00:09Before you start a campagna you will need to choose your hero.
00:13Just because you like one character doesn't necessarily mean their intended play style will suit you.
00:20In this video I'm going to give you a rundown of all the Danyan heroes.
00:23Every hero will have 2 unique gameplay mechanics.
00:27To get the best out of your chosen hero, it will be important to understand how and when you can
00:33use these mechanics.
00:35We start with one of the most famous names in history, Achilles, Warlord of the Myrmidons.
00:42Achilles strives to be the best warrior the world has ever known.
00:46This plays into his living legend mechanic.
00:49In this panel you can see other warriors who challenge Achilles.
00:52You can either find or fight them on the campaign map or demand recognition from these characters.
00:59One of three things will happen based on a few variables like your relationship, Achilles rank and target's rank.
01:06They will either step down and acknowledge you is better than them, they will challenge you to a friendly duel
01:11or they will refuse.
01:13If they refuse you will have to find them on the campaign map and battle them with any army led
01:19by Achilles.
01:19If you choose to duel, Achilles will leave his army for two turns to participate in the duel.
01:26He will always win these duels, but the way in which he wins will affect his mood.
01:31Being the greatest warrior grants you some impressive buffs and is certainly a key goal to go for when playing
01:37Achilles.
01:38Achilles is governed by his emotions and depending on what emotion is stronger will change his gameplay.
01:44His changing mood can have both positive and negative attributes to his governance and populace.
01:50Overall happiness, production and favor of the gods are just a few things that can be affected in both positive
01:56and negative ways.
01:58Learn his moods so they can benefit you during your campaign.
02:02Achilles is an aggressive war focused hero with strong elite troops in the Myrmidons.
02:08Next we have Agamemnon, king of Mycenae.
02:12He can demand a tribute from each of his vassals called the lion's share.
02:16His vassals pay him tribute every turn.
02:19In addition to this you can pick a vassal and demand an unknown lump sum of resources.
02:25The amount you will gain will depend on a few factors.
02:28The main being your overall relationship with your vassal.
02:31The tribute isn't calculated by what the faction has in supply.
02:35So feel free to ask for whatever you need.
02:38But be careful, you don't want to abuse this power.
02:42Friends could quickly become enemies.
02:44Agamemnon's other mechanic is called king of men.
02:47He can offer political positions to other heroes.
02:51These positions will grant the hero extra benefits.
02:54In king of men each office tier provides bonuses depending on whether it is occupied
02:58in how many occupied slots there are per tier.
03:02This mechanic can give you a significant boost over other factions.
03:05Giving both your populace and troops significant benefits.
03:10Agamemnon focuses heavily on creating an empire through vassalizing other factions.
03:15He can acquire a mass amount of wealth which gives him great trade in diplomatic options.
03:20If you like playing politically then he's the hero for you.
03:24Let's take a look at Odysseus, lord of Ithaca.
03:26Spies of Odysseus can sneak into foreign settlements and construct safe haven buildings.
03:32These buildings give Odysseus the ability to recruit locally on foreign soil.
03:37When constructing a safe haven you can choose between either the warriors lodge for melee units.
03:43Or a skirmishers camp for range units.
03:46To upgrade these buildings to access more powerful troops.
03:48You will need to meet certain building requirements back in your home regions.
03:53Odysseus' other mechanic is coastal mastery.
03:55All his buildings become available in coastal settlements making them incredibly important and valuable to Odysseus.
04:03But in settlements that are landlocked you will only be able to access the main settlement building.
04:08If you like playing a sneaky maybe slightly treacherous character then Odysseus may be for you.
04:14Being able to locally recruit in an ally or enemy faction is a powerful thing saving you time and money
04:21which keeps your campaign moving.
04:23And lastly Menelaus king of Sparta.
04:26His first mechanic is call to arms.
04:28If you have a defensive or military alliance with another faction you can recruit any unit from their available roster.
04:36You can do this in any friendly or hostile region on the map.
04:39But they do take a little longer to recruit so you need to weigh up the pros and cons if
04:44you are out on a campaign.
04:46Next he has the ability to make spartan colonies.
04:49This allows you to occupy raised settlements within your line of sight without having to send an army.
04:54It costs resources and the further away the raised settlement the more resources it will cost.
05:00Menelaus is a good hybrid character and may be one of the best if you are completely new to Total
05:05War.
05:06You can play very politically with him and he is able to expand at a good rate.
05:10But with the call to arms he can gain access to many troops in the game making him dangerous on
05:15the battlefield.
05:16In the next video we are going to be looking at the Trojan heroes and what they have to offer.
05:21In the next video.
