00:00is increasingly warning that this situation is now a humanitarian crisis over 1.2 million people
00:07have been displaced and human rights groups are saying that nowhere in the country is really safe
00:12here in Beirut it feels like a city holding its breath the city has almost become a giant car
00:19park full of cars everywhere on sidewalks and public spaces and these cars are of people who
00:26have been displaced and who don't know where to go now the state is really struggling it doesn't
00:30have the means to cope with this humanitarian crisis NGOs are also struggling a lot of them
00:36depended on USAID which faced severe cuts under the Trump administration last year so lots of
00:42these people don't really have anywhere to go basically if you don't have friends or family
00:47you can stay with you're in big trouble there are also a lot of sectarian tensions that are beginning
00:54to appear lots of the people who are being displaced as sheer they are looking to move
00:58to non sheer communities that are often seen as being safer but there's lots of skepticism
01:04people are afraid of hosting displaced people into their homes because they're concerned and
01:09terrified that their buildings that their neighborhoods will then be targeted by Hezbollah
01:15human rights organizations are also warning about the horrific impact this is having on the
01:21country's children they released numbers yesterday saying that over 370,000 children have been
01:28displaced over a hundred children have been killed since this latest war began and psychologists and
01:35rights organizations are warning about the severe traumatic and generational impact this will have
01:42on the country Olivia another thing rights groups are also worried about is the situation in southern
01:48Lebanon that condemning Israel's expanded operations I'm saying that preventing Lebanese civilians from
01:54returning to their homes may amount to the war crime of forced displacement
02:02yes well the fears of an occupation in southern Lebanon are very very real the people who are now being
02:11displaced are often being displaced now for the second or third time since 2024 many Lebanese people I've
02:18been speaking to have told me that they feel like history is just repeating itself over and over again because
02:24let's not forget between 1982 and 2000 the Israelis occupied about a third of Lebanon and that occupation is what
02:35gave birth to
02:36Hezbollah in the first place now the Israeli authorities have issued evacuation orders for about a fifth of the country
02:44in the south
02:45around 20 percent of Lebanese are under these evacuation orders and the Israeli authorities have have said
02:51that anyone who goes down to the south is putting their life in danger now analysts are also warning that
02:59similar
02:59strategies are being used to the ones that have been used in Gaza now the Israelis have been saying that
03:06they want to
03:07put in place this buffer zone the security zone that they will not leave until Israelis in the north feel
03:13safe but those terms are
03:14very vague and many are terrified that this permanent evacuation and this a temporary evacuation will become very permanent now
03:23analysts have been warning also that the the attempt is really to isolate people in the south to make a
03:28life unbearable there so that they are
03:30forced to leave this is evident in the fact that a lot of the bridges over the latani river and
03:36have been bombed for
03:38example around 150,000 people are now isolated according to the UN it appears that the aim of the Israelis
03:46is to
03:46block aid from coming in to block food and water they've also been targeting health facilities health workers to really
03:55try and
03:55push people out to not give them a choice at all in the matter
