Argentina: President Milei requested to be investigated as suspect in $Libra cryptocurrency case

Argentinian president Javier Milei could be summoned as a suspect in the criminal investigations regarding the $Libra cryptocurrency. On Friday, one of the plaintiffs behind the investigation into the $Libra cryptocurrency requested that the president be summoned and declared unfit for public office. According to the complainants, Milei allegedly intervened personally in matters related to the promotion of the cryptocurrency while in office. The complaint alleges that these actions may have favored private interests and that financial transfers related to these activities took place. The complainants assert that there was a preliminary planning phase, followed by the public promotion of the cryptocurrency and subsequently, financial transactions under investigation. The court must now review the request and determine whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed with the subpoenas. In the meantime, the case remains in the investigative phase and no judicial ruling has been issued regarding the liability of the individuals named.
