00:01:08The Animal Discovery Institute is the world's leading nonprofit organization specializing
00:01:13in the protection of wild animals.
00:01:15Here in our headquarters in San Diego, we manage over 200 sanctuaries around the world.
00:01:20As compliance and outreach manager, I'm responsible for ensuring our sanctuaries meet our highest
00:01:25expectations and standards, providing care, educating the public, and supporting the scientific
00:01:30community.
00:01:31What I lack in practical experience, I more than make up for with passion, enthusiasm,
00:01:37and an unmatched knowledge of our protocols.
00:01:39And that is why I am the best candidate for the general manager position at the Polar
00:01:45Bears Discovery Center in Alaska.
00:01:54Tilly Monterey, you are something else, you know that?
00:01:58So glad you put yourself forward to this position.
00:02:01Great presentation.
00:02:03And you, you are our number one compliance manager.
00:02:08No one writes compliance reports as thoroughly as you do.
00:02:11And I personally would love nothing more than to see you thriving in a position like this.
00:02:18Why do I feel like there's a but coming?
00:02:20Ugh.
00:02:22We need someone with relevant field experience.
00:02:27Running a Polar Bear sanctuary comes with real challenges.
00:02:32These are wild animals.
00:02:33Tilly, I'm sorry.
00:02:35We need someone with appropriate experience.
00:02:39With all due respect, Mac, how am I supposed to get field experience when you have me stuck
00:02:44behind a desk?
00:02:45Tilly.
00:02:46I know all the processes inside and out, and with my background in community outreach
00:02:50and event planning, I could theoretically manage a sanctuary tomorrow.
00:02:54Theoretically, you could.
00:02:56Keep volunteering at the local facility, keep getting the experience.
00:03:01A local facility is a squirrel sanctuary, Mac.
00:03:04I mean, squirrels look great and all, but it's not really the kind of field experience
00:03:07you're looking for.
00:03:08I mean, come on.
00:03:10Tilly.
00:03:10Tilly.
00:03:11Please.
00:03:13Patience.
00:03:14The right opportunity shall find you.
00:03:18Now, Ben, you said you had some concerns about that facility in Australia.
00:03:22Yes, I do.
00:03:26Crystal Bay Penguin Sanctuary is a facility for Little Blue Penguins on Australia's east coast.
00:03:31Done some good work in the past, but their fundraising efforts are falling short.
00:03:35I previously brought up my own concerns with Crystal Bay, and without the support of the
00:03:40local council and community, some sanctuaries find their budgets getting tighter and tighter.
00:03:48Okay, everyone, solutions.
00:03:51It might be time to shut it down.
00:03:53What about the penguins?
00:03:55There's a state-of-the-art facility in New Zealand.
00:03:56We can use that to relocate the penguins that aren't ready to be released into the wild yet.
00:04:00No, no, no.
00:04:01Shutting down a facility is absolute last resort.
00:04:03Let me help.
00:04:04You said if the right opportunity came up, then this is it, Mac.
00:04:08Let me go down there and see if I can get the local and scientific communities engaged.
00:04:11I mean, if Crystal Bay could be high-profile once, it can be again, right?
00:04:16I've already gone through the numbers on this one, Mac.
00:04:18Ben.
00:04:25Penguins.
00:04:26Huh?
00:04:26Yeah.
00:04:27You know the birds that can't fly.
00:04:29Did you take pickles outside?
00:04:32Yeah, yeah, I know.
00:04:32They, uh, they eat fish and they live in Antarctica.
00:04:35They always look like they're on their way to prom.
00:04:37Mm-hmm.
00:04:37Why are we talking about penguins?
00:04:39Because they live in Australia and they're itty-bitty.
00:04:43Oh.
00:04:44Is Australia the one with the crocodiles or the snakes?
00:04:47Oh, I think they have both.
00:04:48Anyway, Mac is letting me go down there to help with the penguin sanctuary.
00:04:52Mason!
00:04:53Mason!
00:04:53Put that down!
00:04:54Put that down!
00:04:57Sorry, honey.
00:04:58So you're going to Australia and leaving me here with my mother-in-law.
00:05:02I thought that was free babysitting.
00:05:04Where's Bruce?
00:05:04Ah, root canal.
00:05:06Another one?
00:05:07Yeah, well, between his deadlines at work and Harper's toilet training, you know, I think
00:05:12he's actually enjoying dental surgery.
00:05:15Oh.
00:05:16I mean, this is not fair.
00:05:18The younger sister's supposed to be jealous of the older sister, not the other way around.
00:05:21Well, I'm working if it makes you feel any better.
00:05:25And Mackenzie has only given me a week to turn things around.
00:05:29Can you believe that?
00:05:30A week?
00:05:32Harriet!
00:05:32Harriet!
00:05:33Could you put the dog down?
00:05:35Thank you!
00:05:36Gemma, if this all goes well, Mackenzie will give me a field job.
00:05:41He turned me down for the center in Alaska, but there's still hope.
00:05:46I mean, you know that I've wanted to work with animals since I was 14 years old.
00:05:50You know that, Gemma.
00:05:51Yeah, and live in a cottage by the sea.
00:05:53Not much has changed since 1997.
00:05:55Well, I just thought that I would have met the one and, you know, settled down by now.
00:05:59Yeah, the dream house, the dream job, and the dream man.
00:06:02It's impossible.
00:06:03No, it's not.
00:06:04Look at you.
00:06:07You know what I mean.
00:06:09I mean, you have a home and a place to belong.
00:06:11I just...
00:06:13I want that too.
00:06:14That's all.
00:06:16What was that?
00:06:19Okay, I have a flight to catch this afternoon and it sounds like you have a lot going on.
00:06:23Tell me about it.
00:06:24What flight are you on?
00:06:25The 3pm San Diego to LAX and LAX to Sydney.
00:06:29Why?
00:06:29No reason.
00:06:30Have fun.
00:06:40You are the littlest penguins in the world.
00:06:44Yes, you are.
00:06:46Business class.
00:06:47I'm so fancy.
00:06:49What are you doing here?
00:06:51Like you said, I get free babysitting with a mother-in-law so I took a credit card.
00:06:56I'm coming with you.
00:06:58What?
00:06:58You're coming on my work trip?
00:06:59With me?
00:07:00Yeah.
00:07:01What about Bruce?
00:07:02Oh no, he thought the break was a great idea.
00:07:04I mean, he was still groggy from the root canal when I told him that I...
00:07:07Australia, here we come!
00:07:09Yes!
00:07:26Can you smell that?
00:07:27Mmm, it's the ocean.
00:07:30I really need a coffee.
00:07:32You know, that was a really, really long flight.
00:07:34Oh, we can do that.
00:07:36Um, excuse me.
00:07:37Can we stop at, uh, Fiona's Bakery?
00:07:40Hmm.
00:07:41Fiona's Bakery is famous for pavlovas.
00:07:44Right.
00:07:45What's that?
00:07:46Pavlova is a meringue-based dessert topped with fresh fruit and cream.
00:07:51Hmm.
00:07:51Sounds awesome.
00:07:53As long as they have coffee.
00:07:55Oh, they will.
00:07:57Wow.
00:08:03Who's hungry?
00:08:06On the menu today, we have some delightful hors d'oeuvres of anchovies and sardines, followed
00:08:13up by some tantalising main menu of anchovies and sardines.
00:08:18And if I could possibly tempt you with dessert, our special today is anchovies and sardines.
00:08:24That's right.
00:08:25Oh, you know, the weight of their hearts.
00:08:27Remind me again why you're still single.
00:08:29Well, humans are much harder to impress, Parker.
00:08:32We can't all be happily married like you.
00:08:34Yes, well, heads up, Carl seemed pretty stressed on the drive-in.
00:08:38They're sending someone from head office to check up on us.
00:08:40Really?
00:08:42When?
00:08:42Well, he put on his special business jacket, so I'd say pretty soon.
00:08:47Oh, okay.
00:08:49Well, thanks for the inside scoop.
00:08:52No worries.
00:08:55Hey, did you leave your lunch in the car again?
00:08:58Yeah, I must have.
00:08:59We'll pop it in the fridge for you.
00:09:01Oh, thanks, sweetheart.
00:09:02I've just got to let Fletcher know what's happening.
00:09:04Morning, Fletch.
00:09:05Morning, Kyle.
00:09:06Can we chat?
00:09:08Yep.
00:09:08Just, uh, let me wash my hands.
00:09:11Right you are.
00:09:16Fletch.
00:09:17I know you've never been overly interested in the managerial side of the sanctuary.
00:09:21Hey, that's all you.
00:09:21I take care of the penguins.
00:09:23Let me just get rid of these fish.
00:09:29Okay, but I need all hands on deck today.
00:09:32All three of us.
00:09:34We should be here in an hour.
00:09:35An hour?
00:09:36Yep.
00:09:37Head office.
00:09:38Head office.
00:09:39It's the first time they've sent someone.
00:09:41We've never sailed this close to the wind before.
00:09:44We're in trouble.
00:09:46Now, I need you to impress this woman if we've got any chance of repairing the sanctuary or
00:09:50even surviving the year.
00:09:53Why don't you read one of your papers to her?
00:09:56Kyle, what?
00:09:57Firstly, she's not going to want to listen to me waffle on about the unique behavioural patterns
00:10:01of little blue penguins.
00:10:02And secondly, I mean, can we even trust head office?
00:10:05You don't trust anyone.
00:10:06I trust you, Parker and the penguins.
00:10:08That's it.
00:10:09The Animal Discovery Institute has kept this place going for nearly 20 years.
00:10:12They're not going to shut us down.
00:10:15Now, I know this isn't your thing, but I'm asking for your help.
00:10:20Yeah, okay, whatever.
00:10:21Good!
00:10:22And you can start by getting a pavlova from Fiona's.
00:10:25From Fiona's, alright.
00:10:26We want to make a good first impression.
00:10:27For the penguins.
00:10:28For the penguins.
00:10:41For the penguins.
00:10:42Ah, Fletcher.
00:10:43Morning, Fi.
00:10:44Morning.
00:10:44Black coffee for you?
00:10:45Not today.
00:10:46I'm here for the same reason as everyone else.
00:10:48Ah.
00:10:49Well, you're in luck.
00:10:50There's one left.
00:10:51Perfect.
00:10:53Oh, sorry.
00:10:55Good morning.
00:10:56G'day.
00:10:58It's beautiful weather, isn't it?
00:11:00Yeah.
00:11:01Yeah, it sure is.
00:11:02I'm here for the pavlova.
00:11:03I hear they're a local delicacy.
00:11:05They are, but I don't think there's any left, I'm afraid.
00:11:08Oh, really?
00:11:09Sorry, love.
00:11:10This is my last one.
00:11:11Thanks, Fi.
00:11:12See ya.
00:11:12Better luck tomorrow.
00:11:13I hear it's best to beat the morning rush.
00:11:15Oh.
00:11:16Um, get two coffee?
00:11:18Yeah.
00:11:19Two coffees?
00:11:20One second.
00:11:22What kind of two very, very, very strong coffees?
00:11:25You got it.
00:11:25Sir!
00:11:28Excuse me!
00:11:29One second!
00:11:30Woo!
00:11:31Okay.
00:11:32Hi.
00:11:32Hi.
00:11:33Excuse me.
00:11:34Sir!
00:11:35Ah!
00:11:36Hi!
00:11:38Just running in heels.
00:11:39Ah!
00:11:40Okay.
00:11:41Just gonna ask you a question, and it's gonna sound a little weird.
00:11:43Okay.
00:11:44Okay.
00:11:45Can I purchase that pavlova from you?
00:11:48You wanna buy this cake?
00:11:50Yes.
00:11:50Yes, I do.
00:11:50It's my first day at the Crystal Bay Penguin Sanctuary, and, uh, I just need something to help,
00:11:55you know, break the ice.
00:11:57Right.
00:11:57I've heard about them.
00:11:58I hear they do good work.
00:12:00They will once I'm there.
00:12:00Oh, I'm sure they already do.
00:12:02It just seems like they need a little bit of help.
00:12:03I think they just need a little extra money.
00:12:05And I'm gonna do everything I can to get it for them.
00:12:07Oh.
00:12:07You know what?
00:12:08How about a, as a thank you for the cake, a behind the scenes tour to the Sanctuary
00:12:14on me?
00:12:15What do you mean?
00:12:15Well, that is definitely not necessary.
00:12:17And another pavlova.
00:12:18Tomorrow and the next day, a free pavlova every day until then.
00:12:22That's like, what?
00:12:22That's like seven pavlovas, six more than you already have.
00:12:25I mean, that's a good deal, right?
00:12:26That's a very good deal.
00:12:27That's a lot of sugar.
00:12:28You really wanna buy this pav?
00:12:29What's a pav?
00:12:31The pavlova, the cake.
00:12:32Oh, yes.
00:12:33Yes.
00:12:34It's just, it's my first day and I, I want them to like me, so.
00:12:40You know what?
00:12:41It's all yours.
00:12:42Are you serious?
00:12:43No daily pavlovas required.
00:12:44Thank you so much.
00:12:45Enjoy.
00:12:46So what's your name to put on the VIP tour?
00:12:49Fletcher.
00:12:50Fletcher Grant.
00:12:50Okay.
00:12:51Well, I won't forget that.
00:12:52Fletcher Grant.
00:12:52Thanks for the pav.
00:12:54No worries.
00:12:54Is that it?
00:12:55Pav.
00:12:55Of course.
00:12:56Pav.
00:12:58He's cute.
00:13:00I got a pav.
00:13:01Are you sweating?
00:13:03I ran.
00:13:04Why are you sweating?
00:13:04Because I ran very fast.
00:13:06Why, why, what's that?
00:13:07It's a pavlova.
00:13:08Oh.
00:13:09A pavlova.
00:13:09Why didn't you say that?
00:13:10Yes, I did.
00:13:14Okay, now I'm nervous.
00:13:16Really?
00:13:16No.
00:13:17You're okay.
00:13:17You got this.
00:13:18Gem, I've never worked in a sanctuary before.
00:13:20I mean, I volunteered with squirrels, but they're pretty independent,
00:13:22so I don't think that counts.
00:13:23But Tilly, Tilly, you have a degree in biology.
00:13:27You spent the last five years working in the institute, and now you're finally here,
00:13:31in this place that really, that really needs your help.
00:13:34You were born for this.
00:13:36Writing compliance reports for discovery centers isn't the same thing, Gemma.
00:13:39It's not.
00:13:40Imagine it's 1997.
00:13:43Be your 14-year-old self, you know, dreaming of working with animals.
00:13:48Okay, I know.
00:13:49What?
00:13:49I know.
00:13:50What?
00:13:50Let's do the thing.
00:13:51What thing?
00:13:52The thing.
00:13:53The thing.
00:13:54The thing we always did whenever we started a new school.
00:13:56I barely remember the thing.
00:14:02Come on.
00:14:13Okay.
00:14:14Okay.
00:14:14Okay.
00:14:15Okay.
00:14:15Do it.
00:14:16Oh, hi.
00:14:16You're standing right there.
00:14:18Wow.
00:14:19I mean, good morning.
00:14:22You must be Kyle, the general manager.
00:14:24You look just like your picture.
00:14:26Thank you so much.
00:14:26I am Tilly Monterey from head office.
00:14:29Welcome, Tilly.
00:14:30This is my husband, Parker.
00:14:32I'm the resident handyman.
00:14:33Hi, Parker.
00:14:34This is Gemma.
00:14:35Hi.
00:14:35Nice to meet you.
00:14:36Nice to meet you.
00:14:37Nice to meet you.
00:14:37I'm her assistant.
00:14:38She's my sister.
00:14:40She decided to join me on a last minute break.
00:14:42She doesn't get out very much, so.
00:14:45Not at all.
00:14:45No.
00:14:47I just want to say, I am so glad to be here.
00:14:53Oh, and before I forget, a gift.
00:14:57We heard that Fiona's Pavlova's was something special,
00:15:00so I just had to bring one.
00:15:02I thought we could, you know, celebrate.
00:15:06Celebrate what?
00:15:07All the exciting times ahead, right?
00:15:11Oh, and before I forget, I wanted to organize a VIP tour
00:15:15for someone who helped me earlier today.
00:15:16Oh, what a thoughtful gesture.
00:15:18And who's the lucky local?
00:15:19His name is, um, oh, Fletcher Grant.
00:15:31Oh.
00:15:32This place is so quaint.
00:15:39Who's that?
00:15:40Oh, um, that's my grandfather.
00:15:42Oh.
00:15:42Uh, one of the sanctuary's founders.
00:15:45A family business.
00:15:46I like that.
00:15:48A member of the Price family has been overseeing the sanctuary
00:15:50since it was founded.
00:15:53Well, why don't we keep it that way?
00:15:55The head zoologist is just about to start a tour.
00:15:58You're welcome to join us.
00:15:59Oh, little blue penguins are very special creatures.
00:16:01Well, only if I'm not going to be in the way.
00:16:03Oh, I'm in the way all the time.
00:16:04They used to be.
00:16:05Well, I can take you to the inn after the tour.
00:16:07Which begins this way.
00:16:09Cool.
00:16:16Wow.
00:16:18And this is our learning centre.
00:16:21Oh, my God.
00:16:22The kids would love this.
00:16:23Look at these little blue penguins right here.
00:16:25Ah, Fletcher.
00:16:26There you are.
00:16:28Tilly Monterey, please meet Dr. Fletcher Grant.
00:16:34Hi.
00:16:35Hi.
00:16:35Perhaps you meant that Fletcher owed you a VIP tour.
00:16:39Fletcher is our head zoologist and you two will be working closely together.
00:16:44Tilly here got us a pavlova.
00:16:46From Fiona's.
00:16:47Kyle, you're not going to believe this, but Fletcher...
00:16:49I can't do that right now, please.
00:16:51...should have gotten to Fiona's bakery earlier and loves giving VIP tours.
00:16:57Welcome to the Crystal Bay Penguin Sanctuary.
00:16:59Welcome to our little home.
00:17:01The pleasure is all mine.
00:17:03I would love to meet the residents.
00:17:05Sure thing.
00:17:06Right this way.
00:17:07After you.
00:17:09Oh, my God.
00:17:14Here they are.
00:17:16Oh, you're so adorable.
00:17:19You're so cute.
00:17:19Yes, you are.
00:17:20Hello.
00:17:23So, little blue penguins are the smallest breed of penguin in the world,
00:17:26with a height of around 30 centimetres and weighing just 1.71 kilos.
00:17:30So they stick together when they're hunting or making their way back to their burrows.
00:17:36I thought birds made nests.
00:17:39They do.
00:17:40So the burrows are small enclosed tunnels.
00:17:42They make their nests inside the burrows.
00:17:43Oh, that good massive bedroom is so important.
00:17:48Introduce me.
00:17:49I'm sorry?
00:17:50Introduce me.
00:17:51What are their names?
00:17:52Ah, well, this is Bailey.
00:17:54He's four years old and has a terrible sense of direction.
00:17:57Oh, I understand Bailey.
00:17:59I have been in San Diego for years and I still get lost on my way home.
00:18:03And this is Victor.
00:18:04He's our Lone Ranger and he just cannot seem to find a mate.
00:18:09Me too, Victor.
00:18:10So, um, I can relate.
00:18:13And who's that?
00:18:15Ah, that's, um, that's Jules.
00:18:20Jules.
00:18:20Jules is Fletcher's favourite.
00:18:21I don't have favourites, Kyle.
00:18:24All parents say that, but they so do.
00:18:26Who's your favourite?
00:18:27Pickles.
00:18:28Wait, you have three children and your dog is your favourite?
00:18:30Yeah.
00:18:31I stand by my choice.
00:18:33And what is Jules' story?
00:18:34Well, Jules was quite small when we found her.
00:18:37She had just begun her first molt.
00:18:39They can't swim when they're molting, so they're quite vulnerable.
00:18:42Do they return to the wild?
00:18:44Most will, but some like Jules here are long-term residents.
00:18:47We provide the sanctuary somewhere they can be safe, but they're a highly community-minded species.
00:18:51So this isn't just a colony, this is a-
00:18:54Family.
00:18:56Yeah, that's right.
00:18:57A family.
00:18:58I think I've seen everything I need to see here.
00:19:06They're so cute.
00:19:19I know the signs are a little faded and no doubt you've noticed the cracks along the pool edging, but
00:19:26I believe, we believe-
00:19:28You have a lovely facility here.
00:19:31Oh.
00:19:32Yes.
00:19:33Look, let me start by saying that I know you're all nervous,
00:19:36but I'm really good at identifying the issues
00:19:39that hold a sanctuary back and leveraging opportunities
00:19:41to bring wonderful places like this back to life.
00:19:45Okay, so what does that mean exactly?
00:19:48I'm glad you asked, because I have a plan.
00:19:50Chilly always has a plan.
00:19:52You should pack pajamas for me.
00:19:53Didn't even know it was coming.
00:19:56Listen, you have a lovely local community here. You do.
00:19:59And you have an amazing facility with adorable penguins.
00:20:03We just need to bring those two things together.
00:20:06And if we do, I think we can convince head office
00:20:08to keep this place open.
00:20:09Hang on. What do you mean, convince head office?
00:20:13They want to shut us down?
00:20:14They don't want to close this place any more than you do, okay?
00:20:17But most sanctuaries are financially supported
00:20:19with local funding as well as the Institute.
00:20:21Your community funding is sitting at, what, 20%?
00:20:25You know, at this rate, the Institute can't afford
00:20:28to keep this place open for much longer. They just can't.
00:20:30It's true.
00:20:31We also used to receive a government stipend,
00:20:33but the mayor reduced it.
00:20:34We've been barely scraping by.
00:20:36So, what happens if you can't help us find our feet?
00:20:40They'll close the centre, and they'll relocate the penguins to...
00:20:43New Zealand.
00:20:44Yes, there's a new facility there.
00:20:45Yeah, but it's not their home.
00:20:47No, it's not. And home is everything.
00:20:53Look, you have just fallen off the map,
00:20:56but I can help you get back on it.
00:20:58And I know that a week isn't a lot of time, but I know...
00:21:01A week?
00:21:01Hang on.
00:21:02So you're telling me that we have one week to fix this place,
00:21:05or head office is going to shut us down?
00:21:06But that isn't enough time.
00:21:08It could be.
00:21:08I've seen sanctuaries thrive with community support.
00:21:12The locals don't care about the penguins.
00:21:15They care about their ocean views and the town gossip.
00:21:18They used to care.
00:21:22Then we will remind them how to care.
00:21:25What do you say?
00:21:29Give me a chance.
00:21:40I mean...
00:21:41Me too.
00:21:43No, I know nothing about penguins, but I have two hands.
00:21:46And they're all yours.
00:21:51What do you say, Fletcher?
00:21:58Fine.
00:22:00Okay, should we do like a...
00:22:02Or something like that?
00:22:03Oh, oh, what sound do penguins make?
00:22:05Oh, yeah.
00:22:05Oh, it's not like...
00:22:06It's not...
00:22:07For the penguins.
00:22:10For the penguins.
00:22:11Okay.
00:22:12One...
00:22:13Two...
00:22:14Three...
00:22:15For the penguins!
00:22:28Welcome to the Seaspray Inn.
00:22:30Oh.
00:22:32Wow.
00:22:33That's...
00:22:34This is like the place I go to in my head when I'm hiding out in the car, when I'm
00:22:38meditating
00:22:39in the car.
00:22:40There's a pool.
00:22:41There is.
00:22:42Oh.
00:22:43This is incredible.
00:22:45You're welcome.
00:22:46Tilly, there's a hot tub!
00:22:47Okay.
00:22:48She's just tired.
00:22:50She's tired.
00:22:50So what's this?
00:22:52Uh...
00:22:53Mostly just some old records, really, and some keepsakes from the Sanctuary's heyday.
00:22:57We just thought maybe you could find some inspiration in here.
00:22:59Well, this is so helpful.
00:23:02The very least I can do.
00:23:04Carl and I are really glad you're here.
00:23:06Well, that makes two of you.
00:23:09Yes, well, Fletcher finds it hard to trust new people, but he'll come round.
00:23:13Okay.
00:23:15Guys.
00:23:17Do you hear that?
00:23:19Hear what?
00:23:21Silence.
00:23:22There's no kids.
00:23:23There's no dogs.
00:23:24Just...
00:23:25Silence.
00:23:27Can you breathe under there?
00:23:29Shh.
00:23:30I'm in my happy place.
00:23:31Oh, I love these pillows.
00:23:34Oh, me too.
00:23:35Kyle doesn't like pillows at all, which I cannot understand.
00:23:38Who doesn't want to dive into a sea of pillows?
00:23:41Oh, exactly.
00:23:43You are either a pillow person or you're not.
00:23:45Mm-hmm.
00:23:45Period.
00:23:46My husband, Bruce, his whole bedtime routine is brush his teeth, have a shower, and de-pillow
00:23:52the bed.
00:23:53Kyle is exactly the same, just tosses them on the floor as if they're not more expensive
00:23:57than his phone.
00:23:58Which they must never know.
00:24:00They must never know.
00:24:02Oh, no.
00:24:04All right, well, look, I'll let you two get settled in.
00:24:07Thank you, Parker.
00:24:08Good.
00:24:09Oh, and by the way, I'm playing down at the compass tonight.
00:24:12It's nothing fancy, but you should come along.
00:24:16We would love to.
00:24:17Awesome.
00:24:18I'll see you there.
00:24:19Bye.
00:24:19Bye.
00:24:30I am so well rested.
00:24:33There is something about Crystal Bay that really agrees with me.
00:24:37Yes, I can tell you slept for hours.
00:24:39Yes.
00:24:40I hope Fletcher's there.
00:24:41I really want a second chance at a first impression.
00:24:44You know, he's not a bad looking man.
00:24:47I hadn't noticed.
00:24:48He has this charming kind of outdoorsy thing going on.
00:24:53And that was a nice smile he gave you at the bakery.
00:24:55That's before he knew who I was.
00:24:57Yeah, I'm just saying.
00:24:58What is that?
00:24:59You're hiding.
00:25:00You will see.
00:25:01You'll see.
00:25:03If we don't want the penguins to go to New Zealand, she's our only option.
00:25:06I did the hands in the middle thing, Kyle.
00:25:08I'm trying.
00:25:09It's just that people from head office, they're from a whole different world.
00:25:12They're all about the bottom line and ticking boxes.
00:25:15Which I know is important, but they just, they don't know anything about working in the field.
00:25:19We could lose everything, Fletcher.
00:25:22We don't have a lot of options left.
00:25:25And besides, I have a suspicion that Tilly is exactly what this place needs.
00:25:32Ah, you made it.
00:25:33We sure did.
00:25:35Thought you guys would be holed up at the inn sleeping off the jet lag.
00:25:38Oh, I missed the opportunity to see Parker play.
00:25:39Absolutely not.
00:25:41What can we get you?
00:25:42It's on me.
00:25:42No, please.
00:25:43You're our guests.
00:25:44Allow me.
00:25:46Oh, great.
00:25:46I'll keep you company.
00:25:48Fantastic.
00:25:55Can we start again?
00:25:58Sure.
00:25:59We could give it a go.
00:26:00Okay.
00:26:02I'm gonna give it a go.
00:26:05Look, I know how much the sanctuary means to you.
00:26:08And I promise you I'm gonna do everything I can to help save it.
00:26:12I'm sure you think you mean that.
00:26:13What is that supposed to mean?
00:26:15I'm sure you have good intentions, but you're a...
00:26:19Pencil pusher from head office.
00:26:22Working with the animals is a whole different...
00:26:24It's a kettle of fish.
00:26:25Could you stop that?
00:26:26Salmon had to say it.
00:26:28Finished?
00:26:29You don't trust me.
00:26:33It's not personal.
00:26:35Well, I look forward to changing your mind.
00:26:40And hot chocolate with extra marshmallows.
00:26:44They are the best.
00:26:45I know.
00:26:46Okay.
00:26:47So I know that we're off the clock, but I have done a little bit of research.
00:26:51The Crystal Bay Penguin Sanctuary actually had its heyday in the 1950s after a wild colony was discovered.
00:26:57Exactly.
00:26:58That's when little blue penguins were found on the mainland.
00:27:01And the birds that needed a helping hand were taken in by a local ornithologist, Kyle's grandfather.
00:27:06He started the sanctuary with a group of local scientists.
00:27:08It's a pretty well-known story.
00:27:10Right.
00:27:10The penguins became international news.
00:27:12People came from all over the world to research them.
00:27:15Articles were written about them.
00:27:17And the town even created a penguin day to raise money for the sanctuary.
00:27:27That's my grandfather.
00:27:29He'd do anything for a laugh.
00:27:31The kids loved him.
00:27:33Did you know that for 20 years, 80% of the sanctuary's budget came from the community?
00:27:37Really?
00:27:38How did you find out about that?
00:27:39I'm good at numbers.
00:27:40I'm digging through 50-year-old paperwork.
00:27:42But how did they manage to get the funding?
00:27:44Simple.
00:27:45Community outreach.
00:27:47Okay, but that was in the 1950s when penguins made international headlines.
00:27:50We're a sanctuary, not a theme park.
00:27:53We can't just put on a show for them.
00:27:54We don't have to.
00:27:59What's this?
00:28:00An invitation to the first annual Crystal Bay Penguin Sanctuary Gala.
00:28:04And we're going to relaunch it this Friday night.
00:28:06This is how we save the sanctuary, guys.
00:28:09We are going to invite everyone from the mayor to the scientific community.
00:28:12We have to bring people together.
00:28:15We just have to remind everyone that we're still here.
00:28:18That's a great idea.
00:28:19But how are we going to manage to pull this off?
00:28:22We start tomorrow.
00:28:23Then we'd better enjoy tonight.
00:28:25It's going to be a busy week.
00:28:26Cheers.
00:28:27Cheers.
00:28:31Good evening, ladies and gents.
00:28:33I'm Parker Price.
00:28:35Sit back, relax, and enjoy the music.
00:28:48He's great.
00:28:49He is.
00:28:50I'm a very lucky man.
00:28:52And we never have to run away.
00:28:55The sanctuary requires urgent repairs.
00:28:58How are you going to find them out at the Fundus Gala?
00:29:00I think you mean we.
00:29:02In the blink of a night, we built ourselves a home.
00:29:07Now we never have to be alone.
00:29:12Good morning, everyone.
00:29:14So first things first, I'm going to do an audit of all the repairs we need.
00:29:17Parker, you're with me?
00:29:19Yes, ma'am.
00:29:19We'll be having daily team meetings starting at 12pm sharp.
00:29:22Don't be late.
00:29:25What just happened?
00:29:27Come on.
00:29:28Come on.
00:30:05Okay, so I think I got most of the pilchards out.
00:30:09And you were right.
00:30:09The thermostat needs replacing.
00:30:11It was frozen over.
00:30:12Here you go.
00:30:13You got the fish out.
00:30:15Yes.
00:30:16I used an ice pick.
00:30:17I almost got frostbite.
00:30:19But I think there's enough fish in there for a nice dinner.
00:30:21What do you say, Bailey?
00:30:22You have made their day.
00:30:24I mean, they love sardines.
00:30:26But these guys are their favorite.
00:30:28Pilchards are all the way from Western Australia.
00:30:31You want to try to feed me?
00:30:32Sure.
00:30:34There you go.
00:30:34Okay.
00:30:35Wait.
00:30:36How do I do it?
00:30:37Like this.
00:30:38Okay.
00:30:38Head first.
00:30:39Put your hand over.
00:30:41Now we bend down.
00:30:44Okay, guys.
00:30:49Oh, here we go.
00:30:50We have a taker.
00:30:54Now, if you throw one in the water, Cherry will die for it.
00:30:57Okay.
00:30:59Ready?
00:30:59She prefers to hunt for her food.
00:31:01There you go, Cherry.
00:31:04Good job.
00:31:05You really know these little guys well.
00:31:07Yeah.
00:31:08Yeah, they got a lot of personality.
00:31:11So it's gonna be hard to say goodbye.
00:31:15You don't have much faith, do you?
00:31:17I want to.
00:31:18Believe me, I do.
00:31:19But I just don't see us raising the money in time.
00:31:22The people here will come through.
00:31:24I can feel it.
00:31:27Guys.
00:31:29Guys.
00:31:30Oh, there you go.
00:31:33You really care about this place, don't you?
00:31:35I do.
00:31:39You're sparkling.
00:31:41I'm just a little idealistic.
00:31:44No, no, no.
00:31:44You are actually sparkling.
00:31:46Oh, okay.
00:31:46Fish scale.
00:31:47Well, occupational hazard, I guess.
00:31:49You should see me at the end of the day.
00:31:51I look like a disco.
00:31:51Oh, you do?
00:31:52Yep.
00:31:52Okay, who wants another wedding?
00:31:54Here we go.
00:31:55Who's hungry?
00:31:57There you go, cutie.
00:31:59Oh, my gosh.
00:32:00Ah!
00:32:00Oop.
00:32:08Five days left.
00:32:13Tilly!
00:32:14My favorite compliance manager.
00:32:17How's it going down under?
00:32:18Good.
00:32:19Everything is under control.
00:32:22Yeah?
00:32:23So you think you're gonna turn things around?
00:32:25Oh, yes, yes.
00:32:26The issues are mainly superficial, nothing major.
00:32:29Um, we're gonna do a few fundraising events
00:32:31to up the sanctuary's profile
00:32:33and the grand gala on Friday night.
00:32:35You're gonna do all that in five days?
00:32:38Yes.
00:32:38And I got to feed the penguins.
00:32:41It was amazing.
00:32:43That's really impressive.
00:32:45I mean, maybe I was wrong about you.
00:32:47You seem to be thriving in the field.
00:32:49Maybe you are ready for a new position.
00:32:52You know what?
00:32:53I'm gonna come to this gala.
00:32:56S-s-s-sorry?
00:32:57Yeah, yeah.
00:32:58I'm gonna come down,
00:32:59show my support for what you've done.
00:33:01You know what the last time I was in Australia was?
00:33:04Blues Fest 99.
00:33:05Yeah, that was it.
00:33:06That was the festival.
00:33:08Hey, you know what, Tilly?
00:33:09There are new sanctuaries opening up all the time.
00:33:11And they're all in need of qualified, enthusiastic staff.
00:33:17Do you mean that, Mac?
00:33:18Yeah, yeah.
00:33:19I do.
00:33:20Okay, you send the invite.
00:33:21I'm gonna get the flats booked and...
00:33:25Namaste.
00:33:27Bye-bye now.
00:33:30I can do this.
00:33:31I can do this.
00:33:32It's no big deal.
00:33:33It's no big deal.
00:33:35In five days I can save a colony full of penguins
00:33:37while maintaining an extremely fragile trust
00:33:38with a very nice group of people
00:33:40and a land-hanger job.
00:33:41It's no problem.
00:33:42No problemo.
00:33:43It's no problemo.
00:33:44I'm gonna...
00:33:45Let's go.
00:33:52I knew it.
00:33:54Knew what?
00:33:55That you also love expensive pillows?
00:33:58Shh!
00:33:58They must never know.
00:34:00Oh, you're an artist.
00:34:02I can tell a fellow creative when I see one.
00:34:04Gemma, this is beautiful.
00:34:05Well, thank you.
00:34:06Well, I am an artist.
00:34:07Well, I was an artist in another life.
00:34:09Before my beautiful children and my dog
00:34:12we named after a hot dog condiment.
00:34:14Hmm?
00:34:15Pickles.
00:34:16Cute.
00:34:17Here.
00:34:19It's my family.
00:34:21Oh, gorgeous tribe.
00:34:23I miss them.
00:34:25But you keep them close to your heart.
00:34:28Yeah.
00:34:28I do.
00:34:30But I've gotta say,
00:34:31it's really nice to be painting again.
00:34:32Yeah.
00:34:33Yeah.
00:34:33You know, you played really beautifully last night.
00:34:36You did.
00:34:37Oh, thanks.
00:34:38It's just a bit of fun.
00:34:40No, no, you're really good.
00:34:43Seriously.
00:34:45Well, I made an album back in the day
00:34:48on vinyl, no less.
00:34:50Vinyl?
00:34:50On vinyl?
00:34:51How old are you?
00:34:53I was trying to be edgy.
00:34:54Ah.
00:34:55Didn't even have a cover.
00:34:57Hmm.
00:35:00I think it's important to have a creative outlet.
00:35:03It's so easy to lose your identity
00:35:04when there's so many people that need you.
00:35:07So true.
00:35:07Yeah, I just wish that Bruce and I had more time together.
00:35:10Just us.
00:35:11We couldn't afford a honeymoon when we were married
00:35:13and we've been meaning to have one ever since, but...
00:35:15But time slips away.
00:35:16Yeah.
00:35:17Yeah, it does.
00:35:19Well, have you talked to him about it?
00:35:20No.
00:35:22Well, relationships go through all different chapters.
00:35:26Maybe you're due for a romantic one.
00:35:31Parker.
00:35:32What was it called?
00:35:33Hmm?
00:35:34Your album.
00:35:36Deep Blue Dreams.
00:35:39Nice.
00:35:43Take the tree.
00:35:44Hmm.
00:35:46Take the tree.
00:35:51Okay, people.
00:35:52Listen up.
00:35:53Right here, we have a strategic plan of attack!
00:35:57I mean, success.
00:35:59Right?
00:36:00Step one.
00:36:01Fake sale.
00:36:03I know it sounds old-fashioned,
00:36:04but never underestimate the power of a good cookie.
00:36:06It'll endear us to the community,
00:36:07plus I make a mean ginger snap.
00:36:09Step two, bring back Penguin Day.
00:36:10I'm thinking a behind-the-scenes type thing.
00:36:12Kyle Parker, that's you.
00:36:14Step three, talk to the mayor.
00:36:15We are bringing our local funding back.
00:36:17Okay?
00:36:18Can you come up with a presentation, Fletcher, for this one?
00:36:20You can be the brains, I can be the...
00:36:21Beauty.
00:36:27What?
00:36:28I was thinking brawn, but...
00:36:30That's the saying. Brains...
00:36:31Okay, yeah, I hear it.
00:36:32Carry on. Sure. Yep.
00:36:33Okay.
00:36:35Step four, the grand gala on Friday night.
00:36:37Got it.
00:36:38Fletcher, you and I are gonna come up with the gala's guest list.
00:36:40We need the scientific community to know that we're here.
00:36:42Sure thing.
00:36:43Okay, so what can I do?
00:36:44You, um, you painted a perfect sign,
00:36:46so I'm thinking we still need banners,
00:36:49we still need posters for all the events,
00:36:51including the gala, and invites.
00:36:53I'm thinking old-school, I'm thinking fancy.
00:36:54Oh, and a theme.
00:36:55Well, it's a relaunch, so why don't we go vintage?
00:36:57Like, uh, honour the original gala.
00:37:001950 Slammer.
00:37:02Okay, so, we have our marching orders, people.
00:37:05We have a week to get moving.
00:37:06Let's go!
00:37:07Yes!
00:37:07For the penguins!
00:37:09Noob.
00:37:09But I thought we were all gonna...
00:37:10Noob!
00:37:11Never mind.
00:37:13No problemo.
00:37:20So should we call them penguin gingerbread men,
00:37:24ginger penguins, or gingerbread penguins?
00:37:26Uh, that one, gingerbread penguins.
00:37:29I think ginger penguins has a ring to it.
00:37:31Okay.
00:37:33Hey, stop sampling the merchandise!
00:37:35How am I supposed to sell something
00:37:37that I haven't even tried?
00:37:38Fine, I'm calling them ginger penguins.
00:37:40Okay.
00:37:41Looking good.
00:37:42I have a great feeling about today.
00:37:44We've been out spreading the word
00:37:46about Penguin Day tomorrow.
00:37:47Well, I love it when a good plan comes together.
00:37:49Me too.
00:37:50Ah, ah, ah!
00:37:50No sampling the merchandise, it's my job.
00:37:53Feels good getting out into the community,
00:37:55like my grandfather.
00:37:57He used to dress up in a penguin costume
00:37:59just to get a laugh.
00:38:00We've never done anything like that before.
00:38:02Well, now's our chance.
00:38:03Yeah, sounds good.
00:38:05Look, I'm sure the people of Crystal Bay will step up.
00:38:07I mean, that's what neighbours are for, right?
00:38:08Right.
00:38:09Right.
00:38:24Don't forget to join us tomorrow here for Penguin Day!
00:38:28This isn't good.
00:38:29I thought it'd be busier.
00:38:30It will be.
00:38:31We just have to wait for the rush hour foot traffic.
00:38:34You say so.
00:38:36Hey.
00:38:37Can you hold the fort for a minute?
00:38:38I've just got to go get something.
00:38:40I'll do my best.
00:38:42Hey.
00:38:43I'll be right back.
00:38:43Okay.

00:38:50I am.
00:38:51Oh, and you can be the first to try our ginger penguins.
00:38:55Oh!
00:38:56A good old fashioned bake sale, my favourite.
00:38:59Yeah.
00:39:01Ooh.
00:39:04That is for you.
00:39:11Ooh.
00:39:13It's too much ginger.
00:39:14It's unusual.
00:39:16It's good though.
00:39:19I'm gonna save the rest for later, hey?
00:39:21So, what's all this in aid of?
00:39:24Oh, the, uh, the sanctuary needs some repairs.
00:39:27Oh, nothing too serious, I hope?
00:39:29We may have to close our doors.
00:39:31What Fletcher is trying to say
00:39:33is we just want to be in the larger community
00:39:35and spread joy just like you do with your bakery.
00:39:39Mm-hmm.
00:39:39Oh, that's a lovely idea.
00:39:41Here.
00:39:42Let me buy another cookie, hey?
00:39:44Oh, okay.
00:39:45Here we go.

00:55:28i mean you're likely the leading expert on the subject
00:55:31yeah i'm not that kind of scientist
00:55:33imagine how it could raise the profile of the sanctuary
00:55:35not to mention the rest of the scientific community
00:55:37we could put this place back on the map
00:55:40fletcher look at me
00:55:41you are an incredible intellectual
00:55:43and a talented zoologist
00:55:45i mean you should give yourself more credit

00:56:39you know before i left san diego
00:56:42i applied for the general manager position
00:56:46at the polar bear center in alaska
00:56:48i was eyeing the position for a while but

00:58:45tilly
00:58:45yes
00:58:46i'd like you to meet
00:58:49digby and delilah
00:58:50wow they are so cute
00:58:54we found them together last year
00:58:56and they are inseparable.
00:59:00These two are currently sitting on their first egg.
00:59:03They take turns incubating.
00:59:05One will sit on the nest while the other one hunts.
00:59:08Do you release them?
00:59:10Absolutely. That's why they're away from the others.
00:59:12We don't hand-feed Digby and Delilah.
00:59:14Otherwise, they'll lose their hunting instincts.
00:59:16So special.
00:59:21Penguins really have the right idea, don't they?
00:59:24About what?
00:59:26Relationships.
00:59:27I mean, they communicate,
00:59:31build a home,
00:59:34share chores,
00:59:36look out for each other.
00:59:38They do.
00:59:39They're made for each other.
00:59:41From the sea to the shore.
00:59:44Step by step.
00:59:47I hope to have that one day.
00:59:50An egg?
00:59:51No.
00:59:53No.
00:59:55The home.
00:59:58The home.
01:00:23Hey, looking good.
01:00:25Nice.
01:00:26You know, you could be a professional.
01:00:27Well, actually, I've decided to return to painting.
01:00:30That's wonderful.
01:00:32And did you speak to Bruce yet about it?
01:00:34Well, we have three children and work and a dog.
01:00:37And Carl and I have 36 penguins.
01:00:41You need to make the time.
01:00:44Go and call him.
01:00:45Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:00:46You'll thank me.
01:00:58Fletcher has been in there for a very long time.
01:01:00I'm not sure we should have split up our presentations.
01:01:02If anyone can convince the mayor to care about penguins,
01:01:06it's Fletcher, okay?
01:01:07The mayor needs to care before he can allocate funding.
01:01:10What I'm worried about is time is slipping away
01:01:12and we only had one evening left to raise $50,000.
01:01:15I mean, if the mayor fails to reinstate our funding
01:01:18or the institute stops paying our bills,
01:01:20then it's off to New Zealand for our penguins.
01:01:22Probably an economy.
01:01:25I've failed.
01:01:26I'm sorry, grandfather.
01:01:27Don't you talk like that.
01:01:30It ain't over till it's over.
01:01:31It's over.
01:01:32Uh, what?
01:01:34I mean, he hasn't even seen my mood boards yet.
01:01:36I was just about to go in there.
01:01:37He said that he's heard enough
01:01:38and now he's got another meeting with that guy.
01:01:41What is there to talk about, Fletcher?
01:01:44This is a no-brainer.
01:01:46Well, look, Hail Mary.
01:01:47I invited him to the gala tomorrow night,
01:01:49but it's a 50-50 chance whether he turns up or not.
01:01:52He was very...moody.
01:01:55Well, it's a start, right?
01:01:57You know what?
01:01:59We have come this far,
01:02:00so there's only one thing to do.
01:02:02What's that?
01:02:03Keep going!
01:02:15Kids, can you take care of pickles?
01:02:17While I take care of this alarm?
01:02:18Hey, Mom's on the phone.
01:02:20Hi.
01:02:21Hey, honey.
01:02:22What's that noise?
01:02:23How are you?
01:02:23Sorry, the fire alarm is going off.
01:02:25The kids made pancakes.
01:02:26It's a war zone.
01:02:27Hang on.
01:02:28It's just gone off.
01:02:28It's just gone off.
01:02:29You go down there.
01:02:30That's good.
01:02:31How are you?
01:02:31How's Australia?
01:02:32We all miss you so much.
01:02:34Oh, I miss you.
01:02:36It's beautiful here.
01:02:37You'd love it.
01:02:38Oh, I would love to be there, honey.
01:02:40I'd love to be there.
01:02:41We're having a fancy fundraising gala on Friday,
01:02:44and I wish you were coming.
01:02:48You know, you always look so great in a suit.
01:02:51In my younger days, maybe.
01:02:53Hey, hon, we'll have that honeymoon one day.
01:02:56Maybe when the kids are in college.
01:02:59Actually, that's what I wanted to talk to you about, Bruce.
01:03:02About making time for ourselves.
01:03:05You know, for reconnecting.
01:03:06Yeah, listen, hon.
01:03:08Harriet, you stopped squirting that toothpaste on the floor.
01:03:11It's really important.
01:03:14No, no, don't mean it.
01:03:16I'm sorry, honey.
01:03:17I'll have to call you later.
01:03:18Love you.
01:03:19I love you, too.
01:03:34You're moving in?
01:03:36I'm trying to find a backup generator for the gala lighting.
01:03:39I don't want an overloaded circuit to trip the breaker.
01:03:42Okay, good thinking.
01:03:43You know, I really thought the mayor would be on board with this.
01:03:47We only had a week.
01:03:49It's not a lot of time to raise $50,000, but, Tilly,
01:03:54if anybody can pull this off, it's you.
01:03:58So, let's be like the little blue penguins about this
01:04:01and just take it step by step, yeah?
01:04:04Yeah.
01:04:08And I thought we already had a generator.
01:04:10We do.
01:04:10I just wanted a backup in case.
01:04:13Okay, well, I know where there's one.
01:04:15Come on.
01:04:16Come on.
01:04:17Okay.
01:04:20You...
01:04:20You're...
01:04:21Yes, sir.
01:04:31Wait.
01:04:32I told you.
01:04:33Leaky faucet.
01:04:34You live here?
01:04:35No, no, no.
01:04:36Yes and no.
01:04:51Because of the hours I do at the sanctuary,
01:04:53I sort of spend my time between the two.
01:04:56Wait, why don't you live in this place?
01:04:58It's so cute.
01:05:06Oh, that's complicated.
01:05:09Now, do we need a backup to the backup or will this backup do?
01:05:12No, that's perfect.
01:05:13No, that's perfect.
01:05:13What's complicated?
01:05:17Um, well, when my ex didn't show up at the airport,
01:05:20I sort of dove straight into work at the sanctuary.
01:05:23Didn't really want to look at this place as being a home.
01:05:26But I can see what you're saying.
01:05:27With a bit of work, it could actually be something.
01:05:31It really could.
01:05:48Hey, how's it going?
01:05:50Good.
01:05:51We're almost ready for the gala.
01:05:53Actually, I meant you.
01:05:55How are you doing?
01:05:59You really seem to like it here.
01:06:00I haven't seen you this happy in a long time.
01:06:04I do love it here.
01:06:06There's no reason why you can't stay a bit longer.
01:06:09I can't turn my back on everything I've worked for.
01:06:13Yeah, yeah.
01:06:14Just tell me you heard me.
01:06:17I heard you.
01:06:19Good.
01:06:20Grab your coat.
01:06:39Where are we going?
01:06:40You'll see.
01:06:43Guys!
01:06:45What is this?
01:06:46Oh, the guest of honour.
01:06:48Come on in.
01:06:50Oh, thank you.
01:06:51This is for you.
01:06:52Well, thank you.
01:06:53Well, thank you.
01:06:57Everybody.
01:06:59Tilly, I've been the general manager of our beloved penguin sanctuary for a long time.
01:07:06We've seen some people come and go, and we've seen some people come and stay.
01:07:12Some people I wished would go.
01:07:15What I'm trying to say is that I've never wished for anybody to stay quite as much as you.
01:07:23And if the sanctuary remains open, we'd love for you to stay.
01:07:29Whatever you decide, please know that you'll always have a home here.
01:07:39Oh, yeah.
01:07:41That's enough of that.
01:07:42Have some more hot chocolate.
01:07:44I'm trying to hide.
01:07:46I'm trying to hide.
01:07:49I just got to hide.
01:07:51I just got to hide.
01:07:56Who ate all the marshmallows?
01:08:06So I took your advice.
01:08:14The Unique Behavioural Traits of Little Blue Penguins by Dr. Fletcher Grant.
01:08:22While you were gone, the editor of the International Wildlife Journal called to RSVP.
01:08:28We exchanged some strong opinions on emperor penguins, but he was very interested in our little blue penguins.
01:08:35And you were right.
01:08:36People do want to hear about the sanctuary.
01:08:40And it seems that my writing is good enough to be published.
01:08:45That's going to be in the next issue.

01:20:42right now you are about to make a big mistake
01:20:51hello is this thing working uh hello is this thing working uh okay good evening everyone
01:21:00my name is dr fletcher grant and i am the head zoologist at the crystal bay penguin sanctuary
01:21:08the work we do is important here um looking after our colony of little blue penguins and um
01:21:20i really thought that we were going to save our sanctuary tonight
01:21:24um but it appears that fate has ruled against us and that's okay because sometimes we have to
01:21:31accept what we've lost because losing is part of life um please enjoy your evening and uh make sure you
01:21:41with crab cakes thank you uh wait everyone uh just one moment
01:21:48ladies and gentlemen sorry one moment um hi my name is tillie monterey and up until about a week ago
01:21:59i knew about as much as you do about the crystal bay penguin sanctuary
01:22:05in fact i didn't even know where crystal bay was
01:22:10um but in that time i've learned a lot about little blue penguins
01:22:16i've learned that they are the smallest penguins in the world
01:22:22i've learned how well they take care of each other they really look out for their neighbors
01:22:29life isn't easy for these little guys sometimes they will come home with a belly full of food or
01:22:35come home hungry or find someone they like and convince them to sit on an egg
01:22:48we all need a little help sometimes to help fix things to help give us advice
01:22:58to make the best pavlovas in the world crystal bay is an amazing place
01:23:06and the little blue penguins are our neighbors and i think it's time to be good neighbors to them
01:23:17because they're not that different from us right
01:23:22i mean don't we all feel a little small sometimes don't we all feel afraid when we don't know what's
01:23:30going to happen next you know for the longest time all i ever wanted to do was good work and
01:23:37travel to
01:23:39extraordinary places and to make a difference
01:23:47and i think i can do that here because this is where i'm needed most and um
01:23:55this is where i belong so thank you
01:24:09let's ensure that the crystal bay penguin sanctuary is here to stay for years to come
01:24:25you're grandfather would be so proud
01:24:31hey tilly's gonna be great here so proud of her yeah thank you
01:24:44this is where i belong with you
01:24:49this is where we can take it step by step we can take it step by step just like the
01:24:53penguins
01:24:53this is where i live and you're working here
01:24:56so
