06:11to approach any given mission almost all missions there are a few exceptions but
06:17almost all missions you will have a small core of characters you have to
06:21select every time there will also be one or two optional characters you will need
06:26to select every time we haven't met all of those yet so we can't break down
06:30exactly how that works but there's each character will be bringing a range of
06:34skills so the characters you choose will define how you go about the mission when
06:39we were preparing this broadcast the developers sent me a walkthrough video
06:44and it was very different to the way I myself have approached this level I was
06:49genuinely taken aback by oh okay so you can do it that way I adopted a rather sort
06:56of more brute force clumsy approach and slower moving through but also that you
07:04can choose to sort of sneak through very slowly individually you can move your
07:08team round as a close-knit unit the team will always need to work together but
07:12how that manifests itself can be very different depending on the situation so
07:17yeah there's there's always more than one way to solve any given problem I guess I
07:22guess you go through the list of tasks within the map and that you know how you
07:28achieve these tasks exactly your objectives are quite high level you've
07:33got to in this mission you will have to disguise as a Jaffa general you will use
07:39that to reach the priestess who is going to conduct to the ceremony you will then
07:44knock her out impersonate the priestess you will conduct that ritual yourself
07:49whilst dressed as a priestess and the hopefully distracting the the bad guys as it were and so
07:57you can save the children those are your top level objectives how you go about that it really is up
08:03to
08:03you there are a few Easter eggs tucked away in there a few little tricks depending on what
08:10character you have so there's many ways to approach a mission that broad objectives are of course always
08:15to say one one thing that we were sort of looking at was we have to be careful in not
08:24spoiling too
08:25much of the story because exactly very nice to get very much of a narrative game so you would don't
08:29want to say so much about the story indeed so we pick this scenario for a reason you know
08:35what why was it that now this specific scenario is you know because it shows enough of the game and
08:40then we felt that it showed the game well it's an environment that we haven't showed
08:45before it's as you can see a nighttime setting this time around it showcased new characters it's it's a
08:54chronological progression from what we've shown before as well as we touched on briefly last time
08:59the the chronology of the game moves around quite a lot this this is a chronological progression from
09:05what we have seen before it's it's always been a nice looking level you will recall from early
09:12presentations we've done internally this this was one of the first levels we had that that looked good so
09:18it's always been a strong contender
09:21all right so Annie did something different now is she's gone through this cliff
09:26Annie has zoomed in here there's a cliff outpost overlooking where you need to be there's a lot of bad
09:34guys out there so
09:35so we have sent max up ahead here to take care of the the couple of troops who are who
09:41are manning
09:42manning the overlook and Max has done what Max does best and silently sneaking up to people I was
09:51distracted so I don't know whether these people remain alive or not I think so they are tied up
09:57but one other thing comes to mind is you know how hard is going to be you know the final
10:05game going
10:05to be is is it hard game you know for we've got a lot of Stargate fans out there who
10:10are you know
10:11looking for just some you know genuine entertainment right for me I would I would say it's the biggest
10:16challenge in getting the game completed the the number one thing in my in tray as it were balancing
10:21the challenge of um a stealth game to offer uh the level of complexity and difficulty that the people
10:28who enjoy these games want to play and offering a challenge for those players but also allowing
10:33people who want to engage with the game very casually just explore a new Stargate story and almost
10:39approach it from a narrative point of view um the game is large there's a lot of story to be
10:44told
10:45I I've been through it line by line that there's there's there's an awful lot yeah so we really do
10:50want
10:50to make the game accessible for for both of those uh groups of people it's absolutely the number one
10:57thing uh I want to achieve it's the first time I think in the Slytherin history where we uh almost
11:04get
11:05you know um attached to single characters right it's like you know we're used to talk about different
11:11types of games and this one is more about the story the characters and it's the first time we've got
11:16a
11:16heavily narrative driven game that's it's very narrative driven yes and as I just said there's
11:21an awful lot of uh story there MGM have been very involved in the approvals process they've been through
11:28every line and vetted it and uh that they were obviously insisting that it meets the standards
11:33um that we would expect from a well-respected property like Stargate uh we are we are telling
11:40uh yeah a long story here we we feel it's a good one with a a lot of twists and
11:45turns which of course
11:46we we don't want to reveal but there's no point in telling that that deep uh involving story if if
11:52people have to give up halfway through because they're they're stuck on a mountain ridge or in a
11:58Mayan temple or or what have you Sam is doing a good job there or not Sam's doing very well
12:04indeed
12:04um he's he's crouching in the bushes um we can see um a civilian there as civilians unless they see
12:12something explicitly bad going wrong um they'll just leave you um what happened there that's the
12:18zap gun the stun gun um which Sam carries so that will briefly stun um a Jaffa general which is
12:24your
12:24window of opportunity uh to to get up behind him and uh now he's nicely tied up get that memetic
12:31scanner
12:31going and there we go um you can see that Sam in the bottom left hand corner now um his
12:37his uh avatar
12:39in the bottom left hand corner is now in disguise um the the figure in the play field as well
12:45is uh
12:46is now in disguise um so you see these guys now they're chill yeah that's really good good job Annie
12:57uh smoothly done uh there is something a meeting of soldiers just hanging around
13:01that's not doing very much how bold are the guys now yeah oh you need some nerve to be uh
13:10to be
13:10crawling around in a camp certainly uh Annie is zooming in here to uh another Jaffa general you are in
13:16disguise so you you will see the eye icon uh above the Jaffa general's head uh essentially that means he
13:23is
13:23he is not fooled um by your disguise normal rules still apply uh so you can crouch crawl through the
13:31broken part of his view cone but if you're in the solid part of his view cone he's going to
13:35spot you
13:41so there's an awful lot going on here um mainly civilians you're you're in a civilian part of the world
13:47uh i think something went wrong i think Annie may be in trouble here there's another guy up around
13:58the corner and i think something i think he may have spotted you the other fan well that's good
14:04it's good we're live so basically how how does that so basically once you complete an objective you can
14:10restart from that objective well you can you can save pretty much anywhere it's it's a vitally
14:17uh it's a vitally important part of uh so Annie actually did this to show us how the save process
14:23works when we were setting up earlier i did say do make sure to fail a couple of times so
14:28it all looks
14:29real and you did very well on that so it kind of showcases what happens and uh i think that
14:34is objective
14:34achieved so this camp here uh so the next objective is to go to um svidra's house svidra is the
14:48uh priestess
14:51so you um you already know that your next objective is to get through the gate that we saw in
14:56the top
14:57right hand corner there that's been explained um in in audio in the fly pass at the start so that's
15:02part
15:03of your route uh onto the gate um so what is max doing all this time max is um well
15:12as sam would put
15:14it he's essentially loafing around but uh there max is over there um keeping an eye out on things um
15:22he will he will be there to clear the way for uh for sam when he comes through um so
15:27i i can see
15:29that on the bottom right hand corner you see the map and this what the screen is um looking at
15:36at the
15:37moment and it does look pretty big it it really is uh very big indeed um you i think even
15:44trying to
15:44speed run this when you know exactly what you're doing we wouldn't have been able to to fit it all
15:48into this uh time slot so we're expecting that each mission for an experienced player of games of of this
15:56type when coming to coming to the game for the first time it's probably going to take them at least
16:02an hour of at least an hour of challenge so we've we've got a a strong campaign we feel with
16:08a with a
16:08good amount of challenge in here um whilst um annie's trying to sort herself out there uh when when is
16:17the game going beta so the game is more or less feature complete at this point and everything that
16:24needs to be in there is in there um with the exception of a good amount of vo vo has
16:31been going
16:31in over the last couple of months um the vo also dictates uh a lot of the tutorial elements of
16:39the
16:39game all right so we're about a month away from having all that complete um at that point um i
16:45imagine
16:45we will look at it internally and uh and see what we think about it um but i would hope
16:50that we will be
16:51in a position to to be to this um at some stage in the summer it's coming it's coming relatively
16:57soon i really don't think it's we know that july is uh july is a big anniversary for sg1 is
17:03it july is
17:04i am uh quite frightened to remember 25 years i think from sg1 i can well remember watching it on
17:10television when it was a new thing and then suddenly that's 25 years ago so yes uh july is is
17:16indeed a
17:17uh a big date in the in the stargate calendar so it would be lovely uh to have something ready
17:23for
17:23then but of course we need to make sure that it's uh that it's ready for for public consumption
17:30i think something bad happened again yes i think i only got a bit casual there
17:36i think one of the um the cool thing is things i see about um about uh this game is
17:42that
17:43i mean for the first time i can see uh come on annie come on annie um i think you
17:52should be you
17:53should be popping out this tent guns blazing and killing everyone that's you're not going to get
17:59very far by guns blazing uh yeah we're uh that that's that's there are elements of violence you will
18:07always need to use there are elements of stealth you will always need to use how exactly you will go
18:12about that will uh will always be a part of uh part of the challenge we can see there that
18:18obviously
18:19a guard is alerted by uh seeing not just you but by seeing a a body on the floor there
18:23so
18:26so what happened there now well as annie was tying a character up uh one of the guards spotted something
18:34okay untoward going along there right now she's managed to she's managed to sneak off behind there
18:40whilst they were um concerned about the body okay now they've got no no real idea where to go they
18:47will continue to be irate for a while and come looking for her um however annie is going to trip
18:54the next cut scene um as a sort of useful point to escape from that that uh anger which she
19:01deliberately
19:01uh provoked there uh there's been something of a failure of communication here and the story takes a
19:08bit of a twist um so that's one of ours right i'm afraid so yes aha yes we were not
19:17expecting that it
19:18turns out that there is um a third agent in the mission um who is a tar a jaffa girl
19:23um whom we met
19:26again very briefly at the last home of war gamers as an uh an assistant uh to ever in mission
19:32two
19:32um as a jaffa she's um faster and stronger than the the towery characters the the earth characters
19:40um she is good at she can pickpocket characters she also has stun abilities she's a very accomplished
19:49climber she is good at luring people towards her planting lures and they're bringing characters
19:55towards her so yes she she too has her range of abilities okay what's your favorite character
20:02my favorite character i i must admit that i like the grizzled cynicism of max the sniper all right
20:08for some reason i find that quite relatable oh again i mean you've got lots of corpses around here
20:15well i it's a dirty business unfortunately um whilst you do have the option uh sam does have the option
20:23whilst dressed as a general to uh distract some of the foot soldiers with chit chat um it's not generally
20:28an
20:29option uh in in this game uh you you've you've got to dish out a fair bit of violence this
20:34is a very
20:35busy um a very busy mission there's there's an awful lot of uh an awful lot of bad dudes uh
20:41to be to be
20:42taken care of this is a night mission just just night and light of day and night just does it
20:48influence
20:48your how you play the game it doesn't night doesn't particularly know the challenges still remain the
20:53same uh it's not like you can creep around easily at night and just do what you want and and
20:58they
20:58have a field of vision only that far in front of them that that just doesn't really work from a
21:03gameplay perspective so uh the night thing is is more or less visual really just just showcasing a
21:09difference you will still be up against a sort of very a very similar level of challenge
21:14i i when this mission now we have three characters and this is mission number this is mission number
21:20three three right so in further into the game how many characters will you be controlling uh at the
21:26same time i think off the top of my head that there are never more than three to control at
21:30any one
21:31time um there might possibly be one of the later missions where you are controlling four um they've
21:37probably got the developers going mad in the chat at me at the moment but uh as i say there
21:42might
21:42possibly be one with four but uh there's a lot to take care of any character is almost inherently a
21:48risk a character is something that can be discovered uh so trying to manage four of those uh can be
21:54something of a challenge so uh three seems uh from our our testing so far to be about the reason
22:00it
22:01depends what comes up in beta of course yeah of course of course yeah so what's happening here now
22:05so what's happening here is um that attar is uh sneaking around um we have um i was again
22:13distracted i i think somebody has been blinded is that right uh so our sniper has blinded somebody
22:18with a with a flash bang from over there so they have a very narrow uh blue view cone there
22:24we go
22:25there's just an example um you can see if you bring up the view cone for that character maybe annie
22:29just
22:30to sort of illustrate um there you go well he's recovered now by the time i thought to ask but
22:36you can you can uh the sniper has an ability um not just to shoot people where you will leave
22:41a
22:41corpse it will be discovered if you can't get to it but he can fire a flash bang that will
22:45severely
22:46limit a guard's uh view cone for a few crucial seconds so allowing you to get past and obviously
22:52they'll be on a stage of high alert once they recover their vision all right all right so uh there
22:57are a
22:58number of new uh skills in play um which i think so just took a take a look at the
23:03ui there uh whilst
23:05we take a look at the scene so the ui you've got like on the left hand side you've got
23:11a list of
23:11characters you've got available selecting one of the characters will open their available kits or nobilities
23:17yes um you will all it's uh very clear to see who you're controlling you have the tab of three
23:23characters on the left hand side they all have a signature color okay uh one of one of
23:28of the uh peculiarities of slytherin is that uh we only hire colorblind producers
23:33it's company policy seemingly uh so we always make sure that uh even for colorblind people this
23:38this works well uh so each has their signature color so almost immediately you know who you're
23:44controlling uh you have a big uh avatar in the bottom left hand corner which shows you not just
23:50the character you're controlling but what state they're in whether they're crouching you can see
23:54you can see when max is holding his gun you can see when they're carrying a body we saw sam
23:59earlier
23:59who was um in in disguise for example you could see what he was disguised at so you always know
24:05what
24:05your characters are doing and your skills are in the bottom left hand corner um they're just mapped to
24:12uh a number of numbers each character has unique abilities it's not like everybody can stun and
24:19everybody can uh you know scan people's memories and and so on and so forth so um yes every character
24:25has their advantages and disadvantages i think the um i really always always love the uh the scenario
24:32art but um also you know starting to um i'm pleased to see that all the animations and such are
24:39really
24:39shaping up to you well yeah pretty high standard now i've been really pleased with the progress we've
24:44made uh particularly on our animation um recently uh we've made sort of huge strides on that um
24:50and even in the last few days as we've desperately got ready for this uh for this
24:55it's all easy when we receive this build what like 20 minutes before the much more much more than
25:0220 minutes we received it in time we downloaded it and it was all but we had like a number
25:08of b
25:08plans anyway b and c and d plan always it was the first thing i learned probably also about
25:1325 years ago is always have a plan b in this business especially if you're playing stargate
25:19so absolutely a lot will go wrong that that that is the nature of the game uh so you know
25:24you have
25:25to learn to manage that a lot of uh stealth games are always in your face and telling you to
25:31to
25:32save every 30 seconds and so on and we've chosen not to do that so far we didn't particularly like
25:38the way it works um again we'll have to see how that goes in in beta and see what the
25:43community
25:43think of that whether it's something they would prefer to see uh more up front or not so that's
25:48definitely something i'm looking forward to community feedback of i think the uh the other um
25:54thing uh you know i was i was looking at the different uh scenarios we've got and there's a lot
26:00of
26:01variety as well it's not like you know showing this doesn't give you a full idea of the game because
26:06the game has so many different situations varieties of landscapes and scenarios it's crazy right it
26:11really everything is different um everyone is is completely different we could we could do 14 15 of
26:18these home of war gamer events and showcase something different every time um yeah everything is is
26:26completely different but it doesn't feel like it's different for the sake of it each uh each different
26:31landscape brings different challenges it advances the story in a sensible fashion um bear in mind uh
26:38also the time loop mechanism on which we touched briefly in december you'll be able to go back and
26:44replay previous missions uh anyway so um it's not enough to have a small variation of level artwork style
26:52because you're already able to go back and replay those levels with new technologies and with new
26:58knowledge um to to get a new challenge out of those anyway so uh the variety in landscapes um it
27:06it
27:06really is fantastic i think i think it's one of the strongest features of the game yeah i think most
27:10of
27:11these usually most of these games have this you know repeat scheme right you know there's these types
27:18of games have a setting and you know almost the setting is dictating the landscapes the scenarios the
27:24characters and so on with stargate with the luxury of exploring different planets and absolutely as
27:30you were talking then i was thinking well our setting is the universe um but we've really seized
27:35that opportunity and uh and really made the most of that i think so uh you know the next level
27:41looks
27:41very different to this as does the one after the one of everything is is really very different and
27:46there are some i don't know whether we'll ever get to show them before uh before the game is public
27:51but
27:51i hope not we'll spoil all the story and uh that's uh there are some very very intelligent things
27:57they've done with the uh just the environmental design as well so it's not like every level has
28:02has cliffs and cliffs are always important there there are there are some levels that work in very
28:07different fashions because of the environments and i'm trying to think of a clever way to express
28:12that without revealing anything but i have not been successful no i i i think you've been i think you've
28:17been successful i think the the the cool thing that we have to i i always take away from stargate
28:23is
28:23that well i'm excited because it's the first narrative driven game it's the first time we uh we
28:29publish a game with such a deep um attachment to characters and and and and the story and such
28:36and i think this is really delivering on the stargate idea you know stargate is a narrative driven
28:42universe i've been very taken aback um by the depth of affection that people hold stargate in
28:48and how much it means to to so many people not just in the fan community but also at mgm
28:55and now at
28:56amazon as well there's there's a lot of love for stargate uh internally people are people are very keen
29:02that we make the best game that we can to do justice to the to the stargate community so uh
29:08yeah it's a big
29:09challenge uh big responsibility yeah we're talking about mgm we've got a um i got a video message from
29:17uh you know um a friend of ours at mgm so uh we're gonna we're gonna play that and we'll
29:24be right back
29:29hello my name is matt group and i'm the director of production for interactive games here at mgm
29:35we could not be more excited to be telling a new story with original characters set in the sg1
29:40universe through stargate timekeepers it truly has been a pleasure working with the team to bring
29:45this exciting new title to life today is a special day where you'll be able to see new details about
29:50the game we really hope you enjoy it
