00:00Rene, Malik, we're on the ruse in the dressing room.
00:03Both of you guys know what I expect out of you.
00:05A good, solid, clean fight for the WBC Latino Continental title.
00:09I'm going to let them work to here.
00:10You can work to here.
00:12Touch them up.
00:12Let's go to work.
00:16All right, our co-main event of the evening.
00:18This one's scheduled for 10 rounds.
00:21The WBC Continental Latino Lightweight Championship on the line.
00:27Christina Poncher, Chris Algieri, Pali Malanaji, and Robert Garcia here with you.
00:32A ton of World Championship experience on the mic here with Pro Box TV for our co-main event.
00:40Right away, Malik Montgomery in the black, or excuse me, in the green trunks with the gold trim.
00:45Green and black for Tejas Heron.
00:48You can see a good snappy jab and that hook off the jab from Malik Montgomery here early on.
00:52Looking very, very sharp.
00:54You're finishing with the left hand, starting with the left hand.
00:57Painting.
00:57He did tell us he can fight Gidon toe-to-toe, but he'd rather box him than try to work
01:03on that.
01:04But let's see if Gidon can force him into a slugfest.
01:06What we've seen from Gidon in the past, I don't think you ever want to fight that guy toe-to
01:10-toe.
01:10He's a fire hydrant.
01:12He stands in front of you, bangs his whole hand.
01:13Malik never mind the toe-to-to-toe fight himself.
01:15That's the problem.
01:16It's less than a minute in, and he's doing exactly what he said he didn't want to do.
01:19That's what I thought wasn't going to happen, and it happened the first 10 seconds right away.
01:25Right to it.
01:25Montgomery has the height, the reach, and he could use it very comfortably, but no, he went in there right
01:32away.
01:33Coach, there's a reason his nickname is Mayhem.
01:36Yeah, exactly.
01:37Mayhem doesn't box.
01:38No, he doesn't fight.
01:39But he can box.
01:40He can box.
01:41But he's back on the jab.
01:42Look how sharp those shots were right there.
01:44So far in round one, he's mixed it inside and outside.
01:46So, you know, maybe he's trying to confuse Gidon a little bit.
01:49You know, you get Gidon thinking, okay, we're going to slug, and then all of a sudden you kick it
01:52back to the outside and confuse him.
01:53And when you relax a little bit, you take it back to the inside.
01:56There could be smart decision-making here from Mayhem, and he's had a good round so far.
02:01He's landing some really good shots.
02:02That's the short right hand on the inside there from Montgomery, then to the body with the left hand.
02:07Man, I can never get over that Jordan White fight last time out from Gidon, who was just ripping body
02:12shots for 10 straight rounds.
02:15Bone-crunching shots.
02:16Got it out that 10-round unanimous decision back in September.
02:20In an opponent that Montgomery was supposed to actually fight, he was training to fight Jordan White.
02:27Jordan White, a pro box TV fighter, very sharp, good puncher, good boxing skills.
02:31But Gidon was dominant that night, was able to drop him with a right hand in round five,
02:36but dominated the fight with left hooks to the body.
02:38White has been back since, got a win.
02:40Yep.
02:40And he's back on the winning track.
02:42Who knows, maybe he fights the winner of this, either a rematch with Gidon, or possibly does get the fight
02:46with Montgomery.
02:47Paulie Malignaggi, the matchmaker.
02:49Yeah, good fights, man.
02:51Matching good fighters together, you know, that's what we want to do, is entertain the fans.
02:54Good uppercut attempt there by Gidon.
02:56This is going to be a high-tontact fight.
02:58If this is round one already, these guys are going to be able to touch each other this much,
03:03it's going to be fun for as long as it lasts.
03:04Both these guys can punch.
03:05They're not having trouble finding each other.
03:07At all.
03:08From Montgomery, a little sharp counter right hand.
03:10Montgomery, a little sharper here at this range.
03:12Again, he's got the options, but Gidon will try to keep it close.
03:17Gidon has been in camp with Navarrete.
03:20Oh, big right hand from Montgomery.
03:22Two of them went right back to it, Chris.
03:24Not a little up, that uppercut.
03:25Good luck, that left hook hurts.
03:27From Giron as these two battle to the battle.
03:29Of course, what else did we expect?
03:31Battle!
03:32Down!
03:34That counts.
03:36Count it.
03:37Yep.
03:38Can't fight like that against Gidon, man.
03:40Man, this guy's tricky.
03:44That counts.
03:45Knocked down, scored.
03:47No?
04:06Well, what a finish to round one.
04:08These guys, like I said, high contact fight.
04:10Weren't having trouble finding each other.
04:12But it was the left hand of Rene Tellez-Garon that caused a flash knockdown at the end of the
04:18round.
04:18Actually, a little more than a flash.
04:20It was a good, solid shot.
04:21Right before the bell, ref did count.
04:23It was an official knockdown.
04:25Here it is.
04:26Left hook.
04:28Drops Montgomery like a ton of bricks right before the bell.
04:32And you know what?
04:32It was a good round.
04:33Montgomery had one.
04:34Yep.
04:35But certain choices of the way you don't want the fight to evolve were starting to be made by Montgomery.
04:42You started to accept that close-in battle against Gidon.
04:46And this is the kind of thing that, especially against Mexican fighters, once you accept that battle,
04:49it's hard to pull back away from it and start boxing.
04:52He started the round so well.
04:54That's why he got a little confident, thinking I could still do it.
04:57And look, he got caught last second before the bell rank and went down.
05:01And that was a round that he was doing well.
05:04I've said it against Mexican fighters.
05:06In my experience, man, you just let sleeping dogs lie.
05:09If you start accepting that enclosed battle, you lose the option to go back to boxing
05:14because now they're going to up their pace and they get excited about that toe-to-toe fight, coach.
05:21And then Gidon's excited about it.
05:23And Montgomery's like, all right, we're just going to fight like this.
05:25It's too late.
05:26You can't keep him off of now.
05:28Gidon is awake.
05:29Especially when he got dropped in the last second of the round.
05:32He's only got a minute to recover.
05:34He's hurt.
05:35He's hurt.
05:37That left toe keeps landing.
05:39See, now you don't have the option to box.
05:40I'm telling you.
05:40You see how Gidon just walks him down?
05:42Yeah, I'm telling you.
05:42One foot in front of the other.
05:44Now you don't have the option to box anymore because now the Mexican fighter
05:48realizes the physicality of the fight is where we're going.
05:51And he gets excited.
05:51He smells blood.
05:52Gidon loves fights like this.
05:54Yeah.
05:55And he's been in a ton of them.
05:56He's seen every sort of opponent that there is.
06:00He's only 27 years old.
06:01He's been 12 like a handful of times.
06:03He's fought a very, very good fight.
06:04He fought Floyd Schoenfeld.
06:05Schofield.
06:06Schofield, who he dropped in the 11th round, by the way.
06:09Yes, he did.
06:10And to your point, champ, about letting sleeping dogs lie when he's fighting Mexican fighters,
06:13he fought Giovanni Cabrera, who boxed him from the outside.
06:15Made it a relatively easy fight.
06:17He's also fought Carlos Balderas.
06:19That was his win where he came to, you know, where he got the attention from the boxing world.
06:25Put on the map, yeah.
06:26Carlos Balderas, yeah.
06:29To the body, it's a little bit low as the referee warns him to keep him up a little bit.
06:33But Gidon goes right back to him with the left hand.
06:36Good counter left that Montgomery leaned into.
06:39Montgomery fighting lefty this round.
06:42Trying to get away from that elite body shot.
06:44You see him keeping that right elbow real tough.
06:48Which I don't know why you go southpaw.
06:50Puts that liver side in front.
06:54Good work on the inside, though, for Montgomery.
06:56Lands some good uppercuts and a right hook.
06:59That's it.
06:59And that's because he's pushing Gidon back against the ropes.
07:06And that's where Gidon has less power.
07:08Maybe if I fire with fire, go to the body of Gidon and try to make him uncomfortable.
07:12Good shots here by Montgomery.
07:15Montgomery bringing the mayhem.
07:17One thing about guys, when they switch sides, a lot of times their offense is still good, but not the
07:20defense.
07:22This range, I guess, is what's the matter.
07:24Keep working the body.
07:26And Montgomery's corner is saying right there.
07:27There you go.
07:28This is exactly where they want Montgomery to fight.
07:30They're not telling him to get back to the stick.
07:31They want it forehead-to-forehead, banging these body shots and that uppercut.
07:35We're seeing the heavy-handedness of Montgomery.
07:38He's got 18 KOs and 20 wins.
07:39He looks like he punches hard.
07:42But Gidon's taking the punch as well so far.
07:45Oh, good right hook again.
07:47Montgomery adjusting here at the second half of his run.
07:52Fighting fire with fire.
07:54A little stare down back to the corner.
07:59Good fight.
08:00Remember, I said from the open, this is the co-main event, but could easily be a main event type
08:03fight.
08:04Oh, yeah.
08:05We said that from the open.
08:07On another card, this absolutely could have been the headliner.
08:10It's starting to devolve into a real rugged fight here.
08:14And we're only two rounds in.
08:16Yeah.
08:18Okay, we see some of that action.
08:20At first, Gidon was coming out real strong early in the round, but then there was a nice adjustment made
08:24by Montgomery to push Gidon back and keep him against the ropes.
08:28Like you said, Coach, if he was pinning Gidon against the ropes, keeping him on his heels, it took some
08:32of the power away from Tellez, and he was able to land some of those great shots.
08:37If you see Tellez, Gidon is laying his back on the ropes.
08:40With that, he doesn't have the power because he doesn't have the boxing stance.
08:43The leverage.
08:44He's taking it with the power.
08:45Yeah, definitely.
08:46But I think that's by design from Montgomery.
08:49Montgomery spun him around and kept him there, kept his body right on him.
08:52It was a good adjustment in that last round.
08:54Let's see if Montgomery can take it back there.
08:56I think the option to box Gidon is out.
08:59Montgomery may have to make it an inside fight and push Gidon back.
09:05He did a good job getting his head off the line there and then landing a couple good shots with
09:08the right hand.
09:09There's another one.
09:09You see the skills and the talent of Montgomery.
09:13He's looking real sharp.
09:14Started real sharp in the first round as well.
09:17Ooh, combinations.
09:20I mean, he's solid when Gidon's not punching back.
09:24Yeah, I mean, a lot of guys look good on heavy bags.
09:27Yeah, you keep active.
09:29You keep Gidon from punching back.
09:30The problem is Gidon is going to keep coming forward in between punches.
09:33So those breathers you need in between those combinations become more and more, become less and less possible.
09:39But I mean, this is about 30 seconds that has gone by that Gidon has not thrown a punch.
09:44So a little slower pace for him to start this round gives Montgomery time to work.
09:49There's so many opportunities to take advantage of the footwork of Gidon.
09:52He brings back foot to front foot constantly.
09:54You could hit and move, hit and move, step around, and make it a relatively easy fight.
09:57But Montgomery is not allowing that.
10:00He's allowing him to just walk in the front door and go into deep exchanges.
10:07And also, we mentioned the level of fighter that Gidon has been in with.
10:11Never been stopped.
10:13Never been stopped fighting all those top flight guys.
10:17So he's saying Montgomery's power may not make a big difference here?
10:20Yeah, because it's all relative, right?
10:21They've got great power, but the other guy's got a great chin.
10:28Down to the body with the left hand forward, Gidon.
10:30Counter right hook there from Montgomery.
10:31I think Montgomery has to counter those body shots if Gidon.
10:33You got it like that again.
10:35You can't counter the back of his own.
10:37Nasty left hook from Montgomery on the inside.
10:40Because Gidon loves to throw to the body.
10:41You got to make him less excited to do that.
10:43And the way you do that is you make him pay every time he throws a body shot.
10:46These guys are not missing anything.
10:48Good body shot by Gidon.
10:49Backs Montgomery straight up.
10:51He felt that one.
10:51He felt that one.
10:52Even though he fired back, he still felt it.
10:54Yeah.
10:54And that's the thing.
10:55You got to keep that elbow tight and maybe catch and shoot with a little short uppercut.
10:59Just prep for that body shot.
11:01The thing about Gidon is he also throws uppercuts up the middle with the left hand.
11:03Yeah, we set it up.
11:04Canelo.
11:04So it's hard to just keep your right side blocked because then you're opening yourself
11:10with the uppercut on the inside.
11:11One thing I like about Gidon is he sets up that uppercut to go to the body.
11:15That's beautiful.
11:16I love teaching my guys that.
11:17But it's something natural.
11:18Something that you don't teach.
11:19Something that it just comes natural.
11:21And it makes it hard to anticipate because it's the same hand.
11:23You can only block one.
11:25So you have to anticipate one.
11:26Yes.
11:27Oh, look at this beautiful uppercut.
11:28It also helps generate so much leverage on that left hook after the uppercut.
11:31Yeah, here's the blood from Montgomery's nose.
11:32Yeah, from those uppercuts.
11:35Gidon's looking for that left hook to the body again.
11:38There.
11:38Boom!
11:39Oh!
11:39There it is.
11:40Beautiful combination.
11:41And then step to the side after.
11:45You know, this started out as a really good round for Montgomery,
11:47but Gidon finishing real strong here.
12:24Three rounds in the books.
12:27A lot of action here.
12:29It was started well for Montgomery, but it's Gidon that finished.
12:33Yeah, a lot of it was off the strength of those body shots,
12:35using that uppercut, left hook to the body, like Coach was saying.
12:38He rips that right uppercut up the middle,
12:40which bloodied the nose of Montgomery.
12:42And then he comes right back down to the body with that left hook to the liver.
12:45You saw the elbow slide in real quick for Montgomery.
12:47That's how you know he felt it.
12:53Let's see if Gidon gets off to a faster start here than he did in round three.
12:57Just as a reminder, Montgomery was down in round one.
13:01Via the left hook to the chin.
13:08Montgomery having his best work when he's smothering on the inside
13:10and ripping that left hook upstairs.
13:16He's effective doing that, but, you know, can't do it every second of the fight.
13:22So there's times where Gidon throws those...
13:25Look at that, again, uppercut with Baryshire.
13:27And Montgomery has to take...
13:30He's forced to take that little step back or turn him
13:32because it's going to be impossible to just hang in there.
13:35There's been a little adjustment by Gidon.
13:36He's stepping around a little.
13:41Oh, nice rider.
13:42Yes.
13:43Montgomery wants to throw those little combinations on the inside,
13:45but the more body shots he takes, the less sting he's going to have on those combinations.
13:49And Pauly right on cue was Gidon that delivered a left to the body.
13:53Gidon is so sneaky.
13:54He loves to shoot that right uppercut and the left hook to the body on the inside.
13:58Yeah, because what it does is it makes your guard come to the middle
14:00to want to block the uppercuts.
14:02And then it opens up the flanks on the sides for the body shots.
14:05Good hook there from the Gidon.
14:08So that experience comes in.
14:11Hey, Gidon, you can tell he's so comfortable on the inside.
14:13He's just waiting, biding his time, looking for the opening,
14:16whether it's the right uppercut, the left hook upstairs, the left hook downstairs.
14:20Always going back down there, but that's the shot he wants.
14:23See some blood.
14:25Ooh.
14:26Montgomery.
14:27On the side of the face of Gidon.
14:29I don't know if it's from the nose of Montgomery or if there's a cut.
14:34Oh.
14:36Okay, educated left hand on the inside.
14:38Wouldn't get on, I'll tell you.
14:39So short.
14:40Montgomery trying to put those shoe shine combinations together.
14:43That worked well for him early, but a little arm weary after all those body shots.
14:47It's interesting, Christina, you were talking about on the tail of the tape,
14:50the reach difference, how obvious it was.
14:53Having short arms is a benefit on the inside, and we're seeing that with Gidon.
14:56He's able to find home for these short shots like that one.
15:00Well, then that's why I said that Montgomery doesn't use that reach advantage,
15:04because he fights a lot of the time like this,
15:05which is what he said he didn't want to do tonight when we spoke with him yesterday.
15:10I'll tell you, the Mexican doesn't give you the option once you oblige the war.
15:13I don't think, I think that ship has sailed for Montgomery being able to box this fight.
15:17It seemed like Montgomery had too much success early on, and it went right to being in the pocket.
15:25He had a good first round until he got dropped, and it's been, basically, devolved into a war ever since.
15:32Landed a right hand, though, did Montgomery on the inside.
15:36Pro box TV fights, man, here we go again.
15:38I mean, forehead to forehead, really.
15:40Yeah, phone booth, you don't even need a ring, you just put them in these two in a phone booth.
15:47Oh!
15:48Big shot there, landed.
15:49That was so much of the first round.
15:51And almost out the belt.
15:53He just didn't go down this time.
15:54Except Montgomery stayed up.
16:07Coach, have any of your guys fought Rene Tellez-Garón?
16:10No, never.
16:11Well, Carlsbad did a stretch with us now, but not when they fought.
16:15I don't know, not when they fought.
16:16Who has joined behind us.
16:19Carlos is here.
16:19That's right, he did.
16:20He did come by.
16:20Yeah, he came by.
16:21Ramon Caninas is here.
16:22I saw him as well.
16:23Right over there.
16:27Yeah, Guarón is one of those guys that you try to avoid.
16:31You got a young prostrate, you avoid him.
16:33He's got experience, he's tricky.
16:35Yeah.
16:36He has really good head movement on the inside, too.
16:39Yeah, you got to be, he's a world-class guy.
16:43You don't want to risk a prospect with this kind of fighter.
16:47And Guarón will fight anybody.
16:49He's probably a matchmaker's dream.
16:56They do a little maintenance in the red corner.
17:02It's causing a slight delay here.
17:05Sometimes it's the, sometimes it's the, too much water in the corner.
17:10You owe too much ice in the corner trick.
17:11Give you a little bit of a break.
17:12They actually had ice.
17:14And California doesn't allow it to have loose ice in the corners.
17:24Back and forth they go.
17:26It's changing short inside shots to the body.
17:29Uppercut hooks upstairs.
17:30A little shoulder work.
17:32Giving himself a bit of space to land that right hand right there is Montgomery.
17:38Uppercut from Guarón.
17:40Montgomery showing some good durability these last few rounds.
17:42Taking these shots well.
17:43Especially to the head.
17:45But how many can you take?
17:48If Montgomery threw that right uppercut with a body shot like Guarón does, he'd be pretty effective.
17:54Because it's wide open for him to throw that left to the body.
17:56A little low shot there.
17:57Behind that elbow.
18:05Oh.
18:06Good overhand shot.
18:06Terry has had some good success with that overhand right as well.
18:09And not only does he use the overhand right as a good landing punch, but he uses that sometimes to
18:13set up the body shot as well.
18:14Because he comes, he follows through and he puts him in position to throw a left hook to the body
18:17or the left uppercut.
18:19That right uppercut seems like it's so hard to get away from.
18:22And the head movement.
18:23You see that left hook, you know, as Guarón's pulling to his, stepping to his right and throws that short
18:30left hook very effective.
18:31That's a tricky punch that nobody expects.
18:35Very interesting copy box numbers here.
18:37Actually has Montgomery way ahead.
18:4020, 20, 20 shots ahead of, of Guarón.
18:43But, I mean, it's the effectiveness of the shots, not just how many you land.
18:53There's that step around.
18:59See right there.
19:00He kind of steps to his, to his right and there and throws that short hook.
19:03And it's landing every time he does it.
19:07You know, when a lot of the fight, too, is fought in these close quarters with their back, like, different
19:11judges see different shots that are landing from the other one.
19:14Like, even those copy box numbers, it doesn't seem like he, Montgomery's landed that many more power shots.
19:18But, depending on why, because they fought so, because they fought so in close quarters, it's kind of hard to
19:24see.
19:24They don't lend you to clear shots because everything's so compact.
19:28And so you get a head snapping shot like that.
19:31Yeah, it's one.
19:33Ooh, good body shot there by Montgomery on the inside.
19:37Also, I like how, how Guarón will also roll under some of those shots.
19:41His head movement is nice.
19:43And he brings momentum with the counter shot from it, too.
19:48I also want to give credit to Montgomery.
19:50He's doing good, pushing him back and pushing back, landing some good combinations, also.
19:54Maybe the best punches are being landed by Guarón, but Montgomery's landing a lot of combinations.
20:00Montgomery has to fight like this, though.
20:02Does he have the energy to do it, though?
20:03Yeah.
20:40He's doing the same thing.
20:42All right, five rounds in the books of the scheduled 10-rounder.
20:46Chris, what do you think?
20:48I think it's, you know, it's been competitive.
20:50Montgomery has had spots, but just not enough to get these rounds in the books because of shots like that.
20:58You know, you've seen, you know, the knockdown on the first round went around that.
21:02Montgomery was looking really good.
21:04And then some of these body shots that we've seen have actually had an effect on Montgomery.
21:10Done some really good work in between, landing a ton of shots.
21:13Does his best work when he's got Guarón's back against the ropes.
21:17But the more effective shots have been landed by Guarón.
21:21And he starts with a right hand there.
21:23Yeah, a straight right hand.
21:24Montgomery looks to land a flurry of punches that doesn't even back Guarón up at all.
21:29Would love to see it.
21:30Just a little bit of jabbing from Montgomery.
21:33The taller, more athletic guy who has options is choosing the fight entirely on the inside.
21:39Yeah, but fighting like that on the inside, body to body, where can he throw that jab?
21:43Well, that's what I mean, make some space.
21:45If he started off, you know, San Jose, you know, made himself some space to throw that jab,
21:49he'd probably be very effective.
21:50But I think against somebody like Guarón, you can't do that because, you know,
21:56you know that there's counters, there's body shots that are going to come without you seeing.
21:59The way he's doing right now, Montgomery, it's been successful.
22:03Maybe not landing the best shots.
22:05Maybe Guarón's landing harder punches.
22:08And at the end, they'll do more damage.
22:11But so far, it's working for Montgomery.
22:15Yeah, it's smothering some of the power of Guarón.
22:19So they haven't been...
22:21That's beautiful.
22:22Maybe work that up.
22:23Nice shot there by Guarón.
22:25But yeah, Montgomery getting his way in there.
22:28You may break down Guarón a little bit as well if you stay stubborn like this.
22:31He got his lick back right there.
22:32Yeah, because Guarón is not as active as he was either, you know, a couple of rounds ago.
22:38Man, the thudding shots on the inside from both these guys, man.
22:43Right back to the body as he turns into it with the left hook.
22:46He got away from that the last three rounds, Guarón.
22:47He wasn't as effective to the body.
22:49That's what I'm saying.
22:50It was a couple of rounds.
22:51He's beating the crap out of Montgomery, you know, which is why I didn't understand those combi box numbers.
22:54But now, you know, Montgomery is actually starting to turn the tide, the physical tide a little bit.
22:59Guarón still wants to be that guy, but he's not as active himself.
23:06Ebbs him close to a fight like this, right?
23:07I think we got to check a 23andMe on Montgomery.
23:09He might have some Mexican in him.
23:10With him, he likes to fight, man.
23:12Well, I did ask him yesterday if he's got any mix.
23:16Told us he's got a little bit of Indian, Native American Indian, yeah.
23:19But he's had his great-grandma, so he didn't have any pictures.
23:25That's another warrior culture.
23:27He likes to fight, so.
23:29Oh, that body shot again.
23:31I liked how he came out in round one.
23:32He had a good round until he got dropped because he boxed a little bit.
23:36He stayed inside a little bit.
23:37It looked like it was going to be a little bit of a confusing game plan for Guarón.
23:40But once he got dropped, it's like the ceiling came down on him, and he was like, all right, let's
23:47go to war.
23:47And it's been a fight ever since.
23:49And honestly, Guarón was starting to beat him up for a couple of rounds.
23:52But now Montgomery is starting to make it uncomfortable, though.
23:55Guarón's still active.
23:57And now that Guarón slowed down and broke the body shot.
24:00Body shot.
24:01Oh.
24:03Man, I was going to say that jab would be more effective if we threw more jab.
24:07But look at that.
24:08Nice body shot.
24:14Down for the second time in the fight.
24:17And again, at the bell, at the end of a round, Malik Montgomery suffers the second knockdown courtesy of a
24:25body shot from Thélez Guarón.
24:27And again, the second time it happens where he'd had a good round.
24:30Yeah.
24:30Three-point swing.
24:31I mean, he goes on round one.
24:33And that's past round.
24:34Goes from a 10-9 round from Montgomery to a 10-8 round from Guarón.
24:37It's literally a three-point swing both times has happened.
24:41Such a good point because, yeah, he was pretty big.
24:42I thought he was a big round.
24:43Yeah.
24:44First round, he looked great.
24:46We're going to see.
24:46That combination he's been using all night long.
24:49Yeah, that shot that you love, Robert.
24:51He's all smiling, all big when he sees that combination.
24:53That's over.
24:54It's over.
24:54It's over.
24:55It's over.
24:57You know what a shame is?
24:58Montgomery's a good fighter.
24:59Yeah.
25:00He's going to be three losses in a row.
25:01Now, you know, where do you go?
25:02You ask where you go from here.
25:03Such a tough business because this guy, not only is he a good fighter, he entertains.
25:07He don't entertains.
25:08He's a guy you want to see over and over again.
25:10But, man.
25:13Would you watch Montgomery and Jordan White still?
25:15I would.
25:16Absolutely.
25:16I would.
25:16Absolutely.
25:17I mean, I'd watch it next.
25:17I wanted to still watch more of this fight.
25:19I didn't think that, you know, by any means he was going to be out of the fight.
25:22He's doing well, but then he gets it knocked out of him.
25:25And it had to happen twice.
25:26It's psychological, too.
25:27It's not just physical.
25:28Again, three-point swing.
25:29It's so debilitating.
25:30I also think they were smart because, just like you said, those three-point swings are
25:33happens twice.
25:34He really wasn't in the fight on the scorecards, as I was concerned.
25:37Because every time he got close to winning a round, Jordan would land one more shot.
25:42That comes from experience.
25:43The high-level fights that Jordan has been in, he knows how to win rounds.
25:46He was doing the damage.
25:47When you're that late in a fight, you're hurt to the body.
25:49It's not going to get better from here on out.
25:51And didn't show any ability to actually hurt Jordan, you know, while they fought in the
25:55phone booth the entire time.
25:56So, I understand the stoppage.
25:58But, again, to your point, Jam, it's a real shame because Montgomery can really fight.
26:01And that was a good showing.
26:03I think he just chose the wrong game plan too soon.
26:06Yeah.
26:07Because that first round, he was snapping that jab, hooking off the jab, landing almost
26:11at will.
26:11Really racking up numbers in that first round.
26:14And then it just degraded into a phone booth fight as soon as he got dropped at the very
26:18end of that first round.
26:19Yeah, that's now three consecutive losses.
26:22Jeremy Hill, Joshua Pagan, and now tonight to Rene Tellez-Giron, who continues to show
26:30different layers of his game, different types of opponents.
26:33Getting another win tonight against a tough opponent in Malik Montgomery for his 23rd win
26:42as a pro.
26:43Well, we're still going to make this one official.
26:45But at the end of round six there, I mean, just dropping him for the second time in the
26:48fight down in one, down in six.
26:50Malik Montgomery's corner said they'd seen enough.
27:01Good entertaining scrap, though.
27:02Very, very good entertaining fight.
27:05Well, and Giron right now is ranked 12, I think, by the WBO.
27:08He's not ranked by the other three sanctioning bodies.
27:11But if he keeps putting on performances like this, I have a feeling that's going to change.
27:14Yeah, I think he's going to be in line for a big fight.
27:17And he's just 27 years old.
27:18He's got time.
27:20Even though he has 27, there's now 28 professional fights.
27:23Like, it's time.
27:26He very well could have been on the contender portion.
27:29You know, or is on the contender portion of this series.
27:32Oh, he's going to be one of those guys that moves up, gets, you know, gets the call to
27:35the big show.
27:39You know, early on, Montgomery was looking really sharp, fighting out mid-range and on
27:42the outside, jabbing, hooking up the jab.
27:44But it degraded into a firefight right away.
27:48Montgomery got a little too happy with the success he was having.
27:51And Giron was able to get in some really good shots, especially with those left hands.
27:55And was able to cause a flash knockdown in the first round.
27:58And eventually broke his man down, getting the stoppage at the end of the sixth round
28:02with a knockdown right before the bell once again.
28:05But this time, it was to the body.
28:12Yeah, those short shots on the inside, the uppercut, the left hook, beautiful.
28:15Found a home all night.
28:17And again, after the second knockdown, Montgomery's corner had seen enough of those kind of shots.
28:22It was a deep hole to have to dig himself out of.
28:25And they're waiting in the center of the ring to make this one official.
28:30Yeah, very easily could have been a main event.
28:32Very, very good fight with two good fighters.
28:39All right, Lupe Contreras, take it away.
28:41Ladies and gentlemen, inside the Pro Box TV ring, upon the conclusion of round number six,
28:46the blue corner, informs referee Gerard White they no longer wish to continue,
28:50forcing him to stop this contest before the start of round number seven.
28:54Damas y caballeros, después de la conclusión del sexto episodio,
28:58la esquina azul abandona el combate,
28:59y el referee Gerard White para la contienda antes del inicio del séptimo asalto,
29:04declarando el vencedor por knockout, declaring the winner by way of KO.
29:07And now, WBC Continental Latino Lightweight Champion,
29:13de Querétaro, México, El Bravo, René Tellez-Giron.
29:26René Tellez-Giron, now 23.
29:2923.
