Kinderhook is a quiet, picturesque community found in Columbia County, New York, typified by bubbling streams, thick forests and generational homes. But Kinderhook is much more than a small, rural town. In the 1980s an author and radio broadcaster named Bruce Hallenbeck and his family were beset by continual encounters with a strange, upright creature. The sightings became an international phenomenon, and even stranger, were but one of many odd events chronicled by Hallenbeck and others.

00:01In December of 1979, my grandmother got up early in the morning, as she always did,
00:07and she happened to look out the kitchen window here, and she saw a very strange animal.
00:13And it was curled up in something like a fetal position.
00:17She had to go and do something for a moment, and then she came back, and when she came back,
00:21it was gone.
00:24Kinderhook is an old, old town with a lot of old history and old legends.
00:30If you take the Hudson Valley as a whole, you have all of the different types of paranormal experience,
00:37sort of in one large geographical place.
00:40My grandmother used to say, I'd love to live in a haunted house. I said to her a couple of
00:44times, well, I think you do.
