00:00Captain Tsubasa, Rise of New Champions, comes out on PC, PS4 and Switch on the 28th of August.
00:06Whether you're a fan of the classic manga and anime series or if it's brand new to you,
00:11this is an exciting arcade football game with something for everyone.
00:15However, if you're expecting a football game like the ones you already know,
00:18you're in for a bit of a surprise.
00:20That's why we're here to help teach you the basics so you're ready to hit the pitch on the 28th.
00:25For this first video, let's go over the basic controls and mechanics.
00:29Firstly, the buttons. We'll be using the PS4 as an example and do bear in mind,
00:34this is in practice mode which is why the clock isn't moving.
00:37When you have possession, X is a short pass,
00:40circle is a long pass and triangle is a through ball.
00:44For those last two, you can hold the button to kick the ball further.
00:48Square shoots the ball and again, you can hold it to kick further.
00:52Hold the button long enough to activate special shots with some particular players
00:56but we'll go into more detail on that in a future video.
01:00Press and hold R1 to dash dribble and press R2 for a dribble move.
01:04Again, we'll go into this more in the next video.
01:07Holding L1 modifies some shots and the D-pad lets you choose between four preset tactical formations.
01:13L2 is used for something called V-Zone, a power-up that we'll talk about in a future video.
01:18On to defence. Hold X to run toward the player with possession or hold square to have another player on
01:25your team approach the player with possession.
01:27Dash into opponents with R1 to tackle them or you can do a sliding tackle with R2 or circle, your
01:33choice.
01:34Pressing L1 switches the player you're controlling and will always favour players closer to the opponent with possession of the
01:41ball.
01:42So far, it kind of sounds like a regular football game, right? But that's just the beginning.
01:50The Spirit Gauge is a gauge all players have that is depleted when they take certain actions.
01:57Dashing, tackle moves, special shots and saves are some of the things that use up the Spirit Gauge.
02:05It recharges over time for all players except the goalkeeper.
02:09The lower your Spirit Gauge, the longer it will take you to charge up shots, and if it's too low,
02:14you won't be able to dash or perform those special manoeuvres.
02:18As we've seen already, you can hold square to charge up shots, but this also works when the ball is
02:23in the air.
02:24Cross the ball into the box and hold square to have your players go for either a header or an
02:28aerial kick.
02:29Depending on the player, these can be special charge shots, like on the ground.
02:34However, if two opposing players go for a mid-air ball at the same time, you get a clash.
02:39Mash the buttons as hard as you can to come out on top and take a shot towards goal.
02:44The Spirit Gauge works a bit differently for the goalkeeper.
02:47Every time he saves a shot, his gauge goes down and it only recharges at half-time or after he
02:54lets a goal in.
02:55Wearing down the opponent's goalie until he lets in a shot is a huge part of being successful in Captain
03:01Tsivasa.
03:02So, pay close attention to your player's Spirit Gauge at all times.
03:06The more gauge a player has, the longer he'll be able to maintain possession, because of the dash dribble and
03:12dribble move manoeuvres.
03:15We'll be going over two extremely important moves.
03:19The dash dribble and the dribble move.
03:22Essentially, both are different manoeuvres you can perform to avoid being tackled,
03:26but you've got to choose well, because each one can be beaten by different moves from the opponent.
03:32If you have the ball, you hold R1 to dash dribble.
03:36This lets you run faster until your Spirit Gauge runs out.
03:40It also lets you sprint past anyone trying to slide tackle you with R2.
03:46However, if the opponent sprints into you with R1 while you are doing the same, they'll take the ball.
03:53Basically, when you have possession, R1 beats the opponent pressing R2, but loses to the opponent also pressing R1.
04:04Alternatively, you can spend some Spirit Gauge to do a dribble move with R2,
04:08which will dash around any defenders sprinting at you with R1.
04:14However, it will lose if they tackle with R2 themselves.
04:20Essentially, both the attacker and the defender have two options, and each one beats one of the other.
04:27When you have the ball, R1 beats R2,
04:33and R2 beats R1.
04:36When you're defending, R1 beats R1,
04:40and R2 beats R2.
04:44Pay attention to what the other player does,
04:47and press the right button at the right time.
04:49A combination of good predictions and keen reactions will take you far.
05:03We'll be discussing special combination moves you can do with particular characters.
05:08If you're familiar with the manga or anime, you'll be familiar with these players,
05:12but if you're new, you'll learn to know them before long.
05:15There are several special combination plays you can perform if you have the right players in the right spot.
05:19For example, when you have Tsubasa and Misaka running up the pitch together,
05:24and one of them has the ball,
05:25hold Triangle until the bar is full to perform an amazing combo pass move.
05:31Keep tapping Triangle in time to get past the entire opposing team in no time at all.
05:36The only way for the opposing player to beat this is with an extremely well-timed dash into the path
05:42of the ball.
05:43There are also defensive plays that happen automatically if you have the right players in the right places.
05:48A brave defender can get in the way of a shot and stop it before it becomes an issue.
05:54That's not all, there are combination shooting moves too.
05:57Here's an example, if the ball is centred into the penalty area and the Tachibana brothers are there,
06:03hold square to perform the amazing Skylab Hurricane, just like real life.
06:08Why kick the ball with one foot when two is literally 100% more feet?
06:13With two compatible players near each other, charge up a shot and watch the sparks fly.
06:18Here's another one, the Hirado combination.
06:21If Jito makes a shot from the back lines and Sano is in the right position,
06:25he'll change the course of the ball with his head and slip it past the keeper.
06:29Experiment to find all the different special combination moves in the game.
06:37V-Zone is a power-up that affects your entire team.
06:40You'll see the V-Gauge building up along the bottom of the screen as you play.
06:44When it's full, you can activate it at any time that you have possession by pressing L2.
06:49When it's active, your Spirit Gauge will last longer and recharge quicker.
06:53In addition, shots charge faster so you can be even more aggressive.
06:57You can't activate V-Zone if you don't have the ball,
07:00but there is one thing you can do if you have a full gauge.
07:03When the opponent takes a shot, if your V-Gauge is full,
07:06you can press L2 to do a super save that ensures they will not score.
07:11This is perfect to use as a last-ditch attempt when your goalie Spirit Gauge is depleted.
07:16Make sure you keep an eye on your V-Gauge and use it when it's full.
07:19There's no use sitting on a full gauge for an entire match.
07:21That concludes our week of Captain Tsubasa Rise of New Champions tutorials.
07:26Hopefully you learnt something and you'll be ready to hit the pitch on PS4, PC and Switch on 28th of
07:33August.
