01:17gay cowboys. It's pretty bold. But then, you know, you have Call Me By Your Name, Moonlight,
01:22I think with Barry Jenkins saying, bringing the art house to the hood is what he said.
01:27That was already just a beautiful juxtaposition. And then having, you know, he said he wanted
01:33to redefine masculinity with that movie, which I thought was so cool.
01:36Yeah. Call Me By Your Name, I think, was like pretty revolutionary. Yeah. Yeah. I was in high
01:40school at that time. And I remember that being the first thing that felt like it was really a part
01:46of the cultural zeitgeist. And it also handled, like, it also handled queer stories in a really
01:52cool way where it was so under the surface and it made it so human, you know, which I think

01:59was kind of like a moonlight scenario where we're taking these people in such a specific time and

07:14pumped up pecs and a shut down fucking digestive system.

07:5812-hour days and then the gym.

08:07And we would go from a fucking 11-hour day skating lesson and Connor would go,
08:11let's do legs.
08:13And I looked at him, he's a madman.

08:16He'll finish a skating lesson that takes four hours and then go, legs now?

08:24I knew I had a responsibility to the people.

08:33Romance readers are famously passionate about book adaptations.
08:36Did you feel any pressure bringing a beloved story to life?
08:39And how did you approach making the characters your own?
08:41It's good, I think, to go into a project accepting that, you know,
08:47people might be disappointed, especially with something like a book
08:50where everyone already has preconceived notions.
08:52They've envisioned these characters.
08:54They've drawn these characters.
08:56They've gotten tattoos of these characters.
08:58Like the love is already there so much that ultimately someone is going to be disappointed.
09:03All you can do is read the material as much as you possibly can and respect it.
09:13Show the respect, show the dedication, and just hope that people, you know,
09:17connect with it and love it and see that enthusiasm.
09:19I think we both had that level of, whether you want to call it nihilism or not,
09:23like people might just hate this.
09:25People might hate your casting or they might hate my casting.
09:28I'm not going to expect anything more.
09:31And I'm just going to do the best I can.
09:33But you have really no metric of if people are going to be warm to your take.
09:39I really think at the end of the day, all you can do is be really intentional,

11:43What makes those stand out for you?
11:44My favorite spicy scene from Ember and Ice is actually a scene where Dane is with two
11:50former lovers, Cassandra and Elijah.

11:58I need you to, I need you to be here with me.

12:02Dane has an interaction with two of his former lovers after having been with Finn for some
12:09time.
12:10And, uh, yeah, not to spoil, but he, he ends up realizing that what, what really works
12:17for him isn't working for him anymore.
12:20And it's kind of this moment of identity loss and, you know, what, what pleases me isn't
12:25pleasing me the same.
12:26I think that's really cool.
12:27Cause it's also, it's, cause it's cool.
12:29Cause it's like sexy and spicy, but it also is really revealing of the character and the
12:34connection and where he's at, you know?
12:36Um, and I think it's funny.
12:37I think I remember Dane saying something about, um, he's like, he's like, and then the next
12:43thing I did was I just had to come up with a, an excuse.

13:07That one really got me, um, frothing at the mouth and heated rivalry, favorite intimate

13:15There was one that was really fun to film.
13:17Do you remember filming the stair step scene when we're like kissing against the glass and
13:21our lips never come apart.

17:20Um, why do you think that role matters on projects like this?
17:23Was there anything about the process that you think would surprise people?
17:27Wow.
17:27I mean, I think it's so, um, yeah, that's a, yeah, that question is, I mean, it's so important.
17:34I mean, you, you literally can't do things without that role.
17:40Um, the thing that I think would shock people about the role of intimacy coordinating is it's
17:45not just about, and this is what I learned from Chayla originally.
17:49And then also Jamie doing this.
17:51It's not just about the actual safety, the boundaries, monitoring what's going on, what
17:57that looks like, making sure everyone's okay.
17:59There's also actually a conjunction of an artistic edge where you are like Jamie with this, you
18:07know, was also the voice that was reminding us, this is how long it's been since this happened.
18:12You know, you need to, I need to hear that shiver or that I need to hear those, um, I
18:18need
18:18to hear that feeling through your wings.
18:20I need to see that come about.

22:22to Toronto, we had so many, like so much overlap of movies we liked, actors we liked, art we
22:30liked, and similar approaches to how we, you know, like to perform, that I immediately
22:36knew, I think we clicked there.
22:38And I think that's saying a lot, because I think some of our, our interests can be pretty
22:42niche or so.
22:43The fact that there is overlap is amazing.

22:46And favorite memories, I would say all our laughs on set.
22:51Being in Muskoka was really beautiful.
22:54There was a lot of like lounging around, you know, it was just great.
22:59My favorite memories of working with you are also the laughs.

23:07Um, we had a storm the set.
23:10That was also with, oh yeah, I would always be like, storm the set.
23:15But if we couldn't afford extras, our idea was we would just like, do like a cattle call.
23:20We used to joke that like we, um, because we would have like airport scenes and stuff
23:24where there would be like, you know, for an airport, you need like, you need a bunch
23:28of people and we'd have like five people.
23:29And I just imagined, um, I imagined Jacob being like, being like, costumes, get up there.
23:36And everyone's like taking off their mics and he's like, storm the set.
23:40Opening the garage and just like opening it up to the public.
23:44How does it feel to accidentally launch a workout movement?
23:49I can't, I honestly still cannot believe that that was someone's takeaway from this.

25:10Um, and that was way heavier than I thought, you know, this would look like.
25:15And it was really rewarding.

25:20Um, it was just written really well, uh, as someone who, you know, is not a big reader,
25:27I think something like this would be really appealing to me.
