00:00Ratings for games in this podcast are pending.
00:05Welcome back to the official Xbox Podcast, the only podcast coming to you from inside Xbox.
00:10And all this week, we are diving deep into games you've seen at the Xbox Game Showcase.
00:15If you want to watch the other episodes, definitely check them out at youtube.com slash Xbox, Spotify, or wherever
00:20you download your podcasts.
00:21And I have a very special guest co-host, I should say, with me today.
00:25The fans lover, the viewers lover, it's Tina Meany.
00:28Tina, how are you?
00:29I'm doing great. So excited for this kickoff of a really incredible week that you are hosting for us.
00:34So thank you.
00:35I'm cracking my knuckles. I'm getting ready. This is going to be a tough one, but I'm so excited.
00:38A fun one.
00:39Exactly. To your point, though, this is going to be an exciting week.
00:41We just came off of the Game Showcase, and now we're going to learn a little bit more about games.
00:46But we have a special guest with us today.
00:47We do. And even more special guests.
00:49And one of my personal faves is Keri Patel, Game Director on Avowed.
00:53Welcome back, Keri.
00:54Thank you so much. It's great to be here.
00:56Oh, man. You have been to the studio several times now.
00:59Yeah, exactly.
00:59It is such a treat that you spend so much time out here with us.
01:02We had you on Extended Showcase last year.
01:05We did an interview. This was after, you know, one of the very first forays into Avowed, so that was
01:09very exciting.
01:10And then we actually had you on this podcast with a slightly different visual design.
01:15The cheese couch is gone.
01:16The cheese couch is gone.
01:18Yes, exactly.
01:19We have a table.
01:19Jeff is very happy about that.
01:20We got some, like, you know, podcast mics now, which I'm very excited about.
01:24Very professional.
01:25Very professional.
01:25But yes, you were here to go deeper into some Extended Gameplay following Developer Direct, which was earlier this year.
01:32Incredible show, incredible viewing from the team.
01:34And it was so fun to get this deeper dive.
01:37So now we get to do that again, but following Showcase.
01:39That's right.
01:40Man, you are spoiling us in the audience.
01:42That's right.
01:43It's great to be here, and I'm definitely excited to show off what the team has been working on and
01:46excited to take a deeper dive into story today.
01:49Ooh, well, let's talk about that.
01:50So as Tina mentioned, after the Developer Direct, we had you on the podcast, and I just got to make
01:55a callback.
01:56Like, that was received so well.
01:57Like, it was just great watching the comments and everyone like, this makes me want to play the game.
02:01And so kudos to you and the team.
02:03I'm curious from your perspective and the team's perspective, since then, what's been going on?
02:07Like, I'm sure as you get closer to the release date, like, a lot of things are coming into play.
02:11So tell us a bit about that time.
02:13Yeah, it's a really exciting part of the development process because you've got so much that's so far along.
02:18You know, your content, your gameplay, your systems, and you're really just, you know, investing those final touches, that final
02:25layer of polish, like pushing everything to be as good as it possibly can.
02:29You know, trying to make smart decisions, not crazy ones.
02:32But yeah, it was great to see the reception after Developer Direct.
02:36One of the things that I know folks called out that we spent a lot of additional time on was
02:39refining that sense of hitting, which we're going to see some of in our footage today.
02:44So yeah, it's really just taking everything that's almost there and pushing it over the finish line and really getting
02:50to turn this into the game that we all on the team want to play as well.
02:53Yeah, and I just want to build off of that a little bit because we were talking about you before
02:56you all came.
02:57We were talking behind your back.
02:58But in a good way.
02:59Only good things.
03:00But like, I feel like to your point, Obsidian has this je ne sais quoi, to use my little French
03:05that I know very little of.
03:07It was that one statement.
03:08That was it.
03:08Yeah, that's really all I know.
03:10But no, it's like this something special that you all have where not only do you have the community aspect
03:15who love games, Grounded, Pentamint, all these great games, but also just the team, like the cohesiveness.
03:21I got to visit the studio a little bit late last year and just walking through the office, it was
03:25very evident why your games always come together and are just so great.
03:29It's just because you have that cohesive unit.
03:31So it's great that that time that you spent since then has been used just like polishing the game, like
03:36you said, and making it awesome.
03:37So I'm excited to play a little bit later.
03:39Oh, yeah, me too.
03:40But before we jump into the deeper dive gameplay, do you want to just set up for us both what
03:45Avowed is, just in case anyone out there doesn't know, but also what we just saw at the Xbox Game
03:51Showcase with the new trailer?
03:52Sure.
03:53So Avowed is an upcoming fantasy action RPG.
03:56For players who are familiar with the Pillars of Eternity games, this takes place in the same universe, but it
04:01is not a sequel.
04:02The style of gameplay is obviously very different.
04:05The cast of characters is mostly different, but we'll get to that.
04:09But yeah, it's basically just bringing our players to the world of Aeora with a really immersive action forward, really
04:15fun, fresh take on the Pillars world.
04:17And from the trailer we just saw now, we've met a few of our key characters.
04:20So part of what we wanted to do with this trailer is really set up for the player, the world
04:25you're stepping into, and the role you're stepping into, and also the choice that's in front of you for how
04:30you want to inhabit and live out that role in the game.
04:34So the very first voice that we hear from at the beginning of the trailer is the Emperor of Adir,
04:38your boss, essentially.
04:39He's sending you to the living lands to get to the bottom of this soul plague called the Dream Scourge,
04:44find out what's causing it, and find a way to stop it.
04:47The next person we hear from is Inquisitor Ludwine, who I'm very excited to have playing such a big part
04:52in Avowed.
04:53Players from Deadfire might remember her as a side character in one of our very interesting side quests, but in
04:59Avowed, she's pretty central.
05:00And her whole belief is that the Dream Scourge is really just symptomatic of larger problems, a larger sense of
05:07chaos and disunity and destructiveness at the heart of the living lands.
05:11And in the world of Pillars of Eternity, souls and essence, which is the stuff of souls, it manifests physically.
05:17And so she might be on to something.
05:19And then the very last person we hear from is Giada, who's one of the companions that we'll meet in
05:23our journey.
05:24And she's taking a different perspective.
05:26She's saying this chaos is part of who we are.
05:28It's part of what makes the living lands special.
05:31Don't try to tame it.
05:32Don't try to end it.
05:33Embrace it and cherish it and kind of nurture and tend to it.
05:37So, again, what that really sets up for the player is this is a big world.
05:41It's got adventure and danger, and it's also got a lot of choices to make.
05:45And it's going to be up to you to decide, you know, what it means to be the envoy of
05:49Adir in the living lands and what it means to set things right in this place.
05:53Yeah, so to your point, that kind of, like, obsidian formula, that player choice, and some of that moral intrigue,
05:59too.
05:59Like, what decisions are you going to make in a moment-by-moment?
06:01Yeah, and I think that's what players, as you said, like, that's what players really want.
06:05Like, they want to feel like they have some agency.
06:07They are going to be able to interpret the story that you all build and kind of act on that.
06:11And so, but let's get into the gameplay, because just like a little bit after Developer Direct, you've brought some
06:16new gameplay for us to watch.
06:17And so let's check some of this out.
06:19Tell us a bit about what we're seeing here.
06:20So we're going to start out in Emerald Stare, which is one of the regions you'll get to explore over
06:25the course of the game.
06:26We're not too far along, but we have here a lovely nighttime scene.
06:31I think this region in particular looks fantastic at night.
06:34Very stunning.
06:35Yeah, thank you.
06:37And here we have some Sporlings attacking Yotsli, who is going to be one of our other companions.
06:42And you were charging up, like, your bow and arrow there, and then you're also kind of trying to slice
06:47your way through what looks like some very thick top, top-heavy swirling armor here.
06:53And you're right.
06:53We are struggling a little bit.
06:55Yeah, they're giving you a run for your money here.
06:57We'll fix that.
06:58So part of the problem is we've just transitioned out of an earlier region, and so we haven't upgraded our
07:03gear yet.
07:04So if we look like we're struggling against these little mushroom guys, it's because we haven't upgraded our weapons so
07:10that they're really up to par with the enemies we're going to face here.
07:13So there's a lot of hacking and whacking, but we'll fix that in short order.
07:24So this is still fairly early into the game, too, the setting of Emerald Stare.
07:29Yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:30Nice.
07:31And then we have Yotsli.
07:32Yeah, she's a wizard.
07:34She's very fun.
07:36She's a little risque in a way that I think makes her a lot of fun to talk to.
07:41She's got some very good banters with the other companions.
07:44But, yeah, she's just a little lightning ball of a lot of personality.
07:48Yeah.
07:49You see the options here, by the way, also.
07:51One of the great things about your game is, of course, dialogue options.
07:54Tell us a little bit about how that's playing here.
07:56So you noticed with a couple of those that we had a little symbol at the front of those options.
08:01So as this is an Obsidian game, some of the options available to you are dictated by choices you make
08:06at character creation, choices you make as you level up your character.
08:10So some of them are tied to specific attributes.
08:12Some of them are tied to specific backgrounds that you choose at the beginning of the game.
08:16And a lot of those will really, you know, in different cases, either add some different flavor of personality or
08:20possibly a different outcome to that conversation.
08:24Here we're really getting to know her as a character.
08:26And so, you know, we're just kind of choosing the tonal direction of this conversation.
08:31She's a little, yeah.
08:32She says you're tall, striking, and well-toned.
08:34It is like she's flirting with us.
08:36Yeah, so what would happen if we pass the conversation check for the flirtation option, which I assume is this
08:41first one.
08:42Yeah.
08:42Well, you'll have to see in a bit.
08:44But, yeah, if you flirt with Yatsley, she will flirt back.
08:48She seems like a flirtatious type.
08:50If you keep encouraging her, she's going to climb you.
08:53Oh, careful, darling.
08:56I already have a lover, a good one, skilled with his hands.
09:00He always carries a ladder.
09:02She rebuked me.
09:03Oh, no.
09:05Well, you know what?
09:05Maybe, yeah, maybe you keep trying.
09:07Dialogic.
09:08Yeah.
09:08But, no, like visually speaking, like I think this is the first time you all are also showing like gameplay
09:13at night, right?
09:14Yeah, so we do have a dynamic time of day.
09:17And, yeah, our environments have some very lovely looks at different times of day.
09:22We've definitely shown a lot of daytime footage.
09:24We've shown some golden hour footage.
09:26But, again, Emerald Stare looks really stunning at night.
09:29It's very colorful, very lush.
09:31We've got all the fungi.
09:33And then one thing we're going to see as we come over the hill here is all of this equipment
09:37that the animancers of the town of Fjord have made.
09:40And so animancy in the world of Pillars of Eternity is basically soul science.
09:44It's about studying and manipulating the essence that makes up souls and the essence that is ambient in the ether.
09:50Quite controversial in the world.
09:52Yes, it is, which is something we get into in this region.
09:56But, yeah, so this is a little enclave of animancers who are kind of free to study, you know, outside
10:02of the, you know, the watchful eye of any larger authority here in the living lands.
10:07But, yeah, what it means aesthetically is they have this really lovely equipment with this wonderful purple glow that just
10:13looks great at this time of evening.
10:14Yeah, 100%.
10:15And so they are also impacted by the dream scourge as well.
10:19They are.
10:20Yes.
10:21They've discovered something wrong in the ether and you're coming here to sort of see what the animancers have figured
10:27out.
10:28All right.
10:28And now I'm looking at this.
10:29It looks like we're heading into the party camp.
10:32Can you tell us a little bit about what this area is and its significance for the player?
10:35Yeah, so party camp is one of my favorite spaces in the game.
10:39It's both your narrative hub and also your upgrade hub.
10:42We can see here, I'll just call out.
10:44Third person, yeah.
10:44Yes, we do have third person.
10:46A lot of the footage we're going to see today is in first person, but we do have a third
10:50person option for players who prefer it.
10:52But, yeah, in party camp, that's where you'll get to know your companions better.
10:56You can kind of get to know their backstories and sort of, you know, get to know them better as
11:01individuals.
11:01You can also hear them getting to know one another through their banters at camp, which is always super fun
11:07to eavesdrop on.
11:08And it's also where we can upgrade our gear.
11:10So we've got our party stash where we can stow a lot of extra equipment.
11:14We've got our upgrade screens.
11:15And here's where we're taking some of our older gear that we picked up in the previous region.
11:20And we're going to upgrade it so that we're better equipped to fight the enemies here.
11:23Yeah, spoorlings.
11:25Yeah, we're coming back.
11:26We're going to be way better.
11:27But I want to touch back on what you said around the banter with your companions.
11:32I've always found that, like, in those kind of camp areas and games just in general, like, that's where I
11:37love.
11:37And I love that you all are including banter between the other companions because that makes it feel more alive.
11:43Like, you're just listening to the banter.
11:46But is there conflict between some of the companions?
11:49Yeah, they have different takes on the Dream Scourge and, like, what you should do with it.
11:53Exactly.
11:53So what can we expect to hear when we're listening eavesdropping in on the banter?
11:56So you'll hear a lot of different things.
11:58You know, one thing we really wanted to create with Party Camp was this sense that, you know, you're adventuring
12:03and exploring together through this big wilderness, all these different landscapes.
12:07And Party Camp is this quiet space where you can all kind of huddle together, share a moment of respite.
12:12And, you know, the pace and the tone of everything is a lot slower and quieter.
12:15So some of the banter is going to be kind of quirky and fun as these characters get to know
12:20each other and kind of dig into their different personalities, their different eccentricities.
12:25Some of it's going to be a little more somber as they, you know, kind of reflect on different events
12:29that y'all have seen, different things y'all have gone through together.
12:32And then, yes, as you get to harder decisions in the game, there are going to be moments of conflict
12:37where they disagree on what the right course forward is or they disagree on maybe actions that you've taken up
12:43to this point.
12:44And they're kind of hashing it out with one another.
12:45So it's really just where these characters get to come to life a lot more.
12:49So you're going to be judged the whole time.
12:51No.
12:52Because I'm a controversial king.
12:53We're going to be picking some controversial decisions.
12:55So I'd love to see that.
12:56I love that kind of banter, too, because I know in my heart the decisions I want to make.
13:01But absolutely, the more connected I get to certain companions or characters, they can totally influence by their judgment.
13:07Yeah, that's a good point.
13:07Their global judgment.
13:08Yeah.
13:09So I'll sometimes, you know, start to actually take that into account.
13:11I love the party camp moments, sitting by a campfire, and certainly getting stronger.
13:16Yeah.
13:16Which my understanding is we're picking up some, not just upgrading some of our weapons, but also picking up some
13:22new skills, which you can do in this party camp kind of downtime, too.
13:26Yeah.
13:27So you can upgrade your skills and abilities anywhere as you level up throughout the course of the game.
13:31That's one of the things we're doing right now.
13:34So on certain level up milestones, we'll get to upgrade our attributes, which we just did.
13:38And on every level up milestone, we'll get to pick a new ability.
13:41So in this playthrough, it seems like we've got a couple points sitting in reserve.
13:45So we're spending these on different abilities in our different trees.
13:48And one of the really fun things about the way these are set up is you can really mix and
13:52match freely between them.
13:53So if you want to be all wizard, you can, you know, build entirely throughout that skill tree.
13:59If you want to mix and match, make a battle mage or make, you know, someone who can be a
14:03little stealthy in certain moments and a little more aggressive in others, you have a lot of freedom to do
14:07that.
14:07Sounds like me.
14:08Yeah, I like that one.
14:08I'll take that one.
14:09Yeah, yeah.
14:10So we've seen a lot of Tanglefoot in previous trailers.
14:12And I think we just unlocked Fanta Flames, which will help us get through these brambles, right?
14:17So we're not only stronger, but now we can actually progress in the environment in Emerald Stare with a little
14:22bit more skills at our hands.
14:24Yeah, we wanted to try to, you know, as much as possible, give the different abilities that players can pick
14:30up, you know, obviously solutions in combat, but also solutions in exploration.
14:35And so, you know, there's almost always more than one way through a particular barrier, but you'll have, you know,
14:42weapons, your own abilities, spells, weapon enchantments, sometimes even your companions who can, you know, use their environmental abilities to
14:50help you get through barriers like that, again, as you build the character you want to play.
14:55Okay, so we've, now that we're coming out of the camp, we've upgraded our equipment, we've upgraded our swords, so
15:01theoretically these guys should be easier now.
15:03Yes, and you'll notice it's taking fewer hits to bring them down, yep, they are flying.
15:08Look at him, he barely stood a chance.
15:10Yes, we've got some nice blood effects as we're slicing through them.
15:13Yeah, so is that like new animation as well, new sound effects and animation as you're kind of upgrading your
15:18swords and other items?
15:19Yeah, we want to make sure that players are getting clear feedback as to when their gear is effective and
15:23when maybe they need to go back to camp, so it looks, it feels, it sounds different when you're playing
15:29with appropriately leveled gear.
15:30And this guy's a little different looking, what's his deal?
15:33Yeah, little spikes.
15:33So this is a caster, so, you know, all of our enemy families will have different unit types among them,
15:39and we've seen a lot of these little melee spoilings who just run at us, and it's very cute, actually.
15:43It's one of our favorite little animations on the team.
15:46But you also have these caster units that can obviously attack you from a distance, do quite a bit more
15:51damage, and we have a few other unit types who we haven't met yet, but we're going to try to
15:55take this guy out because he's a little more dangerous than the small guys.
15:59Yeah, taking a few more hits than them.
16:01So when you build up enough stun on an enemy, you can kind of queue up an attack like that
16:05that does a lot of extra damage, and will also, if it doesn't take them out outright, it'll at least
16:10give you some distance from them.
16:12So those are great to get if you can.
16:14Nice, and a little bit more traversal here, which I love to see.
16:18Adds that verticality that we love, that allows players to, I guess, discover new things in the game, and maybe
16:24some hidden things?
16:25Exactly. Yeah, it's a very fun mechanic to be able to build content around, because, like you said, you can
16:30really reward your curious players by hiding a lot of secrets, a lot of fun, a lot of storytelling, and
16:36nooks and crannies throughout the levels.
16:38And we did just pick up that godless vase, so we've got our item that Yatsli's been asking us for.
16:44Yes.
16:44So can you remind us, too, as we're, looks like we're approaching her now, actually, so what we're kind of
16:49exchanging here.
16:50Yeah, so Yatsli is a scholar of the godless, and the godless are the ancient people who used to inhabit
16:56the living lands.
16:57They have been gone for many, many, many, many years, but we see their ruins throughout the different regions of
17:03the living lands.
17:04So Yatsli studies them.
17:06They are called the godless because they are not recognized as worshipping in their art any of the gods of
17:11Aeora that people know of.
17:14So we're giving, she wanted this artifact as, you know, part of her studies, so even without a ladder, we
17:19were able to fetch it for her.
17:22Oh, and we just saw a quick flash of ourselves, actually.
17:25And we are, actually, if you could explain, too, because we are godlike.
17:29Yes.
17:29We are almost the opposite of Yatsli in that way.
17:32Yes.
17:32So what does that mean in the world of, like, the universe in general, and why we look the way
17:38that we look here?
17:38Sure. So in the world of Pillars of Eternity, a godlike is a member of any kith species whose soul
17:45has been touched in some way by one of the gods.
17:48You can play as a godlike in Pillars 1 or Deadfire.
17:51In Avowed, you are definitely a godlike.
17:54And being a godlike will manifest in a number of different ways, but one of them is you usually have
17:59a unique physical appearance that manifests in some way on your face and or head.
18:04Now, with Avowed, you can choose exactly what that manifestation looks like.
18:08Like, this like and like growth is one of your options, but you will have some that are a lot
18:12bigger and more dramatic, and you'll also have some that are a lot subtler.
18:16You know, but either way, you have a connection to one of the gods.
18:19The thing that's unique about you is you don't know which one.
18:22And most godlikes of Aeora, it's very well known, you know, which god they share a lineage with.
18:28For you, it is a mystery, and that's one of the things you'll get to explore in your journey through
18:33Avowed.
18:34Yeah, and I love the customization, because I think just generally speaking, people love to customize the character they want.
18:39So maybe, again, like you go a little bit more obvious here, or maybe you go a little subtle.
18:43Are we going to see like players or not players, but like other people in the world, like reacting to
18:48sort of your godlike appearance?
18:50You will, because it is very unique.
18:53And there aren't many godlikes left in the world of Aeora.
18:55So you're doubly unique in this case.
18:58Oh, nice.
18:59I'm going to be showing it out.
19:00I'm going to be like, yeah, I'm a godlike.
19:02All right?
19:03So treat me as such.
19:04Well, so some people think that's very cool.
19:07Some people think it's very spooky.
19:08So, you know, different cultures and individuals have different ways of relating to godlike.
19:13So you might get some, you'll get a number of reactions.
19:17And that's the thing is that godlikes are quite rare.
19:19So they are kind of intrigued by it when they see you and they recognize that you are different.
19:23Correct.
19:23Yeah, now Yatsui is sending us somewhere else, right?
19:27So we've gotten her vase.
19:29She's going to return to her studies.
19:31She will join our party at some point, but not right away.
19:34Okay.
19:34Yeah.
19:35So this is a quest that takes place along the crit path in Emerald Stare.
19:39So you can tell we're still in the same overall region.
19:42So we're working with one of the Anomancers in the town of Fior.
19:46And he's going to try to help us diagnose what's going on with the living lands.
19:50But in order to do that, he needs the heart of an Odragon.
19:53And an Odragon is essentially a nymph with, you know, sort of the skin and appearance of Odra.
19:59And he needs, you know, the heart for the essence that it contains.
20:03So he's sent us into this glade to go retrieve this heart.
20:07This glade is inhabited by a bunch of Delamgan who, as you can see, are a lot more dangerous and
20:13a lot more aggressive than the spoilings we encountered.
20:16You know, Delamgan in the world of Pillars are fairly territorial.
20:21So we're kind of bringing this on ourselves.
20:23He did warn us that they wouldn't take kindly to us just marching through their territory.
20:27And we might have an easier time of it if we can avoid conflict.
20:31But conflict's also fun.
20:32So in this case, we're just, you know, swinging our sword and going on in.
20:35And you're right about them being a little bit harder to take down.
20:38We are definitely having to utilize everything in our arsenal here to take them down.
20:43Yes, yes.
20:44And you're seeing a few different unit types here.
20:46We've also got casters.
20:48These have some very long kind of whippy arms that they can get us at a medium distance with and
20:52a little area of effect attack.
20:54But they do eventually go down.
20:56But like you said, it takes more work.
20:58Yeah.
20:58Now we're approaching what I'm assuming is a very special character.
21:01Can you tell us a little bit about?
21:02Yeah, so this is the Delamgon queen.
21:05She has the Odregon heart.
21:06And I'm sure she'll be super cool with how we just mowed through her followers.
21:10What could go wrong?
21:11We have to do what we have to do, right?
21:12She's queen of no one now.
21:14That's right.
21:15We'll take everyone out, right?
21:16Oh, let's see what she says.
21:17Uh-oh.
21:18But wait, no.
21:20Yep.
21:20She can sense what we've done.
21:22And she's not happy about it.
21:24So many of my kin are dead by your hand.
21:29And the time for words has passed.
21:35It's a good thing we like fighting because we're going to fight some more now.
21:38Yeah.
21:38Yep.
21:39Hello.
21:40The backup forces have arrived and now we're in trouble.
21:44But we're going to leave that a little mystery, right?
21:46I'm assuming.
21:47Yes.
21:48I want to give everything away.
21:49So what are we looking at here?
21:50This is us kind of respeccing kind of how our character plays, right?
21:53Yes.
21:54So if you find that you want to try out a new suite of abilities, if you want to approach
21:57a particular piece of content like this one in a different way, you can respec.
22:02And you might have seen popping up at the beginning of the screen here.
22:05There is a cost to doing so.
22:07But if you're willing to pay it, you can try out a whole new set of abilities.
22:10So what we're doing now is we're specking into a lot of ranger related abilities.
22:16And I think a couple of wizard ones as well.
22:18So the most important one of these is shadowing beyond, which is a level five ranger ability.
22:24And what that does is it gives us the ability to essentially kind of open up a rift in the
22:28here, which is the physical world and travel through the beyond, which is kind of the invisible
22:33spiritual world in order to move through the environment.
22:37So what this means is that as long as we don't engage them, these characters can't see us.
22:42And as long as we keep our essence meter up, this ability will remain active.
22:46So this one is constantly draining our essence, which is the soul energy that we use to power
22:51our special abilities and our spells.
22:54You can see we're passing some cover grass as well.
22:57So if we wanted to be a little more conservative with our power usage, we could duck into that
23:01grass, kind of watch the patrols and avoid using this ability quite as much.
23:05But in this case, we're going to use it to get to this little safe nook right here.
23:10So if you're an expert stealther, you could possibly do this section in stealth without
23:14that ability.
23:16Just with the grass.
23:16Just sneak it around.
23:17Challenge accepted, right?
23:19Yeah.
23:19And here we're re-upping on our potions so that we can build up essence.
23:24Yeah.
23:24Exactly.
23:25So yeah, we're going to continue.
23:27And we've also found a little side route here.
23:28So again, we like to offer different ways for players to approach our content, especially
23:34big potential fights like the one kind of in the glade here.
23:38So this is a little side path that you can see still has some enemies in it, but for a
23:42player who's very careful and either willing to use that cover grass or, you know, willing
23:47and able to use shadowing beyond, they can get through without causing a ruckus.
23:51So if you fight this spoiling, will the others be alerted to it or could you get away with
23:55like one kill and then...
23:57It depends how close they are.
23:58So they do have a shout radius, but it is not infinite.
24:01So if there isn't anyone close by and if you're pretty fast, you might be able to get
24:05away, but you can see there's one right there.
24:07You never know who's hiding in a little nook.
24:09Exactly.
24:09I'll kick that one off the cliff.
24:11It's like, get out of here.
24:12But I'm excited to see players, how they tackle it, because I'm sure there are going
24:15to be people who decide not to use the essence at all and like really like want to show
24:19their mastery of that stealth aspect.
24:21And so here we are heading...
24:23It's always a trade-off, right?
24:25It is.
24:25You know, do you want to loot all the dead bodies or do you want to take the peaceful
24:29path and possibly open up some other dialogue options, which tends to be how I play.
24:34Ah, a welcome visitor.
24:38It has been so long since one of your kind has walked in this grove.
24:45You know, in this case, the Delamgon Queen has recognized that we haven't killed all of
24:49her followers.
24:49And so there's a little more of an opportunity to talk with her.
24:54She recognizes that we are godlike.
24:56She might even recognize what kind of godlike we are.
24:59But yeah, in this case, she will give us the heart willingly and she'll allow us to leave
25:04the glade peacefully because we chose.
25:06And she's quite an ancient being.
25:07So there's a lot that she knows.
25:09You mentioned that, you know, she might even know where we come from.
25:12She might.
25:12Yeah, yeah.
25:12Of course, the thing is, you know, Delamgon are, like you said, they're very ancient.
25:17They're not really part of Kith society.
25:20So it's hard to get too many straight answers out of them sometimes.
25:24Yeah, there's some vagaries in there, but enough to kind of pique our interest.
25:28But then she gave you the heart and she said, take it and go in peace.
25:31Yeah, exactly.
25:32And there you go.
25:32We came in peace and we left in peace.
25:34Boom.
25:34Look at that.
25:35Peace.
25:35Rules.
25:37Sometimes.
25:38Well, I think that's all the gameplay that you and the team brought out here today.
25:42Thank you again so much.
25:42It's been so insightful and such a fun opportunity to walk through it all step by step with you.
25:47Yeah, I mean, like we talked about it a little bit after developer direct, but like the trailers
25:51that you all make are always so great.
25:53But then getting to like talk to you and see what the team has built and delivered, especially
25:57for the Xbox podcast is always great to see and dive deeper into those details, dialogue
26:02options, how you tackle a game.
26:03Like all those things are so important for us to see, like how we're going to be playing the
26:06game when it releases.
26:07Yeah, so much detail and intricacies.
26:09But is there anything else that you want to leave the audience off with before we sign
26:13off on this episode?
26:14Well, really excited for players to experience this game for themselves.
26:18Again, the team's been working really hard to just really put the rest of the experience
26:23together, get it all polished, get it across the finish line.
26:26And we're all really stoked to see how players fill that player-shaped hole at the middle of
26:31our game and what kind of role they choose for their envoy and how they choose to solve
26:35the conundrums in the living lands.
26:37Us too.
26:38I know.
26:38Cannot wait.
26:39Carrie, thank you so much for stopping by.
26:41Please give the team our best and excited to see the game a little bit later on.
26:45And with that, that wraps up today's avowed episode of the official Xbox podcast.
26:49But of course, we've got a lot of others, very special episodes for you to check out
26:53later this week.
26:54Here's the schedule and we're looking forward to welcoming more guests and developers from
26:58around Xbox.
