00:04Hello and welcome, my name is Zack Robinson, you may also know me as Zero Empires.
00:10And I am Eric Roble, lead of the balance team. We have a very exciting match for you guys today.
00:16We have Frank playing as the Blue Rus in the north.
00:22And down to the south in the red, we have Mark, and he's playing as the Holy Roman Empire.
00:29This is a 1v1 showmatch here on the Arabia map, and we're super excited to share some awesome gameplay with
00:37you all today.
00:38So, Frank playing as the Rus to the north. The Rus as a civilization, they are master hunters.
00:44They're also very good with cavalry. They get access to the early knight, which they can make in the feudal
00:49age,
00:50as well as the mounted warrior monk and the horse archer.
00:53And already you can see he's built his unique building, the hunting cabin here next to the wood line.
01:00And he's trained an early scout to go out, cross the map, and take advantage of his bounty system.
01:06This is another system unique to the Rus, where they get gold for killing Gaia.
01:10And with that gold, they build up bounty points.
01:13The more points they get, the more prizes they get, Eric.
01:16Oh, I love prizes. What do they get, Johnny?
01:18They get more villager gather rate for food, and their hunting cabins generate gold faster as well.
01:24So, this is a really awesome start for Frank getting out here, killing the deer.
01:29Tell us a bit about the Holy Roman Empire.
01:30Love it.
01:31So, their focuses are on religion and defenses.
01:35So, a lot of times as this civilization, they will want to get some extra gold.
01:40So, they're able to take advantage of that really early in the game.
01:43So, you see, he's sent four guys out there to get gold mine,
01:46whereas on the Rus' side, there's actually, he hasn't even built the mine, right?
01:50So, he's just, yeah, he's just running around collecting pellets, getting cash.
01:54And then down here, you can see he's invested in the wheelbarrel really early at the mill.
01:59So, he wanted that so badly.
02:01He hasn't even put the mill next to berries or anything.
02:04He just threw it out there.
02:05The berries are over here.
02:06Yeah.
02:06He's like, whatever.
02:08Shortest walking distance possible.
02:10I just went that wheelbarrel.
02:11So, he's getting that.
02:13He'll reduce the travel time of his villagers.
02:16They'll spend more time working and less time slacking off, right?
02:20Yeah.
02:20And then the other thing is the prelate.
02:22So, no other civ can build a religious unit from their town center,
02:27but the HRE, that's sort of the cool special thing, is for 100 gold,
02:32they can build this unit.
02:34And you see, first, he produced a couple of workers
02:37because it buffs every single worker you have, and it can buff up to 10.
02:41So, you see, he's got nine there, so he wanted to make sure he had built a whole bunch.
02:44And now, it's out, and it'll buff all nine of those guys,
02:48and it gives them 40% extra gather rate.
02:52It's really powerful.
02:54Yeah, it's very strong.
02:55And on top of that, the Holy Roman Empire, as a civ bonus,
02:58they get to carry 40% more resources as well.
03:01So, buffing those villagers under the town center,
03:03get that sheep meat, and that will really help his early economy.
03:08On the other side, we have Frank, and he's also doing wheelbarrow,
03:12coming in a little bit later, though.
03:13And for him, he's focused at the moment on just killing the Gaia around the map.
03:18He's already working on killing some deer.
03:21He's also going after a wolf, and that will actually give him more bounty as well.
03:26A deer is 10, but a wolf will give him 25.
03:29He's already built that up to 300.
03:31So, he's already getting a 10% faster food harvest rate.
03:36In his wood line now, he's actually adding a wooden fortress.
03:39This is another unique roost building,
03:41and this is not only a great defensive structure,
03:44but it also buffs nearby lumber camps within the influence,
03:48and that will cause the villagers to drop in.
03:51Villagers dropping off wood there will drop 20% more.
03:55So, both of these players really focused on the early game
03:58and getting their economies rolling and pumping as much as they can.
04:02And now they're sort of transitioning to the next phase,
04:05which is building their landmarks so that they can enter the feudal age.
04:09So, we've got Mark here going for the Auchin Chapel,
04:12and this is really nice because instead of just being able to inspire 10 villagers,
04:18once it's completed, the Prella can hop in there,
04:20and then everything in this radius around it will be inspired.
04:24So, you're able to buff a lot more than 10,
04:26and you see he's kind of built it here next to the trees
04:30so he can maximize the amount of lumber that he's chopping,
04:33and later on it can be really good.
04:35You can add some farms in there once the trees are down.
04:38Yeah, meanwhile, we've got Frank coming in here with a couple of scouts.
04:42He's killed all the guy here,
04:44and now he's looking for some villagers or mining camps.
04:47He's not really able to kill villagers very easily in the early game,
04:52but he can certainly push them away
04:53because if Mark stays there for too long,
04:55those villagers will go down.
04:56So, running back to the safety of the town center for now.
04:59Meanwhile, on the other side,
05:01he's going up to the feudal age as well,
05:03and he's building the Golden Gate.
05:05This is a special market
05:07which always allows you to trade at a favorable rate
05:10every single minute.
05:11You'll gain a new supply,
05:12and you'll be able to spend these on trading for a profit
05:15every single time.
05:18Wow, four scouts though.
05:19That is aggressive.
05:20Burning down the mining camp.
05:22No gold for you, Mark.
05:23Yeah, having four scouts is actually quite nice.
05:27A, you can see everything on the map really quickly.
05:30Their torch damage is not bad, right?
05:32And then lastly, later in the game,
05:35there's utility of being able to pick up corpses.
05:37Oh, wow.
05:40Great use of emergency repairs.
05:42So, this is a special HRE ability
05:45which they can activate on anything
05:47that's within the influence of their town center.
05:49So, you see it generates an influence.
05:51You can actually build more town centers later in the game,
05:53you know, like in the middle of the map,
05:54and, you know, build a keep there
05:55or something like that to defend it.
05:57But it will repair the building up really quickly for you
06:00and for free as well.
06:02So, you don't have to waste your wood
06:04from your villagers to repair it
06:05and you don't have to waste their resource gathering time.
06:08You can have them off gathering resources for you
06:10while the emergency repairs is active.
06:12But you can only have one at a time
06:13and then it has a cooldown.
06:14So, the enemy, maybe they...
06:16She's wisely.
06:16Yeah, they can distract you.
06:17They can attack a house,
06:18get you to use it,
06:19and then kill the keep or something.
06:20Right.
06:21And now, Frank couldn't burn down the mining camp,
06:25so he's going to steal your deer.
06:27Uh-oh.
06:27Uh-oh.
06:28The great heist.
06:29Four scouts.
06:30There they go.
06:31So, the defensive spearmen will push them away,
06:33but they're going to get away with a little treat.
06:35They're pretty happy with their prize.
06:38So, that's the professional scouts tech
06:40and this allows your scouts to actually carry the carcasses.
06:46Both players already have this at the moment,
06:48but you can see already,
06:50that Frank's stealing away four of those deer
06:53and Mark is grabbing some deer as well.
06:55He wants to bring them home
06:56and he wants to specifically bring them
06:58in the range of this Arkham Chapel
07:00because villagers gather from deer very quickly
07:02and if they can do so under the safety of the town center
07:05with a 40% gather rate bonus,
07:07he's just stacking those bonuses together.
07:10So strong, yeah.
07:11Really good.
07:11So, this matchup in general,
07:13these two civs,
07:15they both sort of have some benefit
07:17to getting the deer where it's,
07:19either they have a bunch of scouts
07:20so they might as well ferry the deer
07:22or they are getting a lot more food from the deer.
07:25There's a lot of tension between these two civs
07:27in this matchup of trying to get those deer in.
07:29Look at that, he's got six.
07:31He's going all out.
07:33He's just picked them all up, right?
07:35Absolutely.
07:36So, both these players so far then,
07:38we've got some military buildings coming down.
07:41We've got the archery range and the stable from Frank.
07:45That's a pretty popular combo, right?
07:46Archers and cavalry.
07:47You've got maneuverability on the side of the cav.
07:50You've got the range on the side of the archers
07:52and even a blacksmith in the back here
07:54to improve his archer damage with the steeled arrow.
07:57On the other side, Mark, he has...
08:01Oh, he's building out to the right.
08:02He's already got two stables
08:03and he's going for a barracks.
08:05So, he's going for the early spearmen here as well.
08:09So, yeah.
08:10It's going to be archers and horsemen
08:12against horsemen and spears.
08:15This game is going to get aggressive.
08:17It looks like that's a lot of production early.
08:19So, you can see he really took advantage
08:21of all that early wood that he was able to chap
08:23because he had the chapel in his area.
08:27And so, he went more for like a raw,
08:30raw out military production
08:32and he's a bit slower to be getting the upgrades.
08:34But since he's going to have so many units,
08:36the upgrades will be super powerful when he gets them.
08:38But it looks like he's trying to start an early push here, huh?
08:41Yeah, he's trying to hunt down the scouts with his spears
08:43but he's having a hard time catching them.
08:45And of course, that's the advantage of cavalry, right?
08:47You have the movement speed.
08:48Although, Mark will catch the horsemen here.
08:51and these spearmen do plus 16 against cavalry
08:54so that's triple damage.
08:56Very, very high damage against cavalry units.
08:59The scouts are really just trying to steal the deer
09:01but now he's got some horsemen.
09:03He might be able to chase them down
09:04and prevent any more deer from being stolen away.
09:07On the other side,
09:08we've also got some horsemen here from Mark.
09:10Looks like he wants to try and raid
09:11but before doing that,
09:13he wants to bring them back
09:14and just try and catch out the scouts really
09:16and stop them from stealing any more of his deer
09:18when he still can.
09:19Oh, he got one.
09:20Nice.
09:20Oh, oh, I think he's going to get some more.
09:22I think they've met their end.
09:23He's going to get some more.
09:23Oof.
09:24There's two left.
09:26They just dropped the corpse right where they die
09:29so he may send his scout over there
09:31and try to pick him up himself, right?
09:33Yeah, and of course,
09:35the more food you can secure, the better.
09:36He chased down and killed one more scout.
09:38There were six to begin with
09:39and I think only one made it out alive.
09:41Now the archers are coming in.
09:43Archers are going to be absolutely taking care
09:45of these spearmen here
09:46and the horsemen from Mark coming in as well.
09:49quite a lot of micro at the moment
09:51as both players are trying to jostle for position,
09:53trying to get the spearmen onto the cav
09:55and the horsemen onto the archers.
09:59Yeah, we have a very hard counter unit system in our game.
10:02So the horsemen are doing double damage to the archers.
10:05So you want to get your horsemen onto the archers
10:06as much as possible,
10:07but the spearmen are doing triple damage to the horses.
10:09So you want to try to run the horses away from the spearmen
10:12and towards the archers.
10:13So there's a lot of sort of back and forth dancing in the game,
10:15which is very cool to see.
10:17Yeah, there's a lot of back and forth micro
10:19and it looks like Frank's been pushed all the way back home.
10:22Mark, with the additional military production buildings,
10:25we saw two stables and two barracks here.
10:27That game is basically two stables and a range.
10:30He's just overwhelmed Frank
10:31and Frank's now pushed back to his town center.
10:34But at this stage of the game,
10:36it can be quite hard to push in.
10:37He has got the wooden fortress.
10:39He's also got 20 villages in the town center.
10:41That's a lot of firepower.
10:42Yeah, he's taking quick care of those units
10:45that are pushing a bit too close
10:46and he can push back now with his defender's advantage.
10:50So things are already getting pretty scrappy.
10:52This is a spicy game.
10:53Wow, we're seeing a second town center from Frank now.
10:57That's a bold play,
10:58considering how badly he's getting pushed right now, huh?
11:01Exactly.
11:02Instead of investing into more military,
11:03he's going for the economic route
11:05and we'll see if Mark can punish this.
11:07but in Age of Empires IV,
11:09you can add a town center in the second age.
11:12So he's really investing in this.
11:14It's very expensive.
11:16We'll see if it pays off for Frank
11:17and if he can hold against the onslaught of Mark here.
11:21Yeah, spending 700 resources this soon is quite a lot, right?
11:25That's almost 10 less units.
11:26And you can see already, you know,
11:28he doesn't quite have the units to defend this hunting cabin,
11:30which is generating some free gold for him.
11:32So he's trying to push it off,
11:34but I think Mark has a pretty big army
11:36and he's going to be able to push it up.
11:37Yep, now he's coming in with a spearman
11:38and those cavalry have to retreat.
11:40They're not going to be able to fight the spearman.
11:42So now he's able to burn down the hunting cabin.
11:44Yeah, hunting cabin goes down.
11:46And as the roost, if you have great map control,
11:49you can put these hunting cabins all over the place
11:51and generate a lot of free gold.
11:52But if you're in Frank's position like this,
11:54it's not really so feasible.
11:56Otherwise, you're just sort of throwing them away
11:58as your opponent scouts them and takes them out.
12:00Over here, though, look at this.
12:01We've got a boar kill from Mark.
12:03He's very confident in his position right now.
12:06He's got great map control.
12:07He's pushing right up to Frank's base.
12:09So he's taking the opportunity to kill a boar out here.
12:12And that's the fastest source of food in the game for him.
12:15So he'll be getting a lot of food.
12:17And 2,000 of it too, right?
12:18Oh yeah, a lot of food right there.
12:19It's risky.
12:20The boar is pretty dangerous, right?
12:22Like, we should probably warn the H2 players
12:25if they're trying to get boar in this game.
12:26Yeah, they're a lot tougher than you might be used to.
12:30But they're really worth it, right?
12:322,000 food, very fast gather rate.
12:34But the risk is there as well.
12:36The fact that you're out in the middle of the map,
12:38it is dangerous.
12:39But for Mark, you know,
12:40a good offense is the best defense sometimes.
12:42And he's out here and taking the fight to Frank right now.
12:46Yeah, and he's got a nice mix of spearmen and cavalry
12:49so he can defeat the enemy cavalry
12:51and also run around and raid.
12:53Oh!
12:55Okay.
12:56Goodbye.
12:56What happened there?
12:57Frank, he's trying to go up to H3.
12:59He's going for a fast H3.
13:01I think he got a bit optimistic.
13:04Yeah, yeah, a little bit.
13:05He's going to rebuild it in the back by the looks of things.
13:08This is the Abbey of the Trinity
13:09and this is the H3 landmark now.
13:13This allows him to make his unique Warrior Monk
13:16and they also have some special upgrades in there as well
13:20and the monks are half-priced.
13:22So the Warrior Monk, it's a mounted monk, basically.
13:25It's very fast.
13:26It's also got a buff ability which will buff nearby units when it attacks
13:32and give them armor and attack.
13:34So we might see that in use,
13:36but I think Frank will probably want to grab some relics here quite quickly.
13:41Yeah, their extra move speed is Primo picking up those relics
13:44and denying the other player from getting them.
13:47And it looks like he's also trying to harass and take out some of these production facilities.
13:53So I'm wondering what his response will be
13:55because he knows that the landmark is coming down
13:58because he saw it get destroyed right in front of his eyes.
14:01so basically he has to choose
14:03does he want to commit to a really big attack
14:05or does he want to try to attack himself and sort of catch up.
14:09Although Mark, he's probably just going to attack, attack, attack.
14:14Yeah, he's very aggressive,
14:15but there's some really good defense, right?
14:18because he's got the wooden fortress that has eight garrison slots
14:21instead of the normal tower only has five.
14:24And the way the garrison mechanic works in our game
14:26is that every unit garrison gives you one extra arrow.
14:30So if you put eight guys in there,
14:32that means you're firing eight extra arrows.
14:33So it really ramps up the damage of these defenses
14:36if you're able to pop some guys in there.
14:38Of course, it comes at the cost of maybe idling your villagers,
14:41but it's worth it if it keeps you in the game.
14:43And Frank can afford to idle some villes.
14:45He added a second town center.
14:46Absolutely.
14:46Yeah, now he's in the Castle Age.
14:48He's going to be training that first warrior monk
14:50and it looks like he's going to be going out
14:51to try and grab some relics.
14:54I like this.
14:54I want to call attention to this.
14:56Frank has a couple of scouts out on the map
14:58and they are chilling in the stealth forest.
15:02So the stealth forest mechanic,
15:03you can hide units in there
15:05and your opponents can't necessarily see in,
15:08but you can see out.
15:09So it gives you a lot of vision on the map
15:11and also allows you to potentially spring some ambushes as well.
15:15Yeah, and the scout is the perfect unit in there
15:17because normal units don't have a big line of sight,
15:20but the scout in there can see a lot of stuff
15:22and nothing can see it.
15:23So they don't even know that you can see them, right?
15:25So, you know, great for ambushes.
15:27And it looks like,
15:28so we've got to the third age here for Frank
15:31and it looks like he's built some of his unique units here.
15:34Yeah, this is the horse archer.
15:36Again, another mounted unit unique to the roofs
15:38and this one is pretty strong
15:41because it's got the mobility, of course,
15:44and the archer is sort of lacking that mobility,
15:46but it's also kind of weak against other ranged units.
15:50So at the moment, that's great for him
15:51because Mark doesn't have any ranged units.
15:54It's all horsemen and hardened spearmen at the moment.
15:58so it's a pretty good unit to use at this stage of the game,
16:00but Frank lacking a lot of units at the moment.
16:03He seems to be vastly outnumbered,
16:05maybe looking to potentially counterattack
16:06with some raids here.
16:08Yeah, yeah, you're right.
16:09Great, great choice of unit
16:13because you're sort of,
16:14while you're getting the mobility,
16:16you're sort of paying for that
16:17because it's more expensive than an archer
16:19and its hit points are not very high,
16:21especially considering how expensive it is resource-wise.
16:25So you kind of really need to get some value out of that
16:29because in a straight-up fight,
16:30archers would be more powerful.
16:32So that's why he just goes immediately for the raid.
16:34This is great from Mark.
16:36He's already catching some villagers out
16:38and Frank's probably feeling quite constricted at the moment
16:40as these cavalry keep chasing him down
16:42whenever he needs to pay.
16:43He's getting attacked on the north
16:45and the south and the middle right now.
16:47It's all happening.
16:48Wow.
16:50But Mark is going to get raided on the other side.
16:53You can see the horse archers coming in now
16:55and wow, just look at that beautiful farming economy.
16:58I love it.
16:59He's losing villagers though on the gold
17:01and Frank there,
17:02I don't think Mark's even realized,
17:04I don't think he's expecting them to be raided on this.
17:06He's like, I'm attacking you in four spots.
17:08You can't be attacking me also.
17:09Yeah, the minimap is chaos right now.
17:11It's stuff happening everywhere.
17:13Look at this.
17:13He ran back in.
17:15Over in the side.
17:16This is a real scrappy game
17:17and of course the pressure came in so early
17:19it's very difficult for either player
17:20to get any walls up or anything like that.
17:23Yeah, and it looks like Mark's really committed
17:25to this feudal age
17:26but he's decided now is the time
17:27to go to age three with the Burgrave Palace.
17:30And the Burgrave is a great choice
17:32in this situation
17:33because he knows his opponent
17:34has already gone for the Abbey Trinity,
17:37already has the warrior monks out
17:39and is able to quickly go onto the map
17:41and take the relics.
17:42So his other choice, landmark choice
17:45is holding relics
17:47and getting a big bonus for them
17:49but there aren't going to be any relics
17:50by the time he gets there.
17:51Maybe none left.
17:52Yeah, they're all going to be gone.
17:53They've gotten eaten up.
17:54So since he knows what he's playing against
17:56when he's up against
17:56he's decided to go for the Burgrave Palace
17:59which is instead of like
18:00an overtime economic building
18:01it's more of a power spike
18:03where you get five bariffs
18:05effectively at the same time
18:06so you can really put the pressure
18:08to the enemy once you complete this.
18:09Yeah, and the HRE are an infantry civilisation.
18:13They have the unique Lundsknecht
18:14which is a castle age unit.
18:16We might see that on the field.
18:17We'll talk about that
18:18in a bit more detail when we do.
18:20But yeah, it looks like Frank
18:22has managed to push Mark away for now
18:25as he goes up to the next age
18:27and he's really going hard
18:30on these towers here.
18:32He's actually upgraded this one
18:33with the Springhold
18:34which is an emplacement
18:36which essentially you can upgrade
18:38on each individual fortress.
18:39It equips a really high damage Springhold
18:42and that's a single target
18:44high damage defensive emplacement essentially.
18:48It does a lot of damage to raiding units
18:49especially those with high health.
18:52Yeah, and that's one of the unique things
18:53about the Wooden Fortress
18:54is they can just get all the upgrades, right?
18:57Like normally you got to kind of choose
18:58at the other outposts
18:59but that's the cool Wooden Fortress
19:02special powers get them.
19:04Yeah, we've got a raid coming in here
19:06and the Burgrave Palace is up
19:09so we'll see if Mark's
19:10going to be putting that to good use soon.
19:12He's got a lot of foods.
19:14Oh yeah, he's putting a lot.
19:17He'll be putting all those
19:18production facilities at work.
19:19I think he was kind of
19:20he was kind of stepping off
19:21a little bit and waiting
19:22because he knew he was going
19:23to get age three soon.
19:24He could get some upgrades
19:25in on his units
19:26and he'd be a lot better
19:26at taking fights
19:27and even just raiding, right?
19:28Because all your veteran horsemen
19:30are going to have more health
19:31and more damage
19:32so they're just going to be
19:32much better at fighting villagers.
19:34Yeah, absolutely
19:35and it's like he's getting ready
19:37to take the fight back to Frank's
19:38continuing to raid
19:39but oh, Frank's getting
19:41another Warrior Monk here
19:43and oh, a conversion!
19:46Oh no, run away, run away!
19:48Wow, there you go.
19:50So conversion in Age of Empires 4
19:51it's a little bit different.
19:53Yeah, yeah, a little bit.
19:55As you can see
19:56the big blue circle
19:58anything in there
19:59at the end of the timer
20:00will be converted
20:01so you get some time to react
20:03but Mark there
20:05managed to get his units
20:06out of the way
20:06before the conversion came in
20:08and Frank was able
20:09to zone them out.
20:10It's a great zoning tool.
20:12Yeah, especially
20:12when the enemy is in your base
20:14killing your workers
20:15and you pop that down
20:17he has to decide
20:18does he want to kill
20:18some more of your workers
20:19or does he want to save
20:20his army, right?
20:21So he picked save his army.
20:22I think that was a good choice.
20:24Absolutely.
20:24It can be quite a big swing
20:25but players do
20:27have plenty of time
20:28to react as well
20:28so we'll see now
20:29I mean Mark is posted up
20:31right outside of Frank's base
20:32he's got the veteran archers
20:34out here
20:34but he doesn't have many
20:36and that's a lot of horsemen
20:37so I don't think
20:38he's going to want
20:39to take this fight
20:40I think he wants to
20:41probably get back
20:42to the shot here.
20:43Uh oh, uh oh.
20:45Yeah, he's kind of overstayed
20:46his welcome here
20:47it looks like.
20:47He's surrounded as well.
20:48Oh no, Frank is losing
20:49a lot of archers here.
20:50Oh yikes.
20:51He's got to be very careful
20:52as he pites back
20:53but ouch.
20:54He's made really good use
20:55this wooden fortress
20:56has really paid for itself
20:58though, right?
20:58And he's got a springle
20:59than that one too, right?
21:01Yeah, as soon as he comes
21:02back towards this
21:03defensive line
21:03it gets very difficult
21:05for Mark to push in
21:06and Frank as well
21:07he's done a great job
21:08of collecting the relics
21:09because the warrior monk
21:10is on a horse
21:11he does move that much faster
21:12he's already got three relics
21:14inside of the Abbey of Trinity
21:15he's got another one
21:16inside of the monastery
21:17and now in the south
21:18he's even capturing
21:19the sacred site
21:20maybe you can tell us
21:21a bit more about
21:22the sacred victory.
21:23Yeah, so this is kind of
21:25a new thing in our game
21:26there's generally three sites
21:28but not necessarily
21:29on every map
21:30and each site
21:31that you take control of
21:32will trickle gold
21:34into you
21:34so regardless
21:35it's nice to just have them
21:37and if you have
21:37all three of them
21:38that starts the victory timer
21:40for sacred sites
21:41and if you can hold them
21:42before the timer expires
21:44then you just win the game
21:45so it requires a lot
21:47of map control
21:48to have all three of them
21:49and once the enemy
21:50brings any unit in there
21:52if you're not in there too
21:53then he'll start
21:54taking it away from you
21:55Oh, did you see that
21:56happening now?
21:56Mark, he immediately reacted
21:58He's like, hey, you're trying
21:59to get free gold?
22:00I don't think so
22:00Oh yeah, he took away
22:01the monk
22:03and then he's decapping
22:04the site basically
22:05it's quite difficult
22:06to hold all three
22:07but it's a great victory
22:08condition if you've got
22:09good map control
22:10which Mark has

22:25so, it's weaknesses
22:26it's got pretty low health
22:28relative to most of the units
22:29and it's kind of expensive
22:30but, his damage
22:32is huge
22:33so, it's a
22:35how do we
22:35an enormous
22:36two-handed sword
22:37enormous
22:38enormous
22:38it is huge
22:40this is a big sword
22:41and it does an AOE damage
22:43when he cleaves and attacks
22:45so, not only is he hitting
22:46the first target
22:47but he's also hitting
22:47all the guys around him
22:48and he's pretty quick
22:50for an infantry
22:51he's one of the fastest
22:51infantry out there
22:52so, he makes a really great
22:54raider being the
22:55like, run in there
22:55and kill stuff
22:56he does an excellent job
22:58against just anything
22:59where it kind of
23:00bunches up in his tights
23:01so, spearmen in particular
23:02he can just cleave the spearmen
23:03down really quickly
23:04and since he's got
23:05quite a large
23:06cavalry army
23:07that's a really nice
23:08combination mixing
23:09those two units together
23:10yeah, and they also get
23:11the
23:13I'm just trying to find
23:14his blacksmith
23:14ah, he's already got it
23:15so, the HRE
23:17he's on it
23:17yeah, they get a
23:18unique tech
23:18which also allows their
23:19infantry to move faster
23:21as well
23:21so, it really sort of
23:23compounds with that
23:23fast move speed of the
23:24lancenect
23:25and he's got a really
23:26mixed army here
23:27he's got knights
23:27he's got horsemen
23:28he's got spearmen
23:29he's got lancenect
23:30so, in our game
23:31we really want to
23:33encourage players
23:34and reward players
23:35for building mixed army
23:36compositions
23:37the counter system is very hard
23:38and if you get caught
23:40building just one unit
23:41of one type
23:42you can be easily countered
23:43and so, by mixing his army together
23:45he's really kind of covering all bases
23:47and he's doing a great job of that here
23:49as he upgrades his spearmen as well
23:51yeah, one thing he is missing though
23:53is he doesn't have a lot of siege damage
23:55like torches
23:55torches are decent
23:56you know
23:57but he doesn't have like
23:58cannons or trebuchets or rams or whatever
24:01so
24:02and keeps in particular
24:03it's a big sturdy stone structure
24:06right?
24:06so it's not really easy to burn down
24:08with torches
24:09right?
24:09so you can see the extra torch armor
24:12on this building
24:13and
24:14so he started attacking it a couple times
24:15and then kind of gave up
24:17right?
24:17he's like, oh this isn't working out
24:19yeah, he's diving under here
24:21there's a lot of archers here from Frank
24:23he pops them back out of the archery range
24:25he's also repairing on the other side
24:27and the keep here
24:28it's taking a battering
24:29but it's also doing so much damage as well
24:31and oh wow
24:32what's this?
24:33oh mangonel
24:33mangonel's coming in
24:34getting a little bit too close for comfort actually
24:37but I think he might have to give up on killing the keep
24:40he's getting a huge amount of value out of this structure
24:42yeah, and really just distracting all these infantry
24:45while the cavalry run in and burn down the mangonels
24:48is a lot of value
24:49like mangonel is an expensive unit, right?
24:51so you really got to protect those things
24:52oh, we got another mangonel here as well
24:54oh, a counter mangonel
24:56wow, Mark is taking so much damage here
24:59if he doesn't get the keep
25:00it's really not worth it
25:01this is going to be a huge loss
25:02yeah
25:02but he might get the keep
25:04oh, burning oil just finished
25:05oh, that's the retreat sign
25:07as soon as he saw that
25:08he knew he had to get out
25:09that was pretty clutch
25:10so boiling oil is researched now
25:12which means that
25:13any units that come close to the keep
25:15will get burned
25:15we might see the action here
25:17just about there
25:17oh, yep
25:19got him again
25:20so it looks like he's trying to
25:22maybe just siege it down with some mangonels
25:23and not go in with the cavalry anymore
25:26but
25:27he's also being attacked by some archers
25:29there's some knights going on
25:30there's a lot of stuff distracting
25:31and he's getting his repairs off
25:32so
25:32I think this keep is going to stand
25:34oh, no
25:35he's going to lose another mangonel
25:36oh, it's so expensive
25:38oh, devastating
25:38oh, it's so expensive
25:39mangonels are not cheap
25:40and
25:41that one's going to go down as well
25:42meanwhile he's raiding at the back
25:44did he close this wall?
25:45I think he did
25:46so
25:46the roosts
25:47they don't get stone walls
25:49but they do get fortified palisades
25:52they only cost wood
25:54they have so much health though
25:57beefy
25:57and
25:57although you can't put units on top of them
26:00like stone walls
26:00they're quite a formidable defense even still
26:03mhm, mhm
26:04and they actually build a little bit faster than the normal wall as well
26:07so you can get them down there pretty quick
26:08so yeah, they're pretty clutch
26:11wow
26:11Frank, getting a little bit of breathing room
26:13yeah, he's been attacked constantly
26:16just over and over and over again
26:17I'm getting worn out watching
26:18haha

26:21Mark is really starting to pile on the siege now though
26:24castle age
26:24is really where the siege options start to open up
26:27we've got a number of mangonels
26:28we've also got a couple of spring alts in here
26:30the spring ult is a counter siege siege unit
26:33it does a single target high damage
26:36but it's got a huge bonus against siege
26:39plus 20
26:39and that essentially gives them the extra firepower to deal with any defensive mangonels as well
26:45yeah, and they have a little bit more range too
26:47so you can kind of stand at the perimeter and pick them off
26:51and they're faster and they set up quicker as well
26:54so yeah, they're a much more mobile, sort of flexible tool
26:58but they're doing single target damage, mangonel does AOE
27:01so you'd prefer to build an army of only mangonels
27:05but you want to mix in those spring ult just in case they have some mangonels of their own
27:08which we did see, right?
27:10yeah, we saw mangonels from both
27:12and mangonels are so good against groups of units
27:14groups of units like those villagers!
27:16oh no!
27:17oh, and the archers as well
27:19oh my goodness
27:20wow
27:20this is so much getting siege here
27:22this is awesome
27:23oh, and one more hit on those villagers
27:25one more and they're all-
27:26they're so low
27:27they're all- they're gone
27:30they're done for
27:31wow
27:32Frank here was not expecting so much siege to roll up
27:36and start laying waste to his base
27:38but meanwhile he is raiding as well
27:41oh wow
27:41so he is responding
27:43archers and horsemen
27:44knights mixed in as well
27:46getting in there on the farms of Mark Mark
27:48losing a few villas and also having to idle a whole heap of his economy
27:52yeah, he doesn't even have enough garrison slots
27:55because the town center holds 20 villagers
27:58but unlike on the other side there's no wooden fortresses
28:00there's no- because you can't build them, right?
28:02there's no outposts, there's no keep
28:03so he looks like he was not ready for this counter raid
28:07yeah, and he's wide open
28:08he's not walled himself up
28:10he felt pretty, you know, good in his position
28:12he was so- so aggressive
28:14he was keeping the enemy in the base
28:15he's like, I'm safe, I'm fine
28:16but
28:17exactly
28:17yeah, that keep really turned things around
28:19and he didn't set up the defenses
28:20oh, it really did
28:21now he's paying the price as, uh, gets raided here
28:24he is gonna clean this up though
28:25he's done a good job of responding
28:26and maybe he'll think about getting some of his own walls up soon
28:29as the Lance connect go to work
28:31oh, yeah, look at him just cut those cavalry down
28:35they're taking them out
28:36they're taking them out
28:36I just like watching them work
28:37I love when they charge, when they run and jump
28:39just straight over
28:40yeah, oh man
28:43Frank though, uh, looks like he's kind of running out of
28:45well, maybe not running out of gold
28:47but struggling to lock down the gold on the front of his base
28:50so he's trying to be, uh, sneaky out here on the left side
28:53he sent 16 vils out to grab gold in the corner of the map
28:56that's quite the army
28:57oh, look at this
28:58the siege
28:59it's really open
29:00yeah, it makes sense he didn't want to mine gold there
29:02he thought it was safe having a keep there, right?
29:05but there's just too much siege
29:06so he had to back out
29:08and now there's cavalry versus siege
29:10and he's got so many springles
29:12he was actually able to clean up that cavalry
29:14and now pushing in
29:16the mangonels don't do awesome siege damage
29:18but they do
29:19they will do a decent punch
29:21so if you can get enough hits
29:23they will be able to take things down
29:25it's brilliant
29:25and this is just dangerous
29:26I mean, how do you push into this as Frank?
29:29where you kind of need some of your own siege
29:31or you need a lot of cavalry
29:32six spring alts is no joke
29:34and he's kind of got no spring alts right now
29:37he's starting to build a couple
29:39but he's really got to hold on
29:41and you can see the strength of that palisade wall there
29:43from the roost really just holding him out
29:45yeah, he's taking a beating, right?
29:46it's not going to last that long
29:48I think Mark's going to find his way right to the front door
29:51trying to avoid those keeps, of course
29:53which are locking down the open area to the right
29:55but there's a lot of Cav now
29:56and if he can get in behind
29:58he can blow up this siege quite quickly
30:00uh oh, uh oh
30:00he's coming in for the flank
30:01oh, here it is
30:02oh, oh, he picked off his...
30:03he's going to pick it off
30:04yep, yep, yep
30:05he's got the torches on it
30:06nice
30:07is Mark too deep?

30:12either he's going to go in and win the game
30:14or he's going to get his army killed
30:18yep, and those horsemen are just going to find their way in there
30:20they're killing another spring old
30:21but now they're trapped
30:23and the only way is to get out the gate
30:25or face these horsemen at the front
30:28but there's more from Frank coming in at the top side
30:30and he is doing a good job of starting to pick off these siege units
30:33and Mark may be getting a little bit trapped in there
30:35does keep a lot of them alive still
30:38but there's another keep behind him
30:40and Frank is just throwing down all the keeps
30:42to try and defend, defend, defend for the time being
30:45I love this choice of adding more keeps
30:47because he doesn't have any...
30:48he doesn't have any trebuchets
30:49he doesn't have any ramps
30:50he doesn't have anything that can really punch through them
30:52so just throwing a whole bunch of down
30:55slow this attack down
30:57and then let your superior economy outproduce
31:00and he's kind of just like throwing waves of horsemen at this
31:04right? to just wear it down and wear it down
31:05and look how many siege weapons are left now, right?
31:08there's three
31:09there's three, and they're really expensive
31:11and Mark's invested a lot into this push
31:13and besides breaking a hole in the wall and burning an archery range
31:18that's...
31:18I don't think he's done much else with this
31:20that's...
31:20it's not a lot of... like he didn't raid villager's raid
31:24um...
31:24absolutely
31:24and he's slowly running away with his one last mangonel
31:29and back home, I mean, he really, um... you know, is wide open
31:33he has added the second town center to the left side
31:35nice
31:35so they're both making sure to keep their economies growing
31:38and rolling as much as they can
31:39but for the time being
31:41um... Mark's just gonna have to back off
31:43and Frank's just again bought himself some more time
31:46and he's really starting to build up his eco back here
31:49more hunting cabins with farms around them
31:51uh... really building up his food economy
31:53and uh... maybe thinking about the imperial age before too long
31:56yeah, he's got a nice, solid position with his keeps there in the walls
32:01so he knows nothing's gonna get back there
32:03so, yeah, he's adding on tons more farms
32:06and he's also starting to saturate those gold in the middle
32:09oh, wow, that's a great spot for a keep
32:13I mean, I think he suspects that, or he may have scouted even
32:16that, hey, there's some villagers out here
32:18and this keep will just shut that down
32:19great reaction from Mark though
32:22oh, good pull, good pull
32:22pulls them away immediately
32:23and Frank, he's got enough resources to go to the imperial age
32:26very soon
32:27but for the time being
32:28yeah, building these keeps around the map
32:30thinking about gold control and map control
32:33going into the late game
32:34these big golds
32:35they have 8,000 gold in them
32:37which is twice that
32:38of the 4,000 gold from the small mines
32:40and as they run out
32:41players are really forced out
32:43towards the edges of the map
32:44where it's more risky
32:45and Frank is doing a great job of
32:47at the moment locking that down
32:48I'm looking for this imperial age landmark
32:51what's it going to be?
32:53where is it going to be?
32:54yeah, it's a big base, right?
32:56oh yeah, it could be anywhere in here
32:57was it there?
32:59oh, did he just cancel it I think?
33:00did he move it?
33:01oh, no
33:01there it is
33:02high armory
33:03so the high armory
33:04it is a siege landmark
33:07it basically makes siege workshops nearby
33:10reduce the cost of siege that's trained from them
33:13and it also has some unique siege techs in there as well
33:16so Frank's really thinking about
33:17right, this game's going late
33:19I want my siege
33:20I want to make sure I've got means to destroy my opponent's base
33:23when I finally get around to it
33:25yeah, and I love that choice
33:27on top of the keeps
33:28because he's locked down the gold deposits
33:29siege weapons cost a lot of gold
33:31so he's got a very solid long-term plan
33:35which he's, I think, going to do pretty well with
33:38but there's a pretty big raid coming in here actually
33:40yeah, look at the monster neck
33:41they're so good at killing pillagers
33:42but they die so quickly to arrow fire
33:45they're just, they're ultimate glass cannons really
33:48yeah, when I said a big raid I meant like
33:50in terms of the devastating power of the lance neck
33:53there was only five
33:54but five of them wiped out a couple
33:57quite a few villagers pretty quickly
33:58and he was lucky he had those keeps
34:00if the lance neck had kind of run into the farming
34:02in the very back
34:03he could have been in some pretty big trouble there
34:06yeah
34:07so Mark then
34:08is he thinking about the Imperial Age soon?
34:11maybe not
34:12he's a little bit short of food at the moment
34:14we'll see if he's going up any time soon
34:17but Frank, he's well on his way
34:18and once he's up to Imperial
34:21obviously he'll be going for some big techs
34:23Imperial Age elite technologies for him
34:26and then maybe thinking about some bigger siege guns
34:30like the Bombard for example
34:32which can really tear through buildings with some gunpowder
34:34and also potentially even the other final ruse unique unit
34:39which we haven't seen yet
34:40the Strelzi
34:41yeah
34:42it's a very powerful version of the hand cannon
34:46which gets a cost reduction
34:49and it also can get more powerful over time as it's standing there
34:53but it looks like he's going to focus on the Bombards you think?
34:56yeah, going for the unique tech here in the high armory
34:59the fine-tuned guns
35:00it's giving his Bombards 25% faster reload time
35:04so that is significant as he'll want to tear for his opponent's base
35:08but look at this on the left-hand side
35:11oh hello
35:11well Mark, he's going to build out four of these rams in the field
35:15and it looks like he wants to launch an assault on this keep here
35:18and maybe deny Frank the long-term gold out on this left-hand side
35:22yeah, this is a great spot for an attack
35:24because there's also a ton of villagers over there gathering wood
35:27that the keep is protecting them from
35:29and four rams will be more than enough to take it out
35:31as long as he's able to get on those villagers and stop them from repairing or torching the rams
35:37absolutely, so we'll see if he can put that to work
35:40obviously Frank just reached the Imperial Age
35:42so he invested a lot of resources into aging up
35:44this would be a good time to push
35:46but if Frank can see this coming
35:49then he might be able to react in time
35:50at the moment though, I think he's got no idea about this
35:53he's just chilling at home
35:54moving his army out to the opposite side of the map
35:57while trouble is brewing in the fog of war
36:01yeah, and I like how he sort of pushed in with those cavalry too
36:05up sort of the north side of the base
36:07to make sure the army was kind of far away
36:09and not going to be able to respond to these rams
36:12and now they're coming in
36:15the ram train is on the way
36:16they're slow but they're powerful, right?
36:19oh yeah, he's got boiling oil on this keep
36:20so he doesn't really want to get under there with his military units
36:24but the rams will do a great job
36:25and then he's using the horsemen to chase down the villagers
36:28as they run away
36:29and wow, they're getting cut down
36:30oh wow, he killed a lot of villagers
36:32this is a great attack
36:33but he's got to deal with a counterattack at the same time it looks like
36:36that's right, Frank raiding here
36:38with his horsemen at the same time
36:40it's so scrappy
36:41and he just upgraded the elite horsemen as well
36:44so he's getting on the farms, he's getting into the woodlines
36:47he's killing a lot of villes out here
36:49yeah, and there's just not a lot of defense either
36:51wow, there's stuff happening all over
36:53look at this
36:54that keep is still being attacked
36:55there's Lange deck
36:57there's cavalry everywhere
36:58are there some Stralski?
37:00yeah, we've got some Stralski there coming out too
37:02these guys are awesome
37:04they have the huge axe
37:05which they rest their gun on as they're firing
37:08love that
37:08and the static deployment
37:10where as you said
37:10if they stand still
37:11they'll increase their attack speed and damage three times
37:14over their duration that they're stood still for
37:18mhm
37:18but it looks like he's too busy running around raiding the base
37:22so he's not going to get that bonus anymore
37:24he's going to just focus on trying to kill as many villagers as possible
37:27but at the same time there's a lot of rams in his base
37:29oh and there's more
37:32there's, oh there's more
37:33my goodness, he can keep adding them in
37:35and I think Mark's just fed up of all these keeps
37:38he wants to tear them down
37:39and he's really got a large army in here
37:42and Frank, it's almost like he doesn't want to respond to that
37:45he's doing good damage inside of Mark's base
37:48but surely he needs to respond to these rams soon
37:52yeah, the Stralski do quite well
37:55they have guns
37:56the guns do a lot of damage
37:58oh he's got a bombard in the back
37:59did you see that?
38:00oh it just killed one of the rams
38:02so he actually has a pretty good defense
38:05and he's using these buildings really effectively
38:07so normally the cavalry would be countering the Stralski
38:11because they're light armor
38:12so you're dealing double damage as a horseman to archers
38:16and anything light armor
38:16but when they're all sort of protected
38:20around the archery ranges in the buildings and stuff like that
38:22you're not getting any surface area
38:23so they're doing, they did huge damage
38:25and now they're able to sort of sneak through the buildings
38:28get onto the rams and take the rams out
38:30so this was amazing defense by Frank
38:33with very, very few units, right?
38:35this is very impressive
38:36yeah, the Stralski are actually really good at killing rams
38:39and the rams are a feudal age siege unit, right?
38:41so you can make them in the feudal age on the field
38:44with the siege engineering tech from the blacksmith
38:46and at this stage of the game
38:48when your opponent's got these Stralski out
38:49you really need to try and attack from range
38:52bombards, trebuchets, that kind of thing
38:54to try and defend your siege from the Stralski
38:57which are very, very powerful
38:59so now, it looks like both players have kind of defended their bases, right?
39:05they're kind of cleared up
39:07but I think there have been pretty heavy casualties, right?
39:11yeah, if we look at Frank right now
39:12he's 103 villagers
39:14Mark on the other hand
39:15he's got down to 49!
39:18oh no!
39:19devastating!
39:19so the raid's from Frank doing huge damage
39:22and I think Mark wishes he'd maybe walled up a little bit more
39:25yeah, yeah, maybe built like AP perhaps
39:28so Frank doing some great economic damage there
39:31yet Mark still seems to have the map control for now
39:34but Frank just building up his Stralski
39:36and that's going to get dangerous for Mark
39:38as Mark still doesn't quite have those elite upgrades
39:45he's not even in the Imperial Age at this stage
39:48looking around his base
39:49we can't see the Imperial Age landmark anywhere
39:54yep
39:55yep, still just veteran
39:56no elite units yet
39:58and again, he used that positioning really well
40:01the Stralski
40:01he kind of wedged him in between that archery range
40:03and that wall there
40:04so some cavalry ran in to engage
40:06and then realized they couldn't
40:08and then ran out
40:09and so anytime in cavalry
40:10you're running in and running out without attacking
40:12against ranged units
40:13you're just losing a lot of
40:15taking free damage basically
40:17yeah
40:17so Mark now, yeah
40:19he took heavy losses there on the front
40:21the Stralski really a powerhouse
40:23and he's on the retreat
40:25he has actually added a trebuchet
40:27but I think it's a little late
40:29the push from Mark has come to an end
40:31and now it's been
40:32well, Frank is just using his superior firepower at this stage
40:36Mark, yeah
40:37Imperial Age would be great for him
40:40but I don't see him
40:41but he has 200 food
40:43so it's looking like that's not going to happen anytime soon
40:47yeah, he's in a little trouble
40:49and Frank, yeah
40:50just sort of
40:51higher age
40:52better technology
40:53superior firepower at the moment
40:55and Mark just kind of has to fall back
40:58and defend
41:00from these elite horsemen
41:01which are starting to raid over on the left-hand side as well
41:04and ooh, villagers
41:05that could be
41:06quite a few kills if he wants to take the fight
41:08but Frank's happy to run away for now
41:11yeah, he knows he has an edge
41:12he doesn't need to sacrifice any of his units right now, right?
41:15he's just trying to
41:16get into position
41:17and you can see the Stralski
41:18they're quite a bit slower than the horsemen, right?
41:20so it's taking a while to
41:22march them across the map
41:23but if he can get them in
41:24get them in a good position
41:26they can build up their damage bonus, right?
41:29yeah, and ooh, the mangonel could be huge
41:31the mangonel can get a big shot up here
41:33it could do some really good damage to the Stralski
41:36but the horsemen from Frank
41:37diving in
41:38and ooh, the repair!
41:40look at that!
41:41look at that!
41:41he's actually repairing the mangonel with villagers in here
41:45gosh, it's just
41:46look at its health
41:47it's just going down and then going up
41:48going down
41:48oh, he finally finished it off
41:50he finally finished it off
41:51he got it
41:52he got it
41:53and he's backing up himself
41:54he's got Spombard moving out
41:56he's got his army together in the middle of the map
41:58and he's even got a warrior monkey in there as well
42:00so if he can get that off
42:02and get the bonus armor and damage
42:04as well as the static deployment
42:06he can just kind of layer those bonuses together
42:08and make a big push
42:10but for now
42:12Mark
42:12he's really got a sizable army
42:15yeah, that's quite an impressive force this guy
42:17because we know he lost a lot of villagers
42:18yeah
42:20not cheap to build all those units
42:22a lot of horses
42:23but he isn't aged now
42:24he's aged three horses
42:26against the Stralski here
42:27and he's going to come ahead and take the fight
42:29there's some spearmen trying to get in at the back onto the cab
42:32the Stralski also had
42:33the mangonel
42:34oh, was that a good shot?
42:35it looks pretty good
42:36oh, this could be a big one
42:37oh, he got out, he got out
42:41but this is great
42:42look at the horsemen
42:43they're making a wedge between the wood lines
42:45and the Stralski is just laying into them from the back
42:48as he dodges the mangonel shots here
42:50this is fantastic
42:51yeah, great micro and great battle positioning too
42:54yeah, having that line
42:55just protecting his troops with the knights
42:57and now he's actually using the spread formation
42:59it looks like
42:59so that he's not clumped up
43:01taking all that AOE damage from the mangonel
43:03that was a great fight for Frank
43:05and that will convert into a game win for him as well
43:09wow, well played
43:11epic match
43:12that was back and forth
43:13that was scrappy
43:14there was one stop action around the map
43:16all over the place
43:17wow, and I think Frank
43:19yeah, just with the superior attack advantage
43:21Mark not having any final layers of defense
43:24no keeps, no wars at the end there
43:26just couldn't hold on any longer
