00:02Fidelity Investments reached a proposed $2.5 million settlement in a class action lawsuit
00:07over an alleged 2024 data breach, according to Benzinga. A Massachusetts federal court
00:13granted preliminary approval on Monday. The lawsuit claims more than 155,000 account holders
00:19had personal and financial information compromised after unauthorized access to Fidelity systems.
00:25Exposed data included names, social security numbers, financial account information,
00:31and driver's license information. The breach occurred between August 17 and August 19,
00:372024, and customers were notified on October 10, 2024. Class members may receive up to $5,000 for
00:45losses, about $100 in cash payments, and two years of credit monitoring with $1 million in insurance.
00:51In a statement to Benzinga, Fidelity said it remains committed to protecting customer information.
00:57It stated the settlement avoids prolonged litigation and does not admit liability.
