00:01Good morning, Sal and John. Good morning to you too. I tell you, I wouldn't be surprised to see a
00:05polar bear in the Tower of London this morning.
00:07It's cold this morning. But we are by Tower Green, famous, of course, for some of the executions that took
00:14place here.
00:14Lady Jane Grey, Anne Boleyn, Catherine Howard were all beheaded and were close to where Guy Fawkes was also interrogated.
00:22But as I mentioned, it's a cold start, not just here. The forecast for us all today is a cold
00:28one.
00:28There's a significant wind chill. And as well as that, we are looking at some sunshine, but also some showers.
00:35As some of the showers will be heavy and thundery. Some of them will be wintry in the hills.
00:40But if you're in the north of Scotland, some of that could get down to low levels.
00:44So that is essentially what's going to happen today. Some of the showers will clump together, giving some heavier bursts.
00:50In between, there'll be some sunshine. But if you're exposed to the cold northwesterly wind, you'll really notice it.
00:56But regardless of what it says on your thermometer, it will feel much colder than that.
01:01For some, it will feel close to freezing.
01:04Now, as we head on through the evening and overnight, we start off with some showers.
01:08But through the night, we will see them push into the North Sea.
01:11Another clump across northern and western parts of England and Wales moving into the Midlands towards the southeast.
01:17And still windy, especially on the coasts. Cold once again, temperatures falling away to minus one in some towns and
01:24cities, but lower than that in rural areas.
01:27Tomorrow, then, we'll start off with the risk of some ice. There'll be some frost, some sunshine.
01:32But the cloud's going to build through the day. We'll see some rain coming in.
01:36And with that rain in the northwest, the wind is going to strengthen.
01:40But it won't feel quite as cold as today because the wind won't be as strong.
01:45So if you're heading out, make sure you wrap up warmly.
01:48Take your gloves. You'll need them.
01:50Sal and John.
01:50And you have taken your own advice there. You've got your gloves on.
01:53That's great to see.
01:54Carol will join you again a little bit later. Thank you.
02:59We're now.
03:00Yes, in the world of weather, today will be moist.
03:04And it'll be chilly. I don't think that's capybara weather, so maybe it will run back to its shelter and
03:08warm up.
03:09But, yeah, a chilly old moist morning this morning.
03:11Will it be moist chilly?
03:12It will, yes.
03:14The detail.
03:18I think the main talking point for today, other than the moisture, is how much colder it is.
03:23This time last week, we had our warmest day of the year so far.
03:26Today, temperatures will struggle to just 10 degrees at best.
03:30And all of us seeing these temperatures below where they should be for the time of year.
03:36And it's because we now have air coming in from the Arctic.
03:39A cold front moved through overnight.
03:40It brought a spell of very wet and very windy weather.
03:43High pressure builds into the south, keeping it settled here.
03:46But another weather front moves in from the north.
03:48And that means the outlet turns increasingly unsettled.
03:51So, for today, it is one of sunshine and showers.
03:53It is cold enough for snow across the mountains of Scotland and some hail.
03:57And it will feel colder with some pretty gusty winds.
04:00So, first thing this morning on our latest satellite and radar, there's a lot of cloud around.
04:04But despite the cloudy skies and some fairly breezy conditions, it is a chilly start to the day.
04:09A touch of frost across northern areas.
04:11The band of rain that moves through overnight.
04:13But then it's sunny spells and scattered showers.
04:15The showers will be heavy, hail and thunder, snow across the mountains and a chilly 7 to 10 degrees.
04:21Our top temperature today when we add in the wind chill.
04:23For some of us, it will feel close to freezing.
04:26Tonight, it will be clear, cold and frosty setting up for another sunny day ahead tomorrow.
