00:02Introducing, from the darkest corner of the LEGO Super Mario Universe, The Mighty Bowser.
00:11Hey, I'm Carl, Senior Designer on LEGO Super Mario.
00:18For this model, we wanted to create the ultimate Bowser build.
00:24And that means we had to make it big.
00:26Because the bigger you build something out of LEGO bricks, the more details you can put in.
00:33Besides capturing all of his iconic details, we also wanted to make him come alive.
00:38And what we did was add a couple buttons on the side where you can push to move his head
00:43back and forth.
00:44You can pull the trigger to open and close his mouth.
00:46And if you pull the trigger all the way, he'll actually shoot out his fireball.
00:52We took some inspiration from a few different forms of puppetry and added loose joints to the legs and tail.
00:58So when you pick him up, it actually looks like he's jumping.
01:03Most of the LEGO bricks used to make the Mighty Bowser are actually not designed to make characters.
01:09There's only a few, besides the teeth, the fingers, the horn, and the edge of the shell, and our new
01:183x3x3 o-drive.
01:20Most of the other bricks were made for cars and spaceships and vehicles and airplanes.
01:26All different types of machines, not characters.
01:30My favorite part of this model has to be the shell.
01:33It was one of the first things we built, and I love how it captures the curved shell edge
01:40and all of the hard facets and details of the shell itself
01:43and just capping it off with our new 3x3x3 o-drive.
01:47It looks super fun, and it is super fun to build.
01:53The last thing we needed was a digital interaction with our LEGO Mario.
01:57And that's where Didier came in.

02:11I joined this project when the physical model was nearly finished, and it looked amazing.
02:16We wanted the digital experience to match that epic level.
02:20So we designed this new way of playing with the color,
02:22where you stomp the model itself to defeat Bowser.
