00:01Jordan Pickford has paid tribute to the Football Foundation and local team Washington envelopes in the North East for the
00:09start they gave him in his football career.
00:12Pickford has been England's number one goalkeeper, picking up 81 caps to date and helping the three Lions reach two
00:20European Championship finals and a World Cup semi-final.
00:24He's also broken numerous national team records along the way, including four consecutive tournament starts, consecutive clean sheets and shootout
00:33saves as well.
00:35At club level, Pickford has been an absolute stalwart for Everton since joining them in 2017, missing just 12 league
00:44games in eight and a half years and playing a key role in maintaining the Toffees' top flight status in
00:51recent relegation battles.
00:54Of course, it all started in the North East for Pickford. The 32-year-old is Washington-born and came
01:00through the Sunderland youth ranks, playing 35 times for his boyhood club in 2016-2017 before moving to Merseyside.
01:09Pickford has said that Washington envelopes had been the start of his journey and that it had put him in
01:16the spotlight as a young kid to be scouted for Sunderland, giving him the opportunity to go there, get a
01:21trial, join the development squad and secure his first under-9 contract.
01:26Okay.
