00:03No matter what you call them, the enemies of Rainbow Six Extraction are a deadly threat.
00:09And if you and your squad hope to survive, then you need to know what you're up against.
00:14In this episode of our Rainbow Six Extraction Deep Dive series, we're talking tactics.
00:19What attacks and abilities the different Archeans will throw at you,
00:23and what strategies you and the crew can use to take them down.
00:30First things first, you gotta watch out for the ones that just run up to you and explode.
00:34What kind of game plan is that?
00:36A surprisingly effective one, as it turns out.
00:39The ones with the big red pustules on their back are breachers.
00:43Their passion in life is to explode you, your friends, and any reinforcements or barricades you may have put up.
00:51Overachievers.
00:54Their cousins with the green pustules are bloaters.
00:57They have a grosser name, and they release a poisonous gas that damages you and obstructs your vision,
01:03and probably leaves you with lingering respiratory problems.
01:06You'll want to shoot both of these from a safe distance,
01:09and if they get too close, melee them so they fall over and die at a safe distance.
01:15Here's a tip.
01:16If you can take out a breacher without exploding their boom sack,
01:19then you've got a handy little trap just waiting to be shot when other enemies shamble on by.
01:25Breachers have a way of appearing at just the wrong time,
01:29so take Doc along on the squad for a quick health shot after any close encounters,
01:34and bring Smoke or Capitao to deploy toxic gas to stop these parkour-happy pests.
01:43Now, not every Archie is so eager to make your acquaintance.
01:47Take the Sower.
01:48This little creep hunkers down and scuttles around the joint on all fours, making it tough to spot.
01:54Its armored head foils head-on assault, and if you pursue it,
01:59you might just trigger one of these little mines it leaves behind, and this will happen.
02:04Keep an eye out for those mines, and respond in kind with a Claymore or Archmine
02:09to surprise the Sower as it skirts around your squad.
02:15Then there's the Lurker.
02:16Loves to be invisible.
02:18Loves to make its friends invisible.
02:20This is creepy and should not be allowed, but here we are.
02:24The Lurker will come at you,
02:26and when it does, smack it with a melee attack to reveal its weak point and shoot it quickly.
02:31Otherwise, the armor goes back up, your bullets aren't really effective,
02:35and you'll have to call in Hibana with her armor-busting ex-Kairos explosives to get the job done.
02:44With evasive enemies like these, it helps to have an intel operator along for the incursion.
02:49So, bring IQ to help pin down your foe's location.
02:53Take out my target.
02:54Of course, there are some enemies who are less subtle than others.
02:59Meet the Smasher.
03:00The Smasher can't help it that they have big, stompy footsteps.
03:04It's not their fault that they're covered in formidable armor, yet move with an alarming speed.
03:09The way I see it, you have two options.
03:12Option one, overwhelming force.
03:15Sledge uses a charged-up hammer swing to stagger the Beastie,
03:18and Tachanka unloads on it with his mounted LMG.
03:22Option two, distract and flank.
03:24Smoke or stun grenades can keep the Smasher from charging,
03:28while someone scurries around the Behemoth and delivers the fatal melee takedown.
03:33You know, it almost makes you feel bad for the big bluff, doesn't it?
03:37No, it doesn't.
03:38I mean, come on.
03:40Look at the tactics these Archies are out here using.
03:42Have you seen the Rooter?
03:44This jerk scurries around on tippy-toes,
03:46trying to literally root you in place with this ranged rooting attack.
03:51I appreciate the commitment to the bit,
03:53but getting stuck in place in extraction is bad, bad news.
03:58You'll have a better chance of surviving sticky situations,
04:01with armor plates from Rook propping you up.
04:05And if you've got Vigil in play,
04:07activate his cloaking ability to skirt around and uproot the Rooter.
04:11When in doubt, a quick paralysis grenade can freeze the Rooter before it strikes,
04:17and give you the window you need to take it out.
04:19There's a big benefit to taking out Archaeans before they get going.
04:24Have you perhaps heard this sound before?
04:27This is the sound of an Archaean getting all worked up
04:31and hollering for its friends to come through.
04:33Not only will this ominous screeching bring other Archies a-running,
04:37but it will also awaken any nearby nests.
04:41Nests are these big blobby things, and normally they don't do much at all.
04:45But when they hear a howl, they start cooking.
04:49Oozing out more of that operator-hindering, Archaean-accelerating sprawl that we all know and hate.
04:56And eventually, birthing a full-grown enemy into the world to kill you.
05:01Pro tip, meleeing a nest to take it down will remove any sprawl that's around it.
05:07Meleeing a nest to take it down after you've lured your teammate below it
05:11will remove their entire self-esteem.
05:15Aw, you know that stuff smells so bad.
05:18Now, a lot of the time, awakened nests will issue forth grunts.
05:22Which, you might think, hey, no big deal.
05:25Easy headshot.
05:26But if a grunt lands two or three solid hits on you,
05:29you're downzo, bud.
05:30Don't sleep on grunts.
05:32And if the nests are popping out spikers,
05:34well then, now you've got a whole lot of projectiles coming your way.
05:38Possibly from behind destructible surfaces,
05:40which, like, I thought was our whole thing.
05:43Plus, while they're shooting you,
05:45spikers put their armored forearm up in front of their face
05:49to make headshots trickier to land.
05:51Give yourself some cover by throwing down a field wall to block projectiles.
05:56Or have your pal Jaeger deploy one of his active defense turrets to intercept them.
06:01By now, you're starting to see how,
06:04with even a few different Archaeans in the mix,
06:07the potential for finding yourself in a bad situation multiplies.
06:11And this is amplified as the difficulty increases,
06:14which happens in a couple of ways.
06:16The second and third objective on any given incursion
06:20will increase in difficulty.
06:21Incursions in later regions will be more difficult than ones in earlier regions.
06:27And while any of these increases will mean better rewards for doing the deed,
06:32there's also a better chance you'll meet some of the nastiest Archaeans out there.
06:36Like the sludge.
06:39Oh, the horrible insidious goo.
06:43Behold its slimy malignance as it multiplies
06:46and sprouts loathsome little legs.
06:49This abomination is actually not that dangerous at all.
06:53It's just super gross.
06:56Now, the tormentor.
06:59There's a nasty piece of work.
07:01This enemy will bombard you with projectiles,
07:04liquefy itself into an inky bubbling blob,
07:08quickly reposition,
07:09and then pop back up for more bombardment.
07:13It is perhaps the most evasive enemy in the game,
07:16so you'll need to focus on nailing it down first.
07:19Stop it from burrowing by carpeting the area with Gridlock's track stingers.
07:24Then, set up one of Ella's stunning Gersmot mines on your flank
07:28in case it gets past you,
07:29and put an end to the Tormentor's Torment.
07:33And speaking of Torment,
07:35can we just talk about blinding spores for a second?
07:38These festive little fellas will reach out and stick to you
07:40and eventually burst to do mild damage,
07:43which isn't that bad.
07:44But they also majorly obstruct your vision.
07:48And when they're piggybacking on every enemy
07:51because your incursion has the blinding spore carrier mutation active,
07:55it can be so bad.
07:57Get your buddies to melee or shoot them off of you.
08:01And if that's not an option,
08:02Nomad's Airjabs can clear them as well.
08:05Do not let them linger,
08:06because you have bigger fish to fillet.
08:10Namely, the Apex.
08:12The enemy so inimical it spawns more enemies,
08:16in addition to zipping around the area
08:18and blasting you with massive blinding projectiles.
08:21When asked to pick a lane,
08:23the Apex simply said yes.
08:25And now it's out here creating a whole mess of problems
08:28on purpose,
08:29and it's not gonna stop.
08:31Use Lion's EE1D drone scan
08:34to make sure you don't lose sight of the Apex.
08:37And throw down some of Alibi's Prisma decoys
08:40to draw both projectiles
08:41and new enemy hordes
08:43away from your squad.
08:45Finally, have Finca activate her Adrenal Surge
08:48to clear any blinding effects
08:50and reduce the team's recoil
08:52so you can focus fire
08:53and remove the Apex threat.
08:57But it's not over yet.
08:59There's one more kind of Archean
09:01that you can encounter.
09:02And to meet them,
09:03you'll have to get a gateway objective.
09:06And then locate the large orb
09:08and then...
09:08go...
09:09into it?
09:10There you will find a Protean.
09:13A Protean is like if a malevolent
09:16yet unfathomable alien intelligence
09:18tried to create an extraction operator
09:21out of materials
09:22they had laying around
09:24their creepy alien workshop.
09:26And they succeeded.
09:27But, like, in a bad way.
09:30For you, specifically.
09:33The enemies of Extraction
09:35are a varied and vicious...
