00:34We're finding ourselves at a very exciting moment with the Skywalker saga coming to an end.
00:39We're at a place of what's next for Star Wars.
00:42One of the things we've always done is be able to use our franchise platforms to explore the creative potential
00:47of the Star Wars galaxy.
00:49And so what if publishing was more of an incubation place and bring in great talent and just let their
00:53imaginations run free.
01:00We put together a really unique writers room where we had diverse voices with very different opinions about Star Wars.
01:08We all love Star Wars, but we're all coming in from very different places.
01:15This has been a very free environment for everybody to just throw things out there.
01:21We've all done lots of storytelling, but this is unique and really special.
01:25The idea that this thing has been simmering for so long.
01:28It's the secret history of the galaxy.
01:30Yep. It goes way back to the beginning of Star Wars.
01:33We gave them essentially a blank slate. What would you like to tell?
01:37There are over a thousand generations of Jedi knights in the audience of peace and justice.
01:43A line that we've been hearing since 1977.
01:45And we thought, you know, what does that look like?
01:50It is a golden age where there's much more peace and calm in the galaxy.
01:53So we're calling it the High Republic.
01:55The description that we've used for the Jedi of this era is that they are the Jedi Knights of the
01:59Round Table.
02:01But Star Wars isn't just about Jedi.
02:03And we will tell stories of new smugglers, new scoundrels, new bounty hunters.
02:08The threat and the tension really comes from the Republic's borders.
02:11Because the Republic does not extend from one side of the galaxy to the other.
02:15It's a bit of a wild west, new frontier.
02:18We see a different kind of Jedi that patrols the frontiers and is more of a Texas Ranger.
02:24We're now bringing in concept artists, illustrators, and visualists the same way that you would when you're making a movie.
02:30We even had Ian McKay come down and just do sketch after sketch for us.
02:34When you have a guy who designed the look for Darth Maul sketching Jedi for you, it doesn't get any
02:39cooler than this.
02:41The scale of this initiative is really new for us.
02:44We're going to have stories for adults and teens and kids.
02:48We're building this out simultaneously across multiple publishers.
02:53It gives us the ability to tell vast, interconnected stories across multiple years.
03:00There will be a core group of heroes that will expand over time.
03:03There will be villains.
03:07Our main villain are the group called the Nile.
03:09We kind of like to refer to them as Space Vikings.
03:13Their motto is, you can't take it with you, but we can take it from you.
03:23Our story starts with what we're calling the Great Disaster.
03:26It wouldn't be Star Wars without adventure.
03:28And there's definitely a series of events that will spin the galaxy into a dangerous new direction,
03:34and it will give the opportunity for heroes to rise up.
03:39The cool thing about this is that there's going to be a story for every Star Wars fan.
03:45It's really fun to be able to keep readers on their toes.
03:49This era is ripe for storytelling.
03:51The Eureka moment was the question, what scares the Jedi?
03:56And that made us all go, ooh, something wicked this way comes.
