00:00I saw a path the whole time. Before it was a special election, just running as a normal
00:06midterm race, I feel very embedded in my community. And it's actually something people
00:11have told me for years that Republican friends, Democratic friends, that I should run for office.
00:17And it's something I was thinking about. I saw the term limited incumbent as an opportunity
00:26to run and offer a new option to the voters in District 87. So I believed in myself the whole
00:36time. Way before anybody else did. They don't really give a rip what famous people are in the
00:45district. They just want their lives. They want the same things all of us do. They want security.
00:50They want a pathway to prosperity. They want to leave their children's lives
00:56better off than they were. I mean, we all want the same core values. And it's about whether you're
01:01going to focus on those and solving those issues or fringe issues and partisan politics. I also heard
01:08health care, groceries, all of the cost of living and how hard it is for Florida families to get by.
01:18Well, I would say whether you're running in a red district, a blue district, a purple district,
01:23always listen to your voters. Make that your primary function is listening, not talking at people,
01:30asking the person you're in front of, what is the issue they are struggling with the most? What do
01:36they need relief from? And going from there, you know, always showing up to a conversation
01:41with open ears. I think that's so central to no matter what you're running for, or whether the numbers
01:49are in your favor or not. The world's not going to change by people saying disengaged. And I completely
01:55understand that position. I feel like many of us have felt that way for several years and the toxicity
02:02of our current political climate. But we have to get off the bench and we have to lean in. If
02:09you want
02:09the world to look different, you have to go make it different. I see myself as a pretty normal person
02:14trying to do good in the world. I'm a proud Florida Democrat. I've been a Florida Democrat my whole
02:20life. That's my worldview. I think that we are on the right side of the issues. I do think we
02:26have
02:26the momentum. But it mostly is about showing up in your community and being of service. And my husband
02:33is in the army. We were active duty for many years. So we take service very, very literally. We
02:40believe in serving our community. And that means putting yourself out there.
