00:06International Red Panda Day is September 20th. The San Diego Zoo has been a great supporter of
00:10International Red Panda Day. So far we have over 42 zoos internationally signed up to participate
00:15in this awareness campaign to help save red pandas. They are listed as vulnerable right
00:20now but the habitat is critical to save and only 11% of red panda populations are protected right
00:26now. So Red Panda Network is working to protect over 45% of red panda habitat which will in turn
00:31protect many other species as well as provide clean air and water for the human populations
00:36that live in the areas of the Himalayas.
00:46Red pandas live in the same habitat as giant pandas up in the Himalayas in really high altitudes. The forests
00:52are being cut down at an alarming rate unfortunately and there's a lot of pressure from cattle and human
00:57population growth and so Red Panda Network works to protect the habitat for red pandas and that
01:03also provides clean air, clean water, fuel, carbon offset with all the Himalayan forests. So it's
01:09really important to protect red pandas and their habitat not only for the animals but for humans as
01:23well so we have things like adopting a red panda. So we have things like adopting a red panda. So
01:43we have a lot of
01:43sponsoring a forest guardian which are the Nepalese people going out and monitoring the forest. You can
01:48also buy medicinal nurseries for them. They can have sustainable income through growing medicinal plants
01:55rather than cutting the forest down. And there's many different conservation efforts going on in zoos so
02:01you can support your local zoo as well.
