Uganda: economy expanded by 8.5% in last quarter in December

Strong consumer demand and high activity in sectors such as construction drove Uganda's economy to expand by 8.5% during the financial quarter that ended in December 2025.

00:03The finance ministry announced late on Tuesday that the country's economy had grown by 8.5%
00:09in the last financial quarter that ended in December 2025.
00:14A year earlier, growth in the same quarter had stood at 5.4%.
00:19The positive development at the end of December is due to several factors, according to the ministry.
00:26Consumer demand was strong and sectors such as construction saw a lot of activity.
00:32Among the country's key construction projects is a $5 billion oil pipeline,
00:37meant to help Uganda export its oil via Tanzania's Tanga port.
00:42The pipeline is finished at 80%, according to Uganda's finance ministry.
