00:00Long lines were reported at major airports on Wednesday as more than 480 Transportation Security Administration officers quit since the
00:09mid-February start of a partial government shutdown.
00:12Officials warned that forcing 50,000 officers to work without pay is straining operations and could lead to the closure
00:20of smaller airports if staffing issues worsen.
00:24U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE agents, have been deployed to the busiest airports to help ease the strain
00:31during the shutdown.
00:32Well, I mean, it is unfortunate that the TSA agents aren't getting paid, and I understand, you know, why it's
00:38taking so long because they're not getting paid, so I'm not going to work for free. I don't expect them
00:43to.
00:43They should be getting paid. It's just like everyone has their paycheck bills due, so it's unfair to them.
00:51We shouldn't have that kind of delay or even at least have kind of a backup plan if this is
00:56a shutdown.
00:57What do we have as a backup to pay those with travel because at the end of the day, we're
01:01going everywhere. We're moving.
01:02As long as they're actually helping, you know, but I think, I would think if ICE is here, they've got
01:11to start training and kind of look at what people are doing because it's TSA agents are not getting paid.
01:16Meanwhile, hundreds of immigration and homeland security officers have also been deployed to 14 airports to assist with screening as
01:24wait times stretch to several hours.
