00:00Nothing below these lines, nothing below here.
00:03If you want to touch those, do it now.
00:04God bless.
00:08All right, our main event.
00:10Quick look at the tail of the tape for both of these fighters.
00:14Ronnie Rios is nine years older than Acosta.
00:16They both are a similar height and reach.
00:17It's the advantage and experience for Ronnie Rios' youth on the side of
00:22Bryan Acosta tonight, or will experience, get the best of them.
00:31Ronnie Rios in the black trunks with pink trim.
00:35Bryan Acosta in the colors of his native Mexico in the red, green, and white.
00:40Both fighters, orthodox fighters here.
00:44Ronnie Rios, former world champion contender, has fought four world champions.
00:49A big step up for Bryan Acosta coming off the loss to Suleiman Sagawa and Roman,
00:55or excuse me, Roman Cardenas.
00:58I got a lot of questions in both these fighters tonight.
01:01Ronnie Rios, how much does he have left at 36 years old?
01:04You know, he's had a long career.
01:05He's fought some top flight professionals throughout his time.
01:08Says he still wants a world title, but how realistic is that?
01:11And then for Bryan Acosta coming off two losses, a respectable loss to Cardenas,
01:16but a vicious stoppage in his last fight to Sagawa.
01:21Psychologically, you know, where does he stand?
01:23So a lot of questions to be answered tonight.
01:24You know, he had a great performance against Cardenas.
01:28Yeah, fantastic.
01:28Some people thought he pulled it off.
01:30He dropped them and had a great performance.
01:32Then he comes back and loses in a fashion where, you know, nobody expected.
01:37Right now, you know, I see his, you know, himself working out the jab,
01:41but I don't see his legs too strong.
01:43I don't know if you guys see the same.
01:44I think he's a little wobbly with his legs.
01:47Yeah, I have a lot of questions, like I said, about Bryan Acosta.
01:50You know, physically, mentally, psychologically.
01:53That was a tough loss his last time out.
01:54Going to find his identity, really, right?
01:56And he started working with Bob Santos in this training camp,
01:59and it's a good body shot with the right hand there for Acosta.
02:02Remember what we were saying about Acosta before he fought the Cardenas fight,
02:05that he had been in camp with Naoi Inouye a couple of times.
02:08And we were saying, we didn't know a lot about Acosta at the time,
02:10but we were saying, if Inouye is bringing you back to camp,
02:13that means you must be the goods if you must be hanging with Inouye.
02:15And then in the fight against Cardenas, he did show that.
02:17He showed that he was the goods.
02:19So that's why the Sagawa fight was so surprising.
02:21Not that Sagawa was a bad fighter.
02:22It's very crafty, but just the way Acosta was dominated in that fight.
02:26Well, Sagawa gave a tough right to Bruce Carrington as well,
02:28and he went on to win the overall title.
02:30A lot of people thought he beat Bruce that night.
02:31Exactly.
02:32So that's not the worst loss either.
02:34Yeah, but it was the way.
02:35It's the way in which he did it.
02:37And what that does mentally to a fighter, which obviously had him change training camp,
02:42change training regimen as he talked to us about yesterday.
02:46So let's see if those changes paid off.
02:47And for Rios, what, 17 months out of the ring?
02:50That's not always a bad thing for a fighter of his age.
02:53A couple good uppercuts from Acosta there.
02:54Acosta looks, if nothing else, he looks to be more powerful here in the first round
03:00than we've seen in the past.
03:01Nice. Two left hooks there for Rios.
03:04Now, both these guys like to engage.
03:08Two high contact fighters like to fight in the pocket.
03:09Good answer there, some sharp punching from Rios.
03:13Acosta has a tendency to get very square on the inside,
03:16which you saw in the Sagawa fight really hurt him.
03:18He's doing it again here, choosing to fight with Rios on the inside.
03:28Good combination there for Acosta to end the round.
03:48All right, guys.
03:50Keep your hands up, all right?
03:52I'm going to hold this on here.
03:54Use your long jab.
03:55Even when you're here, take it, poke it, poke it, poke it.
03:58And look, I told you the referee said it can't be legal to the cup, okay?
04:02So you got to get in time.
04:03Don't force it, but it's there for you.
04:05That's a perfect round.
04:17All right, that was an entertaining first round there.
04:21Yeah, these guys didn't take long to get used to each other.
04:24They started finding in their home about mid-round.
04:29And that's another thing about this guy, you know, with Acosta,
04:31he's coming off of getting knocked out in his last fight.
04:35But Ronnie Rios is also coming off a fight where he was stopped,
04:38and it's been stopped four of his five losses.
04:40Acosta coming out southpaw this round.
04:42Yeah, we have seen him switch in the past.
04:44He did that against Cardenas.
04:45I believe he tried it against Sagawa.
04:49And two quick uppercuts with the right hand out of the southpaw stance,
04:53something to keep an eye on.
04:58I do think that Acosta will be better served to box on the outside a little bit.
05:03He fights him a taller, longer stance.
05:05Ronnie wants to get an inside and trade.
05:08Is Acosta a little too close when he smothered himself, guys?
05:10Yeah.
05:11He looks a little bit like he's smothered himself a little too much.
05:13Yeah, he's got a reach advantage, so he's got to use it.
05:15He's got to use it.
05:15You know, and I said at the beginning of the first round that I questioned his legs,
05:20but it's actually, he's a little lanky. That's the way he is.
05:22But he, you know, he looks pretty strong right now.
05:24He's landing good punches.
05:25Ronnie Rios needs to find the inside.
05:28We don't know what Ronnie Rios has left.
05:30Ooh, good uppercut.
05:3136 or 37 years old, went through wars in the fights, in the gym also.
05:35So we got to see what he's got left.
05:37And one thing about Acosta, he punches harder than his record suggests.
05:40We saw that in the Cardenas fight.
05:42He landed a good left hook high on the head that had him in a whole world of trouble.
05:47And you can see some of the heavy handedness here.
05:50Rios coming over the top of some of these shots here.
05:52Good double left hook, body head from Acosta, while he's got Rios pinned against the ropes.
05:57And giving himself good space to work there so he can land those punches.
06:01But he's so square.
06:02Yeah, and smothering himself a little bit, right?
06:04And I feel like that distance is better for Rios, who has the shorter arms.
06:08Rios like to lay in some good shots and get off the ropes.
06:11Down to the body with two left hooks for Rios.
06:15And what we saw, even in the Cardenas fight, this is how Acosta fights.
06:18He comes forward, he stays in the pocket, he gives up his height and reach advantage, and he likes to
06:21bang.
06:23He showed an incredible chin against Cardenas, because Cardenas can really punch with both hands.
06:28But that fight was also at 122, this is at 126.
06:31And ultimately that's why Segawa was too crafty for him.
06:33Because he just, yeah, Segawa's not the kind of guy that just gives you this kind of fight.
06:36You gotta, you gotta force it on him and be deceptive with it.
06:40But Rios will.
06:41Rios will stay on the inside, he'll stay in the pocket,
06:43but also I don't like to see an older fighter put himself on the ropes the way Rios is.
06:47Yeah, and that's like the old legs sometimes, you wind up back on the ropes.
06:50And Rios has landed some good shots in this fight,
06:53but he's starting to go back to the ropes more and more, right coach?
06:55Look, at this point, I think Rios needs to continue fighting on the inside,
07:00trying to land more body shots, because he has to slow down Acosta.
07:04Acosta's a young guy that's gonna keep coming, and gonna keep coming.
07:07And if, and if Rios doesn't go to the body, doesn't work to try to slow him down,
07:11then he's gonna be in trouble in the late rounds.
07:12What about the fact that Rios is back on the ropes a lot?
07:15No, that's, that's, that's against him, that's totally against him.
07:17And he's putting himself there.
07:18He's gotta, yeah, he's putting himself there, but it's, it's, it's against him.
07:20He needs to turn him and try to back up Acosta.
07:23Acosta, like I, you know, one more time I said,
07:25it looks a little, a little weak in his legs, but you gotta back him up.
07:28You can't, you can't give him his legs.
07:39Another solid finish to a round for Acosta.
07:49Yeah, I didn't really like what I saw in that round from Rios.
07:52Putting himself on the ropes far too much.
07:53Getting hit with, with a lot of left hooks high on the head.
07:56Yeah, not, not what you want to see from an older fighter.
07:58Good uppercut there on the inside of that exchange from Acosta.
08:01He punched in between Rios and then followed up with some good shots.
08:04And you see Rios trying to punch back, but he can't get his way off the ropes.
08:08Acosta, also physically big, despite being a former junior featherweight,
08:12physically a big guy and, and a tall order for Rios to both punch at him
08:16and also physically push him back.
08:17Champ, also, Rios, he was just trying to meet the youthful exuberance with effort
08:22instead of craftiness.
08:23You want to see the experienced guy meet him with craftiness.
08:25I didn't, I didn't see that last round.
08:27Yeah, that's, that's tough when you want to meet the young guy with a, with a, with
08:30youthful energy that doesn't happen.
08:32Once you pass 35-ish, you got to become more crafty.
08:36And Rios does have craft.
08:37You know, he's obviously got a ton of experience.
08:39He's a smart fighter.
08:43And we had questions about at 36 years old with 17 months out,
08:46was that going to do him any favors and give him the rest and motivation that he needs?
08:50Because he was honest with us when we spoke with him.
08:52He said, I did contemplate hanging up the gloves.
08:54I did contemplate retirement in this last break.
08:56He said you had a job with some benefits.
08:58Yes.
08:58And, and then, but you know, it just comes, comes calling you back.
09:02And he says he's not, he's not fighting just for the money.
09:04He's fighting because he never got the chance to become a world champion.
09:07He still thinks he can.
09:08He wants to be a world champion.
09:09So he's doing it for the right reason.
09:11Well, and then in that fight against Nick Ball, he's like, it was so frustrating.
09:14And I didn't want to go out like that because I felt like I still did the right things in
09:17that fight.
09:17I didn't maybe listen to my corner as much as I should, but he didn't want to go out like
09:21that.
09:22Smile at the face of a person.
09:23Sometimes it's not the right, the right reasons, man.
09:25You know, when you're getting hit by a young fighter who, who is hungry to, to, to become a world
09:31champion
09:31and you're already, you've already had your title opportunities and didn't make it.
09:35Maybe, maybe it is time to say, hey, I have a nice job.
09:39I have good benefits.
09:40Let's just follow up on my work.
09:41Beautiful family.
09:42Exactly.
09:43Kid to San Niko watching him fight for the first time tonight.
09:45Because that's the thing.
09:46The other guy also has the dreams.
09:48You know, it's like, you're not the only one with the dreams.
09:49I haven't tasted the opportunity yet.
09:51Yeah, exactly.
09:52Rios has four times already.
09:53And he was competitive against Gardena, who he then saw walk into the Inouye fight and got a title fight.
09:58So, you know, that, that left probably a bad taste in his mouth, too, that he was that close.
10:01I actually spoke to Acosta via social media after that fight,
10:04when the announcement for the Cardenas and Inouye fight, he, he sent me a sad face emoji.
10:08I said, listen, that shows you how close you are.
10:10That could have been you.
10:11So you got to keep that as, as motivation.
10:14Especially getting that experience sparring.
10:16Yeah.
10:17Inouye as well.
10:18All right.
10:19Halfway through, more than halfway through round three in the scheduled 10 rounder.
10:23Acosta's throwing some good offense.
10:25Got Cliff with a shot there, but he's not just going to the head.
10:28He's finding the body as well.
10:29And champ, it's what you're saying.
10:30Rios is trying to meet energy with energy.
10:32Yeah.
10:32It's very difficult against a young guy.
10:35Good shot by Rios, but again, he's back on the ropes, guys.
10:38That rocked Acosta.
10:39That left hook rocked him.
10:40His legs for a moment there.
10:46That's one thing about Acosta we've seen him.
10:47He's, he's a warrior.
10:49It's tough to back up Acosta, but I think Rony Rios' chances to back him up and try to,
10:54try to smuggle him into the ropes to try to be a little more effective.
10:57You know, Rony has had wars in the gym.
11:00You know, it's been a couple of years, but he used to do every training camp in my gym,
11:04sparring the guys like Bam Rodriguez, sparring Josh Afranco.
11:07He hasn't been back in a couple of years, so I don't know how, how well of, you know,
11:11sparring he's been getting, how kind of, what kind of training he's been getting,
11:14but he used to be in great shape.
11:17He's working up here.
11:18He's doing good.
11:19You know, he's landing some good shots, running smart.
11:22He went back to the body of Acosta too.
11:26Much better round from Ronyos.
11:28Woke him up a little bit here in round three.
12:05All right, and we're back and ready to start round four.
12:08Better round than round three for Rony Rios.
12:10I liked a little bit better what I saw there than I saw in round number two.
12:13He came back with some good shots.
12:14Looks like he stung Brian with one of those left hooks upstairs,
12:17but still trying to meet effort with effort, but you land the right shot,
12:20you can right the ship.
12:22These guys are fighting in a phone booth just like our co-main event
12:24in a true Pro Box TV fashion.
12:29Let's see if Rony Rios can pick up where he left off at the end of round three,
12:33building some momentum that we hadn't seen in the two rounds prior to that.
12:39As he lands a nice left hook inside, but there you go.
12:42Good combination there.
12:43Three punch combination for Rios, but then right back to the ropes.
12:45Yeah, again, it's not like he's being forced back to the ropes either.
12:49It hasn't been like a consistent effort from Acosta to do that.
12:56But there are a lot of openings to punch with Acosta.
12:59He stands tall at times when he's throwing his power shots.
13:04See, one thing that Rony, Rony is covering up pretty good.
13:07He blocks pretty good, but he needs to come back with not just one punch.
13:10He needs to go three, four punch combinations.
13:12See, looking for one punch, it's never gonna, it's not always gonna land.
13:16So, so he needs to put three or four punches together.
13:19Yeah, coach, that was one of the problems he had in the Nick Ball fight.
13:22He was trying to match punch for punch and Nick Ball was just getting there quicker.
13:27Right hand lands for Rios up top, then down to the body.
13:31Right back comes Acosta with the left, twice there with the left hand.
13:36And if you go by the numbers, neither one of these guys is a true puncher.
13:39But they're just throwing non-stop power punches at this point.
13:45And Rios looking for space, but we're going from one rope to the other guys.
13:50Well, and Nick Ball's work rate and the way that he was able to kind of build and finish that
13:55fight,
13:55like that chips away at whatever kind of you got left.
13:58And you come in here, how much of that boulder can stand up to, you know.
14:03Especially against another young guy.
14:05Exactly.
14:06Energetic, like hungry.
14:08You know, Acosta wants to prove something.
14:10Oh, good shot there by Acosta on the inside.
14:21You know, Acosta does look focused here.
14:23You know, the new camp looks like it's done him some good.
14:25He is not forgetting to move his head at times.
14:27He's letting those hands go in combination.
14:29He's mixing up the variety of punches quite well.
14:34But really, it's just the pressure, constant.
14:37Yeah, energy fight.
14:39Yeah.
14:39That's what it needs to do in the gym.
14:42And I'm pretty sure Bob Santos will work on it.
14:44It's combined his ability of throwing punches upstairs,
14:47but also he's got to combine them with his legs.
14:49His legs are not in the position.
14:51Look, he's stepping from one step to another.
14:54You know, one time the right foot is on the air while he's throwing the left foot.
14:58But it is.
14:58It is.
14:59He needs to put that together.
15:00And I'm pretty sure Bob Santos will work on that.
15:04That's what you were kind of looting to earlier.
15:05Because he's a very strong kid.
15:06He's a very strong kid.
15:07But he's taking his power away from his base.
15:09Exactly.
15:09His power goes away because he doesn't have that balance in his legs.
15:14Look, look.
15:15You see his legs up and down.
15:17Look, look at that.
15:19Yeah, we're a little herky-jerky.
15:21Is it the heel-toe walk?
15:23That is.
15:24Sometimes you got to step on your toe first, right?
15:25And he's lifting it up.
15:26Yeah, you got to come in with your toe to get that power.
15:28And he's still able to back up Ronnie Rios nonetheless.
15:34Another solid round for Acosta there.
15:38It's a nice uppercut at the very end of the round by Acosta.
15:41But again, to your point, coach, he literally had one of his feet off the ground as he's throwing that
15:45shot.
15:45It's not going to get the most leverage out of the punch that way.
15:52Yeah, what I mean by heel-toe is heel-toe is how you walk normally.
15:55Like, in boxing, you'd rather land toe-heel.
15:58You know, so just in case anything, you know, you can hop in or out and adjust the distance here.
16:04Change the direction.
16:04When you land on your heel, it kind of takes away your footing a little bit.
16:07You walk toe-heel, but you should box.
16:10You walk heel-toe, but you should box toe-heel.
16:14Remember what happened to Palmit that little while ago?
16:15He won the fight, but he was just chilling too much.
16:18Yes, sir.
16:18All right.
16:20Working that jab on you. Double jab and the follow-up.
16:22Let's go.
16:23Let's go.
16:35All right, here we go.
16:37Starting round five.
16:39Down to the body with the jab.
16:41Right hand for Rios.
16:43Or excuse me, for Acosta.
16:46And that's the thing.
16:47Acosta goes right to contact.
16:49Closes in.
16:53It's not letting Rios rest.
16:55Very smart being the younger fighter.
16:57That youthful exuberance can be really difficult to overcome.
17:00Especially if you're not using your craft.
17:08How close to actually boxing at distance.
17:10Showing a jab.
17:12Which is kind of more what the game plan was supposed to be.
17:15Supposed to be.
17:16He said that yesterday.
17:16We didn't even get into that, but that's definitely what
17:20Bob Santos wanted from his young charge.
17:22Was to use the jab a lot more.
17:24Even reference one of your fights, Polly.
17:25I'll tell you what, it's easier to use the jab when the opponent's tired.
17:28They can't get out of the way of it as easy.
17:31Good body shot with the left hand.
17:33Good punch variation from Acosta tonight.
17:35He's mixing up those shots.
17:36Sure.
17:37Around, up the middle, going to the body, uppercuts.
17:39Would like to see a little more mid-range and long-range tactics.
17:42So one, two.
17:43Because I think he actually gets more power on his punches at range than he does on the inside.
17:47He can set his feet a little bit better.
17:48When you're a taller guy like that, just generally just get more, more leverage on the end of your punch.
17:53Good head movement there from Acosta.
17:55Very slick.
17:59Rios trying that.
18:00There's the right hand.
18:01I was expecting that right hand.
18:02You know, Acosta comes in with a jab, but he drops his hand when he's on it.
18:06And Rios got him.
18:07You know, a fighter with more power, a younger fighter could hurt him.
18:14Especially right there.
18:15I mean, Rios is catching him with some of these shots.
18:16Those are scoring shots there on the inside.
18:18It's just not backing up Acosta.
18:20Every time Acosta gets hit or clipped or even a shot that you can feel,
18:24he just stands right in front, gets square and starts trading.
18:32Rios holding on now, wants a break.
18:33You see the pace is getting uncomfortable for the older guy.
18:36That's what I meant about the contact.
18:38Brian starts that contact immediately at the start of each round.
18:41Back to Southpaw for Acosta.
18:44He gets hit with a straight right from Rios to the body.
18:49Nice jab there from Ronnie Rios.
18:51Beautiful, there it is again.
18:54There we go.
18:55This is what I was talking about.
18:56These are those veteran tactics.
18:57Changing range, stepping in and out.
18:59That's also why Acosta's on the front foot, guys.
19:01Switching Southpaw, which is not his natural stance.
19:04If you haven't perfected that, you shouldn't do it.
19:06Especially on the outside.
19:07You're special.
19:07But also, if you're going to be on the front foot,
19:09you got to be inside on the front foot.
19:11Mid and long range being on the front foot puts you in position
19:13to get hit with those kind of punches.
19:15Because they're sharp and short.
19:17Especially if you're going heel-toe.
19:18You do have less reactivity.
19:20Exactly.
19:26Better into this round here for Ronnie Rios.
19:40Hey!
19:41Way to fuck up, veteran.
19:43That was beautiful!
19:44Sir, that's what we need to make you more of that.
19:55I want you to...
19:56On the inside.
19:57When you get on the inside, on the outside,
19:59rip those hooks on the outside.
20:02Okay?
20:03It's your fight.
20:05Yep.
20:08As we get ready to start round six,
20:10this one is scheduled for ten.
20:15Good action fight so far.
20:16These guys have been pushing the limit again.
20:18Bryan has been unrelenting.
20:20But Rios is showing some class here.
20:23Had a good end to that round.
20:25Started getting on his feet a little bit.
20:26Using that jab from the outside.
20:37Let's see on the second half of this fight,
20:41the solid veteran can pull something out as he pulled out a solid jab right there
20:44to start round six.
20:46Doubling it up there, looking to throw the right hand.
20:48You know, pace, if the pace slows a little bit,
20:50you could see where Ronnie could get out there,
20:52use some of those veteran tack.
20:53They start to box a little bit from the outside as we're seeing here.
20:57He started to do it.
20:58You know, he landed the jab in the last round pretty often,
21:02and followed by the right hand.
21:03He's got to continue doing it.
21:05You know, it's not going to be easy, but you know, he has to.
21:10Here's a look at the jabs landed.
21:12Not very many of them through the first five rounds.
21:15Yeah, 23 jabs total.
21:16That's it.
21:16That's because they like to fight at this range.
21:18Exactly.
21:21That right uppercut has been consistent for Acosta.
21:24Robert, you called it immediately about the legs of Acosta.
21:27You know, they just, he stands very tall.
21:29He doesn't get a lot of bounce and vibrant out of the, you know,
21:32vibrant movement out of those legs.
21:33And I think that's cost him all night.
21:35It has.
21:36And look, the difference went, even, even though-
21:38That was a good punch.
21:40Ronda Rios is the older fighter, the veteran.
21:43Look at his, his feet are planted to the ground,
21:46where Acosta's is dancing around, you know, lifting one leg to the other.
21:49Happy feet, called the happy feet.
21:52Exactly.
21:52Can't get your foot, the footing set.
21:54He needs to work on that.
21:55He's got to bend those knees, drop his butt on the inside,
21:57because he likes to fight on the inside so much, but he skis a lot.
22:00Yes.
22:00Yes, for sure.
22:01Where's Mouthpiece out?
22:02Mouthpiece came out.
22:04Hard to tell who that was.
22:07I don't know if Ray Corona sees it, the referee.
22:09I know you're supposed to get a break, but if Ray Corona doesn't see,
22:12not even a break is going to get the Mouthpiece.
22:13I think that was Ronnie, Ronnie Rios' Mouthpiece is out.
22:22Opportunity for Acosta to take advantage.
22:30He lands another punch, almost stepping there on his Mouthpiece.
22:35Ray got the Mouthpiece now.
22:37I think he finally got a look at it.
22:38See, I think he saw it, but now it's the right opportunity.
22:40Happy for a big right hand, though, lands for Acosta.
22:43And that's what I meant about it.
22:44I think Ronnie's stunned a little.
22:46Yeah, no Mouthpiece, though.
22:47The Mouthpiece is a shocker, guys.
22:49But it's the range.
22:50At mid-range, Acosta has a lot more power.
22:52He gets the leverage on those shots.
22:57Not great timing for Acosta.
23:01No rinse off or anything, just right back to it.
23:0440 seconds left in the round.
23:05I feel like that's a pro box thing.
23:06None of our reps watch the Mouthpiece before they put it back in.
23:09I'd rather just put it back in.
23:10It's because the fights are so good that they don't want to put it in.
23:12Big right hand to Ronnie.
23:14Yeah, Acosta's corner didn't like that either.
23:19Nice combination.
23:20Uppercut, left hook there.
23:22Right back comes Rios with the left hand.
23:24And once again, we have a war.
23:28Neither guy wants to give an inch.
23:30Yeah, what jabs?
23:31That's why you got the low stats on the jabs.
23:33It's all this distance.
23:34We should have called this card phone booth.
23:38The phone booth in Thunder Studios.
24:01Great two-way action here.
24:02But again, most of it on the inside.
24:05You know, we had the Mouthpiece pull out for almost a minute, which helped Brian Acosta
24:10because he landed a big right hand.
24:11That was the shot right there along the ropes as he was backing Ronnie Rios up.
24:20Good round there to close round six for Brian Acosta.
24:23They start getting some body shots in.
24:25Come on.
24:35Through six, Chris.
24:38How do you have this one scored?
24:39I honestly haven't been keeping score since he's been enjoying the fight far too much.
24:44I think I would be leaning more towards Acosta right now.
24:47He's been busier.
24:48He's been able to back Rios up.
24:50And Rios has had his moments, landed some big shots himself.
24:52I think he actually hurt Acosta a few times.
24:56But the output and the relentless nature of the style that Acosta's bringing tonight
25:02is likely leading the day.
25:05Nice uppercut shot there by Rios.
25:07Then he walks the fighter back.
25:09Bit of a breather here.
25:11Round seven, good straight shot with the right hand again.
25:14So square.
25:14Got caught on his heels.
25:16A punch like that, which wasn't even that hard.
25:18Very eye-catching because of the footwork.
25:21Switching stances, being too square, legs too straight from Acosta.
25:27And Ronnie forgot that jab.
25:29He's not throwing it anymore.
25:32Yeah, he was having success at that mid-range with the one-two.
25:34He was.
25:35Oh, good body shot.
25:36Body shot with the left hand connects for Acosta.
25:39From the southpaw position.
25:43Ronnie, look in the hold.
25:46And then back straight up.
25:48Right into the corner.
25:50Not a good sign.
25:55Oh, Acosta making it physical, guys.
25:57Yeah, I think Ronnie's still feeling that body shot from a few minutes ago, a few moments ago.
26:03Ronnie doing a good job, taking advantage of the awkward footwork of Acosta there.
26:07Yeah, turning him around.
26:10And Ronnie's done that a few times this fight.
26:11Again, using that veteran craftiness.
26:13Good body shots there from Acosta.
26:14He's trying to dig.
26:19See, now Acosta's sitting down on his feet looking for power shots.
26:22Yeah, and Ronnie's throwing stay away from me punches more so than assertive punches.
26:26Yeah, Acosta's looking for the left to the body because it's been very effective.
26:29Yeah, and then Ronnie's just using punches to try to get away or trying to slow down Acosta's pressure and
26:33not really take control of the fight.
26:35There's opportunities, though, because Acosta's just walking in the front door completely square.
26:38I mean, that's why he just caught him with two jabs.
26:40They weren't hard jabs.
26:42They don't have to be because he's walking right into it.
26:46Acosta's so focused on looking for the left to the body that he's actually chasing him around
26:51to his, to his, to Ronnie's right instead of cutting the ring and starting with the right hook.
26:58Sometimes if you're real, though, instead of going backwards all the time,
27:00sometimes you step in and smother.
27:01You take away the forward momentum of the pressure fighter and make him restart.
27:05Acosta let him completely off the hook.
27:07Didn't throw any punches the last minute.
27:09Just looking for the body.
27:14People booing, tough crowd here.
27:16Nope.
27:16They don't want any clinches.
27:17That was a quick boo.
27:20Second clinch of the fight.
27:21First of the, first of the, of the night.
27:25I mean, they know it's a pro box show.
27:26Yeah, I guess so.
27:27It's in the promo.
27:28That last, that last fight.
27:29Yeah, no runners and holders.
27:30And then we're in reals.
27:32Oh, good body shot.
27:32Good body shot.
27:33Real side to the body.
27:34That was the right side.
27:38Oh.
27:39Oh.
27:39Ale, Ale, Ale.
27:41Ale.
27:42Nice fighter shots.
27:44Tired.
28:02I can't tell you, son.
28:05Good Lord is with us, son.
28:07Good Lord is with us, son.
28:13But just keep moving your head when you cover him and tap, okay?
28:17When you get in the hole.
28:18We're getting ready to start round eight.
28:19This one's scheduled for ten.
28:22Little flashes of brightness from Ronnie Rios, but not able to put it consistently together
28:27in a round that I can think of from bell to bell.
28:30No, and also that was the most dominant round for either fighter there.
28:35That last round for Brian Acosta, who visibly hurt Rios to the body.
28:42Yeah, I don't know how much Ronnie has left.
28:44He took a beating to the body in this last round.
28:46Rios!
28:47Rios!
28:48Rios!
28:49Rios!
28:49He's got three rounds to go.
28:53And once again, Acosta right to him.
28:55Meets you in the center of the ring.
28:57Push the pressure on.
28:58Backs up.
28:59Rios to the ropes.
29:03Strong combination to start round eight for Acosta.
29:07Yeah, Acosta, you can tell.
29:08Down to the body.
29:09It looks sharp here.
29:10His body language is stance.
29:11He's very, very heavy-footed now.
29:13He's just looking in power position.
29:15And he needs to stay like this, which is why he shouldn't switch southpaw.
29:18That's when he had his lapses in his defense.
29:20He looks very strong, or the strongest he can look in the orthodox stance.
29:25Yeah, he smells blood.
29:26He's walking down with more intensity now.
29:31Every clinch is a boo here, man.
29:33This is a tough crowd.
29:35For real, in his hometown, pretty much.
29:37Crazy.
29:38Santa Ana's not too far.
29:39I'm glad I never fought here, man.
29:43I like the occasional hold, you know what I'm saying?
29:45I mean, it's a veteran move.
29:47That's like, I mean, you got to give him credit when you start walking back.
29:50I mean, you didn't fight when you were 37, did you?
29:53Are you pretending before that?
29:5436, okay.
29:55Yeah, he's 36 right now.
29:56Yeah, my last fight, I was 37.
29:59I know you were not talking to me, because I had my last fight at 26.
30:02Yeah, I know.
30:04Robert, you weren't much of a hold on.
30:06You had a lot done.
30:07I did, but it was tough.
30:12Sorry.
30:12That's all right.
30:16Well, you've made yourself a hell of a career as a trainer.
30:20And a former world champion, too.
30:22Yeah, of course.
30:22I mean, I'm not dismissing that, but 26, call it quits.
30:26I mean, Gorge, you lost your title to Diego Corrales.
30:29It wasn't like somebody, some regular guy took your title, you know?
30:32Exactly.
30:33Hell of a fighter.
30:36Right now, stalking is Brian Acosta.
30:39He's in total control.
30:40The things that Acosta could actually do, look, right now, when he's going out from looking for the night guard,
30:44his legs are good, his football is getting hit, so it's not like he can't do it.
30:49It's a hard toe-heel step, too.
30:51It's a really heavy post.
30:58Nice combination there from Rios.
31:00There's a one-two down to the body, comes back with a jab.
31:08Rios is just going from pillar to post at this point.
31:13Landing good shots, but...
31:16Landing good shots, but still fighting off that back foot.
31:19Oh, good right hand there from Rios.
31:20Not right hand.
31:22But ate a right hand as well.
31:25Yeah, but Acosta just kept coming.
31:26He got hit with a good right hand, but just kept coming like he didn't even feel it.
31:34Just teeing off on Ronnie Rios in the corner is Acosta.
31:38Of course, he's throwing punches like he's hitting a heavy bag.
31:40He's just, he doesn't care what's coming back, loading up on everything.
31:45I wouldn't be surprised if Ray Corona doesn't take a walk maybe to the Rios corner.
31:50Yeah, the body language of Rios looking in a real tough spot.
31:59And even after our main event, there's a couple bonus bouts.
32:01You won't hear the three or four of us on the call, but Alberto Alvarez versus Eric Ruiz and Flavio
32:08Bargueno versus Tire Trivon Reed.
32:12Yeah, on YouTube, guys.
32:13On YouTube.
32:14There's some good shots landed by Ronnie Rios as Acosta was just walking in the front door.
32:20But then Rios, I mean, and then Acosta landed a good right hand in the end of that.
32:25But that was a round where Acosta was just stalking all round, coming forward.
32:29Didn't take a backward step, walking through shots.
32:33You guys post, post main event on YouTube.
32:36You guys will have some footage.
32:37Some extra action.
32:38A couple of, after the main event action, if you guys want to stick around.
32:42If you needed any more action today.
32:44Some bonus coverage, lots of fights on tonight.
32:48All right, the penultimate round, round nine here in this scheduled ten rounder.
32:57Ronnie Rios is going to need some big here to turn this fight around.
33:04That was a big right hand by Rios.
33:06I mean, maybe I need to say that three more times.
33:08Maybe he'd land some more shots like that, but...
33:10But it doesn't deter Acosta.
33:11He still keeps coming.
33:13Yeah, Rios landing big shots, but he's not strong enough to deter
33:16the all-out pressure of Acosta now.
33:19Acosta walking forward with no respect.
33:21That was another right hand that Rios landed.
33:24But yeah, Acosta's on the road right now.
33:26He, he, nothing's stopping him.
33:28And he actually met that shot with the right hand of his own.
33:31As he's got him right here in the blue corner.
33:33This is something though.
33:34To the body with the left hand, back up top with the right.
33:36Ooh, good uppercut.
33:37Nasty combination with an uppercut there for Acosta.
33:41Down to the body with the left hand.
33:46Ronnie's got to step around.
33:48And that's one thing about Acosta.
33:49If he's going to really progress in this sport,
33:52he's got to think about defense while he's being offensive.
33:55He completely shuts off and goes full offense mode.
34:00You can't do that with top flight world match fighters.
34:02Not at a higher level, absolutely.
34:07Back to South Pole for Acosta here.
34:09It's so square.
34:10I don't like it.
34:12Yeah.
34:13Especially closing the distance.
34:14He gets hit with a huge left hand.
34:16And again.
34:19Rios jab lands.
34:22And when Acosta is the left under is when Ronnie lands that jab,
34:25and the straight right hand too.
34:26Yep.
34:28That was a good straight left from Acosta.
34:32Rios is actually landing the cleaner shots this round.
34:37Acosta just completely given up on being defensive.
34:43A good combination there from Rios.
34:54Okay.
34:55We're going to make a mistake.
34:56We made a mistake earlier.
34:57It's not on YouTube.
34:57It's on social media, on Instagram.
34:59Go to our Pro Box Instagram page for after the main event action.
35:03Not on YouTube.
35:05We were given bad information.
35:07But we're giving you the right information now if you want to watch it.
35:10It's still free.
35:10And you have to.
35:11It's still free.
35:12And it's, and it's, and it's still, and it's still free.
35:15So guys, free action after the main event.
35:21Plenty of action here with Brian Acosta and Ronnie Rios in round number nine.
35:26Phone booth fight.
35:28Power shots all night long.
35:34Too many options, right?
35:35YouTube, Instagram, it gets confusing.
35:39Well, Brian E. Rios is running out of options right here as we get to round 10.
35:44The slickness from Acosta.
35:45Slip and slide every once in a while.
35:47He's having fun now.
35:48He's having fun.
35:49That's, that's too wrong.
35:52Bob Sandoz doesn't like it though.
35:53He doesn't like it.
35:54He's saying don't mess around.
35:56I'll, I'll censor it here.
35:57Don't mess around.
35:58Keep your hands up.
36:01I mean, it was actually a really good round for Ronnie Rios.
36:04He landed, Rios, he landed some really clean shots because Acosta just has completely given
36:08up on being defensive.
36:09He's in full blown Terminator stalk mode, throwing body shots, throwing both hands,
36:13coming in square, walking in the front door.
36:16But Rios able to find this home for some good shots, but the aggression of Acosta pinning
36:22Rios along the ropes and basically walking him around the ring for all of round nine.
36:26Yeah, he's really going to have to work on if he's going to continue to switch his defense
36:30when he's in that southpaw stance.
36:33He needs to stay switched on because we saw in that last round, he can be a little slick
36:37at times and he did show it other parts during the night.
36:41All right, the 10th and final round.
36:44Will this be the final round in the career of Ronnie Rios?
36:49He's going to need a knockout here to get the victory tonight because Ryan Acosta likely
36:55up on the cards, at least in our estimation here ringside.
36:59Yeah, I would be hard pressed to see it any other way, especially with a guy who's controlling
37:04the center of the ring, pushing forward all night long.
37:08And here's a look at the total punches landed round by round.
37:11184 punches for Acosta, 146.
37:15Zero in round seven?
37:17That's right, that's right.
37:18I don't think I fall asleep when he's pressing the buttons.
37:21I don't think that there was a zero power punch.
37:25That's Roy Jones of any pass.
37:29And a look at the power punches.
37:31Okay, these are power punches.
37:32Maybe no power punches.
37:33I don't know about that either.
37:34Even at close range.
37:35I mean, what kind of defense has been shown between these two guys that
37:38know that someone didn't get hit with a power shot, yeah.
37:44Especially Acosta, no?
37:45Yeah, right.
37:46Walking in the front door.
37:48Final two minutes of the fight.
37:49Good body shot there from Rios.
37:52Nice right hand there, landed from Acosta.
37:55Right back with three right hands.
37:57Good combination there for Rios.
37:59Low blow there by Acosta.
38:00That needs one to the body.
38:02He didn't like that.
38:03No, that was a pretty obvious low blow.
38:07Looks like Rios gave him one back.
38:09They don't even want Acosta to hold when he gets hit low.
38:13Yeah, this guy's rough.
38:18I think Acosta's done a really good job of turning this into an effort fight.
38:22And when you've got a nearly 10-year advantage, youth advantage.
38:26Ooh!
38:27Rick Aron had to slip that one, too.
38:36Straight back to the ropes.
38:37Those Rios.
38:38He looks to answer up top with the right hand.
38:41Both these guys came in condition, especially Brian Acosta,
38:44because he's thrown nothing but power punches all night long.
38:52Good combination as Rios tries to fight him off.
38:55Goes right back to the ropes, though.
38:58Back into the corner.
39:01Uppercut for Acosta.
39:03Left hook, right hook.
39:06Under 40 seconds left.
39:09Yeah, this is the range where I think Brian is most dangerous.
39:12When he has that little bit of in and out, steps in from mid-range with the long one-twos,
39:16which he's done very little tonight.
39:19But still fighting back the 37, 36-year-old veteran in Ronnie Rios.
39:29Wow, both guys actually slipped the shot there.
39:31Rolling underneath.
39:32Ooh, good uppercut by Rios on the inside as Acosta jumps forward.
39:38Beautiful right hand.
39:40A punctuation mark, if you will, for Brian Acosta tonight.
40:00High contact fight, you know, these guys found each other right away
40:04and poured on the pressure, especially from Brian Acosta all night long.
40:07Ronnie Rios, gutsy as always.
40:11Let's give a shout out to the matchmaker because he's doing a great job.
40:15Yeah, good fight shows that we've had nine great fights.
40:19We're on a roll here, Probox.
40:20Good, good, good, good fun fights.
40:25Yeah, they received one of those big right hands at mid-distance,
40:28which I said there was too few and far between,
40:30but that was a shot that looked like that had Rios hurt a few rounds ago.
40:34But gutsy as always, Rios stayed true to being tough and landing those good shots
40:39as Acosta really just was coming forward looking to finish the fight,
40:43but completely gave up on defense, which allowed Rios to land some good clean shots.
40:47But it was relentless pressure from Acosta really all night long,
40:52walking through the shots, showing a pretty durable chin,
40:55getting hit with big shots like that.
40:57But the constant pressure would be hard to see the judges go the other way.
41:05And from what you've seen tonight, Robert, from Ronnie Rios,
41:08where do you think that, you know, where do you think he should go from here?
41:11I was just thinking about it, but he's still a good tester for any young fighter.
41:16You know, Acosta is young, fresh, and he was too much for Ronnie,
41:19but I think Ronnie Rios can still give any young talent fighter a great fight and a good test.
41:26Especially if he can maybe roll camp into camp versus these, like, long stretches.
41:30Yeah, he had been out for over a year, 17 months.
41:33So now if he comes back in a few months to test somebody, I think he put up a good
41:37fight.
41:43All right, Lupe Cutteros is standing by with the decision. Lupe?
