00:03A heavy attack on the level!
00:33Hello and welcome to Other Voices. We're all here in Dingle having a ball.
00:38We have an amazing episode for you tonight. We're going to be over in the Imra Other Room named after
00:42a Smashing Pumpkins tune.
00:44It's the brilliant Annie Dog. And in St. James' church we have Miles Kane and Travi.
00:48But to start things off, it just gets you to de-robe for a minute. It's Chalk!
01:23Don't cut that cord. I'm hardly hanging on.
01:30There's been a knock at my door. They're gonna try and burn me down.
01:36And it's you that I'm gonna need. When the static is all I see.
01:42Just thank God I'm not gonna breathe. All the lies that are gonna bleed.
01:49And I've been searching for something to do. Just to keep myself right.
01:59Searching for something to do. Just to keep myself right!
02:19What's your truth? What's your fiction? Under my skin I was left behind. And I can hold myself.
02:32And I can hold myself.
02:33So start a shred. The green smile. The static has been taken from my broken eyes.
02:40And I can hold myself. And I can hold myself. Cause I've been searching.
02:48Searching for something to do. Just to keep myself right.
02:55Searching for something to do. Just to keep myself right!
03:19Searching for something to do. Just to keep myself right!
03:24Searching for something to do. Just to keep myself right!

09:00Travi, welcome to Other Voices Dingle, how are you doing?
09:02I'm good.
09:03And straight in the church as well.
09:05I'm a religious man, so...
09:07But Travi, it's not your first time with other voices, is it?
09:09No, it's not.
09:10The last time I played was the one that they did in rap.
09:13Bannum? Yeah, yeah.
09:14So that was, like, my first time performing to an older crowd as well
09:17because I'm used to, like, high-energy mosh picks.
09:19It was kind of fun.
09:20Because the energy's ridiculous.
09:22It's not strictly... It's not grime.
09:24It's not a drill. What do you call it?
09:26It's a little bit alternative.
09:27I call it feel-something music.
09:28Every time I get on a mic, like, the way I'm feeling
09:32and what I want to express is usually, like, it's like a release.
09:35And then I go back to being super chill.
09:37I started making music, what, just after COVID, I was bored.
09:41Me and my friends would go down to... We call it The Trenches.
09:43So it was, like, this little abandoned restaurant type of thing.
09:47And we just, like...
09:49I don't even know if I can... Can I say we're getting high?
09:52We were just getting...
09:55We'd smoke up, get high, and just freestyle.
09:58And then there was time... As time went on, my friends would be like,
10:00yo, you actually... You got some delivery.
10:02You actually... You should do this, seriously.
10:04But I wasn't really taking them in.
10:05And then we bought studio equipment.
10:07And then I started recording in my bedroom,
10:09just out of my wardrobe.
10:10Me, my brother, and Els.
10:12And then I remember I put out one song just on Instagram.
10:16And then it just went crazy.
10:17And I was like, you know what?
10:18I'm just going to keep doing this.
10:20And now we're here with you.
10:22That's work.
10:23And life is crazy.
10:24All right, this next song that we're playing,
10:27Forgive Me.
10:29Obviously, I'm living a life that's very...
10:31There's a lot going on, all that other stuff.
10:33I love making music, all the funny stuff that comes with it.
10:37But I'm a religious kid, so...
10:39So I ask God to forgive me every time.
10:41Do you need me?
10:43Go do what you want.
10:45Shawty don't need me.
10:46I don't mind if you don't.
10:49Father, forgive me.
10:50Forgive me, forgive me, forgive me, forgive me, forgive me, forgive me for the life I'm living.
10:53As long as the kid stays up and the peace stay up, they don't like how you're living.
10:57I like how I'm living, the shine I was giving.
10:59Top three, they don't like how I'm in it.
11:00But if it's not one, I don't like how I'm in it.
11:02Yeah, I'm selfish so far to forgive me.
11:04Forgive me, forgive me, forgive me, forgive me, forgive me, forgive me for the life I'm living.
11:08As long as the kid stays up and the peace stay up, they don't like how you're living.
11:11I like how I'm living, the shine I was giving.
11:13Top three, they don't like how I'm in it.
11:15But if it's not one, I don't like how I'm in it.
11:17Yeah, I'm selfish so far to forgive me.
11:21Girl, this super Travis nigga back on my phone
11:24Talking about he trying to see me and shit
11:26Like, bitch, I'm not even serious
11:29All he want is to get to the back

11:45Travis, stop

12:11She wanna suck with it
12:12She wanna suck an 80, 100 quid
12:14I want a million, please do not talk to the kid
12:16I'm feeling the confidence, they wanna stop on us
12:19They ain't on top of it, don't do the politics, please do not jump on the kid
12:21646, she's time to suck dick
12:23Listen
12:24You should only have God to forgive you, do me wrong, man, it's fucking forgiveness
12:28She never met a nigga like me before, she telling me fuck all you niggas
12:32I'm telling her God is my witness, I've been there before and the story was vicious
12:35I know that they say we are like we were never alike, it is for my niggas
12:39Poppin' my shit, take a look at that work, I'm seeing coppin' niggas
12:42She suckin' my dick and she puttin' in work, I think she love me, my nigga
12:45I know I'm the one and I'm blessed and I'm cursed, so I'll go young niggas
12:49Just head to the kid like no easy no verb, I think the pain got bigger
12:53I've been young and lit, but I think it's my time to be young and rich
12:56Do you all the kicks, change to the face, now you lookin' designer and shit
13:00I pick up my phone in a bit and I see y'all niggas tryna show me this shit

13:25Don't talk about me or my niggas no more, if change is a bullet, I'm holding a gun
13:29She holding me down like she holding a son

14:24Imro Other Room with Annie Dogg
14:26How long can you sleep inside me
14:32Let your back turn to me
14:34Guess I don't want the answer
14:38And I don't want the answer
14:46Who knew
14:50Who knew
14:55Who knew
14:56Who knew
14:57Who knew
14:57Who knew
14:57You lost before me
14:59And who will
15:01Know that once you've sent me off
15:04To my blue feeling
15:06It grew colder
15:08As the days grew by
15:10I might need some reminding
15:13Sweetness
15:14When was the last time
15:16That we kissed
15:18You and I
15:20Everything
15:24Do you know
15:27Your shadow
15:28Be tangled up in mine
15:34As I got older
15:37As I got older
15:44I'm no more
15:47Why
15:48Yes
15:51I
15:53I saw you
15:54Change
15:57I saw you
15:59Leaving me
16:00Behind
16:05And I
16:06And I
16:06Listen to you talking about
16:09Freedom
16:13And how you
16:15Let me down
16:21A piece of the stars
16:25That I
16:27That I
16:28Was happy
16:29And you
16:30Cause when I stood
16:33In the moonlight
16:35I got mine
16:37What did
16:39You think of me
16:41After I
16:43Spilled my head
16:49You
16:51Did
16:51I
16:53Can I
16:55Can I
16:58You
16:59To
17:01Can I
17:06You
17:11And all my wives
17:18And I saw you change
17:23And I listen to you talking about freedom
17:40And how you were leading
17:43A piece of the sauce
17:52But I was happy in your moonlight
17:58Cause when I started in the moonlight
18:02I got mine
18:10Who knew
18:13Who knew
18:19Demon by your shadow
18:24Detangled by my mind
18:39I heard about you through so many different places and people talking about this alternative dreamscape bedroom pop that you're
18:46making. Will you tell me a bit about your influences and how this music came together?
18:52Yeah, I mean, I find it sometimes hard to pinpoint exact influences. I love pop music. I love grunge as
19:00well. I don't know. It's easier for other people to tell me what I remind them of than it is
19:06for me to be like, oh, I'm influenced by.
19:07So what does it look like for you when you sit down to work on something? Where does it begin?
19:15It usually starts in a dark room with my laptop and headphones on. I do a lot of like chopping
19:24of drums first and so then I usually mess around on my guitar a bit and start layering vocals. It
19:31sounds kind of boring when you say it out. It sounds like clinical or something. But yeah, that's kind of
19:35how I make them.
19:36It doesn't sound boring at all. I always think it's like incredible that people create something that didn't exist before
19:42they chose to sit down. And yeah, and I always think that's cool. Even if after I finish making the
19:47song, I'm like, oh, that's never going anywhere. But it's like it's a fun process. Like, you know, so yeah,
19:54I don't really have like rules or anything. It's like, see what happens.
19:57There's nothing boring about that.
19:59Thank you, my care.
22:50Thank you, ma'am.
22:58Now, they sort of encompass and embody a lot of beautiful things about Belfast and its music.
23:04Please Go Wild for Charque.
26:06For about 10 minutes.
26:07But it's punk rock as we get.
26:08Yeah.
26:13Tell me about the album, the debut chalk record.
26:16Crystal Punk is the title that kind of felt right to us.
26:20I feel like it's the genre of like the album and that we kind of leaned into that a bit
26:24more.
26:24I think when we were doing the album, we kind of still had a lot of sounds and different
26:29ideas we wanted to kind of explore and discover along the way.
26:33And some of them can be quite contradicting to each other.
26:36So we kind of thought if we can call our sound in this album Crystal Punk, it kind of allowed
26:42us then to be a bit more creative.
26:44And, you know, like a crystal is quite hard and can be quite sharp, but also it's quite
26:49beautiful and reflective.
26:50So we kept saying that it all kind of clicked.
27:11So we kept saying that it all kind of clicked.
27:20We broke your wings.
27:21Just leave your last breath as for me.
27:25We can't go back.
27:27We can't relax.
27:29We can't go back to what we left.
27:33I just need you.
27:35I can't be there.
27:37We can't go back to what we...
27:42I feel your pain.
27:45It hurts because I'm not around.
28:06Well, show me, cause I'm useless
28:09Show me, show me, show me, baby, I'm so useless
28:15Hold me, cause I'm new to this
28:17Hold me, hold me, hold me, baby, I'm so useless
28:22Well, he had bones made a prick
28:24He had bones that were pure
28:26And I see clearly not that the steps stole your crime
28:30He was hit in the head and he dropped to the ground
28:34She looked up and asked herself, is there any God out of ground?
28:48I feel your pain
28:50It hurts cause I'm not awry
28:56But deep inside
28:59It hurts when you're not alive
29:26Yeah, bones made a prick
29:28Yeah, bones made a prick
29:30Yeah, bones made a prick
29:32Yeah, bones made a prick
29:34Yeah, bones
29:38Yeah, he had bones
29:40Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go
30:23Let's go, let's go
30:43Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go,
30:54let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go,
30:55let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go,
30:57let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go,
30:57let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go,
30:57let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go
31:11I won't be afraid, I won't be afraid of what comes next
31:15I need something, I need a split pill in my bleeding eyes
31:20I can't see that light, I need a little light inside of my own life
31:25Been wasted by God, guided by a darkness
31:28I won't be afraid of what comes next
31:31And I need something new, I just defend myself
31:34So we can find ourselves
31:35So we can find ourselves
32:25So we can find ourselves
38:38And the story of how you've landed at Other Voices, Miles, is just unbelievable.
38:43Can you tell us the story of how you're here?
38:45I was just getting my haircut last week by Hayden.
38:47This is a true story, by the way, isn't it?
38:49Yeah.
38:49Before you begin.
38:50Yeah.
38:51But I was just getting my haircut and she was saying she was going to this festival at
38:55the weekend.
38:56I was like, oh, what is it?
38:57She was explaining to me, showing me pictures.
38:58I was like, that looks cool, that.
39:00And she goes, what are you doing next weekend?
39:02And I was like, no.
39:03And she goes, I know the girl who books it.
39:05And so she texts her saying, I'm with Miles now.
39:08And then she was like, would he play it?
39:10And I was like, I'd totally play it.
39:11So we're just here.
39:13Me and Steve come over today.
39:15Brought the Akui.
39:16A little 30 minutes set in the church.
39:19And...
39:19All because of a haircut?
39:20All because of a fucking skin fade, mate.
39:24Do you know what I mean?
39:25Have you played in this beautiful place before?
39:27No, I haven't.
39:28It's my first time here.
39:30But driving through today, it was beautiful, you know.
39:32So I feel, yeah, I feel honored to be here.
39:35And tell me about your brand new record.
39:37Is it your sixth?
39:39Sixth solo album.
39:40Solo album.
39:40Eleventh album in total.
39:42And this one was made in Nashville.
39:44Recorded pretty much live.
39:46And we did it in five days.
39:48We recorded 15 tunes.
39:50And it was just, it was a great vibe, man.
39:52It was the most, I think, free flowing album I've ever made.
39:56The whole process of it.
39:57And probably like the quickest album, you know.
40:00There was a lot of instinct.
40:01And quality songs.
40:04It sort of took me back to like the sort of the early days
40:07when you just write songs and you'll go and record them.
40:10You know, there was no demos or anything like that.
40:13And I haven't done that for a long time.
40:15You know what I mean?
40:16So it was refreshing.
40:22How are we all feeling?
40:23You feeling okay?
40:25Yeah.
40:25This is a beautiful little town you've got here.
40:27So I'm very privileged there.
40:29And I hope I warm yourself up for a good night ahead.
40:32Do you know what I mean?
40:33This is...
40:35This next song is a new one.
40:37It's called My Love off the new record.
40:40And it's probably the most Scouse song I've ever written.
40:43And, you know, it's one that your mum and your auntie will love.
40:48And it's got that early Beatles vibe.
40:49So, yeah, you'll know what I mean anyway.
40:51But this is called My Love.
41:01I'll be running away
41:03Right outside you
41:06You know how it feels
41:08To leave me like this
41:10No other darkness
41:12Looks like you
41:14Forgot where your heart is
41:17You'll be saying your things
41:21I like to hear
41:22Look
41:23What trouble it brings
41:25I'm out of here
41:27Hey
