00:07battle for her rights to be euthanized. 25-year-old Noelia Castillo received life-ending
00:13medicine after Spain's high court denied her family's appeal, which they filed when a medical
00:19body in Catalonia approved her request for euthanasia in 2024. Her parents opposed her
00:26decision up until the end and said the Spanish government had abandoned and failed their
00:31daughter by allowing her to die. The public battle has drawn widespread attention in Spain
00:37with divided opinions.
01:20Castillo struggled with psychiatric illness since she was a teenager and tried taking
01:25her life twice. The injuries she suffered from her second suicide attempt in 2022 left her
01:32unable to use her legs and in a wheelchair. Spain is among nine European countries with
01:37laws that allow people experiencing unbearable suffering to access assisted dying.
