00:02Okay, gentlemen, you've both been giving me instructions.
00:04Obey my command at all times.
00:06Protect yourself at all times.
00:08Anything from here and up is good.
00:10From here on up is good.
00:11Touch gloves.
00:12Good luck to both of you.
00:14Hernandez breaks the Cuban mold, built like a light heavyweight,
00:18bringing size, strength, and pressure with layered offense and heavy hands.
00:22Yeah, he can box, but he chooses to impose.
00:25Meanwhile, Gauthier enters this fight with a renewed commitment to becoming a finisher.
00:31Round number one scheduled for ten in the middleweight division.
00:37And immediately, Hernandez establishes the jab.
00:43Hernandez is long, explosive, and very much looks to be the future of this middleweight division.
00:48You just wonder, is the future now here in this tenth pro fight,
00:52he's never really fought someone with the skills, the defensive ability of Gauthier.
00:57Yeah, if there was ever a fighter to prove yourself against, it will be a fighter like Gauthier.
01:02Man, Hernandez putting it on Gauthier early, and he said,
01:06yes, Gauthier is a tough, durable test, but I'm going to break him down with pressure and power.
01:12And as Brian mentioned, Hernandez says middleweight needs a new face.
01:16Get used to mine.
01:19You may put nightmares in some of our sleeping hell Diablo masks.
01:23Yeah, I would have seen him fight every weekend.
01:26He's so entertaining.
01:27He throws a lot of really aggressive, jointly Hernandez.
01:30And again, one thing that Gauthier said, and he's not doing it,
01:33I will throw more punches in this fight.
01:36Gauthier known as a defensive specialist with hard counterpunching.
01:44Oh, nice right hand.
01:47There's a jab to the body, well done by Hernandez.
01:51One thing Gauthier told us about fighting younger fighters, he says,
01:55people that bring the fight sometimes don't bring their defense with them,
01:58so that's what he's hoping for, that Hernandez will leave these openings.
02:05Yeah, and if there's anything that Gauthier has, it's that experience,
02:08opening that guard, waiting for the right moment to let those hands go,
02:13and, you know, round by round, finding a weight again in the fight.
02:17It's been all Fernandez here as he's walking down Gauthier, backing him up,
02:22Gauthier firing back with the right hand,
02:24but just pawing and definitely not throwing more punches as advertised,
02:29but it's hard to do when this offensive onslaught is coming your way.
02:33Nice pullback counter, and now Hernandez going to the body and upstairs,
02:37Hernandez looking to close the show here in the first round.
02:41Uppercut left.
02:42He looks like a scary dude as El Diablo continues to walk Gauthier down.
02:47That will be quite the statement if he gets his knockout early.
02:50Especially against a 2012 Olympian.
02:53This is Gauthier's 200th round as a professional.
02:55Has faced nothing but the best in his career.
02:59And here tonight is on the receiving end of a first-round whooping,
03:03courtesy of Yoenli Hernandez.
03:07Hernandez just not letting Gauthier breathe.
03:10No, definitely not.
03:11And even that jab is so powerful from Hernandez, pushing Gauthier back.
03:15An offensive force here in the first three minutes.
03:20Hernandez, 24 of 60.
03:23Gauthier just 6 of 35.
03:28Turn!
03:32Coming up in the main event, the towering Inferno, Sebastian Fundora.
03:37The intellectual-looking, and by the way, studying at Harvard?
03:41That Harvard?
03:43Sebastian Fundora, who makes his way back to the MGM Grand, looking for his third successive title defense, the physical
03:52anomaly.
03:54Keith Thurman calls him a walking obstacle course.
03:57And while Fundora has the height and reach, unbeknownst to any previous 154-pounder, he doesn't just use his length,
04:07he imposes his will.
04:09High-volume pressure fighter looking to entertain.
04:12And speaking of entertain, if you see Sebastian Fundora, his sister Gabriela's going to be right behind him.
04:18And by the way, she is an undisputed champion.
04:22And one of the pound-for-pound best in all of women's boxing.
04:26And, Mo, while Keith Thurman's trying to turn her back to the 2010s, how about Fundora bringing out the 80s
04:32mustache right there?
04:33That's awesome, Anchorman stuff.
04:41Round number two, and Gauthier trying to be more aggressive here to start.
04:45And, of course, be careful when you get involved with an exchange with a guy like Hernandez.
04:50Yeah, that's the only thing.
04:51If he wants to be more aggressive, that's going to create more opportunities for Hernandez to be able to catch
04:55him opening up.
04:58And at 37 for Terrell Gauthier.
05:01Hey, this could very well be the last opportunity to assert himself in the middleweight division.
05:08Again, taking on the likes of Carlos Adamas.
05:14Well, one thing Adamas said at the press conference this week, he said,
05:18we've got to stop this narrative about me just being a tough opponent for the champions or the fighters on
05:23the rise up.
05:24He wants to switch that up and prove that he's still very much a contender in this division.
05:29Well, he's contending with a very difficult task in front of him here.
05:33I knew you were going to say that.
05:39I mean, he's just strafing his body, guys.
05:43Yeah.
05:44Yeah, I mean, it's definitely the pressure from Hernandez.
05:47I mean, he's just throwing a lot and not giving him.
05:50Brian said he's not giving him time to breathe.
05:52Forget the fact that he's a knockout artist from Cuba, the fact that he's a lefty.
05:58It's just incredible the attributes that Yuen Lee Hernandez presents.
06:03And let's not forget, this is just his 10th fight as a professional after a decorated amateur career.
06:09He's certainly on the fast track here at age 28, but he's showing you that he belongs.
06:15He belongs.
06:17Yeah, definitely impressive.
06:18I mean, Gosset is a fighter who gave Tim Sue problems.
06:22Yes, dropped Tim in the first.
06:23John Garcia in the first.
06:24Last fight against, yeah, Elijah Garcia.
06:26A lot of people thought he won.
06:27And look at what Hernandez has been doing these last two rounds.
06:31Impressive.
06:31Gosset also has a draw with Austin Trout that a lot of observers thought should have went his way.
06:43Gosset has found four former or current champions.
06:46So, it's the back.
06:50Again, one of boxing's great unsolved puzzles, but Hernandez seems to be solving it quite easily.
06:58Yes.
07:02It's interesting, as Hernandez told us in the fighter meetings, he planned to work from mid to long distance and
07:07be aggressive from the outside.
07:09And he said, you'll see a different Yuen Lee Hernandez.
07:12And that just hasn't been the case.
07:14And, by the way, that's a smart adjustment so far.
07:16Making those punches count, and it's just not the punches.
07:20Look at the way he delivers the shots.
07:22Mixing up the hooks, the crosses, the uppercuts, and being fully in command every single second of every round thus
07:29far.
07:29Ah!
07:36How are you doing?
07:39You good?
07:39How are you feeling?
07:41He's good.
07:46The same thing you did in the first round.
07:49Don't let him get out of the ropes.
07:50Use your fintas too.
07:54Use your fintas, okay?
07:56Use the fints, okay?
07:58The only thing that you got to understand is that he's just trying to surprise you with something.
08:06Don't let that happen.
08:07Use the jab, jab, and combinations.
08:11The best thing you can do is the position.
08:14The position is better than nothing.
08:16And when you have it, you can find the four and the seven.
08:18And you can throw them with the punches.
08:23Very good, very good.
08:24Really good, really good.
08:28Hernandez staying sharp in camp and helps when you get to spar with the likes of Canelo Alvarez, who's very
08:36high on Yoenli Hernandez.
08:38And we're watching action in the middleweight division, a division in a state of flux.
08:43Unified champion, Janabek Halamkanuli, tested positive for a bad substance, stripped of one of his titles.
08:50Carlos Adamos just recently successfully defended his title.
08:54Talks about moving up to 168.
08:56And, of course, the timeless wonder, Arislandi, Laura, the fellow Cuban of Hernandez, as Hernandez puts together a plethora of
09:03uppercuts.
09:04But you see what I'm saying?
09:06The division needs the new blood, and Hernandez wants to be that guy.
09:10Hernandez is switching stances on the move here.
09:12Incredible display here tonight.
09:13And again, against Terrell Gaucher, you guys.
09:16Cutting off the ring at every turn to continually pin Gaucher back.
09:21Yeah, and splitting that guard, too.
09:22I mean, the shots are so powerful that literally he's splitting that guard open and getting those punches in.
09:30Man, everything he delivers is with an authoritative thud.
09:34Even his shoes have devil horns and a tail on them.
09:40The devil is in the details.
09:42And look at the details of the total punches through three rounds.
09:45It's a whitewash war.
09:47Yoenli Hernandez.
09:48And, boy, the combinations, the beautiful execution of technique.
09:54And Gaucher gave us a scouting report on Hernandez.
09:57He mentioned sometimes wide hooks, a little bit too reckless.
10:00We've seen nothing but great poise here on the inside from Hernandez.
10:04Yeah, well said.
10:05That's exactly what he's doing.
10:06He's so in control that, you know, he does take those steps back and tries to see what he has
10:12to do next.
10:14He's not overcommitting at times, and I like that from Hernandez.
10:20And it's a suffocating attack by Hernandez.
10:24But here comes Gauthier opening up.
10:25He's forced to open up, but be careful.
10:28Hernandez now unloading with the uppercut.
10:31The left-hand referee watching.
10:33Gauthier trying to defend, but in trouble.
10:35Now the veteran trying to hold on.
10:40Yeah, you know something hurt or something happened when you're trying to hold, trying to grab.
10:44It's definitely hurt him or, you know, something went wrong there for Gauthier.
10:57Gauthier with the 1-2, but the high guard blocking that for Hernandez.
11:02Nothing getting through.
11:06But we're looking at a middleweight in Gauthier Hernandez.
11:10His footwork, his athleticism, his explosiveness.
11:13It's just so big!
11:14And then you have that length on top of it.
11:16Yeah.
11:18But look, if you're Gauthier, you're trying to see if he'll slow down a bit.
11:22See if the openings will begin to be there.
11:26Hard to believe that will come true.
11:28But yeah, I think that's his best hope.
11:31We are through three rounds still to come tonight.
11:34Of course, our much-anticipated main event where the former Unified Welterweight champion, Keith Thurman,
11:40returns to the venue where he suffered his lone defeat against Manny Pacquiao back in 2019,
11:46looking to exercise those demons.
11:48A decade ago, he sat atop the historically deep welterweight division.
11:53And now, in his second fight at 154, yeah, he's 37.
11:57But he says that the long, inactive spots in his career actually have made him a fresher fighter.
12:06It's not about the injuries and the long delays.
12:10Keith Thurman is very confident.
12:13In fact, last night, he held court in the MGM Grand near midnight, the night before a fight.
12:19Calm, cool, and collected.
12:22One time, Keith Thurman challenges Sebastian Fundora for the 145-pound title in tonight's main event.
12:29Okay, let's go.
12:32We are set for the fourth round, and it has been all Yoenli Hernandez.
12:46Abner, we always talk about adjustments.
12:48Easier said than done.
12:49I know Gaucher wants to open up, but as soon as he does, he gets caught.
12:53What adjustments can the veteran make?
12:54There's no footwork.
12:55There's no lateral movement.
12:58Yeah, the jab, throwing more, but you said it right.
13:01Every time he throws or opens up, it gives an opportunity for Hernandez to land.
13:05And he's a lot more faster than Gaucher that, you know, those punches are going through that guard.
13:10So for Gaucher, maybe the jab, use the entire ring, one, two punches.
13:14I mean, the fighters that were known for Gaucher, try to counterpunch.
13:18I know easier said than done.
13:20Are you surprised at how easy Hernandez is making you look, Bryce?
13:23I am, and it's keeping up the pace that he is, the switching of stances to not allow an exit
13:28for a smart fighter like Gaucher,
13:30and just putting Gaucher in a spot where the only offense he's going to have is throwing with Hernandez,
13:36and that is a dangerous proposition.
13:38Man, Hernandez is just toying with Gaucher right now.
13:44Man, heavy right hand in the...
13:46That's it, brother.
13:46Oh, wow.
13:47Whoa.
13:47Same referee, guys, Alan Huggins, earlier tonight, stopped a fight on the prelims.
13:53What are we doing here?
13:54Yeah, that's the second time tonight, Alan Huggins did that.
14:01Second time tonight.
14:03What would just happen?
14:06I mean, safety is paramount.
14:09Yeah, but he's taking away from the performance.
14:10Athletes have a chance to do their, apply their craft, Brian Campbell.
14:16And for Gaucher, who had the unfortunate decision last fight against Elijah Garcia,
14:21he has a reputation for being tough, for not getting hurt.
14:25And that's how you're going to give him his first knockout loss?
14:28I don't like the savage.
14:33Abner?
14:34Yeah, yeah, I'm with you guys.
14:36I don't like it.
14:37It's bad.
14:38It takes away from the performance from Juan Luis Hernandez as well,
14:41because I think he could have done a lot more, showed a lot more,
14:43and perhaps get that knockout that, you know, they just gave him,
14:47gave that to him right now, but in a different way.
14:50Not happy with the stoppage.
14:51We're not even halfway through this fight.
14:53People pay hard-earned money to watch a prize fight.
14:56And again, I will never have volunteered to be a referee.
15:00I would never do it.
15:01It's a tough, you know, it's very, very difficult,
15:05but you are paid to do a job.
15:07And again, it's the second time tonight.
15:09I say this again.
15:16Well, let's see what he saw.
15:18This is not Hernandez's fault.
15:19He's doing what he's supposed to do,
15:21which is put on pressure, split the guard with big punches,
15:24but Gaucher's not even hurt in this situation.
15:27That was a push down.
15:29And again, you don't want to remove the headline.
15:33Another incredible performance for Yuenle Hernandez,
15:36who was robbed of an emphatic,
15:38a chance to make an emphatic high-line real knockout.
15:41And again, Gaucher,
15:43who's been in there with the upper echelon,
15:46and at 37 years of age,
15:49stopped for the first time.
15:51Who's to say in the second half of this fight
15:52that Hernandez doesn't slow down,
15:54and that Gaucher doesn't pick it up?
15:56Yep, yep.
15:57Anyway, we will get the official word now
16:01from Jimmy Lennon, Jr.
16:04Ladies and gentlemen,
16:05we have the time of 1 minute 17 seconds,
16:08and round number 4 of Referee Stops the Contest.
16:12He is the winner by way of technical knockout.
16:15He is still undefeated,
16:16and now the NABO and WBA Continental Latin American champion,
16:22Yohenle El Diablo Hernandez.
16:29So Hernandez moves to 10-0
16:32with his ninth stoppage win.
16:35Gaucher stopped for the very first time.
16:39Brian Custer,
16:41not the way we wanted to see this fight end.
16:43Yeah, I'm with you there.
16:45Listen.
