00:00Welcome to IONES
00:01Thank you very very much
00:03I feel very good about IONES
00:05Because whenever I talk about IONES
00:08Every single day
00:09I feel very good about IONES
00:12Kumbhra Ji
00:13First of all, you would like to know
00:15About your journey
00:16From 2010 to 2010
00:19You have so many roles
00:21How did you evolve as an actor?
00:24Well
00:26You get a chance
00:27I mean, when you get a chance
00:29If you give a chance
00:30Then maybe your journey
00:32Or your growth
00:36Maybe you see
00:37Or not
00:37But I feel like consistency
00:41Discipline
00:43Excitement
00:43A natural sense of
00:45I just want to do this
00:47And I think
00:51That kind of clarity was there in me
00:53The day I came to Mumbai
01:17Where I came to Mumbai
01:24Because I was doing that
01:24That I was doing
01:24That I was doing
01:24That I was doing
01:24That I was doing
01:24That I was doing
01:24That I was doing
01:25Right?
01:25That I was doing
01:26That I am going to do
01:28To be able to do
02:02I'm quite happy and I'm very grateful for it.
02:22You know, most people recognize, you know, an internal process.
02:28You know, you can always do this with your shoots.
02:38But I do this in the acting class.
02:40I do this with people.
02:44If you're living your life, you'll get inspiration.
02:49You'll sit with someone and talk with someone.
02:51You don't need to understand the psyche of their own.
02:53You don't need to understand the psyche of your own.
02:55When you see that, you have a great power.
03:00Every place has power.
03:01You open the newspaper, the power comes to you.
03:04Right?
03:05I think that as much as you try to understand the power,
03:09the power of your own.
03:11It's an experience.
03:12So, I feel like DCP Parveen Sheik was going to reach to you.
03:19And in your mind, this character is going to be the police.
03:22So, this will be the character.
03:23But I have the opportunity for two times to play a police officer.
03:28One time in Deva.
03:30One time in Lakhot.
03:32And now here, as DCP Parveen Sheik in Sankalp.
03:36And if you're three officers, if you check the police officers,
03:41then there is no similarity.
03:44It's a different journey.
03:46It's a different story.
03:47It's different.
03:48It's different from the relationship.
03:49It's different from the other people.
03:51It's different from the other people.
03:52It's different from the other people.
03:54So, the way you can understand,
03:56you'll need to rely on your own.
03:58Because there are all the answers,
04:01the answers,
04:03the answers,
04:03you will get in your script.
04:05And whenever I have a question
04:07that I don't understand this,
04:10then there's a father.
04:11So, Prakash sir helped me.
04:14Prakash sir is very intense.
04:17How does your performance shape your set?
04:23Prakash sir is the kindest person
04:26to everybody on his set.
04:30It is not that I will only be good with acting.
04:33I will only be good with ADC.
04:35I will only be good with my job.
04:37It is not that I will only be good with them.
04:40They will all be good with everyone.
04:43They will give themselves their own work.
04:45I feel that they are a director
04:48who has been so many years after
04:51their own balance,
04:56their own core,
04:57their realisation is that
05:00I will only be able to make this.
05:02And so, when we talk about film
05:06or OTT,
05:07it is a director's medium.
05:09When the director knows what they want,
05:11then we just follow and surrender.
05:15So, the following and surrendering experience
05:18was also very good.
05:20And this is probably a unique experience for me.
05:25And this is a level up.
05:28Because we are working on it.
05:29And I have worked with very good people.
05:32I am very fortunate.
05:34And this list is probably going to increase.
05:36So, I am not complaining.
05:39It is a level up.
05:40You are not going to choose your uniform.
05:43Do you have a role in your uniform?
05:45Do you have a role in your uniform?
05:45Do you have a role in this city?
05:46Do you have a quality?
05:46Do you have a strong authority?
05:49Do you have a power in your uniform?
05:49Do you gravitate towards your uniform?
05:50I think directors, casting directors, writers,
05:53they gravitate towards my strength.
05:56I will make my strength in my strength.
06:00And it's not that if you wear a police officer or a naval officer,
06:06or you wear a uniform, then you have power.
06:09I think that we are in such a way,
06:12where the substance of a woman, that itself is power.
06:18And that we are writing subtly in our stories,
06:23the way that we are writing our leading ladies,
06:28the way that we are giving our female leads,
06:33that opportunity to move forward.
06:36I think that's the point of view.
06:40And strength is not just defined,
06:43that you wear a uniform.
06:44I think every woman is super strong.
06:47And that's the time when we are seeing that strength.
06:49We are seeing that strength is strong,
06:52but it can be strong as someone's mother.
06:54It can be strong as someone's mother.
06:56It can be strong as someone's mother.
06:58So, if that strength is in me, as a human being and as a woman,
07:03if casting directors or directors or writers are watching that,
07:08I will take that any day.
07:10How do you think that in the industry,
07:12women in uniform roles are only taking the role of the token power?
07:16Or is it still a stereotypical writing issue?
07:19No.
07:20These are the stereotypical issues,
07:22people think,
07:23they think,
07:23these are the people's problems,
07:25but it's not my problem definitely.
07:27Because when I,
07:28with my eyes and eyes,
07:29with my eyes,
07:31with our OTT shows,
07:34or films,
07:35when I see them,
07:37I think that the women in uniform,
07:40they are extremely powerful.
07:42Take Yami Gautam.
07:43Take Sunakshi Sinha.
07:45Take Mona Singh.
07:47Take me.
07:48You know,
07:49I don't think anyone has a token given to them,
07:52that by uniform,
07:53this is your token.
07:54It's their story.
07:55It's their backstory.
07:56It's their strength.
07:57But more importantly,
07:59as performers,
08:00I think we are getting a chance to perform.
08:03More layers,
08:04more nuances.
08:05So, I think this is a great win for all of us
08:08to be in the middle of change right now.
08:13You have talked about versatility,
08:15and character choices.
08:17So, you have talked about your secret game,
08:18cook,
08:18and Javani Janayman,
08:20Mehvesh,
08:21and Parveen Sheik.
08:23These are completely different personalities.
08:25So, you chose the script,
08:26and what is the most important thing?
08:28Character graph, screen time, or impact?
08:32Money.
08:35No, man.
08:37I think it's a combination of everything.
08:39It's not possible that, you know,
08:45there's an impact.
08:46And you,
08:47I think more important,
08:49I mean, to answer this question,
08:51I have been really fortunate
08:52that,
08:53I have been really fortunate
08:54I have got a chance to work with such people
08:56that have believed in me.
09:01that,
09:02the writing,
09:04the script,
09:05the characters,
09:07the characters are so strong.
09:10I feel so confident
09:11as I have a lot of time.
09:14I feel so confident
09:15that I have a good team
09:16and that I have a good script
09:19that I have a good script
09:20and I can do so confident
09:21that I have a good script.
09:28If I meet, then I will play roles like this and I won't be a problem.
09:37I think the versatility of course comes from the actor, but it's also the power of the writer.
09:43The writers write good lines, the writers think about the characters, I think we can move forward with them.
09:52Because I can't relate with these characters, my audience can relate.
10:00I think at some point, I am trying to make the best out of my experience as an actor in
10:07this industry.
10:08In the first season, your character was very subtle and impactful.
10:14Do you want to see in season 2 more layered or darker shades?
10:17Well, you will know when you will see in season 2.
10:23You are constantly strong headed and resilient women.
10:28Do you want to change a personal identity or do you want to change a narrative?
10:33Do you want to change?
10:34I think the truth is when you live it.
10:38If I say the truth, it's not that my truth will change.
10:42Or that someone's thoughts will change.
10:45But I think I honestly and truthfully and authentically live my life.
10:49And I am quite happy about that.
10:51It has given me enough courage to live my life in a very balanced way.
10:58I give my personal life as much as I give my professional life.
11:03And I think the balance that helps you to take your decisions.
11:12In the way that we move forward in our life,
11:18I think your personal beliefs are extremely important.
11:23If my personal beliefs are translating on screen through various characters,
11:30then I am not going to be shy about it.
11:33But then I have also played characters who are not like me.
11:35When you take the foundation and see Farrah's role in the foundation,
11:41then I am not so angry.
11:45I am not prepared for the whole world.
11:49You know that if anything happens,
11:51you will get justice for me.
11:54That is the ultimate power.
11:56And that is what I have experienced as an actor.
11:59Right?
11:59But I feel that every actor gets to play a different shade in their life.
12:07And as far as you can recognize who you are at the very core of yourself,
12:13that's a good enough answer for you.
12:14And if I am growing, and I truly feel this, right?
12:17I have grown as an actor.
12:18And I have grown as a human being through being an actor.
12:23Because when you are acting,
12:26you have also judged someone to be.
12:31You mean, the judgment of someone is automatically.
12:36Because if I judge someone to be.
12:39Or, that it is that way.
12:42Or, that it is that way.
12:43Or, that it is that way.
12:44No, that it is that way.
12:46And that's the story.
12:47And that's a hero.
12:49That's a character.
12:50That is the story of my character.
12:55It doesn't matter if it's close to me or not.
12:59My journey is to live my life as authentically as I can.
13:02And the one thing I've realized is that life as a whole
13:05is not black and white.
13:07It's a rainbow and it's a beautiful spectrum.
13:10We have all shades.
13:13So the chance to explore that shades,
13:17I will do it.
13:36You know, we have a medium to raise our insecurities.
13:42That's why we are insecure.
13:45First of all, why are we insecure?
13:49Because God has given us this body, this wisdom, this heart.
13:55So I feel like if we keep our beliefs above
13:58and if we securely behave from ourselves.
14:03So that is nobody's question.
14:06I don't think it's a medium that requires us to feel the insecurity.
14:10The insecurity is in us regardless.
14:13And overcoming that insecurity is up to us.
14:17I don't necessarily like to change my face or change my body or whatever,
14:24other than going to the gym or whatever, right?
14:26But that's my choice and I'm secure in that.
14:29But if someone feels that they want to change their body
14:32or change, you know, the way they look,
14:35then that's their choice and they're secure in that.
14:38So who am I to say that by making a choice someone is secure or insecure?
14:43I think as human beings we should stop judging other people
14:47and stop judging people for the choices they make
14:50and really focus on your own choices because this is your life.
14:54So I don't understand why someone has to sit,
14:58waste so much of their time judging other people for their choices,
15:02which is their life.
15:04So I don't think it's social media or other people or society.
15:07If you're insecure, you will be insecure.
15:10And if you are secure, you will be secure irrespective of what the medium is.
15:15And I truly pray that everyone at some point finds that inner voice
15:20and inner security within themselves.
15:22When more OTT shoots, hectic schedules or long working hours,
15:25there's a lot debate.
15:27So what do you think that the work-life balance is a myth in the industry?
15:37See, it is a professional construct, right?
15:40So you can professionally choose to say,
15:42this is my daira, these are my limits and this is how I want to work.
15:47And that is again a choice.
15:49But I don't get to choose what your choice is.
15:51I am not the producer of every show, of every film, right?
15:55But at the same time,
15:57I think that when we are doing something creatively
16:00and if you are immersed in it,
16:03if you are sinking in it,
16:05then time is just a concept.
16:07You don't remember that I have talked to you for 6 hours
16:10or I have talked to you for 16 hours.
16:12Because I was so immersed in it.
16:15And I was really enjoying it.
16:20You are also enjoying it.
16:21You are also enjoying it.
16:23You are also enjoying it.
16:24But the passion within you,
16:26you have to be honest.
16:29If it is inside you,
16:31you will do it.
16:32But I think every situation is different.
16:34To put it in one eye,
16:36or to say,
16:38this is professional,
16:39and it's not professional.
16:40I think when creativity
16:43becomes a place of creativity,
16:47where everyone is doing 100%
16:49and everyone is taking their best in the world,
16:54then time is just a construct.
16:56But that does not mean
16:58that we don't keep our attention.
17:01It doesn't mean that we keep our choices
17:04above our choices.
17:07I feel that as a profession,
17:10of being in the creative industry,
17:13of being independent,
17:15and choosing a career for myself,
17:16I get to call certain shots.
17:18And if those shots,
17:20of these are my working hours,
17:22I want to do this.
17:25Like if I have a personal life,
17:29if you don't have children,
17:31I don't have children.
17:31I don't have a husband,
17:33home,
17:33I don't have a husband.
17:34So if I want,
17:35I can grow up.
17:37But the rest of the people,
17:39who have their personal life,
17:42and their professional life,
17:44they need a personal life.
17:46This is their choice.
17:47I don't like them.
17:49You don't do this.
17:51You don't do this.
17:52Qubraji,
17:53one more question.
17:53is that today's content driven
17:54of boxers' success debate.
17:56How do you see the success?
18:00Debate happens,
18:01when you are in a position,
18:05or in a position,
18:06or in a position,
18:07or in a position,
18:09you keep your opinion.
18:09Right?
18:10And in the debate,
18:11there's no winner or no loser.
18:13I don't like that
18:14in the film or OTT,
18:15there's no winner or loser.
18:17There are two different things.
18:19There's a long format
18:20and a limited time format.
18:22Right?
18:23And people go to their choice
18:24and go to their experience.
18:28Whether it's OTT
18:29or whether it's films,
18:30at the end of the day.
18:31I genuinely think
18:32that this debate
18:34is not going to win.
18:36But,
18:37with both OTT
18:38and film
18:39being so prevalent
18:41and the way
18:42we're making shows
18:43and films
18:44we're making
18:45and we're making
18:45an option
18:46that we can choose.
18:48And if the audience
18:49is choosing
18:49and they're looking
18:51good,
18:52then they're not
18:52one time.
18:53But,
18:53four times
18:54I've seen
18:55OTT shows
18:56two times.
18:58Because its content
18:59is good.
19:00So I don't think
19:02anyone is yet to say
19:03that this is right
19:03or wrong.
19:04Or better
19:04or not.
19:07I think
19:08that this is an individual
19:09preference.
19:10And today,
19:11you have films
19:12and OTT shows
19:14and you don't need
19:15anywhere to go.
19:16Just take the phone
19:17and everything
19:18came in front of you.
19:19So,
19:20if you have fun
19:20on any content,
19:22the screen is not going
19:24to make the difference.
19:25It is your personal investment
19:26in the story,
19:27in the characters
19:28and the way
19:28the characters
19:29are affecting you.
19:31So,
19:31until this is clear
19:32in your mind,
19:33then
19:35we can make
19:37the audience
19:38feels good
19:39that they've seen.
19:41If it resonates with them,
19:43then the audience
19:43will do it.
19:46Kupraji,
19:46what are you doing
19:47last video?
19:48What should you give
19:49your fans?
19:50I think I've had
19:51a very very busy year.
19:53I'm going to continue
19:53to have a very very busy year.
19:56I think the beauty
19:57and the privilege
19:58of being a creator
19:59is the fact
19:59that you don't have
20:01any limit.
20:02That I won't create
20:03before this.
20:04So,
20:05I'm going to create.
20:07I'm working on
20:08personal projects.
20:11I'm working on
20:12collaborative projects.
20:14I'm working on
20:15auditions.
20:16So,
20:16I'm going to auditions.
20:18And I think
20:19this is my journey.
20:22I think
20:23that
20:24there's another new
20:25wave.
20:26and I'm very excited
20:28to be a part
20:28of this journey.
20:31I'm very grateful
20:32for everybody
20:34I've worked with
20:35in the last year.
20:36Like,
20:36Sankalp,
20:37the show,
20:38we filmed this show
20:39three years ago.
20:41We filmed this show
20:42three years ago.
20:42And three years later
20:43this show was released.
20:44So,
20:45it's the only request
20:46that when you watch
20:47a show,
20:49read it like a book.
20:50You play the show.
20:51You're fully immersed.
20:52You see it.
20:54You feel it.
20:55Because
20:55in every show
20:56something's good.
20:57And maybe
20:58something's not good.
21:00But
21:01I think
21:01as much as you focus on
21:03the good things,
21:03as much as you feel
21:04good things,
21:05as much as you see
21:06that you'll see
21:07your mind.
21:08Your mind will change.
21:12And
21:13entertainment
21:13can be
21:14educative.
21:16It can be
21:17educational.
21:18I feel it's really
21:19important
21:19that
21:20if you want to see
21:21our world,
21:23you'll have to
21:24study,
21:26you'll have to see
21:26films,
21:27you'll have to hear
21:27music.
21:29These are all
21:29soft powers.
21:31And I think
21:31it's a great place
21:32to be in right now.
21:33I'm a part of that journey.
21:35And this journey
21:35is pretty damn good.
21:36I'm very happy with it.
