00:03Biplanes might be old-school tech, but this retired Royal Air Force pilot is bringing one of them into the
00:09modern era.
00:10This is 60-year-old Rich Goodwin, and he spent the last four years building this, a pit-special biplane.
00:16But rather than a propeller to accelerate the plane into the sky, Goodwin decided he had a greater need for
00:21greater speed.
00:21So he added two jet engines, likely more than doubling the biplane, or rather the bijets, top speed.
00:27He says the twin jets, each of which can produce some 850 pounds of thrust, can propel the aircraft to
00:33speeds upwards of 220 miles per hour.
00:36Something Goodwin says means he's built the fastest biplane in Europe, but adds he would have to break a bunch
00:41of aircraft laws to actually test that.
00:43Adding about his engineering endeavor, quote,
00:45I respect the authorities, and the air shows are tightly regulated for good reason.
00:49But it's important to keep pushing the boundaries of what's possible.
00:52So how much does a pet project like this one cost?
00:55According to Goodwin, around $162,000.
00:59.
