Nigeria's electricity supply is in crisis, plunging millions into darkness. With installed capacity of 13,000 megawatts, the nation is generating less than 5,000, meeting only a fraction of its needs. This power deficit forces Nigerians into expensive self-generation, highlighting deep-seated issues from gas supply to liquidity.

This video explores the intricate challenges plaguing Nigeria's power sector. We delve into the structural problems from generation to transmission and the crippling financial debts that hinder progress. Understand why despite enormous potential, reliable electricity remains a distant dream for over 200 million Nigerians.

Discover the real costs of this ongoing power crisis and its impact on daily life. The reliance on costly alternatives like petrol, diesel, and solar underscores the urgency for reform. Could unlocking Nigeria's full generating capacity be the key to a stable and bright future?

00:00The electricity supply has been very, very poor and bad from the beginning of this year.
00:07Nigerians are shouting darkness everywhere.
00:11The power minister had to come out to apologize to all Nigerians about the epileptic power supply experienced in the
00:19country.
00:19The installed generating capacity is 13,000 megawatts, but we are generating less than 4,000, 5,000 megawatts.
00:28It was last year, 2025, that we generated over 4,000 megawatts and over 5,000 megawatts around December 2025.
00:38It didn't even last up to three or four days.
00:42Having that installed capacity, we are generating less than 5,000 for over 200 million Nigerians.
00:50This means we only cater for 20% of Nigerian needs.
00:56And these challenges are structured from gas supply to generation companies, transmission, and the liquidity challenges translating to trillions of
01:10naira in debt.
01:11This low supply has actually pushed Nigerians into self-generation, either the use of petrol, diesel, or even adoption of
01:23solar, which are more expensive than getting electricity from the grid.
01:30I'm very sure if all these are looked into, the country is going to experience a stable and reliable electricity
01:38supply.
