him and was shot by himself.
00:04:39In a way of killing his mother.
00:04:40And his wife and their teenage boy were attacked by an Indian agent and his victim was taken over the
00:04:44custody.
00:04:45She offered no explanation for the attack.
00:04:47The lieutenant was treated for minor wounds at Bentup Hospital and released.
00:04:52A 16-story building under construction of downtown Atlanta collapsed today killing at least 29 persons.
00:04:59The engineering firm, responsible for the structural design of the building, could offer no explanation of the collapse.
00:05:06The structural firm say there's no logical piece of collapse suspected of the sabotage.
00:05:14Police in Gary, Indiana, have been unable to identify the bodies of a young man or woman.
00:05:29Police first identified the victims as two women.
00:05:33Continuing squabbings of the government's over the oil-rich regions of the upper Amazon, today erupted into violence.
00:05:40Portions of at least three South American governments have been involved.
00:05:49Disputed territory.
00:05:51Details were sketchy, and as yet none of the government's involved has acknowledged.
00:05:57Police in Dallas arrested a young couple today.
00:06:00Complaints by neighbors led them to discover the 18-month-old daughter of the couple, chained in the attic of
00:06:06a dilapidated house.
00:06:07Police now enter the distance of the nearby nearby, stationary within.
00:06:12denotes the due to scope.
00:06:16Before going he way behind.
00:06:19Isn't he OK?
00:06:31No, I can not.
00:06:32I was tired on hearing.
00:06:36Bye bye.
00:06:36Okay.
00:06:38This heat is just driving me crazy.
00:06:41I don't know if I can think much more.
00:06:42The condition of retrogradation is contrary or inharmonious to the regular direction of actual movement in the zodiac and is,
00:06:50in that respect, evil.
00:06:52Hence, when malefic planets are in retrograde and Saturn's malefic, okay, their malefice is increased.
00:06:59Have you been doing those Reader's Digest word power columns together?
00:07:02Jerry, it just means Saturn's a bad influence.
00:07:04It's just particularly a bad influence now, because it's in retrograde.
00:07:09Hey, man, you believe all that stuff your old lady's talking to me?
00:07:11I don't know.
00:07:31My granddaddy's buried here. Can we find out if anything happened to him?
00:07:34What's your granddaddy's name?
00:07:35Honey, that big, heavy fellow that's standing with that flashlight in his hand, that's a sheriff.
00:07:41You go tell him your granddaddy's buried in there.
00:07:44Okay.
00:07:44He'll let you in.
00:07:46Say, fella, I'm going to run off with the girl a minute. You don't mind, do you?
00:07:48Here come that fellow, Adam.
00:07:50Hey, folks, let us through here. This girl's granddaddy's buried here.
00:07:53Been in there the whole time, none of you, Walt.
00:07:56I just, Walt, didn't know anybody, didn't know, Walt...
00:07:58Ah, things happen here about, they don't tell about.
00:08:05I see things.
00:08:09You see, they say it's just an old man talking.
00:08:17You laugh at an old man, there's them that laughs and knows better.
00:08:31Yes, they're sure. The man said they could tell if the grave had been dug up.
00:08:35Franklin, don't worry. I saw it myself. He didn't look dug up to me.
00:08:45What's that? What smells?
00:08:50What is that stage? Roll up the window.
00:08:56Hey, that's the old slaughterhouse. That's where Grandpa used to sell his cattle.
00:09:04Hey, we got an uncle that works at one of those places outside of Fort Worth.
00:09:08Hey, you see those buildings there? That's where they kill them.
00:09:12They bash them in the head with a big sledgehammer.
00:09:14Oh, that's awful.
00:09:15It usually wouldn't kill them on the first leg.
00:09:18Oh, no.
00:09:20Oh, no.
00:09:22Oh, no.
00:09:26Oh, no.
00:09:28Oh, no.
00:09:30Oh, no.
00:09:32Oh, no.
00:09:33Oh, no.
00:09:33I mean, they'd start squealing and freaking out and everything,
00:09:36and they'd have to come up and bash them two or three times.
00:09:38And then sometimes it wouldn't kill them.
00:09:40I mean, they'd skin them sometimes even before they were even thin.
00:09:42Oh, that's horrible.
00:09:43Yeah.
00:09:43People shouldn't kill animals for food.
00:09:46Oh, well, they don't do it like that anymore.
00:09:48Now they got this big air gun that shoots a bolt into their skull and then retracts it.
00:09:52It's just boom.
00:09:54It goes boom.
00:09:54Boom.
00:09:55Franklin, I like meat.
00:09:57Please change the subject.
00:09:58Boom.
00:09:58Boom.
00:09:58That's terrible.
00:09:59It's still going on.
00:10:04Oh, man.
00:10:05It's hot in here.
00:10:13Hitchhiker.
00:10:14Should we pick him up?
00:10:15Oh, yeah, man.
00:10:16Pick him up.
00:10:16He'll asphyxiate out there.
00:10:17What does he look like?
00:10:18The son of a bitch is gonna smell just like the slaughterhouse.
00:10:21Oh, give the guy a break.
00:10:22He can sit by Franklin.
00:10:24What do you want to do?
00:10:25Oh, he's weird, Bucky.
00:10:27Pick him up, Matthew.
00:10:27No.
00:10:46Well, I think we just picked up Dracula.
00:10:49Where you headed, man?
00:10:52South, you work at that place?
00:10:54Oh, no.
00:10:56How did you get stuck way out here?
00:10:59I was at the slaughterhouse.
00:11:01I got an uncle that works at the slaughterhouse.
00:11:03Hey, my brother worked there.
00:11:05My grandfather, too.
00:11:08My family's always been in me.
00:11:11My whole family of Dracula.
00:11:14Hey, man, did you go in that slaughter room, or whatever they call it?
00:11:17The place where they shoot the cattle in the head with that big air gun thing.
00:11:20Oh, that gun's no good.
00:11:22I was in there once with my uncle.
00:11:24No way.
00:11:26With a sledge.
00:11:28See, that was better.
00:11:29They died better that way.
00:11:31How come?
00:11:32I thought the gun was better.
00:11:33Oh, no.
00:11:35With a new way people put out jobs.
00:11:38You do that?
00:11:41Look.
00:11:47I was the killer.
00:11:49You think?
00:11:50Let me see him.
00:11:52They don't send the heads away.
00:11:54It's your teeth.
00:11:55Yeah.
00:11:56Franklin.
00:11:59See?
00:11:59They make head cheese.
00:12:03They take the head, and they boil it, except for the tongue.
00:12:10And they scrape all the flesh away from the bone.
00:12:14They use everything.
00:12:16They don't throw nothing away.
00:12:18They use the jowls, the muscles, and the eyes, and the ligaments, and everything.
00:12:25Look at this.
00:12:25The nose is a gums, and all the flesh is boiling down into a big chili of fats.
00:12:30Wow.
00:12:31I didn't know that's what was in that stuff.
00:12:33It's really good.
00:12:35You like it?
00:12:37Yeah.
00:12:37I like it.
00:12:38It's good.
00:12:39Sounds horrible.
00:12:40Is it possible that we could talk about something else?
00:12:43You'd probably like it if you didn't know what was in it.
00:12:45No, I wouldn't.
00:12:46And I wish you'd stop talking about it.
00:12:48Oh.
00:12:50Franklin, you're making everybody sick.
00:12:52Oh.
00:12:55I see a portal for the system.
00:12:55Oh, you JupY.
00:12:5650-50 years.
00:12:56float the body, oh, my boy.
00:13:09What are you doing?
00:13:13Put that knife up.
00:13:24What are you doing to yourself?
00:14:05What are you doing to yourself?
00:14:42What are you doing to yourself?
00:14:52What are you doing to yourself?
00:15:25What are you doing to yourself?
00:15:28What are you doing to yourself?
00:15:52What are you doing to yourself?
00:16:15What are you doing to yourself?
00:16:27What are you doing to yourself?
00:16:49What are you doing to yourself?
00:16:54What are you doing to yourself?
00:17:13What are you doing to yourself?
00:17:14What are you doing to yourself?
00:17:17What are you doing to yourself?
00:17:39What are you doing to yourself?
00:18:17What are you doing to yourself?
00:18:26What are you doing to yourself?
00:18:36What are you doing to yourself?
00:18:40What are you doing to yourself?
00:19:07What are you doing to yourself?
00:19:10What are you doing to yourself?
00:19:15What are you doing to yourself?
00:19:44What are you doing to yourself?
00:19:51What are you doing to yourself?
00:20:04What are you doing to yourself?
00:20:08What are you doing to yourself?
00:20:31What are you doing to yourself?
00:20:33Hey, look at this place, huh?
00:20:35Look.
00:20:36Uh,
00:20:37I got some good barbecue here.
00:20:39Why don't you fellas stick around a while, huh?
00:20:42The expresspore will be by in a little while.
00:20:46Then,
00:20:47You want to get some barbacade?
00:20:50Them girls now, they don't want to go messing around in the old house.
00:20:55Best you stick around here.
00:21:08You know, we should have asked him if there was another gas station around.
00:21:11Don't you think he would have told us if there was?
00:21:15Man, it wouldn't hurt to ask, you know?
00:21:18Okay, I'll go ask.
00:21:24Damn it, the hell we should have stopped back there for gas.
00:21:30Hey, you think this place has room service?
00:21:34Franklin, you maniac, you're carrying out the van.
00:21:38Um, yeah, I just started doing that.
00:21:46Hey, I bet that's some of that guy's blood.
00:21:50Look at that.
00:21:51Look at that.
00:21:53You think that's blood?
00:21:54Yeah, I guess so.
00:21:58Oh, that's blood, all right.
00:22:00And that guy cut the hell out of himself.
00:22:03You think you could do that to yourself?
00:22:07Like crazy?
00:22:08Yeah, but, you know.
00:22:11It takes something, though.
00:22:12I mean, just to do that to yourself like he did?
00:22:15God.
00:22:19Do you think I said something made him mad?
00:22:24Well, what?
00:22:25Franklin, you're crazy, isn't he, Wild?
00:22:30Hey, I got us some barbecue.
00:22:32It's the closest place to get gas.
00:22:41We're going out to Grandpa's place, aren't we?
00:22:43There's a creek.
00:22:44You could go swimming.
00:22:45Let's go.
00:22:46Come on.
00:22:47Come on, Sally.
00:22:48We're going out to Grandpa's place.
00:22:49Let's go.
00:22:51Hey, that guy smeared blood all over the van.
00:22:56Looks like he's trying to run something.
00:22:58What'd he do?
00:22:59He rides up on the van?
00:23:04As the highest, highest crowns.
00:23:23Let me see your knife.
00:23:37Franklin, if we run out of gas
00:23:38before we get back to that service station,
00:23:40you're torn us back in the chair.
00:23:52Hey.
00:23:54You think that guy's just trying to scare us
00:23:56by, you know, blowing up my picture like that?
00:23:59Well, we can do it all right.
00:24:00Hey.
00:24:06Good night.
00:24:08Hello.
00:24:13Hey.
00:24:17Hey.
00:30:31We're right back.
00:31:28We're right back.
00:34:24Hello?
00:34:27Hello?
00:34:36Hello?
00:34:40Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, let's go.
00:35:07Hey, Pam!
00:35:16Hello?
00:35:41Kirk?
00:35:56Kirk?
00:35:57Kirk?
00:36:06Kirk?
00:36:16Kirk?
00:36:18Kirk?
00:36:42Kirk?
00:36:47Kirk?
00:36:48Kirk?

00:40:12Oh, my God.
00:40:17Oh, my God.
00:40:48Oh, my God.
00:41:17You just never gave it back to me.
00:41:19All right.
00:41:19I'll look for it.
00:41:22Listen, I think I'll walk down to the creek before it gets too dark.
00:41:25How do I get there, Frank?
00:41:26Well, there's a trail down to the road, I'll see you, I'll see you, I'll see you, I'll see you,
00:41:34I'll see you, I'll see you, I'll see you.
00:41:53Are you, I'll see you, I'll see you, I'll see you, I'll see you, I'll see you, I'll see you,
00:41:59I'll see you, I'll see you, I'll see you, I'll see you, I'll see you, I'll see you, I'll see
00:42:19you.
00:42:22You really didn't want me to come, did you?
00:42:26Oh, Franklin, I'm just tired.
00:42:29It's been a long day.
00:42:35Sally, did you believe in all that stuff that Pam was telling about Saturn and retrograde and all that?
00:42:42I don't know.
00:42:45Everything means something, I guess.
00:42:52You don't think that guy would try and follow us, do you?
00:42:56Well, I mean, there's no way that he could follow us.
00:43:03He's probably afraid Kirk will kill him.
00:43:13Sally?
00:43:14What now?
00:43:19I don't know if nothing.
00:43:23Never mind.
00:43:30Kirk!
00:43:35Kirk!
00:44:01Hello?
00:44:03Hello?
00:44:07Is anybody home?
00:44:13Excuse me, I'm looking for some friend.
00:44:16Hello?
00:44:23Is anybody here?
00:44:27Damn.
00:44:46Kirk?
00:44:49Are you guys in there?
00:44:55Hey guys, quit playing games.
00:44:57Quit goofing on me.
00:45:07Pam, is that you?
00:45:13Okay, you guys.
00:45:18Come on out.
00:45:20Come on.
00:45:32Kirk?
00:45:33Come on out.
00:45:43Come on out.
00:45:56Okay.
00:45:57Oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:46:27Oh, oh, oh.
00:46:57Oh, oh, oh.
00:47:27Oh, oh, oh.
00:47:33They must be lost.
00:47:35They don't have a flashlight or anything.
00:47:37If they're not back in a minute, we've got to go look for them.
00:47:41Well, what if we get lost, too?
00:47:45Sally, we ought to go to that gas station and get help.
00:47:48I'm not leaving you without Jerry.
00:47:52Jerry!
00:47:56Jerry!
00:47:58Jerry!
00:48:02Jerry!
00:48:06Jerry!
00:48:08Jerry!
00:48:10Jerry!
00:48:16They'll probably be back in a minute or so.
00:48:20Sally, we ought to go into that gas station.
00:48:26Sally.
00:48:29Sally, I think we ought to go.
00:48:35Are the keys in the van?
00:48:39Could I see the flashlight for a minute?
00:48:42What for?
00:48:44Franklin, let me see the flashlight.
00:48:46I'm going to go look for them.
00:48:47You don't have to go.
00:48:48Now, Sally, don't go.
00:48:49I don't think that's a good idea, Sally.
00:48:50I don't think you ought to go.
00:48:53Look, I'm going to honk the horn one more time.
00:48:56Just give me the flashlight.
00:48:57No, no, I'm going to honk the horn, and we're going to wait a minute, and then if they don't
00:49:03come, well, we'll go.
00:49:05All right?
00:49:13Sally, they took the keys.
00:49:14We don't have any keys.
00:49:16They took the keys.
00:49:19Stop it!
00:49:21Stop it!
